THIS ONLY WORKS FOR HASHCODE'S CM9 ROM. YOUR DEVICE NEEDS TO BE ROOTED
Tired of the same stock System Interface?
Now try a slightly tweaked Kindle Fire CM9 interface with new Back, Home, Menu, and Recent Apps soft buttons that are based on the Asus Transformer Prime, the Acer Iconia Tab A200, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
How do you install this?
Go to TWRP or CWM and Install the zip file provided in the bottom of this post.
Then Reboot
How does it look like?

Nice work!
Worked perfectly. Thanks!
Can I just move the file and replace it with the new one using root explorer? If so do I need to install it after placing it int the directory then reboot? Thanks
EDIT:never mind, worked using root explorer.no need to install apk, just replace existing one, change permissions and reboot.
Nice job! Only oddity on my first reboot after putting it in /system/app and changing permissions, wifi wouldn't come on. Rebooted again and all was well and looking good. I decided to use the Acer, I like the big house.
Made a backup of the original just in case. Btw, using this on gederom 1.25 which is running great! Thanks again.

It's great, but it's unfortunately not compatible with Bite Blaze's Reloaded Cm9 rom on 12 hour time setting. 24 works fine, though. Aww.
How to replace ? Do we rename SystemUI(Asus Transformer Prime MOD).apk to SystemUI.apk ??
When I try to rename/move current SystemUI.apk I get message can't rename/move!!!
Given that all of the items in question can be changed with the theme engine (see https://plus.google.com/115049428938715274412/posts/hMbiJWDmBs8 ), why are you telling people to swap out systemUI?

You need root permission to move the default SystemUI.apk from system/app. A good application for that is Root Explorer.
Then rename SystemUI(Asus Transformer Prime MOD).apk to SystemUI.apk and paste it in system/app. After that, change the permissions to rw-,r--,r--.
( Read Write Unchecked

That's how I did it.
I love interface options and these are fantastic! One can tell more about what their battery is doing with the number than with the semi-amorphous blobs that sort of look like they are trying to resemble a c-cell in use now.
I kinda like the home-plate icon tho and want to keep that, at least thru baseball season, heh. I do spend a lot of time in the doghouse here so the Iconia Home icon would work for me too.
I have not used this battery icon long enough to tell if those partial rings are informational or aesthetic - anyone know if they serve a purpose or just add style? They remind of that Arc Clock live wallpaper.

Hashcode 5/10 systemUI.apk with Iconia softbuttons
Thank you very much for these.
Heads up for users: using these with Hashcode's latest ROM (5/10) causes some odd behavior in the taskbar. I've repackaged Hashcode's systemUI.apk with the Iconia softbuttons.
Also note that the above files are a bit heavy on leftovers from each other (at least the Iconia version contains redundant .png files from the Asus one, and is thus needlessly large) . This version has only the four soft buttons added (down-arrow, back, home, recent).

Flashable zip
And here's a flashable version of the abovementioned file.
For those who are interested in flashing their own SystemUI.apk, feel free to use this .zip as a starting point. You can do it from your Android device quite easily:
1) Unzip with file-manager of choice (Root Explorer, for example)
2) replace SystemUI.apk file in unzipped folder
3) rezip (multi-select -> select both "META-INF" and "system" folders; zip)
4) sign file with Zipsigner2
You can use this very method to remove/add files to flashable zips. I do this with each ROM I flash, removing unnecessary files (audio, video folders; superfluous apk files (phone, etc.)), adding ones I want (hosts file, init.d scripts, etc.), and editing the build.prop, all before I flash. What a world we live in, friends.

Thanks for doing this, I reported in Hashcode's dev thread that the Acer Ui apk had issues with Hashcode's new rom. Notifications showed up in a green grid, USB storage notification icon looked like a mail icon and wouldn't allow access to USB storage. This eventually resulted in continuous force closes.
So, thanks. I've already used up my 8 thanks for the day, so I'll be sure to click thanks for you tomorrow.
EDIT: Just flashed the zip package and it worked perfectly. Also, thanks for providing the zip package, it'll come in handy down the road for other flashes.

These are great! Thanks for the update.
I don't suppose you know of any icons that are the same shade of blue as the battery / time / etc? It'd be great if you could include something like that one day if you have any plans for making more or the time, heh.

Don't know if you had a chance to update to Hashcode's new full rom 5/12a but looks like a small glitch on USB storage with the Acer SystemUI. When you connect, you get a message in notifications saying there's a problem connecting to USB storage but it actually does work. When you disconnect, you get the same message. I re-installed the original SystemUI and notifications were back to normal. Thanks.

* It is adviced to do a nandroid backup. (My opinion: if you root your device always do a nandroid backup of your system files )
* If you didn't make a nandroid backup and you had *USB Debugging* turned on, try the method described at the end of this post if you are running into troubles.
Recovery Procedure
In case you didn't make a nandroid backup and you can't reboot your device because you applied a mod for a wrong version, here's a simple way out: (Thanks to boisrobe!)
Open SuperOneClick and choose "Shell Root"
Start ADB, wait for the # prompt and enter the following commands:
#busybox mount -o remount,rw /system (or mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system ... if there's no busybox)
#rm /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#chown root.root /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#reboot

There is certainly no need for reflash after bad framework-res.apk copy.
What an user needs to do is to backup original file and then use ULK kernel's feature -> Modified CWM. U can adb push the old file to system/framework from there. (just first solution which crossed my mind)

GREAT! When the user runs the app for the first time, a backup of the original framework-res.apk is made in the root of the sdcard.
Note for users who are currently running a mod. Restore the original file before you are going to run this version. (Or get a original framework-res.apk for your rom in kalpik's thread)
If there is a backup on the root of the sdcard and u have ULK kernel installed, and user has a ADB connection available:
- boot into CWM recovery,
- select "mounts and storage",
- select "mount /mnt/sdcard",
- connect the USB cable,
- open adb shell connection
- type "cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk" (the second argument is backup file)
- reboot, should be fixed.
At the moment the app replaces the current framework-res.apk?
What about opening the .apk and just replace the few icons you want to change, so you will be able to combine many mods. Would be awesome.

Yep, I agree. But on the other hand, there's so much work done already on this by modders, that I don't see the point of reinventing the wheel. I think it's better this way. Modders can work independently and if they wish they can make their modded framework-res.apk available for this app in a fairly easy way.
It's a more pragmatic.
BTW one can make all kinds of modded framework-res.apk's available this way.

Thanks for testing!! I couldn't test the app myself all the way, because, like I said, I've sold my SGS. Although I really did like this phone, I had a unexplainable urge to go for the newest, hottest kid on the block, the Desire HD.
I based the code on the other app I made and that was tested to run without any problems, but yeah, you never know. I guess I can reduce all the warning signs in the first post a bit then

It's the battery icon of the Desire HD. The battery color fits with the other colors used by the DHD (selection color, color of for example checkboxes etc.) I don't know if it matches also with the blue theme of the Galaxy S. Anyway I can extract the battery icons and post them here. Maybe others can mod them for the SGS.
Great Work
It's work very well on JPO (CSC XEU)
Thanks

The colors don't fit well on SGS' original theme, but there's a lot of people using moded ROM's with grey themes. Also, most of the battery mods available look like a rainbow, to many colors.
I was looking around on the Desire forums and noticed that those icons are from the original ROM, and I remembered sawing a grey version of that.

Great app, nice work.
Any chance we can see some more battery mods for JPO? Ta.
First off I need to give credit where credit is due. Fisha21 blazed the trail with the first themed Uruk framework and did the hardwork of figuring out the steps to make it happen. Secondly, the themed pieces in this framework came mostly from JRummy16's blueberry LithiumMod so I claim absolutely no credit for that. There are other pieces picked up here and there, but I apologize for not knowing where they all came from.
This is mostly a complete work, but there is always room for improvement so I don't want to call it a 1.0. See the screenshots below for a small sample of what has been done, but there are many other tweaked images (something like 200-ish).
This is my first release to the public - normally I'd tweak things for my own personal use and never spread it around, but since there isn't a huge theme library for the Archos I thought I'd share for anybody that's interested. Constructive criticism is appreciated; if you find something that needs fixing please let me know and I can adjust it. I in no way think this work is perfect, but it's not too shabby in my opinion.

This will work on Uruk running off the SD or from the internal storage. Follow Fisha21's install steps:
"How to install
Needless to say, only attempt this if you are comfortable modifying system files. As we are using the SDE for this, the potential risk of bricking/ irreversible damage is low, but you should still have some idea what you're doing!
Just to clarify, I am using this on an UrukDroid 0.5 rooted Archos 101. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on any previous UrukDroid version, or other device sizes, but I haven't tested on any other configuration.
I know there are other (semi-permanent) root methods out there, and I know some people have UrukDroid running from their internal SD. I don't know how/if this will work with those setups, and I can't offer any advice/help for anyone wanting to try it in those setups. PROCEED CAREFULLY if you decide to try!
There are probably lots of other (neater) ways of doing this but this is the way I've found to work consistently for me.
All file manipulation on the device was done with Root Explorer.
1. Unzip the attached [bluep0rkframework-res.zip] to your SD card (the largest partition). Can be done directly on device, or over USB.
2. Find your original framework-res.apk (/system/framework) and back it up. I stored the backup in /system/framework.old, but its up to you - keep it safe! I would suggest keeping a copy on your computer also - you'll see why later!
3. Navigate to where you saved the new framework-res.apk, and change permissions to those shown in the screenshot below. I used the Root Explorer context menu, but those who prefer terminal commands, thats chmod 644.
4. Now MOVE (not copy) that .apk into the /system/framework folder. It will ask if you want to replace the existing file, just hit ok.
[p0rk burn: I'm not sure if my files will change color like Fisha's, but once you move it into the folder it should sit there for a while in RootExplorer - you will be able to scroll up and down but using the home key or any other buttons will not do anything - that means the new framework is loading, The rest of the setup should be like Fisha21 described: the screen will go black after a few minutes and sit for a little bit, before the homescreen loads back up.]
Now reboot the system.
The black screen after the UrukDroid screen may last a minute longer than normal, but just be patient. When it all comes back, you should see your new notification icons!
Once again, only do this if you are comfortable with editing system files. Though the risk of bricking is low, I can't offer any help if you do manage to kill your Archos!"

I had problems installing my own framework after updating to Uruk 0.6, which is also based in part on 2.1.04. Not sure if there was some change in the other contents of framework-res in the newer firmwares, but when I installed mine, I got into this loop where the soft buttons would appear on a black screen for a few seconds, disappear then reappear again. Is that what you experienced? I fixed mine by repacking my custom icons into a new framework-res extracted from the newest firmware.
Would you try installing my latest version from the theme forum, and see if that will work on your setup? I have also found a (hopefully) easier method, but it does require ADB.
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to hijack p0rn burn's thread or encourage people to use my framework over his. It would just be interesting to see if changing the base framework-res did make a difference, or if I unknowingly did something else to fix things. I have PM'd p0rk burn about my findings as well, so hopefully we can get both versions working!
The more help the better. Ill try to get a new framework up on monday for the new fw. Im on uruk .6 now so i need it too.
As promised, I have uploaded the blue themed framework for Uruk .6. It is attached to the first post for those of you that are interested. Please make sure you use the proper one, otherwise you will have to fix it before being able to boot back into Uruk.
This one has the modified progress_horizontal.xml so the volume bar and other progress indicators are properly themed.
If I feel motivated (or think people would actually care) I'll see about tweaking this a bit more and/or doing some more ports.

I'll try the widgets on my end but I haven't had any of those issues. My guess is it has to do with the zImage because I don't think changing out .pngs would cause those issues, but definitely something worth looking at.

you know, the blue market hack would fit perfectly to your theme ;-)
I know, I thought about throwing it in when I first started this but wanted to get a proof of concept first and then sort of forgot about it. With all the problems people have had with market installs on Uruk I was a little afraid to mess with it.
I'll see what I can do though.

hehe, i have the blue market (vs 2.3.3 from the xda thread) on the archos 101 now
i like the blue and its working
gonna see if it the blue and transparent market works too
Once again Fisha21 came through for the scene. If you want the blue market follow these steps. Should work with the other 2.3.3 markets, but I can't vouch for it personally. On the other hand, if you reached this point in tweaking your Archos fixing a botched vending mod probably doesn't scare you.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN
------------------------------------------------------
******************************************
I suggest creating a folder called softkeymods on your desktop, and in that make a new folder for all your different projects
because you can't change the zip file name without changing the xml, and since most of you probably don't want to do that, just do this, or ignore it and go your way
What I'm saying is you may create like 10 of your own zips with your own png's however the zip file name has to remain the same to work, so you won't be able to tell which is which etc., anyways lets do this. You can also do the same thing in your AndroidThemes folder at the root of your internal storage on the phone. Or if your daring, change the associate xml file to match the newly created zip file name if you wish.
1. open the downloaded zip in winzip/winrar etc.,
2. pull out the *.png down deep in the hierarchy
SystemUI > res > drawable-xhdpi > ic_sysbar_highlight.png
3. take the ic_sysbar_highlight.png and open it in your favorite image editing software... I used Jasc Paint Shop Pro
4. Get creative drag things in like other images, etc., just remember whatever you leave blank on the png, stays blank, which is not a bad thing, looks clear on the phone etc., keep that in mind
5. hit save when your done
6. drag it back into the SystemUI > res > drawable-xhdpi directory of the zip replacing the other one
7. put it in the folder of your new project and name the folder so you know what it is
8. now create the same folder in AndroidThemes folder on your internal storage
9. Unplug the phone as to unmount storage, or unmount it manually, your choice
10. open MetaMorph, download from market if you haven't already, free one is fine
11. tap Unzip / Extract new theme
12. find the folder of your newly created project
13. tap the zip, if its your first time doing this just hit close, but if you've done this before you'll have to hit update, then close
14. Tap apply all at the bottom right
15. Most likely SystemUI.apk wil crash and phone will be unusable
16. just pull the battery and reinsert and turn back on
17. enjoy your custom softkeys
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I'd like no have NO background and just have the soft buttons that way I can get my .1 inches of the display back LOL. Think it's possible?
Its just a black background. If it was transparent I dont think the screen would go down that far and if it did the soft buttons would be covering the dock so it wouldnt work. Thats why they made the screen the size it is so usable space is about 4.5 inches
Awesome idea!
rings are in drawablexhdpi...those other ones you found idk why they are there
I've done a couple ...they are neat.

Actually it should work.. if you break the systemUI.apk file the useable screen extends Down to the bottom of the screen. The buttons would still be there so you couldn't say place buttons there but it could make a pretty sweet look..

I'm assuming that this only works if you're on stock soft keys? This won't work for soft key mods with search keys will it?

should still work, it modifies one png in the /system/app/SystemUI.apk which is the png for the flash in the background of the softkey, so the beauty of it is, it will either work or it wont work, but nothing bad can come of it. I'm betting it'll work for sure, unless the xml was edited to pull the background flash png from another place or with another file name, hence the reason i say it'll either work or not work, but nothing bad can happen, so give it a shot and let me know, so i Can add it to the OP.

What about custom soft-key functions? I'm longing for the search/voice search button that my old DInc had.
Not sure why Google left this out in the GN :~(
Just tried this mod on zygot3 with the custom launcher. It didnt work, took away the soft buttons. Oh well I really love this mod but I also love having the settings button down there too... torn... lol

To follow this guide you must have:
HTC Wildfire S, Rooted, Unlocked Bootloader, Clockworkmod Recovery flashed.
Cyanogenmod 7.2 (any will do, normal or latest nightly.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494480
External SD card, Any size (larger than 512mb)
Your Cyanogenmod 7.2 ZIP, where the rom is in.
1.
Download This theme. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329375
Put the .APK (that is in the .ZIP file on your sd card, and install it with a File manager (download on market, i recommend astro or ES).
Apply the theme using the default app Theme Chooser (Cyanogenmod 7 only)
Fast link: http://www.mediafire.com/?dvws5vklawykap8
2.
Go to your theme chooser after installing the APK and select the theme.
If you like it already you can stop now, but if you want a real feel to it, i recommend installing the layouts and framework animations.
3.
To install the custom layouts, go to this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316574
Follow the video in that thread, and flash the .ZIP you get from it with Clockworkmod recovery. (MAKE A BACKUP FIRST)
EDIT:(feb 19)
Here's some links to the files already flashed, but i'm not sure if they work on all cm7 versions (i use a nightly not the normal one).
Just put on your SD card and flash with clockworkmod manager, the unpatch file is also there if you need it.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60852825/ics_patch.zip
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60852825/ics_undo.zip

I can't do that because it's mostly apps. But I could make a custom cm7 ROM like the miui one where it's all pre installed.

Hi,
when applying your theme on CM7.2 KANGO (latest nightly), colors/background in application Tasker are out of control (just doesn't look so good anymore) + some settings does have BLACK text on GREY background (it's not very readable). And thanks for custom layouts, it works (my wife's WildFire almost looks and behave like my Galaxy S with ICS ;-) )
thx . awesome!

Hey again,
Isnt it black-grey because you/your wife played with the theme settings?
Try changing things there, and it should work.
On default it all works for me.
I have started creating a custom CM7 rom that will have all this pre-included, plus the crappy gallery removed and added quickpic.
Hi, no, she wasn't playing with any settings, she better doesn't even touch it Actually when applying any other theme, it's fine. Now she is on Cyanbread and it's totally ok. It's really Wildfire S. Don't know what could be the problem....

This 1% Circle Battery Mod is based in large part on work by evilkal. And like evilkal said:
It is an unbroken circle that wanes down and is edited in 1% increments the entire way. That means you will need a ROM that supports this.
If you would like to use this in your theme, PLEASE ask me first. All I ask is for a little credit and that is all
Click to collapse
Why:
I liked evilkal's concept & implementation, but I didn't feel it meshed as well as I'd prefer with the other Holo themed status bar icons in cm10. So I ...
(1) added a dark grey 'under-circle' to keep the circle symmetry even when the battery is low.
(2) used the Roboto-bold Jellybean font for the percentage numbers and made the text bigger for easier reading.
(3) made the percentage numbers the same light grey as the adjacent E/3G/H/H+/etc. text on the signal strength icon.
(4) did away with the 100 percent battery text and replaced it with a full battery symbol in the same light grey. This also allowed bigger 0-99 percent text because I didn't have to leave room for that left-most 1 that's only shown 1/101th of the time.
How:
First I tried working with Photoshop - but it's really tedious and difficult to work with 202 different versions of the icon in 4 separate resolution settings. Then I switched to InkScape and based the icon(s) off a scalable vector graphic file. This worked like a charm and I now have a single file for all master map resolutions. I still had to slice the different master maps in Photoshop though.

ROM Specific:
I made the following CWM flashable zips for my own devices to get the mod installed with minimal fuss.
(1) Galaxy Nexus I9250 running only the following build - cm-10-20120911-EXPERIMENTAL-maguro-M1
zuberio-battery-mod-cm-10-20120911-EXPERIMENTAL-maguro-M1.zip (ALWAYS NANDROID BEFORE YOU FLASH)
(2) Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7510 running only the following build - cm-10-20120815-EXPERIMENTAL-p4wifi
zuberio-battery-mod-cm-10-20120815-EXPERIMENTAL-p4wifi.zip (ALWAYS NANDROID BEFORE YOU FLASH)
(3) Galaxy Nexus I9250 running only the following build - cm-10-20121011-EXPERIMENTAL-maguro-M2
zuberio-battery-mod-cm-10-20121011-EXPERIMENTAL-maguro-M2.zip (ALWAYS NANDROID BEFORE YOU FLASH)
(4) Asus Nexus 7 running only the following build - cm-10-20121011-EXPERIMENTAL-grouper-M2
zuberio-battery-mod-cm-10-20121011-EXPERIMENTAL-grouper-M2.zip (ALWAYS NANDROID BEFORE YOU FLASH)
Also, for the 'just-in-case' situation, I've created a CWM flashable undo zip. This will undo the replacement of your SystemUI.akp. How?: because my CWM mods move your existing SystemUI.akp to /sdcard/SystemUI_old.apk ... and the undo just grabs that file and puts it back in /system/app/SystemUI.apk
They look great!
Do they really only work on the specific builds that you posted or is that more of a "only guaranteed to work with :" kind of warning?

The images themselves should work on any build you mod them into. The CWM flashable files only work on their builds because my mod replaces the SystemUI.apk file in those builds with a modified one.
So don't use the CWM flash if that's not your build. You'll have to add the images to your build's SystemUI.apk file by decompiling and recompiling it.

Only flash the CWM zips if you're running one of those two builds. Otherwise, you need to mod your SystemUI.apk file manually with the image packs.
This is an excellent step-by-step guide explaining what you need to do with the image packs and your SystemUI.apk file.

Metamorph/zipthemer theme
I like this battery theme very much. Thank you!!
Keeping up to date with the CM10 nightlies, I'd rather not decompile/modify/recompile the apk everyday or so, I'm trying to make a metamorph theme.
Sadly, this being my first attempt to package a theme, it's not working.
It seems that I can't change the stat_sys_battery.xml and stat_sys_battery_charge.xml.
I attached the zip I produced, if anyone who knows a bit about that wants to look into it.
PS: I didn't find the THANK YOU button, otherwise, I would have pressed it
EDIT: it seems I can't add new png either, i can just replace existing ones...
EDIT: I got it to work, but I had to include a resources.arsc file. I'm not sure but I think it means it is not version independent...
Anyway, I included the file. It is only for xhdpi for the moment and works with CM10-20120924 . I'll test it on my next nightly. If someone wants another resolution, I can make it but I can't test it.
Hi zuberio,
nice work. So I decided to help you a bit.....for everyone who is running a rom with 1% incrementel mod......here are zuberios pics flashable for every rom on every device (but keep in mind.......rom must have 1% mod implemented). This flashable zip morphs only the png which your device needs (depends on the device is hdpi, mdpi, ldpi or xhdpi).....so really clean method
you can use it.

I tried making a zipthemer/metamorph zip. (See my previous post).
It works on the cm10-20120924 nightly, and should work on other nightlies too (maybe), but I can't test it because I only have the one phone.
It's only xhdpi at the moment but I can add more resolutions if people are interested.
I got a special request for a version without text.

This flashable zip morphs only the png which your device needs (depends on the device is hdpi, mdpi, ldpi or xhdpi).....so really clean method
you can use it.

use zip above I build with a modded flasher script by me.....will work on all roms which supports 1% pngs. Just injects the pngs you need.
regards
edit......sorry downloaded cm10 nightly and see that cm10 has 1% mod not implemented. So you have to edit xml's........sorry

CM10 added custom navigation bar (changing home/back/recent apps buttons) but when I apply your mod it breaks that (can't change the nav bar buttons anymore).

My CWM flashable file is for the M1 build which doesn't have custom navigation implemented in it. If you want your nightly running this mod you'll need to modify your SystemUI.apk file on your own.
Ok, I'm not familiar with editing apk's, so I'll just have to live without custom nav bar for a while
It would be cool if you can look into adding it to CM10's selection of battery mods (they already have a couple in there).

It's on my list of things to do as well as up there as a pet peeve. I need to figure out what generates the settings menu and then modify it. I have a suspicion it's not an XML file but a JAR file that needs to be modified.
I've submitted a ticket to CM to have this added to the build itself https://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=6216

...If it's not that specific CM10 build, then it WON'T be compatible, just like it says in the OP.
