Can someone help me.
I started off trying to install hashcodes new fff1.4
It installed ok and i got to the selection menu & selected normal boot
it said booting at the bottom of the screen and then sat like that for a couple of minutes, so I powered down (20 sec hold).
then i reinstall fff1.3 again(back to my original bootloader) (or so i thought) this time, it said not enough memory on partition? it was then that i realised I had selected the wrong file and had actually fastboot flashed twrp recovery by accident instead of fff1.4, so whilst still in fastboot i reflashed fff1.3.
the terminal said installed ok so i changed bootmode back to 4000. and then fastboot reboot the kindle switched off and never came back on.
Iv'e lost fastboot & adb.
it had a full charge (98%) before starting the install.
The thing is just dead.
so i made a factory cable and gave that a try still dead.
ive disconected & reconnected battery
can anyone who wants a challenge please help me.
Thanks in advance Steve

Kindle fire is Unbrickable, permanently anyways. I ruined my kindle fire pretty bad by being inexperienced and wiping pretty much everything. I was able to reclaim my kindle using the usb boot trick. It was sorta scary because I accidentally touched a power source and made a spark on the kindles motherboard. Once I got TWRP back, I could flash roms again. If I can pull this off, anyone can.
I used firekit installed on a usb stick and the usb boot trick. The commands for the usb boot trick were failing for me so I had to reinstall twrp using firekit. If you want, you can instant message me on [email protected] tombombman and I can walk you through it.

ok so i already have ubuntu on my pc, do i need the live usb?
iv'e tried
dowloading fk1.1
unpacked it on my desktop
opened terminal an typed sudo '/home/lovejoy777/Desktop/fk' & hit enter
i then enter my password when prompted and it returns with "sudo: /home/lovejoy777/Desktop/fk-1.1.zip: command not found"
iv'e also tried
su then enter
entered password
then i get "[email protected]:/home/lovejoy777#"
then, cd /home/lovejoy777/Desktop/fk then enter
then i get "bash: cd: /home/lovejoy777/Desktop/fk: Not a directory
[email protected]:/home/lovejoy777# "
can you walk me through the steps or do i need the live usb anyway?
I'm not sure of the exact steps to do this with ubuntu already on your pc. I just made the usb stick with some software I found on the web and then I put the fk file on the root of that usb stick.
I downloaded ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso and used Universal USB Installer 1.8.9.6 to put the image on USB. This is when you extract the fk file to the usb stick.
You just need to figure out how to run that fk file and it will setup the firekit environment for you.
You will know the kindle fire boots into usb mode when the green light doesnt turn on when you connect the usb cable. From there you can run the commands in firekit to reinstall fff & twrp. If the light does turn on, turn it off and try again.
One more thing, I had trouble running the commands from usb boot trick post, so I ended up just running the last command on the firekit post. So instead of, "./usbboot aboot.bin u-boot.bin; ./fastboot boot twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img" , I ran, "usb_fix_parts_and_install_fff_twrp"
iv'e tried to follow firekit guide but my pc is already multi boot windows 7,windows xp & ubuntu 12.04, it wont boot ubuntu off usbstick and i can't seem to get the fk utility to install.
iv'e got the fire kit on a usb stick and on desktop of ubuntu, iv'e tried to get to the part in guide where i would have "[email protected]:-/firekit# but just carn't get it to that directory.
as earlier posted iv'e already followed the usb boot guide but it just hangs at waiting for omap44xx device, even with contact point shorted to the framework & then inserting usb cable.
iv'e also checked voltage at battery and have 4v across all three sets of battery wires so as the indicator was showing a full charge before i started all of this im certain the battery is still good.
i need a way of using the firekit from within my current setup if poss.
Lovejoy,
It looks like you didn't unzip the fk archive.
What happens if you `cd ~/Desktop; unzip fk*.zip`
If that unzips, cd fk[Tab] (hitting the tab key to complete the directory name)
assuming the binary name is `fk`: `chmod a+x ./fk`
then, just ./fk and see if it executes.
What does your $PATH look like?
Perhaps putting . at the end of your PATH= line in ~/.bashrc would help.
sorry what does this line mean/do "assuming the binary name is `fk`: `chmod a+x ./fk`".
yes iv'e unpacked it to my desktop.
the location of fk is, /home/lovejoy777/Desktop (the name is) fk
iv'e also tried
[email protected]: /home/lovejoy777# cd /desktop/ fk'
when i hit enter the next line now has a ">"
any idea's?
I figured it out, Here is the command to install firekit from desktop.
sudo ~/Desktop/fk
It's case sensitive. If done right, you should now see:
~/firekit# at the end of the prompt.

The easiest way of getting ADB to work:
Turn your phone OFF (Yes, off)
Connect it to your pc and wait for windows to finish "installing the drivers"
Try ADBing by going to ure fastboot folder (assuming it has the ADB executable inside the folder as well).
You could check if your device was recognized by firing
Code:
adb devices
If it doesn't show anything then do the following:
Grab the appropriate pc drivers from here: http://www.android-advice.com/2012/how-to-root-the-htc-one-x-and-htc-one-s/
Extract the drivers
Now go to Start menu and right click on my computer and then click manage.
Now go to device manager and there you should see your connected One X listed as being without a driver.
Right click on that entry and select 'update driver'
Now tell it that you have the driver on local disk and then browse to the folder you extracted.
Update your driver.
Disconnect and reconnect the device and try ADBing again.
Should work.
If your phone is off then Windows won't see it. Just install HTC Sync (so you get the drivers - you can uninstall HTC Sync afterwards if you're not going to use it) then plug the phone in when booted into Android. Repeat process when in FASTBOOT to get Windows to see the phone in FASTBOOT mode as well
Simples!

I didn't think it would but Jotha told me that it would. I tried it and it worked. I was surprised.
Yes device is seen through adb when off.
This is because as soon as you plug the USB cable, offmode comes up with charging and ADB support
Offmode is embeded in the recovery partition
PS: This needs latest clockworkmod recovery to work...
Latest ADB?
Hi!
When i was restoring my Sensation to S-ON i noticed that ADB was complaining about version out of date something....
Where can i get the latest version of ADB for using with my One X when i've decided if i should wait or use hTC bootunlocker...

Android SDK straight from Google should take care of that.

No. As long as the cable is properly USB 2.0 compliant, it WILL work, otherwise HTC CANNOT certify against USB 2.0. Tried with proper Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Google cables.

I can understand the difficulty. This problem is pretty common because there are no official drivers for Win10. These drivers work best on XP. I also could not get the adb to work on my Win10 so I installed Ubuntu and rooting/installing ROM's from ubuntu is a breeze.. srry for not hvng a solution for this.
Yes, another one of these issues. None of the other threads provided me any help, so new thread time! Allright, so I had just flashed a stock 6.3.1 Kindle Fire Rom. It all went well. Then I wanted to install FireFireFire Dualboot for other purposes, so i rebooted my Kindle fire first, (I always do this before I do anything rom/recovery related.) I went to adb shell on my computer told it to reboot into fasboot using "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader u-boot.bin" It boots into fastboot but, the bootloader diddn't seem to install and now my device can't be found on the KFU or standard ADB shell. I would appreciate any help on this issue as I need this kindle fire to be working. I have rebooted it 3 times too see if it could be found it just show "Unknown Device". Thanks, I can provide more info if the need be.

When you say, " the bootloader diddn't seem to install", could you be more specific?
What does your boot screen look like now?
Were there any error messages?
Did fastboot hang at "waiting for device"?
Do you have custom recovery installed?
Of so, what custom recovery do you have installed?

1. Boot screen is saying "KindleFire" the stock one not FFF.
2. No error messages
3. Yes, it hangs at "waiting for device"
4. No I don't
That's what I meant by "It diddn't seem to install".
Okay, the "waiting for device" simply means the drivers aren't working properly. I do not use Windows so I cannot offer any real help other than to tell you to reinstall them. There is a world of different suggestions for fixing the driver problem that you can find by searching the forums or even Google, but they're all hit and miss.
I will tell you to work on the driver issue until you can't take it anymore and then consider, possibly, other options.
Well, I might as well as just use soupkit, as I am dualbooting Ubuntu and Windows XP Pro. I have to wait a bit untill I can use it but, I have it all setup, so I'll get back too you when I get to try it out. If this doesn't work I will do the reinstall drivers, like you said, and hopefully that works. Thanks, for the help!
Update:
Soupkit diddn't work. (FK, not USBboot)
So, now onto Windows XP driver reinstallation.... Yay...
If this doesn't work I guess ill have to do the shorting trick.
Alright, So I did all of your suggestions, soupmagnet. None of them have worked, so I'm lead to beilive it's in some sort of state that won't allow it to be recognized on any ADB shell. I'm going to try the shorting trick, if that doesn't work then I'm pretty much screwed for all I know.
UPDATE:
Just too make sure it wasn't just my Lenovo computer, I pulled out my old gateway, setup the driovers correctly and everything. ( I tested too see if it detected my phone, it did) and it still diddn't detect my Kindle Fire, just said "Unknown Device"
I also have this same issue as well, was going to root my stock 6.2.1, but unplugged it on accident, no FFF, and stuck on the stock orange kindle fire logo.

You should see a device labeled either Lab 126 (normal mode) or Google Inc. (fastboot).
Also pay attention to the numbers assigned to the device. You should see one of the following sets:
1949:0006 (for normal mode)
18d1:0100 (for fastboot) -sorry for the typo: fixed-
Anything different will throw off the SoupKit, but it is still fixable.
If "lsusb" doesn't show anything of the sort, you may have bigger problems.

What "lsusb" does, is tells you what USB devices are detected by the system. It doesn't fix anything. It's used a lot as a troubleshooting tool.

Don't know if this helps but,
Correct. So, if you ran the SoupKit and rebooted afterwards, there's no reason it shouldn't work.
Since you are in normal mode, send "adb devices" and tell me what happens. Include error messages if any.
[Edit:] Apparently you posted the pics as I was writing this. This is very interesting. I've seen an issue like this in the not too recent past where a user had a BSOD in the middle of flashing the bootloader. It sort of hard-bricked his device except he could still power it on, but it would not accept commands for anything, and he had the same "unknown device" error. As far as I can remember, it was his bootloader that was messed up, even though it would still power up.
What does "lsusb" give you in fastboot mode?
Adb devices

1949:0006 is shared by the the stock system software, recoveries, CM7 based ROMs and the stock bootloader. These two numbers alone are insufficient to determine the "mode" of the device, so you might very well be in fastboot mode. If you get these numbers, you have to take a look at the bcdDevice value.
Code:
lsusb -v | grep bcdDevice
1.00 is the bootloader.
2.16 is one of the others.

Sorry, I left out "gedit". It should be "sudo gedit /etc..." oh well, whatever.
Either way, that much is correct. It's a tricky situation with stock software because, the boot logo and boot animation are basically the same, and as kinfauns has said, the two modes share the same IDs. But in your case, you can't send either fastboot or adb commands, which makes for an interesting situation. Your udev rules are configured properly for the device, so other than it being in fastboot with a partially broken bootloader, I can't imagine what would cause it to not connect properly.
Definitely use the command that kinfauns gave you and find out what mode you are in. If you are in fastboot, it would seem that your bootloader is corrupt in some way and you would have to use the Firekit to fix it.
As far as I know, if you are using the "shorting trick" correctly to boot the device in USBboot mode, the Firekit should work regardless. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

I'm going to use the "shorting trick" as a last resort. It's looking like I will anyways. I will post as soon as I get that mode (USB cord is being used at the moment)

If (when) you try the shorting trick, it's best to use a sharp pair of tweezers or a safety pin to keep from losing the connection while plugging the USB cable in. And the picture of the actual point posted on Pokey's thread is a little misleading...it's considerably smaller.
So, I tried searching for days on how to fix my problem.
A little while ago I rooted my Kindle Fire, and it was great. Then I did something. Not sure exactly what. But It ended up just doing nothing. When I boot up the Kindle it shows the blue and white Kindle Fire logo. Nothing else past that (unless I go to recovery.) Now, my computer doesnt recognize it anymore, even after doing most of the driver updates that people on here have said to do.
I need help, basically, getting it back to normal, so I can give rooting a try again. Now that I know what exactly I am dealing with, I can do this and not screw everything up.
First, the computer says the driver is installed, yet it doesnt recognize it.
Second, (before the driver mishap) KFU said it was connected but the adb was unknown.
Third, I have CWM and I tried to flash the normal Amazon update to bring it back, and it says"it cant open it (bad)".
Now, I would really like some help with this. I'm just at a complete lost.
Now should I put that into command prompt in the adb part? because it just says fastboot is not recognized.
Yes, It wont do that, it just says error: device not found. also says 'fastboot' is not recognized.
Now its just not connecting to the computer. I installed Android sdk and everything and its just not working. It says the driver is installed but there was an error because a problem had occurred. Any help? :crying:
As soon as you get tired messing with drivers you can move on to something that works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850038

I hope u r on windows PC..
first after u set up adb, make sure u install adb drivers that came with kindle fire utility with ur kindle fire unplugged..if u had plugged in kindle fire while doing that, go to device manager and uninstall that device and its driver software and start up from beginning..
keep kf unplugged and install driver..u dont get usb debugging option in stock kf rom..its enabled if u have installed the drivers properly..ur kindle fire appears as android phone in device manager if everything u hav done is correct..
then boot up ur kf..that blue and white kf logo is of firefirefire bootloader..i hope its v1.4a and u see it on right top of the screen..if its stuck there then open command prompt as administrator on ur pc..connect ur kf to pc..type in to cmd
Code:
fastboot devices
if u see something under list of devices attached that will be ur kindle fire(unless some other android device is connected in fastboot mode lol)
Because kindle fire, as far as i know, can only boot into 3 bootmodes(normal, recovery, fastboot) unless u have altered the partition table to install different roms and multiboot ur kindle fire..
if fastboot command is not recognized, try setting the path to where fastboot.exe is present in KFU folder
alternatively u can go to folder where fastboot.exe is located and right click while holding shift and selecting 'open command window here' and fastboot needs to firefirefire bootloader to be installed on ur kindle fire..
also u can try this..
JUST GO TO RECOVERY..twrp has always been a better recovery software than cwm based thing available for kindle fire at least for me..if u go to recovery, ur kf will definitely show up as an adb device..u can change the bootmode using this..just type in:
Code:
adb devices
if ur kf is seen as in recovery then type this in cmd
Code:
idme bootmode 4000
reboot
just report if this worked..
okay well, I deleted all the drivers and started from the beginning. Yet, after running the install_driver.bat I plugged my Kindle in and it still says device not recognized. Now, you how can get adb working? It is coming up as unknown device. Its just seeming like theres something wrong on the kindle part. But hey, what do I know. haha
lol try what will work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850038
But doesn't that require linux? I have windows 7. Is there something like that for windows?

Hi i have the same problem but the only thing is that my device is actually verified by the coputer and can connect via usb mount but when i try to install a ROM it says unable to mount and cannot install rom but i see there is something for fixing mounting problems there in soupkit so i'll give it a try.
This is what I get when I try to install the driver....
To run soupkit all you need is at least a 2 gig usb flash drive ubuntu 12.04 32 bit and universal usb creator. By the way your problem with the driver is you (or how you`re going about it), You would trip if I got on your computer and got it to work or could at least tell you why its not working. that`s why I suggested soupkit if you would of actually read the information I gave you, I wouldn`t have had to tell you twice and you would know that to use it it`s not required to be installed on your computer. But hey catch me online I can either help you fight through windows crappy drivers or help you set up soupkit I`m always game for a challenge When updating the driver you need to point it to the 32 bit version of the driver for instance on my computer it`s located here C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Desktop\Kindle_Fire_Utility_v0.9.6\Kindle Fire Utility\drivers. After it`s ran unplug and replug device if that doesn`t work power off and power on while connected this generally does the trick when windows finally catches on it will install android adb interface, this is the fastboot driver (if you`re stuck in fastboot). Then select option 1 in KFU for changing bootmodes, then option 1 for normal if it does nothing power off and power on while connected it should then detect the kindle and reset the bootmode to normal. Pm me later I will be online all evening and most every evening I will help you sort it out.

Yes soupkit can fix mounting problems.
This is a very interesting issue with this Kindle windows detects it as unknown usb device, drivers are installed properly from what I can see. Ubuntu with soupkit ran on it fails to detect it in recovery or fastboot. multiple cables tried, lsusb doesn`t show the device connected. I really think this one the computer is the problem, because it`s the only unchanged variable.
Firekit may be the only option if Linux won't detect the device. Before doing that, make sure a USB 3.0 port isn't being used and try a fresh install of Linux to be safe. Otherwise, it seems putting it in USBboot is the only option for getting Linux to detect.
I'm not exactly sure what causes the unknown device error, but it almost always means there is something wrong with the bootloader, and it seems as though Windows might be the main culprit. Not sure why exactly, but it may be similar to the problem soulweeper51 had. Possibly a hardware issue involving the computer's USB port or the motherboard itself.
@ManoFishFry has doomlords cwm recovery and he flashed JB at first I thought it was an issue with cwm not being detected but the fact that it`s not detected in fastboot raised my eyebrows. The bootloader appears to be functional but I cannot rule out any minor state of being broken in another fashion when lsusb returns null. The computer doing the work had never been used prior to the incident so driver install didn`t take place till after the fact. The usb ports are all either 1.0 or 2.0 no 3.0 ports are being used. An alternate computer would be nice to rule out the computer itself @ManoFishFry only has a dinosour of an xp machine as alternate use of is not possible yet, not that it would even be possible to install drivers because of the typical unsigned driver failure of xp and booting ubuntu isn`t happening at the moment on this machine.
I'm willing to bet it is the bootloader.
Just USBboot and get it over with.
We did try usb boot once but it didn`t work will keep trying.
I am total noob. Just want to make that clear from the get go.
I hesitate to start a new thread, but I have been working on this forever, and have not made any progress.
I have a Kindle Fire that I would like to run android on - I started the process with the Kindle Fire Utility v 0.9.9. Something went wrong, and it is now stuck on the Kindle Fire start up logo. I also can no longer see it in the device manager, nor is it responsive to anything in the Utility. (ADB status: Offline Boot Status: Unknown). I am at a loss, does anyone have any ideas? Your help is appreciated!
.................FIGURED IT OUT!..............................
Much thanks to the pooch who spent hours helping me troubleshoot.
What we (he) did, as far as I remember, hopefully this can be of some service to someone else out there.
1) Figured out that trying all of this on a Virtual Machine is not a good idea!
2) I somehow broke the bootloader in my first attempt, so none of my computers were recognizing the KF.
3) Created a Pendrive to run Linux (ubuntu). Here Requires a USB drive formatted Fat16/Fat32/NTFS, minimum of 2 gb.
4) Once I got Linux running, installed SoupKit.
5) Went through a few tries of booting, rebooting, into recovery mode until the Kindle flickered back to life!
6) Followed prompts on SoupKit to install TWRP, updated TWRP, install FireFireFire, install Android 4.2.
Good luck, I am happy to answer any questions - though I am no means an expert now.
What I have tried...more info
More Information:
I am running Windows7 in a VirtualBox on an iMac.
I bricked the Kindle a few weeks ago, after messing with it then, I bought a factory fastboot cable. Still no dice.
I have tried all turning on and off computer, on and off Kindle with it disconnected, connected, going through the KFU 4 seconds after starting the Kindle. Letting the Kindle's battery die, recharging.
I have deleted .android folder, reinstalled drivers, re-downloaded KFU.
I have tried on a different computer (Windows XP) The Kindle is also not recognized there.
I have tried booting into Ubuntu (however in the directions there, it said the FireKit is for more "serious" issues than my soft brick.
I am sure there is some small detail I am missing, but I have not been able to find it - and I am not knowledgeable enough to properly diagnose the problem. Again thanks for any help.

Sometimes KFU will show as Unknown even though it's really fine. I had the same issue as you. Try switching boot mode to Normal and see if that fixes it, it worked for me.

I tried that. When I type "fastboot getvar product" it says waiting for device or something similiar.
The advice applying to Device Manager don't get me anywhere, because my Kindle doesn't show up.
Any other ideas?

When using the stock bootloader (plain "kindle fire" boot logo), the fastboot command must always specify the custom vendor ID used by the Kindle Fire. For example, the commands above must be slightly altered to...
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
fastboot -i 0x1949 devices
and likewise, all of the following commands will need the "-i 0x1949" switch when using the stock bootloader. The FFF bootloader's vendor ID has been changed to one that is normally recognized by fastboot, so the "-i 0x1949" switch can be omitted.
Now onto some more useful fastboot commands...
Code:
fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot oem idme bootmode 4002
fastboot oem idme bootmode 5001
Using one of these commands will change the bootmode to normal (4000), fastboot (4002) or recovery (5001). Then issuing...
Code:
fastboot reboot
will reboot the device into the respective bootmode.
I've tried that as well...
Just so I am totally clear, this is what I did in relation to those instructions:
Opened Command Prompt - set the directory to C:/kfu/tools
Typed "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" (with out the quotations, obviously)
<waiting for devices>
I plugged Kindle in, it powers on and the frozen logo pops up.
I also tried "fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000" and "fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4002"
According to the guide it often takes multiple tries, I have done it over and over again.
I have also tried different orders of code, plugging in Kindle, and powering on and off.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a specific code for my Kindle? (Not -i 0x1949)
Thanks!
Have you tried this?

Reinstall the driver then use kfu to reset the boot mode to normal.
Drivers?
I did try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1660636
When I get to the part about the Device Manager, I am stuck, as nothing shows up (I suspect something do with drivers)

By reinstall drivers do you mean clicking on "install_drivers" in the KFU folder? I have tried that.
Is there another method of uninstalling and installing drivers? Sorry if that is a dumb question!
If the devices is in fastboot which I believe it is it would show up as android adb interface, if it was attempting to boot to the system it would show up as android composite adb interface. If you are on xp or windows 8 this can be a bit of a tricky task. Android adb interface and android composite interface are two facets of the same driver. So yes I suggest rerunning the driver installation bat that is packaged with KFU. If perhaps you are on windows 8 you must disable driver signature verification and reinstall the driver. 3.0 usb ports have an issue with fastboot and can leave the device undetected.
Still not working

Thanks for the quick reply.
So I am on a Win7 and/or a Windows XP. Currently on both systems, when I plug it into the computer, with the Device Manager open, nothing happens other than the Kindle turning itself on.
Before it froze up, I saw it in device manager as Android ADB interface, and before doing anything at all, saw it as the default Kindle Fire.
On the Win7 system, I have rerun the driver installation bat over and over and over again, with absolutely no results.
On the WinXP, I have tried it, and for the life of me can't get it to install (it says install failed (Unsigned)). I never connected the Kindle up to this computer before it froze up, so I wonder if that is somehow causing the problem (it is trying to update drivers that don't exist?)
Am I doing something wrong with this? Can I uninstall or delete drivers, and totally start over?
If you are using a WinXP you must install driver manually.

How do I do that, when the Kindle does not show up as being connected? All the guides I have found start off with accessing from the Device Manager. My Kindle does not show up in the Device Manager...
okay well then you`re running xp use another computer getting the driver installed is hard even for the very skilled particularlly when the device is stuck in fastboot. Friend or relatives computer running windows 7 would be perfect. Otherwise it`s linux on a live usb booted on your xp machine.

Yeah so I have a Windows7. I have reinstalled the drivers (by clicking on the install_drivers.bat file in the KFU) over and over again, and I still do not get any recognition on the computer, or in the Device Manager when I plug in the Kindle.
Try different usb port, make sure they are usb 2.0. Is the logo static or animated? It possible that you broke the bootloader. At some point I would be willing to look at some things for you via teamviewer. If it is not driver related I fear your next move is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038. Keep it on charger or off till it can be dealt with.

Thanks! I would be willing to give it a shot (teamview I mean) if you are willing.
I tried the Firekit before I began this thread, but I kept getting stuck trying to run the tool after booting into ubuntu. Perhaps that is a different thread topic, but I am more than willing to put more work into figuring that out, if it could be the key to unlocking this stupid thing.
I am having this exact same problem. Using Win XP i was able to get the ADB drivers loaded initially and used KFU to try to install TWRP. When it rebooted during that process it got stuck at the Kindle Fire logo. Since then I cannot get my computer to recognize the kindle. Like you, I feel like i've tried everything.
