Partition SDHC - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Kingston 4gb class4 sdhc card.I want to install galaxy nexus by JM.so how to format card for how much size.can we alter size in future means if another Rom needs more size than this?if yes then how can we?can we delete partition in future?
What is mtd partitioning?
Iam using cwm4.0
Thanks in advance

for installing galaxy nexus by JM,i created 512Mb external partition with 0 swap size. You can create SD card partition from recovery. It can be deleted whenever you want by formatting the SD card.
For MTD partitioning you can see this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233340
for galaxy nexus by JM 145Mb system partition and 20Mb cache size should be enough.

If I create 512 mb with 0 swap size SD card partion does other any custom rom will automatically detect it?
Ext3 or ext4 which one to choose for partitioning?

I might be wrong but I think CWM recovery creates ext3 partition on your SD card,so that would do.
And I have used the same 512Mb partition for rempuzzle rom and for galaxy nexus by JM as well. But when I installed MIUI gingerbread it didnt seem to work, coz it was moving apps to the unpartitioned space. So I think it should work only for the roms for which a partition is required.I might be wrong though.

Correct me if Iam wrong that means a Rom which does not us sd-ext feature will not boot or will have some problem???

If a ROM doesn't use the EXT partition there is no problem.
You can even flash DarkTremor A2SD to get the same functionality.

K...thanks guys...can someone provide a link for darktremor a2sd

Partitioning Sd Card Problem

Hi,
I partitioned sd-card with several ways but my htc desire does not see the ext2/ext3 partitions.
the configuration is that
ClockWork recovery 2.5.0.7
CyanogenMod-7 for Desire GSM V7.0.0-RC1
16 GB Class 4 Toshiba micro sdcard
latest try to partition sd card is now : 13,91 fat32 primary
1024 ext2 primary - tried also ext3
My Htc desire shows me as : sd card Total space : 13,91 GB
internal storage Total space : 148 MB
the ways that I used:
-Gparted-Live - success to partitioning
-Pmagic 5.10 - success to partitioning
-sdsplit with android terminal : - unsuccessful to partitioning
the file exist but when I try : - &su
- #/data/sdsplit -nd -fs 14350M
it says me : the file not found
-MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition - success to partitioning
-I tried also flashing ClockWork recovery to amon-ra 2.0 with unveroked 3.2 for partitioning sd card but it says me "error: failed to get root. ıs your firmware too new?" - unsuccessful
What should I do?
Please help?
Your internal memory does not charge when using a ext partition/a2sd. So how do you know it's not working.

I have AppsToSd tool installed and it always says me "it looks like your SD card isn't partitioned correctly..."
I do not know an other way if it's working...
That tool does not use the same a2sd solution, it uses the stock froyo one. You wouldn't need that tool if you were running a rom with a2sd / a2sd+

ok,
What should I do so?
and how can I understand it's working?
grab an app called quick system info from the market and in the basic info tab it lists a2sd storage and internal storage.
You'll know its working when you install something and the internal storage doesn't drop by the size of the app you installed.
Also if you use Rom manager from the market (after you're rooted) that can create the next partition for you. Just back up your card first since it wipes it.

this may sound stupid, but it happened to me.. When you create your partitions, are you making the EXT 2/3 first? it MUST be the first partition, wether it is listed as primary or not. I had sooo many fustrations till i figured out you must make the ext2/3 first, then the fat32 or whatever else.
Besides that.. WHY do you need a2sd? if you are using the CM7-RC1.. I'd recommend you use the CM7 HBOOT as well. that gives you a 300mb data which is tons of room.. just a suggestion.
Thank you nismoau,
I see the a2sd storage and it shows me the partition size but I installed some application from sd card and still drop the internal storage size.
what should be wrong?
mikeandjaimie thank you too
I need it because I want to install more applications. So How can I install CM7 HBOOT?
thanks...

You have to go S-Off (with AlphaRev.nl 1.8) and there you can select to use the Cm7 HBOOT.

Possable to make a 1gb EXT4 with out format?

Every sense ROM requires a ext4 so i was wondering if i could make a partion of 1gb on my SD card with out reformatting, if this is possible any links or help would be appreciated.
thanks
Try MiniTool Partition Wizard.. [sometimes] allows you to resize your FAT32 partition and put in an ext4 and change both to primary....
Sometimes it lets me resize, sometimes it doesn't. Have yet to figure out why though..
Don't use mini partition wizard. Many users reported it destroyed their sd card. So use GParted, it's worth it to deal with this software.
Not all sense roms need a partition, try cool bravos

Recently I partitioned my sd card with gparted and vmware. Didn't had to format card. Gparted managed everything. Very powerfull and easy tool.
Just follow @rootSU guide.

You can convert ext3 partition to ext4 by 4EXTRecovery, You don't lose any data from the partition sdcard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154221
Or you can use the file from coolex that your partition convert ext3 to ext4, just flash the same like rom from recovery.

Also Alignment_Cool.zip Convert Your Ext3 Partition To Ext4"

Yeah that's a bit slow but you could give it a try. I started with a class 2 card, too. Then I switched to class 6 because of the speed.

If you already have ext partition use recovery to convert it to ext4 as advised by Gramzz. if not its better to make backup and recreate FAT32 and ext4 partition you can also do this using recovery or use Gparted on computer.

Help anyone

That depends, does the rom suggest a partition type to use? And what do you intend to use the partition for? And fyi clockwork mod recovery can partition your sdcard

Step 1. Read the forums, use the search function & ask the Oracle(The all knowing all powerfull Google)
No no, that can't be right.
Step 1. Launch ROM Manager.
Step 2. Partion SD card
(I believe this makes an ext3 partition)
LOL
Back up your SD card fist duh!
In mini partition
I would format the card. Then right click and create each parition from the unnalocated space. Fat32, then ext2/3/4 depending on your rom, set all of these as primary. Now make a Linux swap and set as logical.

I ve sucessesfully partioned mem card via Rom manager.but I selected only 256 mb.should i formatt d SD card for doing d partion process again

Better system of partition

Hi everyone.
I have my SD Card with DATA2SD, but I've problems with fluidity and lag of the ROM (CM9 and ParanoidAndroid). ¿Which is the better system of partition for a 2GB SD Card?
Sorry for my bad english . Thanks!
Make 1gb fat32, 600mb ext4/ext2 and the remaining (at least or more than) 418 linuxswap. Make sure that all are primary partitions. For link2sd use ext2 data2sd ext4.
Linux swap partition needs to be at least equal to the size of ram.

Another question... How can I do the partition? With ROM Manager it's possible?

Format your sdcard after backing up. Or use some partition manager. This should be in Q&A for future reference.

Yes I also don't understand the concept of link however I have read much abt it online....
Can any1 tell me when I link an app to my ext3 partion, the similar contents that are in my internal memory gets stored in my ext3 partion....so if I try delete the original delvix file from internal memory why does the app force close even though I have same delvix file in my ext3 partion....
Please help me understand this?

What space? Dont use ext3, it will slow Ur phone. Use ext4. U need minitool partition home edition.
Data2sd has this problem U cant recover the partition to use with other roms. One back up can be used with that rom only. But U can recover via titanium backup. The main advantage with data2sd is U can install a game which is suppose 200mb. which U can never install by link2sd. as it will show low memory error.
If U want to use link2sd use odex version, it has 120mb user space.
