When I try to update when it reboots and tries to install it but then it gives me an android with an exclamation mark. What should I do? I'm on stock rooted with a custom recovery, I think its something to do with the recovery right?

You can't accept and auto-install an OTA with a custom recovery image. You have to either have stock recovery and let it install, or use CWM to flash it manually.
What's the easiest thing to do? How would I be able to do it?

Your choice. Either flash back to the stock recovery and accept the OTA, or get a download of the OTA and flash it thru CWM.

Are they posted here in the forums? It would be nice if you could provide either one for me but if the files are in the forums I'll look for them

I'd say its easier to flash manually thru Cwm.
Ok so I flashed the radios is there anything else I need to flash now?

Hello everyone
After the jelly bean update. I lost root. Then I rooted with the wug fresh rooting toolkit. Then I flashed cwm from the ROM manager. When I tried to go to cwm to flash a ROM it showed the android with the red sign which I think means that you don't have recovery.
But look at this screen shot.
Do you guys have any idea what might be happening?

thats the stock recovery.
1) stop using toolkits
2) delete recovery-from-boot.p from /system
3) reflash cwm recovery.
Hey my samsung galaxy s3 was bricked when I tried installing a kernal for a jb rom and I restored it to stock in odin.
Right now its just stuck on the Samsung Boot logo and the blue led is shown but it wont boot up. What do i do?
Reflash. By chance, can you get into recovery?

No, not at all. When i hold volume up + power + home it vibrates twice and turns off and does the same thing when I hold it which makes it turn on. I can get to download mode though

Use the ota in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895100
It's lg1 then just accept the ota after you do it to get to lh9.
Sounds like you just flashed a bad ota.

Ok so ive finished the installation of the CALH1 on odin but my phone is still on the boot logo. What do i do now?
Not lh1 here:
Flash this in odin: http://d-h.st/u2B <<< AT&T lg1
Thats the image i used to get back to stock with root. After that flashes the system will boot and say there is an update if you want the latest os then install rootkeeper from play store and run it that will preserve root. Once you run rootkeeper accept the update and that will get you to lh9 the latest os.

No, not yet i cant really get into clockwork recovery at all if you read my post above. I got into this whole mess by flashing a kernal on a jb rom whe i was rooted and i probably shouldnt have because it bricked my phone. But ive done almost everthing above and now im willing to do anything to get my phone back up and running. Will flashing the kernal for it fix it?
Yes, if you can find a way to enter download mode flash a stock rooted kernel and a stock ROM. You may need a jig to enter download mode

I can enter download mode without a problem all i need is the kernal you said which would possibly fix my phone.
The lg1 update i gave you has the boot.img (kernel) with it. It is everything, boot.img, system, modem, etc. Sounds bad but are you sure you are using odin correctly ?

Yes I think so, i run odin with administator tick auto reboot and F. Reset time click PDA and located the root69.stock_ATT_I747UCALG1.tar (the old boot img you gave me) and connect my phone while it is in downloading mode and press start. Is that right?
You need to find a way to wipe
Data and cache and dalvik

Can you even do that on a bricked phone? Is there a program I can do it through? I can't load my clockwork recovery at all.
Did you try the toolkit?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Hope this helps. I had a similar issue once where the phone gets stuck at the Samsung logo. What I did was booted into stock recovery and did a wipe cache and wipe data. The phone booted up successfully after that.
U can also flash CMW through ODIN and do all the wipes (dalvik, cache and data) and I'm pretty sure ur phone will boot up.

Yes. I did so and I used option 7 in the toolkit. But you can just download the stock recovery file from the dev section and flash it through the PDA slot of Odin.

Thanks, BTW would you have the link to the one to use in ODIN, Just not sure what search to do. THANKS!
I would recommend using the toolkit. I don't know where the file is for the stock recovery. The toolkit downloads all the files you need and simply walks you through the steps of using Odin to flash it. It even puts the device into download mode for you and opens odin for you. The only way it would be easier is if you didn't have to even navigate through Odin.
Or you could always go to the QBKing77 video that was linked earlier. He always has links in the description of his videos, and he's one of the best instructors out there at rooting, unrooting, and everything in between.

Like the title says, I'm trying to update to Jelly Bean on my Sprint SG3, but my device status says "modified" so it's not letting me (error 7). My phone is currently rooted. I've read that you need to flash to a stock rom and wipe your phone to remove this "modified' status. Is this the only way to remove it? If so, is there a step-by-step guide with required downloads available? Thanks!
Your not able to update solely because your rooted.
Just Odin to the newest version

Heres this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114 rather then odin, you can install that app, and reset your flash counter.

Will I lose any data flashing this? Also, how do I flash it? Just put in on my SD card and go into recovery and flash it? I removed my clockwork mod and went back to stock recovery, I don't know if that will make a difference.
Sprint is pushing out a minor update and 3 times now I've tried to accept it and when the phone restarts the TWR screen comes up with all its options.
I don't know what the heck to do from there! So, I just reboot the phone but don't get the update.
How do I accept the update on that TWR screen?

You have to be on a stock recovery to be able to flash OTA updates. You're going to have to reflash the stock recovery for your device. Try doing it through mobile odin and tell it to flash only the recovery partition.
Cheers!

I greatly appreciate your reply but I'm afraid I don't know how to do what you've directed.
What is mobile odin?
You have the stock rom ?
If yes then open it with 7zip. Extract the recovery. Img
And flash it via mobile odin.

Apologies for my questions but I have stared at your post for days, weeks even and I still don't understand. I was embarrassed to ask but I have to because the notification to install the update comes multiple times a day now.
Where, and HOW, do I open the ROM?
Is this all done on the phone itself?
Do I install 7zipon my phone?
Do you have the stock rom? If yes flash it.

Than You for even offering help. You are Kind.
Yes my friend. I am rooted and I have the stock ROM.
I've flashed ROMs before but have never flashed a ROM that was already active.
How would I do that?
So sorry to ask.
Just flash the rom as a normal one.
Then update via ota.
