[APP] DSPManager - Improve Audio - HTC One X

So XDA comminty is always helpful and now it's my turn to try and give something back.
Dr.Dre feat DSPManager
first thing to do is download DSPmanager (attached to this post).
Install
Stock / non rooted phones
download and install DSPManager2.apk
Just installing the .apk seems to be causing a force close when editing the EQ for some people so stick to presets and all should be well.
CWM
download DSPManager-v3.zip put on to your SD and flash.
This also installs /system/lib/soundfx/ files from cm9 ROM for HTC one x - thanks to TripnRaver and also adds system/etc/audio_effects taken from DPS v1 fix for ICS
IF you do not wish to see a tutorial/ how I set dps up on my phone skip the rest of this post.
once installed open it up
first on the list is to move over to the headset tab, swipe left to right.
first option we need to set is Bass Boost

i set mine to Moderate as my headphones can't take extreme but set this to either Moderate/Extreme
next is to set the equalizer.
For this i picked Rock, reason being, as you can see it that it boosts the bass leaves the mids in the middle and brings out the highs so even when your eyes turn to water from the bass you can still hear that hi-hat ting and fizz
if you really feel the above two just don't make your brain turn to mush enough then you can set the "Loudness compensation" when using this setting change the EQ to treble boost and then use the Bass Boost to add back in the low end.
Hope this is at least a bit helpful to you guys remember this is just my settings play about with the options till you get the sound thats right for you.
Change Log
v3 - added system/etc/audio_effects - Fixes FC on custom EQ
v2 - Added sys/libs/soundfx/
libaudiopreprocessing.so
libbundlewrapper.so
libcyanogen-dsp.so
libreverbwrapper.so
libvisualizer.so
v1 - DSPManger.apk
Disclaimer
I'm not going to take any responsibility if you bust your ear drums/headphones/ windows/other household items. Although making the cat jump from the bass cannon is totally my fault..
i didn't make this app it is part of the CyanogenMod
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/features/dsp-equalizer

If you want to improve it even more, take a CM9 ROM and rip the 6 files in "system/soundfx" and push them to your One X.
I think this messes up Beats a little bit, but it makes the EQ much more effective
I moved the "libcyanogen-dsp.so" too, no idea if it actually does anything on a none-CM ROM, but it can't hurt I guess
(There was also some other files I messed with, but I can't remember which they were. I think I may have ripped the "system/etc/audio_effects.conf" from CM9 too)

I'll have a zip i got from testing the ICS version it didn't work but it left system/lib/soundfx/libcyanogen-dsp.so, it works without or without this file as far as i can tell :S

I own a pair of bests pros and part of the reason I bought this phone is because of the bests audio. I know many people have there opinion on bests but all I listen to is old school hip hop and I love bass. I thought the bass was amazing on this phone but with this there's like twice as much!! Good shout man

Crashing on mine every time I try to edit the EQ

even works on stock roms.
and here's me thinking DSP Manager doesn't work on stock roms!

Don't wanna hijack this thread, but why can't I install downloaded apks like this one when low (27%) on battery? Unknown sources are enabled of course, but nothing happens when I hit install in the dialogue...

glad it works on stock i'm not running it so i had no way to test i just assumed it did lol i'm currently as Meltus suggested and pulling the sound files from the HOX cm 9 ROM and going to test as soon as this download finishes

Just flashed V2 in CWM and still force close on custom EQ, everything else works though
1.28.401.9 Bindroid.

Then I'm not sure I don't have any force closes on mine :/ try clearing the data and fixing permissions.
Edit: been looking around Xda looks like this version of dps is a bit hit and miss some people get fc some don't, the old version doesn't fc but also doesn't have any effect on music. I will keep an eye out for if it gets fixed.
Until then I'm afraid manually adjusting eq is a no no

Bass boost increases bass but dulls treble etc alot. I enable compression extreme, rock equilizer and studio for room enhancements, sounds crazy on my beats studio with the beats audio+dsp thanks for linking dsp2 i installed dsp1 that worked but this works 3-5times better quality to me

does this work on top of Beats or just disable all default EQ settings and just set the options in the DSP manager?

Musician looking to work on a new GNEX project!!

Hey XDA GNEX users!!
My name is MoOg, and I do music... I have been in music for over 25 years and I am thinking about making a project out of my works specificly for the Galaxy Nexus... I was thinking one day that it would be awesome to implement my works on either a boot image or possibly a ringtone project... I am only using this idea to start off with on the Galaxy Nexus, simply because it is the current phone that I am using... and the fact that I love the PURE Google experience with this phone... and I came up with this idea to make specific audio solely for this device... I have plenty of audio all over the web, and it would be a pleasure to seek out some fine developers to help out with this project... Let me know if you are interested... And to find all of my current works either check out my Soundcloud or Reverbnation... Just google "MoOg The Artist"
THANKS!!!

Well idk... It just seems like some of these sounds on the phones are boring... The only sound I really liked so far was the HTC ringtone that had the guitar loop that kept on dropping pitch after each set of notes... I think that this could change the face of Android development with newer sounds handmade and more adapted to what the kids like... lol... Maybe you and I can work on something now as well if you want... I do all kinds of sound editing and what not... I have lots of software to boot... I really think that there could be something made of this... The difference between my music and everything that is out there... I do everything from scratch and send it to a waveform editor... I can actually read soundwaves... It sounds crazy... But it's been something that I have been into since the early 90's/ late 80's...
I have a $1500 Roland Fantom synth, hours and hours on end for sounds that were recorded... as well as 14 albums (publicly released... not counting the unreleased tracks that have yet to be polished up and fed out to the public) to date... I haven't done anything with them besides releasing them onto Soundcloud, Facebook, Reverbnation, etc.
Let's see what we can accomplish by making the GNEX sound like a phone that people can relate to... Not just by it's features... But the feeling you get when you turn the thing on and it's sound pulls you further into the experience of the ROM...
and BTW... Please log on Facebook and LIKE my music page??? That's if you find my works enjoyable...
THANKS!!

Okay so ideas?
I'm merely the instrument... You all are the engineering process...
As soon as I get an idea as to what sounds are wanting to be created and for what purpose... I can get started on creation... and have them pop up in a dropbox file for all to experiment with...
Let's get this rolling... :victory:
FYI: Here is the link to my newly created dropbox folder "XDA Project Waveform", and I have already uploaded a sample soundclip for you guys to hear... Feel free to install it onto your device...

lol... yeah...
The funny thing is, I didn't even know what a Moog was until I got into the electronic genre...
I've ironically had that name ever since I was a teenager...
I love this idea, and I like the samples you've created.
Here's some thoughts that quickly jump to mind..
Ringtones:
Well, those are easy, and your samples are a great start.
Custom notification sounds:
We need some good sounding, short (~2 seconds) sounds, melodies, snippets that we can use for texts, e-mails and such. Things I think would sound cool..8 bit sounds mixed with newer electronic sounds, bit trip series comes to mind (runner)..a quick piano line, possibly with something in the background to add depth..
System sounds:
There's not a lot I can think of for this one, other than don't go overboard, heheh. Too many sounds, especially louder more abrupt ones, would be annoying.
Will be working on this soon... gotta work tomorrow.. then off for 2 days...

+1 on this. On the subject of notifications, I currently use Kzurb sonar because the sound seems to cut through whatever ambient noise(car, practicing my bass etc) I'm around. Maybe not something just like that but something that can really pierce through.

see this is sweet cause I play EVERYTHING by ear... I'm going to make something similar to that just for you bub... I'm off work after tomorrow so for sure... I will get right on this...

There are some files already uploaded to the link described on the post that I had before this one... I made a notification sound that might be similar to what you were looking for... It's called "Ion Burn"...
Let me know if it's up to par... Thanks!
MoOg, besides making short ringtones, notification sounds, etc you might also want to look into writing background music for game developers or scores for videos. Also, the nice thing about music is that it isn't tied to a specific type of device. MP3 and midi files will play on a wide variety of hardware. Just my two cents.

Ah, car stereo. Are you using bluetooth or 3.5mm cable?, check and make sure the cable isnt faulty if you are using one. Somtimes if you use a cheap 3.5mm cables they tend to crap out after awhile.

Yeah I thought that might be the issue. I replaced my belkin flat cable with another, still Meh quality (poor bass and volume). Any cables you prefer or recommend?
I don't think it's the rom, but different roms had different audio results on my S3 so I figured I'd ask.

Yeah I thought that might be the issue. I replaced my belkin flat cable with another, still Meh quality (poor bass and volume). Any cables you prefer or recommend?
I don't think it's the rom, but different roms had different audio results on my S3 so I figured I'd ask.

I usually use the usb input on my deck in my jeep to listen to music, If you have time try another music app from the store and see if you get the same results. The rom has two music effects: musicFX and dsp manager, try flipping back and forth between the two and see if sound quality inproves.

Can this be flashed over DarthStalker X2?
Galaxy S3, DarthStalker ROM & Kinetic Pulse Kernel.. Perfection.
Just flashed to my T999 running the T999L system and its working fine. So it should work on the actual T999L too.
Things definitely appear brighter. Very vivid colors. Bordering too vivid imo, but it does seem to make for a sharper image which is nice. Ill try it for a while to give it a fair chance though.
Also it may just be the placebo effect but the screen brightness seems higher too. At lowest level it seems brighter than before, not positive though. You know how it can be!
I do have a couple of questions if I may.
First, why the super extensive fix permissions script? It took twice as long to "fix permissions" than it does to flash a full rom. I would think you'd only need to set perms for files flashed and maybe some that are used by the mod. Assuming this, it should only take a second or two.
Second, I see in the zip there are several apps such as Facebook, twitter and picassa plugins, and clock, weather and contacts widgets, as well as others. I am just curious why those i just listed are included? In particular, contacts, Facebook and Twitter, but also some others. I just don't see what contacts has to do with Bravia. Or some of the others.
Personally, I don't use most of them and they are not even on my phone. (I ddont use or have Facebook, Twitter or Picasa, so now there are useless plugins that I've just flashed onto my phone) Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to imply anything, just to understand the reasoning. Wouldnt it have been sufficient to just have BE and that's it? (I can understand the Album and media player, and to a lesser extent the launcher, but the stock S3 ones seem just as good).
I don't want to ask too much, but maybe it'd be good to offer the engine separately, and everything else as an optional add-on?
For example, I would personally flash BE, the video player, and maybe the album and that would be all. Just a thought.
Sorry for hitting you with all that at once! All in all it is great work and I do appreciate you bringing it here and sharing it with us.
I think this is something people should try, as they will each have to decide if they like it better for themselves. I do think it could be helpful to some though if you'd consider a BE w/album and player only option.
And for those like me, more information as to what is actually included and why is a big plus! I just really want to know exactly what is being flashed, that goes for every thing I flash!
Thanks for your work man! It is a pretty cool mod! Good job btw!

I set permissions to help insure that everything will run correctly. It does take a while but im willing to let the flashing take longer than for some things not work upon first boot. All the add ons apps are included because of numerous request. Also the screen brightness do appear brighter at low levels and have heard of people complaining about it. The bravia is sum what universal You will see that video quality is much better in the xperia videos and how pictures are sharper in the xperia album and the TW stuff is not as sharp. The bravia also make youtube videos sharper. I will keep this thread updated to improve the overall preformance

What This Mod Does:
The Galaxy Nexus GSM has pitifully low volume. Previous fixes like the Volume+ app and Franco's app only increased the volume on music playback, or in the headphones, but did nothing for in-call volume or notifications.
This mod changes all that. It will increase ALL volume, across the entire phone: ringtone, music, notifications, loudspeaker sound, ear speaker sound, in-call volume, and headset.
Requirements:
-Rooted.
-Custom recovery like CWM or TWRP.
-KitKat Deodexed OR Odexed.
-Nandroid Backup, I implore people to have at least one recent one as this method is faster.
Installation:
*Revert previously installed patch as necessary.
1. Copy zip to Internal Storage
2. Boot to custom recovery
3. Install zip from sdcard
4. Reboot
5. Choose EIZO ReWire PRO E under Settings > Sound > Music Effects
Note: If you do not have the "Music Effects" submenu then EIZO should be enabled by default since it's the only DSP present.
FAQ:
What you should do:
Configure EIZO, Select it in Music Effects.
Refer to the Op for EIZO settings.
Practice tuning your own values. EVERY user has their own listening experience. What sounds good to one and not the other doesn't become the fault of the MOD.
Keep backups of your Alsa Mixer if you use call recording BEFORE flashing this MOD
Keep backups (The revert is safe) but I am not responsible for loops if you flash this on another device.
Flash the MOD after every ROM flash. Not necessarily kernel flash.
Search if your ROM has been mentioned. KEYWORDS are a must. Example is 'PA works' and the results will be displayed. If not feel free to ask and I shall assist you.
What you shouldn't do:
Test the loudness via Settings. There is an implemented system limiter so you can't tell the difference. Call yourself or sms yourself so you can know the difference.
Complain of distortion without testing your own values. I've set a recommend layout in the OP hoping it's to give you an idea.
Error 7, Error 7 is a halt procedure. Please debug the error and see what's written before saying Error 7 only.
Alternate flashing. (I know some of you prefer to flash the Gnexus mod on the N7 but doing so breaks the media codes, if you have the patience to swap the media codes in etc folder of the N7 then it's fine)
Don't use Noozy lockscreen controls, they're unreliable till a new app is remade.
Don't use compression in EIZO. Causes massive volume fluctuations as it was set to be an AVLS.
Please refrain from asking about PowerAMP as it denies the use of third party DSP's which make PlayerPro a better alternative.

Yes, time to replace the 2 yo Kindle Fire gen 1. I'm using my tablet more and more, so a nicer one time has come.
Not really dodging the N5, I just spend a lot of time in the woods and the weather, Got a chance at a S4 Active International for cheap, so went with it. After a dev I know drowned his GNex trying to scooter surf a puddle......
My GNex sounds good, works well, has a beautiful screen. I'll see what comes along. Kinda like the way Google/Motorola is moving right now, I'm thinking those may become the Nexus of the future.

[BOOTANIM][16 MAY 2016][UPDATE]Catching Fire[SENSE][FLASHABLE & NON]-NEW BLUE VERSION

[BOOTANIM][16 MAY 2016][UPDATE]Catching Fire[SENSE][FLASHABLE & NON]-NEW BLUE VERSION
I have created a boot animation from the artwork in the movie Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Below are some pics used in the animation. I have also included sound. The zip is flashable from TWRP or CWM and will place the boot animation and sound files in the system/customize/resource directory (Should be okay for SENSE 4.0, 5.0, 5.5 and 6).
*Tested with Sense 5.5 and Sense 6.0
UPDATE: I have rebuilt the animation from the highest quality source with the highest quality settings for the jpegs in the bootanimation. This VERY HIGH QUALITY version is available from devhost at the link listed below.
2ND UPDATE: I have made a silver blue version which is available for download below.
Boot Animation-Catching Fire BLUE VERSION(with audio)-flashable-VERY HIGH QUALITY.zip
Boot Animation-Catching Fire BLUE VERSION(without audio)-flashable-VERY HIGH QUALITY.zip
Boot Animation-Catching Fire(with audio)-flashable-VERY HIGH QUALITY.zip

I will have some time on Friday to update the boot animation using a higher quality video source and will also begin work on a blue version. Depending on how perfect I need the animation to be, I might complete it this weekend as well.
Thank you for your feedback.
Hiya. Great animation, love it. I've gotten it to work a couple times, but it tends to force me to reflash my rom. I'm running InsertCoin, with Elementalx. Sometimes the animation looks like a graphics card on the fritz, then hangs. Other times, I lost the ability to turn off my screen, which is terrible for battery life. Please fix, I want this animation!
EDIT: I managed to get the GPU fritzing issue to stop, so just a beautiful animation. I had to slow down my CPU/GPU OCs. The screen won't turn off once Android is booted though. Power button, sweep to sleep, timeout have no effect. Is the animation flashing overwriting part of the kernel? Also, I tried to install this manually in the System folder (hTC_bootup.zip thing). This resulted in only a black screen during the animation phase of boot.

No. The flashable zip is only installing two files (hTC_bootup_one.zip and HTC_Sense5_Boot.mp3) into the system/customize/resource directory.

I have added a link to the hTC_bootup_one.zip file to the OP. This is the file you would need to manually install to the system/customize/resource directory. If you want to install the audio manually as well you will find it in the flashable zip file in the directory system/customize/resource (HTC_Sense5_Boot.mp3).
I'll give that a try. Might be that my overclock was screwing it up. Slowing it down didn't help with the screen, but maybe manually installing it will help. Since the audio is labeled Sense 5, does that mean a no go on Sense 6? Maybe I just need to rename it. I'll look. Thank you! You probably didn't know this, but I'm kinda new here.
UPDATE : OK, the file manually installed works perfectly. Thank you again! I'll flash the file without audio this weekend to see how that works out. Any reason the audio file would cause screen off to stop working?

I'll give that a try. Might be that my overclock was screwing it up. Slowing it down didn't help with the screen, but maybe manually installing it will help. Since the audio is labeled Sense 5, does that mean a no go on Sense 6? Maybe I just need to rename it. I'll look. Thank you! You probably didn't know this, but I'm kinda new here.
UPDATE : OK, the file manually installed works perfectly. Thank you again! I'll flash the file without audio this weekend to see how that works out. Any reason the audio file would cause screen off to stop working?

Glad to hear it works for you! I am running sense 6 and have audio during the boot animation with the file HTC_Sense5_Boot.mp3. There is no reason I know of that would have the presence of the audio file cause screen off to stop working. Are you getting audio during your boot animation(assuming you flashed with audio or copied the audio file manually to system/customize/resource)?
Alright, I unzipped the bootable (fresh download) and copied it to the resource folder, and address the "other" permission. The animation and sound plays beautifully, but the screen won't turnoff by any method. Deleted the audio file, rebooted, and animation plays perfectly and screen turnoff functionality is restored. The Digital Rain thread is having some issues with sound too, but probably not the same. I'm keeping the animation, but can't use the audio. Let me know if I can test anything else for you!

I think this sample is a vast improvement over the first. I went slightly lighter than the vivid blue to maintain the right look of the pennant (which was lost in the first sample).
