Idea: make locked bootloader to root
1 run viruscan (caranten options) apk...
2 copy sdcard/ caranten to su binary file
3 restore to caranten su binaryfile to system/xbin
4 install supersu apk.
What now? I don't really get it, but are you claiming these instructions can root an s-off phone without any htcdev.com modifications?

He is claiming you can root your phone this way, without unlocking the bootloader. But this ain't gonna work as system is read only when locked?

I did a few searches in the EVO forum but found nothing specific to my question. Hope this hasnt already been answered.
I have a pretty simple question. If I run the HTC bootloader unlock tool and unlock my phone can I uninstall the sprint apps like nova, sprint football, sprint nascar etc? or is it more involved then that?
After you unlock your phone an install superuser there's many ways to uninstall those apps titanium backup is a great app to use for that

I was trying to not root my phone. MY hope was that I could just unlock the boot loader and that alone would grant me access to delete those apps.

No, you need full root access to remove those, not just an unlocked bootloader.
S-off = nand unlock to flash roms you need to be s-off. To have root is to have superuser and busybox. With revolutionary you get both

if u unlock boot loader you can flash anything you want. So if you take a stock from and delete the apps from it you do not want and then flash it, then u don't need root at all.

thank you, this is what I wanted to know
you can root, then uninstall your apps, then use a pc3600img to flash back to the stock recovery and the s-on tool found here on xda to re lock your hboot then you may also uninstall superuser and no longer have a rooted phone
Hi guys, I'm new to this phone, and I'm trying to root it.

I replied to your question in modaco but I mentioned again here, do you do the bootloader unlock procedure first before you run the superboot ?
I'll make a simple tutorial later on how to unlock and root the htc one v.
^
hii, sorry i havent checked modaco yet. i just got the phone like 2 days, so i havent done to the bootloader. it's still s-off tho. so what am i supposed to do before flashing the boot.img ?
thanks

EDIT: I made a simple tutorial on how to root your htc one v HERE
in htcdev, i have t pick "all supported devices" ?
because there's no htc one v option

If the phone is S-OFF then you don't need to unlock the bootloader. Just root it.

Right... if it is already s-off, just download the SuperSU from Play store and you are done.
@handisetyadi - is your bootloader written there s-off ? Please recheck.

S-OFF doesn't mean that the phone is rooted. He needs to do this first:
ckpv5 said:
Rooting with Superboot
1. Download r1-primo-superboot.zip to your computer and extract in any directory.
2. Download the modded boot.superboot.img
3. Replace the boot.superboot.img in the folder that you extracted just now (r1-primo-superboot).
4. Power off your phone by holding the power button down for 10 seconds
5. Power your phone on by holding power and volume down (going to Fastboot mode)
6. Highlight Fastboot With Volume+or- then press Power
7. Connect your phone to PC
8. Double click ‘install-superboot-windows.bat’
Once it complete, the phone will reboot on its own. In app drawer you will see a SuperSU icon, click on it and update SU binary then you are done with rooting your Htc One V.
You can try any app with root access to confirm it is working.

He needs to do that only to have root and full ADB root access, if he already s-off and needs only root, just download the SuperSU from Play Store but no ADB access.
But I guess his One V is S-On, that is why he failed to flash the boot.img the first time he tried.
I just s off it and root it. But it seems it doesnt have root access yet. But i already have SU app.
Everytime i go to root uninstaller app, it asks me for adb access which i dont know how.
And also, when o try to update SU binary, it always fails. Everything is ok except the busybox checking and Gaining root access

Hi,
I've been trying to root my HOX using oneclick with no success, I keep getting a "permission denied" message. I've tried to find an answer on XDA and via google but couldn't find one.
All I want to do is root my device in order to restore apps data from my old Desire using Titanium Backup, I don't want to unlock the bootloader or flash a new recovery (I want to still be able to get OTA updates as JB is about to be release later this month).
Is there a way to do so ?
I also tried the method from XDA (HTC_QuickRoot_1.1.13_Release) but I get a message stating that my device is patched (my software version is 2.18.751.7 if thats help).
Thanks a lot guys !

Those One Click Tools are going through HTCDev then unlock bootloader too, at least for HOX since we have no other method to gain permenant root.
You can still receving OTA from HTC if you stayed on stock ROM. However, you will need stock recovery and stock-like ROM(not altering too much likes uninstalling certains system app.. blah~ blah~ blah~) to properly flash the OTA.
I know that there is a way to root the HOX without unlocking the bootloader or flashing a different recovery, the problem I have is that my device seems to have some kind of a patch thats preventing the root exploit to work.
Are you saying I can't root my device unless I'll use HTCDev? Because I don't think its true...
I don't want to mess with custom ROMs right now as my phone is still under warranty and I would hate it to be void, I know I can go back (ie unroot and flash stock recovery) I just don't want to mess with it right now.
I use to do it with my good old Desire (flashed it like a 1000 times) and right now I want to use the stock ROM.
Does anyone has an idea of how I can get simple root permission?
You cannot root with a locked bootloader on the HOX. Simply not possible. But feel free to waste your time trying.
Your in the wrong forum, this is for the tegra3 one x. We can't root without unlocking via htcdev.

Well I won't be waisting my time, If you're saying its not possible then I guess its not.
Do I have to use the HTCDev first to unlock it? I'm sure HTC keeps a list of devices that has been unlocked using their website. Then if one of them devices will be sent back for repairs they will say the warranty has been void....
Is it possible to unlock the bootloader and root the phone without using HTCDev, then lock it again and keep the root permissions?

Mine is the Tegra3 One X...I read that there is a oneclick tool to root any HTC and I tried it on mine, I get a message that the phone has been patched so the root process failed. Why does it matter if the its the Tegra3 CPU or Snapdragon S4 ? I mean root wise?
Thanks guys !

Hi. So, I have a SONY XPERIA S with bootloader locked. I recieved a mail from SONY with the unlock bootloader key. The next step should be to download the SDK. But since the SDK is almost 500 MB in size and I have a slow connection, and a limited data plan I cannot download the SDK. My question is : Is there another easy way to to this? To unlock my bootloader?

Would you mind sharing more feedback of what you have already tried for rooting?? and which steps are you failing at? so we can help you out :cyclops:
I've tried a zip package from doomlord
i'm using XAS, base on .200 ROM, all i do to root was this.
1. UL BL
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2309117
3. place this SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42005929&postcount=3 onto internal storage
4. flash SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip in recovery
that's what i did on both XAS
I'll try it right now
Done. SOLVED
Now it works just fine.

Hey everybody, got my HTC one 2 weeks ago and just received the 4.4.2 kit kat update from verizon. I want to root now and i realize it was really stupid to update to it and should of stayed on jellybean. Anyways I'm a complete Noob at rooting and have never done it before but i honestly hate htc sense, it looks really ugly in my opinion. I realize the risks about rooting and voiding your warranty and bricking your phone but i never had warranty on my phone so I'm only worried about the bricking part, can someone please inform me on how to root a HTC One 4.4.2 on verizon? or link me to a site when there is a one click rooting method available( if there is none currently). sorry for knowing nothing but i could really use someones help!! thanks!

You'll use the temp root method. It doesn't just give you temporary root though...it's just to the exploit can work. You'll be s-off and ready to roll.

haha ok sorry never mind i must of entered one wrong but they are working now, what should i do once i gain s-off?
Also what makes the temp root method different from the other methods? do you lose root once you reboot or what? (sorry I'm new to all this) and i know that s-off does not mean your rooted but have all the restrictions gone, how can i achieve root from this or do i just execute "temp root" in terminal?
UPDATE: when i attempt to execute the first command"adb reboot" it just prompts me with "error:device offline" what does this mean??
Temp root just allows the s-off exploit to work. Once s-off you flash a recovery and then superuser to get full root.
Did you try rebooting the phone and the pc?
Temp root won't work because your boot loader can not be unlocked with the temp root method. It was patched in 4.4.2

turns out i forgot to uncheck fast boot, did everything again and after "adb reboot" now it says "device offline"
On your pc go to C:\users\your_user_name\ and look for and rename a folder named .android (to something like .android.bak.) Then reboot your pc and phone and try again.
ugh this is so annoying, i finally got "adb reboot" to work and it successfully rebooted but when i tried executing the second command i got this message "./adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
cannot stat 'firewater': No such file or directory"
Is the firewater file in the same folder as adb.exe, and is the cmd prompt at the same directory? Its saying it cant find the firewater file on your pc.
