Sharing a recommendation. This free app allows you to control your android phone over wifi. You launch the app (with wifi) on. The app tells you the ip address to key into your browser on your desktop/laptop (within the same wifi network).
You can send/receive SMS over there. Check contacts, etc etc etc.
Useful tool. I leave it connected when working so I can just handle my SMS really quickly.
Elegant design and well built. Tested on the One X.

I have heard on some smart phones you could get a bluetooth mouse to pair and function with the phone. Does anyone know if this is possible with the dash?
Not that I heard of. What phone did you hear does this?

Yeah I couldn't find the thread I had read earlier. This was the closest I could find. I read somewhere that someone did get a bluetooth mouse to work with Excalibur. However now I can't find the article. He said the only problem he had was finding a mouse pointer program.
I was experimenting with something similar to his earlier today, although I desired the reverse method of control. I noticed that XP MCE device manager had a HID that was called Bluetooth Remote Control.
After a little search, I discovered a free application called Bluetooth Remote Control for Windows Mobile.
http://www.jaylee.org/remotecontrol/
I installed the application and was quite surprised that I could control my XP MCE laptop's Media Center as well as Windows Media Player with my HTC S620 (modded Dash). The application even utilizes the HTC display to display song information and also there is no line of sight requirement.
What I really wanted was to be able to control the PC's mouse and keyboard with the Smartphone. Not view the PC but just use the phone like a mouse and keyboard. The application has this ability (Screen Control) for PPC's but not completely for Smartphones. I was able to scroll up, down on a web page or application but that was all.
I installed FakeCursor and configured SmartToolKit to launch it from an extended keypress. Now I was able to move the mouse pointer on the laptop, a bit, and enter data via the HTC keypad. However, Fakecursor stopped sending data after it reached the edge of the Dash screen so I could not completely navigate the laptop.
If anyone is looking for a free remote control for audio/video application the application mentioned above would be a good start.
Any tips about the best way to use a Smartphone Standard without touch to control a PC would be welcomed.

I'm already testing. Its gorgeous! It seems to be a litte bit slow but its beta. I think if they increase the speed a little this is the ultimate icq solution for ppc!!!!
I cant login, always showing "Wrong password or ICQ account." and the credentials are 100% correct :/
But it looks nice, slow but nice.
i have no problems with the login
This seems like it's going to be a great program, but it's just way too slow right now.
I can login fine, and it seems to do everything it's supposed to.
one nasty bug i have is when i minimize the app i get no sound notification maybe theres only a soundfile missing...i dont know. did u have this bug?
it's almost the same gui with AIM mobile.
i maybe found a solution to the login problem
a user from pocketpc.ch told me that he chance the sip to full qwerty and now he can login to his account. strange but true
error 12002 - The operation timed out
Why? On my pc icq working without problem.

Working very fast on any smartphones and PDA
I'd like to be able to wirelessly connect my 4G Touch to my PC. The machine I want to connect to is running win 7 64. Apparently, there is no 64 bit BlueTooth driver for the Epic 4G Touch, as I get a 'driver not found' error when trying to connect via BlueTooth. I have full USB connection functionality.
I have a wireless AP on my network and generally use it for my internet connection. The phone connects via Kies, but there is no ability to freely roam shares on the fly. You can add folders, but this becomes tedious.
I'm thinking that there must be a way to wirelessly connect to PC for simple two-way file transfers.
The only other method that occurs to me is VPN, but is this really practical for this instance? It is in the wireless menu. I'd have to get up to speed on VPN set up and security (I've been intending to do that anyway...), but I'm OK with that.
So, given that BlueTooth doesn't seem to be an option, what is the most efficient method of wireless phone to PC connection (and vice-versa)?
Thanks!
I use SwiFTP and it works great. It's free in the Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.swiftp&hl=en
I use Software Data Cable it is free and does a great job I use it all the time it is so simple to use, http://www.appbrain.com/app/software-data-cable/com.lyy.softdatacable

Thanks to both of you for helpful responses...I don't know why I didn't think of ftp, but it sure did solve my problem! And I was able to use an an old favorite for a client...Filezilla.
I looked at swift. People seem to love it, but since it's no longer supported, I've installed Software Data Cable. Seems great. A nandroid backup (around 750mb) took about 4.5 mins. (over wi-fi, wrt54GL router (using wired only) with a WAP54G AP ) Connection was easy. Looks great!
I'd love to be able to use ftp to access online storage, but they all seem to be auto-syncing these days (with limited user control, from what I've read). Any suggestions for a free online storage server that allows user controlled FTP access?
AndFTP seems to provide an ftp server and client.
Thanks again!

Today its working for me, too. I assume it was a server overload.
This is latest version of BBM (ver 1.0.0.72). Can you change your link @albysajan. Tested. Working 100%. I dont want to make a new thread.

Latest BBM ver 1.0.2.83 is fully compatible with Android 4.4 on Nexus 7 (2012)
I have found previous versions force-closing on me all the time.
Unfortunately I cannot provide the link, you need to sideload it.

Why does anyone still use BBM when there's so many to choose from out there?
Surly just nostalgic?
Hi all, I've recently installed Pushbullet so that I can receive texts to my PC here at work. I love the functionality, but have been experiencing lagging and forced rebooting. Are there any similar apps that I should try? Thanks in advance.
hangouts is one you can send texts from PC
AirDroid
MightyText
Let us not forget our preinstalled bloatware, Verizon Messages!
I prefer Verizon Messaging as my go-to for getting texts on phone/tablet/PC (only needs a web browser on the PC). But if you want something more versatile, Airdroid 3 is great. Receive/send texts on PC (with companion PC app), file transfers over wifi to/from PC, other stuff I dont need or use. VZW message+ is the simplest, while Airdroid is the most versatile (IMO). Hope that helps.
You can also use Samsung's SideSync app. Although, depending on how you connect it, it may be laggy.

Do you get bubble notifications when using Verizon Message+ like you do with the stock messaging app? You know, down on the dock?

The little counter that shows unread messages? Yes. You also get the option of a popup (which I use). Its also customizable in terms of colors, fonts, wallpaper.
