Is it just me or does the Telus S2X not have the OTA update section in about?
I recently flashed back to stock, is it because of that, or just in general Telus Rom's dont have OTA updates? I was looking at my uncles Rogers Note and he had the Software section, and I may be wrong but I could swear my S2X had it too before rooting...
Thanks!
I can't remember if it had it for sure, but knowing Telus, it won't be ota. That's more money then they are willing to spend.
It'll probably be a dl, flash through Odin thing

I don't think it TELUS pushing the update to your phone. I think it's Samsung after they have cleared it with TELUS.
You should get a message at some point saying something along the lines of "there is a firmware update for your phone, but if you download it without a data plan, you are going to get a 4-digit phone bill." Regardless, OTA or no OTA, you probably want to download it through Odin, or at least Wi-Fi. This is firmware you are downloading, if it doesn't download correctly, your phone might upgrade to the Doorstop edition instead.
Most likely it will be rolled out via Kies.

What update? for 4.0.3 ?
I don't think there is even a date for that.
Definitely no defined date yet but soon to be (April 30 - ?? [http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-series-ics-updates-arriving-today-say-samsung-canada]).
If Kies doesn't prompt for an update, you can follow here:
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/BC/Software-Updates/android-updates-main.shtml
Expected early June update from Telus.

So I recently found out I'm unable to install OTA Android updates to my phone if it's rooted.
So what can I do once ICS is released for the GS2? Will there be a download online that I can just flash with ODIN? Or are people going to be forced to unroot if they want the official ICS stock?
Most likely samfirmware aka sammobile will release an odin .tar, so you'll be good to go with odin.

That's not true. You will be unable to install OTA patch-style updates if you have modified one of the files being patched. If you rooted with Auto Root and that's all you did, you will be able to install OTA patch-style updates even without unrooting (though the update will disable root)

I'm sure there will be an ODIN update within a few days or maybe even the same day. You can also flash EK02 and let the OTA update upgrade you (or if you've just rooted with Auto Root, just let the OTA update run), though you are probably better off waiting for an update from XDA, because the updates from here will attempt to keep your rooting and upgrade options as open as possible.
I'll also probably have an OTA compliance check for the next official update so you can tell immediately which files are not in compliance with what the update expects. I have one for EG30 to EK02 as part of the Auto Root package, so it would be similar in functionality.
First rule: Never take an OTA update if you care about rooting.
Any file made available from sprint or samsung will have a rooted/safe version posted in the dev section within a few hours of release.
I know samsung is pretty nice to us rooters but you never know when that might change.

Is there a way to block OTAs? I'm running Calkulin's 2.8 if that matters.

There is a thread on blocking them in the wiki, provided here for your ease.

If you are worried about the OTA messing something up, it'll download and ask to install, but if you've made any changes to your ROM, including installing CWM, then it will fail the integrity check and won't install, so nothing will change.
I don't understand the OP's dilemma. Just wait a couple of hours after the OTA update and get a rooted version of the update... no problem!
It won't be out for a few more months anyways. It isn't even being tested yet. I doubt an initial build is even at Samsung. They are working on the the Galaxy S2 right now(the GSM overseas version). And, I am sure Sprint will sell some other phone with ICS stock before they update ours.
I'm new to android. I can't figure out why my phone will not OTA update. I'm on 4.1.2 I thought that I had the Sep. 4.1.2 update, but I don't and found that out when I was trying to update to the 4.3 that I've been waiting for. I'm still on version (I317UCAMC3) not (H3) which it says you need for the 4.3 update.
Every time I try to OTA update I get Software Update Interrupted, I think I've also gotten "your software is up to date"? I've also tried the Kies firmware and it says that my version is not supported to update via kies? I got the phone off eBay supposedly new and unlocked, but it's Att branded. Would being unlocked stop an update?

DO NOT OTA
you want to be on 4.3, just use the one click method, this way you dont have the locked bootloader

OTA = BAD. Wait and get one that is knox free as well.
It's not the unlocked part blocking the update. If the updated senses that the current version is not 100% stock, then it won't update. If the recovery is not 100% stock (I'm not 100% about this though), it won't update.
But you will end up in the long run being better off flashing either 4.4 (which ever cooked ROM you choose,) or waiting for the fabulous dev's here in XDA land to cook up the 4.3 version knox free, and rooted out of the box.
As far as I know the phone is stock so I still don't understand why the update won't go through. I downloaded a root checker to see if my phone was rooted and it says that it is not. since I can't figure out why the phone won't update I guess I should just root and install a rom.
Usually a custom recovery stops an official update.

I was told unless you have ***mh3, it will not update to 4.3 via OTA.
I have same issue, I have UCAMA3 and it won't do.
It seems it doesn't even have to be stock for someone I work with had **MH3 rooted and all and it updated to 4.3 OTA.
Maybe someone will be able to put out rooted stock one in the future.
my phone wont update either
I am having a similiar issue with my phone, it is rooted and will not update. I have Android version 4.1.2 Baseband version I317UCAMH3 Build JZO54k.. and I have twrp recovery. Does anyone know what I can do to receive the update? Do I have to unroot in order to receive the update? and if so can someone direct me on how to do that? Or is it better to just flash a custom rom and if so would someone be able to direct me to where I can find the instructions to do that. Thank you so much! I have flashed roms in the past but its been a while...

I'm in Cincinnati Ohio, and I have a *completely stock and non-rooted* Note 2. I have been trying to get this OTA update since it came out, but no dice so far.
It basically just says that no update is available - the same message everyone else reported. Am I just in an area where it has not been rolled out for *anybody*? Or is there something going on?
I know on my Nexus 7 I had to clear the data on a google service to get it to notice when the Kit Kat update showed up - anything like that for the Note 2?
Thanks.
P.S.
I have searched both XDA and with google, and completely read through the main large thread in this forum relating to the update.
I don't want to load the update in any other way that will wipe my phone. I understand that many of you don't feel like waiting for an OTA, and download these updates and load them manually. I do not want to do that. So, this post is only seeking information as to how I can get the OTA update through the update mechanism in the phone.

No, I don't even have it installed. If I decide to install KIES, does it do the update without wiping the phone - just like the OTA?
I just don't like installing vendor crapware on my computers unless it is absolutely necessary. Which is why I don't own electronics with a "i" prefix.
Ok, I installed KIES and attached is an error message it gives relating to a firmware update

Crap, nevermind. I got this phone via trade and it turns out that the guy I got it from had rooted it at some time in the past... So no OTA for me. I'll accomplish it the way all the other folks have.
Thanks
My wifes phone I747 has been having a Camera fail for many months now and she misses a lot without camera. She is running the old 4.1.1 still and i think its possible a Version upgrade may fix the issue. Now I ask can anyone please provide me with a full detail way to upgrade now that i Rooted it ??
I have looked for a week now on different ways but either i get lost or many files don't work anymore since its a old phone now.
You cannot get OTA updates if the phone is rooted.
If you are on the 4.1.1 bootloader and modem, I suggest flashing back to stock 4.1.1 using Odin and firmware from sammobile.com. Once you are on stock, run OTA updates until you have the most recent ROM on your phone. This method is rather slow but it is the safest way to update to the latest KK ROM.

Used to be but now only GSM At&t purchased half of Cricket wireless so now it runs the network.
I converted my unlocked US Note 10+ to T-Mobile. I am not receiving any OTA updates. My phone says that I am on the current software with December 1st Security patch.(the package I flashed in Odin) SL8 There is a January update available SLB but my phone doesn't see it. I know I can just manually flash it but it's kind of inconvenient. Anyone else able to pull updates after converting? In the T-Mobile app my device shows as "Unknown device" so I'm not sure if I should go back to the unlocked US firmware or try to figure if I goofed along the way. Thanks for any help.

Did you use the non home csc when (and do the factory data reset after successfully) flashing the phone with T-Mobile firmware?
If you didn't then that can cause the issue your having with OTA.
Yeah I did that. I'll back up my data and flash the old update, factory reset, and then see if it'll pull the latest update. Thanks. I've read where a couple of people are having issues with ota updating
I brought my Sprint Note 9 to TM. I didn't flash anything, but couldn't get OTA updates. I know I could have flashed TM, but I was lazy. I called my TM experts. They called Samsung. Samsung looked up to see where the nearest Samsung tech was. It was at a Best Buy. She was in the Geek Squad area. She evidently flashed the TM firmware. After that I was able to get the TM OTAs. There was no charge for this. I happily upgraded to the 10+ 5G when TM got it. I love it! It also came with Android 10 on it.

So I flashed the old firmware, used the non csc file, hard reset and I still can't pull an ota. Not sure what's wrong.

Your not doing something right or have skipped/missed a step..
When flashing the t-mobile firmware do so in it's entirety. Be sure to use the userdata as well.
The flashing process is pretty easy and rather straight forward, but as a refresher follow the instructions at the bottom of this post

That may be the issue. The tutorial I used said not to flash the userdata. So when I do this again, I should flash the Tmobile userdata along with it.
