Making An Interface Change in ICS - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know if its possible to swap the location of the navigation buttons and the popup menu? Like making the navigation buttons on the right and the popup menu on the left? I dont see anything about this anywhere, but im curious if its possible.
Its in the Framework somewhere. Perhaps I might try to bug hashcode? lol

The navigation buttons aren't part of Trebuchet. Changing their configuration is most likely out of the scope of your abilities, unless you're good at coding.

Well its actually part of the framework. Theres not really "coding" to be done. It would be more of finding things and swapping their values more than likely. But yeah ive done a few things, Ive ported a sense rom to the Nexus s 4G and helped fix a few things in cm7 for the Epic 4G touch, so im not totally retarded i just wanted to ask and see if anyone had ventured into this yet.

Forgive my assumptions but your original thread title made it seem like a "dumbed down" answer was necessary.
You still have to have somewhat of an understanding of Java but if you are up to it so be it. There are a few Kindle Fire roms on github where you can get full uncompiled frameworks files for editing/research/whatever. Or if you want to go through the process of decompiling/editing/recompiling, you could do that as well. But I'm sure you know that already.
[Edit:] As for an answer to your question, I haven't seen anyone here messing with the placement of the status/nav bar items, only editing the graphics.

5 lock mod possible?

I was viewing the Fascinate Forums and they have a lockscreen mod which allows for them to switch what they have on the device if I'm correct. Couldn't we emulate that on our phones? We couldn't get the Puzzle lock to work but we could still get AOSP, Rotary, (our)Touchwiz, and another to work though right? I am no themer so I'm nowhere near the most qualified but I'm very curious about this and thought it should be more directly aimed towards themers than randomly in Q&A. I just think incorporating this into themes would allow themers more workspace and take away the need to produce two separate versions. Thanks for any input it's appreciated.

honestly, i think we "could" get the puzzle lock working. i just dont know if we have the right combo of someone who can and someone who wants to do it. untermensch has all kinds of mods for the vibrant, including porting our lockscreen to it and a 5 and 6 mod etc... i think it is quite involved as i noticed quite a bit of modded files in his flashable zips to make those happen. my guess is we dont have anyone who can do it who wants it bad enough.

Ya, cause we have some of the files necessary for the puzzle lockscreen in our phones already.

[REQ] Port of WhiteMochi to Froyo/ACS.

My first post...been lurking around for a while.
I feel like this would probably be pretty simple for someone who knew more about what to do.
I tried flashing the zip, then tried using reframe.sh (through android terminal emulator) to reboot into just the framework, then tried editing the framework-res.apk by adding files and moving files to match other Froyo framework-res.apk files...but all of those things failed.
I didn't really anticipate my actions would have the desired effect, but I was trying.
I don't know what would have to be done. If it's simple and someone would be willing to update this for Froyo, I'd appreciate it. I think some others would as well.
In addition, if anyone could point me in the direction of some learning material for this kind of stuff, not just how to theme but also maybe some development guides for beginners, I would appreciate that as well.
Then I could just do this type of thing myself in the future.
Here's the link to an xda thread with WhiteMochi v0.003: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843204
Thanks in advance.
Think alot of themers on the Epic prolly got their start here using Dream's guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821638
Good luck man!
I'll do it.
Do you want the clear notication bar or the solid one?
I would like the solid one, if you could. Thanks a ton.
And thanks to both of you. Definitely gonna check out that guide.

Haha I didn't. But a good guide never hurts.
Do you want the lockmod installed along side?
What exactly do you mean by the lockmod?
My current rom uses the AOSP lockscreen by default so it shouldn't be an issue, right?

I meant maddoggins lockmod for EC05. It includes 6 different locks.
Oh, no. I tried to install it but was having issues getting it to work.
The one straight from the lockmod thread didn't work (FC when trying to view Lockscreen Settings), I found a working version in the framework included with the Nebula rom/theme but didn't like the status bar.
I was under the impression the WhiteMochi just used the AOSP, or were you asking for another reason?

Haha I can make you a version of nebula with a different colored notification bar if you'd like.
I'm sure it uses the AOSP lock. I was just asking if you wanted me to implement the 6 lock.
If you could get the 6lock in with the Mochi that'd be sweet, but it's not necessary for me.
Would be a huge plus though, hahah.
Still looking for anyone willing to possibly port this over to Froyo/SRF.
I'm mainly just looking for a white status bar without a gaudy notification pulldown and attractive icons.
I tried FrostPort v1.2 but personally disliked the status bar icons (all of them).
I noticed that the Galaxy Prevail (the new prepaid Boost Android phone) has a nice white framework, so even a port of that would be killer.
I read up on theming and I have a basic understanding of what to do, it doesn't seem overly difficult. Only issue with me is that I work 5-6 days a week long hours so I don't always have time to devote to studying up/getting in practice...especially as of late.
I have two days off coming up which I'll most likely wind up devoting the bulk of to learning how to theme (devoted my last two days off to my phone as well...don't know how to feel about that).
In the meantime, however...once again...if anyone is up to the task, have at it. I would appreciate it, and I know others would too.
I'd like to see this theme... Where can I see screen shots of the original theme? I have no knowledge of Android Theming or anything. But if there's a pretty good guide, and by pretty good I mean something that will SHOW me how to do it, then I could give it a try. But I'm more visual so a walk through that's text only won't help.
This seems like its AOSP straight to the bone seriously just use the AOSP ROM, whats honestly different?
When trying to flash it via Clockwork it says "Amend script was disabled in this version" or some such thing, and then says "Installation Aborted".
Using reframe.sh causes the phone to not boot (sticks on boot anim).

[Q] Duplicate of "home buttons" showing on EVO mod

Hey guys, i searched the forum for the best part of an hour and didnt really find anything related. It is truly massive.
I have a rooted evo 4g running a cm7/ics hybrid by jaredthegreat running. Its smooth and stable, and I dig it, but I am having one problem I haven't figured out how to sort.
The home buttons, the ones that run along the bottom of the 4g, are showing up 'duplicated' on the bottom of the touchscreen. Both sets of buttons are working as they are supposed to. Is there a configuration setting deep in the bowels of CM7 that I can manually turn off the on-screen home buttons?
I've attached a screenshot to avoid any language confusion. The buttons are below the launcher icons at the bottom of the screen.
Lol those are supposed to be there they are part of the ics launcher, they replace the hardware capacitives on devices without them like the galaxy nexus if you don't want them change launchers

not help, not true, not answering the question
thatwas extremely helpful, thanks. interestingly, in this forum there are dozens of screens of egos with ice mods without those buttons. And I never asked why the buttons are there, but how to remove them in the launcher configuration.

Look back in the thread; I never ran that version, though I believe there is a zip you can flash to remove them.
oops, repost of earlier message
oops sorry
For the repost
Thanks
teh roxxorz,
I appreciate your help. as I look back in the thread, I think I started it just a few messages back. I looked around and couldn't find another thread about similiar issues, but these forums are massive. I will do some more poking around, but it seems like it could be much simpler than this.
I would assume the developer would have some manner of preference file that could be edited to import preference information into the compiled code.
Moreover, I would assume the code for the launcher would check for the presence of the buttons to see if they are built in before initializing them on-screen.
Maybe I am just hopeful. In any case, If you could point me towards the zip you referenced, that would be great.

[Q] Nav Buttons

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has ever created a mod that would make the NAV Buttons change color constantly? Like a slowly shifting blend of colors. Kinda like when LED stripes shift colors. I have tried searching but either no one has or i suck at searching. Thanks in advance.

I haven't seen a similar mod and I am not sure if it is easy to be done because probably it requires constant changes to SystemUI and Framework while the device is running!
Still maybe a dev finds it possible and makes it
Of course it won't require constant changes the the code.. Please don't answer if you know nothing about programming.
It could can be done, and it won't require any huge changes, but it will require someone capable of and willing to do it.

I typed "probably" which means I am not sure about that but just my thought. I did not even talk about the code! I meant changes in the images which are of different colors. Still that was my "thought" and nothing more.
Anyway sorry if I have done something wrong. It is good that it won't require that constant changes and hopefully someone will be interested in this idea and do it
Hi
Is there any mod for normal color change like constant ?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
At least its possible. Maybe someone will try it. If you are running AOKP you can change nav button color to any color you like. I am sure someone has made a mod for it. Thx for the responses.

I suggest that you make a "[REQUEST]" thread in the "Themes and Apps" section so the devs up there will read about your idea and hopefully one of them will be interested and have the time to do it
You deserve a Thanks for this idea actually

[Q] Add/Remove/Change Position Of Capacitive Buttons ?

Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible via an app or mod to add or remove or change the position of the capacitive buttons.
Currently the stock M8 Sense format is Back, Home, Switcher.
I would like to know if it is possible to make it Back, Menu, Home, Switcher, Search.
Please let me know I am dying for a regular menu and search button!

Why not just get to used to how Android is changing and not live in the past? It's not hard to get your head around it and it'll be easier then asking for mods people just don't want any more...

Android is all about customization and personalisation.
It doesn't hurt to ask and see if it is possible, because it has been done before. So no need for such a douchebag kind of response.

OK, my response might've come across a bit 'off' but the principal is still the same. If the mod was wanted by the community then someone would've made it. Xposed might already have something similar available so might be worth looking at that option but I'd personally say it's better off to just get used to what Google are doing to make Android better (yes, better) and accept the change...

the dude just wants an extra search and menu button because that's his preference. Like I said before, Android is all about personalization and customization. If you don't like a change that has been applied, then there are possible methods it can be altered. Telling someone to "accept the change" is contrary to the purpose of XDA and Android. Heck if a guy wanted a gingerbread style status bar or something are you going to tell him "no, just accept the change, it was for the better?"
You shouldn't, because it's all about preference. While it might be better for the majority of the user base, he might not like it and there is nothing wrong with asking if someone has devised a method to apply that change, ESPECIALLY because he posted in the Q/A section.

It's about preference...I never demanded someone make it or complain about it not being available.
Just asking to see if it is available, no need for this type of response
check these out. just stick it on the back of the case and program buttons for what you want.
