Hi everyone!
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this!
I have tried to do research on my problem but can't solve it...
The problem is that i can't get into recovery to backup my stock rom.
Specs: HTC Wildfire S, marvel A510e, S-on, Bootloader unlocked, Rooted, Radio-7.54.39.28M, Andriod 2.3.5, HTC sence: 2.1, Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 5.0.2.8, Super SU.
I followed the guide: "How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON"on Andriod forums by CafeKampuchia, thumbs up for him, It got me this far but, now I want to do the thing for which I rooted my phone in the first place: Installing a costum ROM. Therefore I want to backup my stock ROM.
When I open in HBOOT (1.09.0099) and select recovery, the phone reboots and i see the HTC screen, this disappears after 2 sec and my screen turns black... (phone is still on beceause the buttons on the bottom are lighted.)
When I boot the normal way and try to boot into recovery trough CWM ROM manager same thing happen. Also flashed this recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229 Same thing happed...
So how can i backup my stock rom?
Many thanks in advantage!

P.S maybe its better to pull out battery when you chck fastboot in settings...power off your phone and pull out batt...then put it in and hold power key and volume down at the same time...then choose recovery

I can't get into recovery.. either ways. trough CWM or via hboot.
I just reflashed my stockrom and flashed the following recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229
This actually made it worse, recovery just kills the phone... So think i'm going to reflash stock recovery again.

Hello!
We have already faced this problem. We cannot find the reason why on some devices CWM is not working. It is characteristic for some devices. The decision is not found yet. We used all known methods for today, and all CWM versions (5.0.2.6 & 5.0.2.8), but are not present result.
Colleagues from 4pda.ru
You might try placing update zip on root of your sdcard and choose apply update from sdcard.
Too bad it doesn't have reinstall packages.

Install RSDLite on your PC. Use WinRAR or 7zip to decompress the. gz file you downloaded (there is an sbf file inside - the clean Froyo firmware you want to flash - and save it somewhere.
Take your Defy and press the power and volume up button and release after some seconds so that you enter the bootloader mode (you see some white text on black ground).
Connect the phone via USB with your PC with RSDLite running.
In RSDLite click the button with the three dots and open the sbf file you extracted.
Hit the start button. Now it starts flashing the firmware, takes a couple of minutes.
When it's done the phone reboots and is running a Motorola Froyo firmware (not rooted or something, it can't really be called a ROM). If you want you can root, install CWM again etc and put your ROM in it again.
Almost always when your Defy is doesn't boot anymore or is somehow broken softwarewise, you can use this method to repair it.
thank you for your time.

If you want the recovery menu you need to install 2ndinit. http://goo.gl/5P89P
Open the app and install the recovery menu with it, then reboot (some say it is safer to reboot even two times). You get the blue LED after powering the phone on, you have to press volume down then. There you can get to the custom recovery and wipe data, cache, install zips from SD etc.

Hi guys,
I got into a problem trying to test AOKP. So I flashed the stock HBOOT as I was with the CM7r2 to test the rom but when I come back in the recovery I have this message:
ATTN: recovery is in safe mode
this is because the following partition
is not accessible: "system"
Please enter the wipe menu and format system!
If you changed hboot you should choose to
format all partitions (except sdcard)
Afterwards please reboot recovery

I tried fomatting all partitions but it is stucked on "Formatting /system..."
and even without the sdcard to test
Do you have something to help?

I just flashed CWM recovery and it's functionnal again!
For someone who would meet this problem,
install android sdk
download clockworkmod recovery from the site
flash CWM using fastboot (or easier, use androidflasher)
It's working again!
glad its working again
4ext recovery imo is the best recovery, go to this link, download 4ext recovery updater app, install it then flash recovery from within the app. (if u want that is)

Hi, after attempting to flash a custom ROM to my phone I'm experiencing a big problem, the phone will not boot past the HTC screen. This is obviously very frustrating as the phone is pretty much rendered useless.
I am able to get into the HBOOT menu by holding the Power button and Volume Down and from there am able to select Recovery and enter the ClockWork Mod recovery screens. As you can tell I'm a 100% noob and I really just want to revert my phone to a working state. My network is Vodafone UK. I can't find an RUU above version 3.13 which is apparently what I have (so it tries updating 3.13 to 3.13 and obviously fails).
Any help on getting my phone to work again would be very very appreciated, thanks.

Download a ROM onto your computer, connect to your phone in recovery, mount the sdcard, move the ROM from your computer onto your phone's sdcard, and flash from recovery. No need for RUU.
Dont forget to wipe.
wipe data/factory reset and format all partitions (except sd card) from recovery.
Go to bananagranolas link in her signature, you'll find everything you need there.
Thanks a lot for your help! I was attempting to flash the JellyTime ROM which I understand must have failed to result in my phone not booting properly. Should I flash a stock ROM or will any ROM suffice?

As long as you are S-OFF and have a custom recovery (CMW or 4EXT) you are able to flash any custom rom you like. Just make sure that you make a full wipe before the flashing (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, format system or in 4ext recovery just choose format all partitions except sdcard).
That should leave you up and running again.
Okay great!
I used the HTCDev tools to unlock my boot loader which I understand is different to S-OFF? Could that be while the ROM flashing failed originally?
EDIT: Upon trying to flash the JellyTime AKOP Rom I get a message saying install from SD card complete but it's still stuck at the HTC screen...

If you have an unlocked bootloder, then you have to flash the rom (previous full wipe of course) then reboot bootloader (from advanced options in CWM) and then in fastboot (you should see fastboot usb in red in the phone when plugged to the pc) you have to flash the boot.img inside the rom zip folder.
Extract that file only (not the whole rom) and from a cmd session or terminal as root (located where the boot.img file is) type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once that is done (you will get OKAY. finished near the bottom) you can reboot normally by typing in cmd fastboot reboot or choosing reboot from hboot.
My bootloader now says RELOCKED, how can I unlock it again? (I'm really sorry about this)

Yes it said so...
EDIT: Not sure if this is an issue with the ROM of if I'm doing something wrong? I went to the "mounts and storage" section of CWM and clicked all the format options accept sdcard. EDIT: well, don't I feel stupid. I knew full well from reading that your phone wasn't working, but posted a link to an app. Just not paying attention. Sorry about that.
VBQ24,
You can go back to stock by flashing a stock RUU from your PC.
(Edit: You should relock your bootloader first. you can do so from Hboot. There's an option that says relock bootloader or something like that)
The version of the RUU should be equal or greater to the version that came with your phone. Try this v3.13
However, if you want to flash a custom ROM:
You need to downgrade your device first, get s-off and root, then flash a custom ROM
You need to use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK), get it from here.
Make sure to read the manual (called 'effin manual) word by word. There are instructions on how to downgrade.
Follow the instructions, and if you have any questions, ask here.

That is stock recovery.
If you are rooted, goomanager should be able to flash a recovery. If you are on a stock ROM, the recovery-from-boot script will replace the custom recovery with the stock one on a reboot. If you want a permanent custom recovery, you will have to rename or delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p(this is the patch) or /system/etc/install-recovery.sh(this is the script that tries to install the recovery). I am unsure if goomanager makes it permanent, I have never used the app to flash a recovery before.
Flashed twrp with toolkit, and flashed a custom rom, everything seems ok now, so if someone has problem...
TL;DR
install WugFresh toolkit, be sure driver are installed (you can test driver with 1 click)
download and flash google factory image, again just 1 click,
install new recovery, this is the third click
Thx for help

what status of your phone bootloader...?
maybe you can try flashing another custom recovery like 4EXT or TWRP
download recovery.img 4EXT or TWRP
place recovery.img file in sdk/ adb folder on your computer
and flashing through FASTBOOT .. with command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
already have 4EXT or TWRP..then you can try wipe/ factory reset before installing rom again...
don't forget to flashing manually boot.img too after installing any custom rom if your bootloader status unlocked but still S-ON..
what du you mean status of your phone bootloader? I have unlocked bootloadern via HTCdev. Thats what you mean?
Havent still figured out if its S-ON. Dont not yet know what Son/off means. Will google it

you can see the status of your bootloader when you're turn on your phone with hold volume down + power button then the phone will show up bootloader like locked or unlocked, s-on or s-off, hboot version, radio version, fastboot, recovery etc..
because of your phone unlocked via htcdev unlock..it seems the bootloader is still s-on..
so like what say before about your problem is...maybe you can try flashing another custom recovery like 4EXT recovery tuch or TWRP..choice one
after you have installing new recovery..then you can installing any custom rom but don't forget that you must always flashing manually boot.img too after every installing any custom rom before reboot the rom for the first time...
hopefully this can help..
jizzz... it dosnt seem like i ever gonna get this to work. I did flash the custom recovery 4ext and the cmd-line on the pc did say flash sucsess... But when i tried recovery i just got an white screen with htc-logo. Had to pull out the batteri to boot the mobile up again..
Edit: I got the TWPR working
Now i got installed the custom rom and everething is workin flawlessly (only memory shows 592, shouldnt it be 768?). THX alot for your help

Google a little bit. Part of ram that you don't see is used by android for a kernel to work.
