I am in a big toss up, help! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just got a razr maxx and I still have 7 days to change it out... I and debating between getting the nexus instead.... what do y'all think?

Depends. Do you really want/need an HD screen? Would you be okay with the size? Okay with radios that aren't as great as Motorola radios? Do you prefer custom roms to stock roms?

Who has the better screen? the sizes are roughly the same. Is the radio that noticeable and I do like custom roms a lot

Of course, everyone is different, but for me, the Galaxy Nexus hands down. While the Razr may have better radios(I actually have no first hand experience with them) I can say the latest radios are greatly improved.
Screen goes to Galaxy Nexus hands down. 720p at this size is incredible, and also gives you something to watch on 4g(bandwidth providing).
I took a look at the Razr forums here at XDA and noticed they still don't seem to have a fully functioning ICS. Again, I don't have one so I may have missed it somewhere, but either way, keep in mind the locked boot loader really hurts development. For me at least, it's stock ICS over any skins, so the official update wouldn't do it for me. Let alone when Jellybean rolls around!
It's all subjective of course. Play with a Galaxy Nexus in store, but keep in mind that the screens and performance of a real device are going to be even better. If available, play with a friend's Gnex to get a better idea.

Really comes down to what you want. Do you want to be able to customize or not? The locked bootloaders on Motorola is no go for, but I also went for Gnex because of pure android.

Should I root?

I have had a epic and a nexus s 4g and I rooted both of them and loved it. I rooted for the main reason to help with making the phone faster due to them just having a single core. Using the galaxy nexus it seems to be very fast stock. Will I see a big difference rooting this phone and over clocking it and running roms or is just as smooth as it being stock. I do not use wifi tether and themes really don't matter to me. All I care about is speed and stability. If rooting makes this beast even faster please let me know and recommended what you feel would be the best set up for me to use.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I've always rooted my devices and ran custom firmware (Xperia x10, Captivate, Xperia Arc, Desire Z, Desire S, Xperia Ray, Nexus S)
But with the Galaxy Nexus...ah I am just not feeling it. I am going to wait I think until it gets old enough that google is not giving it the latest version of Android...and by that time I might not even have it because I plan on just paying the early upgrade fee and getting the latest Nexus always, then selling my current device to cover the cost anyways so...I don't know. But I am personally happy with it as is for the time being.
You've rooted before so you know what it's like. I like having complete control and the ability to have access to system apps as well as flash custom kernels and ROM's. So if you want speed and stability then yes root because ROM kernel combos will give you that. But I'm sure you're aware of this already. My phone is much faster with better battery life than stock. AOKP ms3 and faux123's newest kernel has given me what I look for. AOKP's customizations make the phone my own which is what I want besides the speed and stability.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I didn't root for a while but now am happy I did, I dont really notice speed increases but the customability is much better, I have a menu button always visible better lock screen with access to SMS, Widget for wireless AP and silent in my Notification bar. There is definitely benefits!
I never even had a smartphone till I got the nexus. I was so nervous about rooting it. Thought for sure I would brick it. But I realized what is the point of having a developers phone and not seeing what developers can do with it? Might as well have gotten a razr or something that would have ics in a short time. I read, and read some more, found a toolkit that also had a video and rooted my nexus. Best decision I ever made. The development for this phone is insane. I still get nervous when I flash any new rom, theme, animation mod, softkey, or whatever, but that keeps me on my toes so I don't make any mistakes. Stock was nice, but why not have stock on steroids? Battery life improvement is reason alone to root. So I guess I wood say read, learn and root.

Thanks for everyone's in put I feel in about a few days I'll just root and be addicted to flash crack again. Lol

Any users coming from the Galaxy Nexus?

Hey, it's mod, and i was wondering if there is anyone who made the switch from the Galaxy Nexus to the Galaxy S III. If so, do you prefer it over the Gnex? Or do you miss AOSP Jellybean/ICS. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Galaxy S III off contract because of an issue my Gnex is having so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I am considering making the switch over. I love the GNex. Maybe I'm just a little bored with it? Though I do get bored with my phones easily.
The camera is making me want S3. And I also wouldn't switch over if there wasn't a good AOKP/CM10 ROM for the phone. I will likely get the S3, and then that same day install AOKP or CM10.
I made the switch from skyrocket...that's totally unrelated but I always used your ROMs M0D! Hope u decide to make the switch

I had a Galaxy Nexus for a couple months on Verizon before switching to AT&T and getting the GS3. I figured if I didn't like it I could sell it and buy the GSM Nexus off contract. So far I'm happy with it. The two phones seem to perform about the same for me. The GS3 has a slightly faster processor and more RAM, but I think the difference between stock Android and TouchWiz balances out the better specs. I fully expected to flash an AOSP ROM shortly after getting the phone, but I actually like some of the feature of TouchWiz such as the quick SMS after hanging up from a call (I've always thought voicemail was silly). Battery life has been about the same, possibly a little better on the GS3. I'm assuming the larger battery is balanced out by having more processes running on the phone.
Overall, I'm happy with the decision to switch to the S3 instead of getting another Nexus. I love the inclusion of an SD card slot plus the larger screen. The only thing I don't like is the decision to use a physical home button. I'm fine with going with capacitive buttons instead of the navigation bar, but I don't like having a physical button apart from the power/volume. It's obviously not a big enough issue to make me regret the phone.

Depends on if you can go without Bluetooth, and Camera and the other random things that may happen in your experience with it. But the new touch wiz isn't that bad so you may be able to deal until something stable drops.

We won't have too many ROM options, besides AOSP and TouchWiz, until CM10 is officially released. It's out for the international version, but only time will tell how long it takes to reach our version of the device.
If you want to take a giant risk, go ahead and flash ParanoidAndroid for the international version, but it'll probably hard-brick your device.

Hard Brick? If this were Wikipedia I'd tag that with [Citation Needed]
I agree it will probably make it non-functional, but I find it hard to believe it's something that restoring an original sprint partition wouldn't fix.

Maybe so, but I've heard stories of people hard-bricking their devices by flashing kernels made for different devices.
If anyone really wants this type of ROM, go to TMO GN2 forums and look at DaGR8s ROM. Or join #saurom on freenode. I asked if he could bring it over but he would rather have me maintain it but I know zero when it comes to modifying stock roms, smali, etc lol.

No offense, but I don't understand what you're asking. I say this because Android 4 is the same on phones and tablets. I have ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) and this phone, and both are running Android 4.1. The difference are more device specific about screen size and particular hardware.
The mods I've seen are more about squeezing more functionality out the device, such a WiFi tether and mutli-app. They don't bring a more tablet experience than what the device already is in my use thus far.

Your cruelty knows no bonds. Making me search, LOL. Took me a while to find something that showed it. Most just videos on found on Youtube left in the ROM(s) in phone phone mode. This one showed it best that I was able find first.
But yes, I get it now. The sad part, only a few apps I use really have tablet interfaces. I like a similar interface across devices if possible. Although, it would be nice if K9 had a tablet UI. But I digress....
Haha sorry.

I like the idea of picking some apps to use in Tablet form. NFL Game Pass has a good tablet app; but I believe it's designed for 10" tablets, not the small ones such as Nexus 7. I like Chrome's interface on the tablet over the phone as well.
I have the ASUS Transformer Inifinity. Needless, some apps are interesting with their user interface.
Unfortunately, most apps on Android are still designed for the phone interface. As Android tablet get more popular, we'll see design interface incorporate the larger screens.
At the moment, I'm just happy to have a larger screen so I can see without having to zoom everything.

How is your phone?

Hey guys I am so torn right now with choosing this device. I currently have sprint with a gnex, and am looking at the optimus g or the note 2. The only thing I'm torn about is developer support. I would like to know how things are on your phones as far as custom stuff. I know you can unlock the bootloader now which is huge but how is the jelly bean support for the sprint version so far?

Custom rom are slowly coming, currently there's support for CM10, AOKP and AOSP.
LG is also providing source code, so there's way for more in the future.
as for the JB support for the sprint, you can look in the LGOG Sprint section, people there will be more aware of this!

I flashed onto AOSP, so far so good. Excellent battery life on my E971. Getting 1 hr more screen time and not as much Android OS usage compared to stock. So far im at 12 hours on battery with 1 hr 35min of screen time and only at 51%. Only problem is that I miss the notification light, but thats a small price to pay for the newest OS and excellent battery life
WOW!!! I finally decided to keep the phone and now this... not good for LG Do you think they will correct this via warranty?
Correct what?
Gotta be honest with you....I absolutely LOVE this phone and dont think I'm ever going to root it. No need...its fast as all ****ing hell and the software works great. I've been rooting flashing ROM's on my past 2 phones for years and I'm kind of over it....at least for now Yeah the advantages are great but the cons are also a pain in the ass. Camera's that only half work, almost endless amounts of bugs, etc. Not to mention LG is rolling out JB as we speak.
As for how the phone is....its FASTTTTTT. I destroyed my girlfriends S3 in Quadrant and its eaten up everything I've put thrown at it (games, multitasking with apps, etc) with ease.
/\ thats great that you find it fast, I did too when I was using stock ics.. then I flased the JB rom and its no doubt faster over stock.. way more snappy.. like noticibly more as well as better battery life to boot..
Glad that I went to the trouble tbh, this rom beats stock ics by a loooong shot
Considering that everything works (at least for me it does) it was well worth the effort to install it..
Stock JB or some CM/AOKP/AOSP flavored one?
I have no doubt that JB is faster on this than ICS but I'm just gonna hold out for the official, stock JB update. It'll be here in the states in a month or so.
I loved my og... key word, loved..
Dropped it in water. :crying: gotta pay 150 to get a new one with telus..
Just got my LS970 from Sprint. I have LTE in my area so that's awesome. ICS on this phone is a little laggy. It's not as smooth as one would expect, especially scrolling through web pages with a lot of pictures. Even the FB, Twitter, and G+ plus apps tend to lag as you scroll through pics. Other than that this thing is solid. I'm liking it so far but i can't wait for the Jelly Bean update.

[Q] Just got a HCT One V

Hi! I just got a new HTC One V and I like the phone a lot, I just don't like sense much at all and I feel like it is probably slowing the phone down.
I've rooted and put custom ROMs on both my Galaxy Nexus and before that my Motorola Droid 1, and I remember on the Droid there was a great ROM that was tweaked for squeezing the most performance out of the device, while eliminating those parts of the OS that hog memory and do nothing useful, like fancy graphics, etc.
Can anyone suggest a ROM that gives snappy performance. I would give up fancy graphics and transitions for just a plain and simple clean look with fast and accurate response from the phone.
I like CM but I'm not sure that would be the right fit, considering that this isn't the fastest phone, and I would rather it be fast and work, than slow and feature rich.
Thank in advancec.
One question. From gnex to HTC one V? Quite a few of us went the other way around. Why did you take this step?

I am working in a different state than I live, and I might be here for 6 months to 1 year, and my normal service provider has poor coverage where I am at, so I got a pay as you go phone from a small local provider for the time that I am working here. I got the One V because it was on sale and I figured I could root it and get this little phone to work really well for me.
Ah that makes sense. Well you should go for Sphongle. It's the best rom for hov right now. It's in the original development section. I'm assuming you know how to flash since you got a gnex too.

I do, but it has been a while. I was reading over the instructions and they seem pretty straight forward. I did want to check to make sure that the files for flashing recovery etc listed in the sticky are the newest versions?
Also, is TWRP2 the best recovery image for CDMA One V?
Can't help you with CDMA. I had a GSM. So scrap the Sphongle part than too. Just assumed you had GSM.

Oh, OK
I see CodeFireX for PrimioC is the next post in Original Development, maybe thats a good one.
Does anyone have any experience with a fast rom for CDMA?
Slimbean seems good. It's in the CDMA section. But for people that actually used it you'll have to wait a bit longer probably. Since the people in the USA are at work now.
