I thought ICS would enable us to transfer apps to SD Card - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Or is that an Acer issue?

Does kinda suck that you can't do that by default. If it's any consolation...why not do the memory swap from Crossix (if you haven't done so alreaedy)? I use a 32 gb with no issues at all on any rom...it takes all of two seconds...

The mod by Crossix would be great but I'm not rooted and don't really have the confidence to try.

You have nothing to worry about man...the tool from this site makes it completely simple...
but its up to you...keep reading the tutorials/guides in each of the post and you'll see that most of your concerns have been probably asked and answered...

I think the move to sdcard is a gingerbread thing. HC and ICS does not have this feature. You will have to root and use crossix mod for HC or the other ICS method derived from crossix mod.

Maybe this feature is disabled in tablet versions of ICS? My Nexus S phone is running ICS and I still can move apps to sdcard (usb storage) which is the internal sdcard like what this tablet has.

Maybe I will try it. I do read a lot, and it seems there are many different ways to root. But I also have spend time on the Droid Razr site so maybe I get confused between all the info between the two.
Can you tell me specifically the tool you are referring to that makes rooting the absolute easiest possible?
Thanks!

App to SD
I have been trying to use the mod by Crossix in order to move apps to my sd, but am so far unable to do so.
Using:
Acer Iconia A100
Android Version: 4.0.3
Kernel Version: 2.6.39.4-ICSOCTest+
Build Number: FLEX-100-REAPER-RF1-EXTREME-EDITION
I noticed that in the direction for installing the mod by Crossix, it shows the file as install_recovery.sh in the directions but is referenced as install-recovery.sh in a later/earlier post. The file I downloaded is the latter, install-recovery.sh
Someone please help?

It's install-recovery.sh and sits in /system/etc with permissions of
XXX
XXX
XXO
Works fine for me on any rom on the acer, and I've tried them all.
The concept is it tricks the Acer rom, by design it runs this script every boot to replace the stock recovery if a non stock or outdated recovery is detected, crossix just uses that design to run the mount swap instead, but can be used on any ROM, like CM9, with some slight changes.

After checking, that file is not in my tab anywhere... I have an init.goldfish.sh in my /etc folder, but no install-recovery.sh
my init.goldfish.sh file permissions are:
RWE
xox
xox
ooo
any suggestions? I'm down to 700mb of internal memory...

The file has to be added on modded roms like flex reaper, its removed so recovery isn't overwritten.

Ahh, OK. So, copy & paste to root of internal storage, copy to /etc & rename, adjust permissions then reboot and wait for results...? Is there anything else? I did try to adjust permissions on the external SD, but can't. Also, when rebooting, I'm shutting down and then powering back on, is that right?

Shouldn't need to rename it, and yes it goes into /system/etc. You can just reboot, you don't need to power down. Apps like quick boot will let you reboot without powering down, no clue why Acer left that option off.
So, copy install-recovery.sh to /system/etc. Check and set permissions like I said before, X checked O not checked, save permissions, reboot. Once you're back up wait about 30-45 seconds then check storage for internal to show your new storage.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.

It worked!!!
Thanks for the help! renaming it was obviously my misstep in the process.
Now to move everything from "external" to "internal" storage.
Thanks again for the Help!

I just did the Crossix mod and it worked fine for the most part. I lost all of my pics and videos. Also, when I try to change the Camera to the Storage Source of SD Card i get "insert SDcard before using the camera". Has anyone experienced this issue before and is there a fix?
Thanks.

No... I have to put the APK installer file into internal memory... Not after installing.... Is b4 installing
In the basic sense of the question, it means just put the APK "NOT" within the sdcard or any folders under it. I think this only possible if you're rooted.
In any case, I wonder why there's such requirement. APK is just an installer and even in the sdcard level it should work or run. Then when you install, default is the app will be placed in the INTERNAL memory. That should be what you wanted.
Maybe tick the unknown sources option if its not already?

Enhanced Camera.apk

Everyone seems to be asking for a silent camera app, also some desire one with better image/video capturing. There is one in existence however, most wouldn't know this (unless you use the 'search' function) because it's in the I9100 forum. Yes, it does work with our phone but I wanted something that was build from our source and that's up to date. I decided to take the best of both and combine them. This is the Camera.apk from Calkulin's 2.8.1 (EL29) ROM but with the edits from Potatoman's incorporated into it.
Check out Potatoman's thread to see the bitrates and sampling rates if you're curious. Instructions on how to put this in /system/app are in Patatoman's thread also. Let me know if for some reason they didn't work and I'll see what I can do. I've tested it on mine so I know it works I just haven't had a chance to test the sampling and bitrates.
Also, there's a media_profiles.xml that may or may not be useful. I use it anyway. That goes in /system/etc with no special permissions. Just give it the same as the stock one.
Lastly, in no way do I take credit for this. All I've done is combine work from two great devs - they did all the dirty work. If you'd like to thank or donate to someone then donate/thank one of them, or both
Cheers and enjoy.
EDIT: Figured I would add this here for those that aren't sure how to replace a /system file.
For a file explorer (eg. Root Explorer) make sure the system is mounted as r/w. Copy the app from your sdcard to the /system/app directory. Change permissions to rw-r-r. Reboot. I also set the owner and group to root but you shouldn't have to.
For terminal
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /system
cp /sdcard/path/to/app /system/app
chmod 644 /system/app/Camera.apk
Reboot
Only if you have to should you just install it like a regular app. If you have to, just click on the app in your file explorer and select 'install'. This will install it to the /data/app directory. This should never have to be done though.
Just make sure you reboot

No not yet anyway. It just has the higher bitrate and sampling rate right now. I'm new to .dex edits so I'll keep updating it as I learn more. I know there's a power button mod for it but from what I've read its still buggy.

You'll need a file explorer app like Root Explorer. You can also use a terminal emulator app. With the file explorer you copy the app from your sdcard to the /system/app directory. Make sure sure the system is mounted in r/w also. That will overwrite the original, now all you have to do is set permissions which are rw-r-r.
Just to be safe, reboot. If you had a shortcut for it on your homescreen you'll have to put it back there.
For terminal
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /system
cp /sdcard/path/to/app /system/app
chmod 644 /system/app/Camera.apk

No,u need to put apk in /system/app folder but you need to be rooted to put apk's in that folder.

This is default behaviour now due to the multi user capabilities introduced in 4.2 as far as I can tell.

I also noticed that, I believe this is not related to multiple users feature.. Its kind of first storage.. You can see in all Linux storage are list like 0,1,2,...
To resolve this issue we have to make link in recovery.. So we have to wait clockworkmod release for 4.2

You could be right.. the "emulated" folders I note in the file system are related to how Android 4.2 is handling multi-users. Anyway.. smarter people than me are probably best to comment on this next
Try flashing a 4.1.2 rom and check your backups again..

He flashed an OTA, not AOSP. GN does not "support" multi users. It has to do with the way Google is looking at storage after implementing multi user support. You will not be able to use it on the G-Nexus OTA though. Also, Clockwork needs to be updated.
DONT update to a 4.2 ROM until Koush updates CWM.
And is there a way to remount sdcard back after such update?..

I had the same problem, but i manager to restore my backup, here is what you have to do:
1- install file manager e.g. Es filemanager..
2- go to /sdcard/0 and find clockmodwork folder
3- Long press on CLockmodwork folder then copy or cut.
4- Go back to /sdcard/ and paste.
5- now reboot to recovery and the phone will see the backup
Note that when copy the folder it will take some time, however it depends on how many backups you have.

The solution is simple, took me forever to copy my backup:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995585
1. Keep the files where they are and increase the number of 0 directories every time we install a new rom.
2. Use the new Twrp and live with folder 0.
3. Move all our file from 0 folder back to sdcard with a file manager.

Have only read the part with the commands, not the whole project. I dislike adding files to the system folders.
A solution could be a cd to change directory to the sd card and run the script from a /sdcard folder.

Workaround to write to Ext SDCARD?

I just switched from my M7 to the M8 yesterday. I was excited to have the external SD for saving pictures, moving apps, but mostly to host my backups. I have since unlocked my bootloader and rooted the device. Unfortunately I'm unable to write any back ups through TWRP to the card. I was wondering if anyone found any fixes? I've already tried SDFix but it seems not to work with our device. Any help would be appreciated!
Sidenote: I know this probably belongs under development but I'm unable to post yet as my post count is too low. Thanks again!

I tried it again using "su". I'm pretty sure that is what I used the first time as well because when I entered the command the super user prompt came up to allow access for terminal. Same results. Didn't see any confirmation. Exited app and tried running SDFix and failed again. I then followed your link to your thread and followed step by step. Got all the way to the point where I was trying to save the text document at the end and got the prompt that I could not save the file.
I'm usually pretty good at following tutorials and I'm sure I'm not skipping steps but who knows. I think this one has me defeated lol.
If you put it on your SD card try just /sdcard/wp_mod.ko

If you run the command.. And then run it again. It will tell you it already exists that's how I figured out it ran ok..

Could you detail the edits for reference anyway please? I'll need to know shortly too.

Sure. Here it is:
You need to make following change to platform.xml in /system/etc.
Add <group gid="Media_rw"/> under WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE(or similar).
Save. Set Permission to rw-r-r or 644.
Reboot and Enjoy
Good luck :good:

Well I ran through both tutorials (yours and the others) once again. Entered the command twice to confirm and got the message "failed file already exists". So I'm assuming that part went through fine but still unable to run SDFix successfully or edit the install_recovery.sh file. Wouldn't allow me to save through es text edit or the standard one.
So now I'm trying to manually change the platform.xml file. When I navigate to system/etc I don't see any file named "platform.xml". Also tried a search through es file explorer and couldn't find any file. Any thoughts?

Are you mounting it as r/w in the file explorer? It doesn't seem like you're doing that. I know the module works.. You can't just install the module and it's magically writable.. you still have to make it r/w in a file explorer before you make any changes. I don't use es. I use root explorer and there is a r/w button on top.

Wow. Excuse my ignorance. I wasn't doing that. I downloaded root explorer and used the button to mount as you mentioned and viola I was able to save the edits! I'm now able to create folders on the ext SD. Still get an error when trying to backup from twrp but I guess that's an issue for another day.
I really appreciate all the help!

As of now recovery doesn't support exfat formatted cards, If your sd card is formatted as exfat it will fail in recovery. You need to either format your external sd card to fat32 or just wait until the recovery is updated to support exfat. It will once they get kernel source code

How far out do you think that is? I was figuring I could just get a cheaper card for my backups. Only thing is if I remember correctly Fat32 only supports up to 4GB files correct? I remember my backups being a tad over that so getting another card might not even make a difference.
