Hi,
i read many times that people like sense, because of the great email app.
Although i like the look of it, i miss some very important feateres, that the somehow cluttered Gmail-app does give me.
Both the Gmail app and Outlook show me conversations. The sense app doesn´t. If i want to check what i ansered, i have to go to the sent folder and search for it.
If i haven´t answered yet, it´s going to be a long search, whether in Gmail or Outlook i can see right away that i haven´t answered yet.
Second thing is that i get Outlook attachments as winmail.dat. i know it´s an Outlook-Richtext issue, but the Gmail app can deal with it, most of the time.
Somehow i´m not a fan of the Gmail app. I find it cluttter.
So i wonder if i have missed something with the praised sense email app.
I also tried K9, but it doesn´t work with conversations either.
thx, nearly
Threaded view.
Ok, thanks. I got that ticked. And it works on some threads i just saw.
But most of my email conversations, that are threaded in the gmail app aren´t in the sense app.
I guess, there´s not much we can do about this...
thx, nearly
In mail, go into menu then folder and click on in box plus sent. That will show you your sent messages as well.

It does, thank you, but its not in a thread.

Set to always BCC yourself? That worked for me.
A bug I noticed is that the font size when viewing, composing and replying seems quite random. The font size in the settings only control the size in your editor box when composing emails, but not the content sizes when viewing them.
Changing the overall sense font size only affects the email listing interface but not the content view. I'm finding the font a little too big for my taste.
Just notice you must also set to sync your sent items under your account settings, not just the inbox.

Hey everyone, I'm new to Android and just looking to get situated with everything.
I use Gmail for my email and I've found the stock Gmail app to be ALMOST exactly what I need. Major flaws are zooming in and out and selecting text are impossible and it really annoys me.
Basically the features I want are:
Push or IMAP, I like the delivery speed of the Gmail App
Label support, or if folders are used then the ability to Star/Flag/COPY to folders instead of just moving
Zooming out for viewing large emails
It would be nice to have a unified inbox, but not a big deal for me
I'm pretty disappointed with the Gmail app missing some of these key usability features. Is the HTC mail program better in any way? Are there any other options that work well?
Thanks.
Pretty sure the GMail app has label support. You can star and label things as is since "folders" are just labels in GMail anyways. Push for GMail is a FroYo feature, afaik. Looking forward to that instead of having an active connection for my GMail.
Zooming out would be nice but on the Evo's screen it doesn't seem like it would be really needed unless you have people e-mailing you that don't know how to press the enter key every now and then. I haven't tried zooming in/out in the HTC e-mail app but I doubt it's present there. Seems like a low priority feature, imo.
The non-GMail e-mail program is pretty good. Supports POP, IMAP and Exchange ActiveSync. Unified Inbox, no. Personally, I dislike a unified inbox as I like to know who is sending me stuff where and with what address I should be replying with. I've yet to setup folders and such but I expect you can since folders are a pretty basic function for e-mail. I know the Exchange ActiveSync will sync folders, contacts, and calendar so you probably can.

Yea, the Gmail app does have Labels, which are essentially folders.
The Gmail app is perfect IMHO except zooming and selecting text. The zooming is an issue for emails I get that are HTML formatted. Like Gamestop or Best Buy, etc... They usually have big headers and text with padding on the left. This makes the text all out of my view. The only way to read then is to turn my phone sideways and/or scroll left to right as I read... A little anoying. I noticed this issue in the HTC mail program too.
I also noticed today that I can't select text or copy it from emails in the Gmail application. I'm not sure if this is an issue in other clients as well or what.
not to thread jack by any means, but this seems relevant to my question, somewhat. does anyone know how to (when you have multiple accounts linked) have it send from a specific account or am i limited to the one i have synced with my phone?
thanks and i hope you get your problems resolved, i wish i could select text too, its a bit annoying that that feature isnt there.
Gmail app works perfectly for my purposes but you are right that it doesn't have zoom or the ability to cut and paste. If you come across an email where you need either of these two, just open up your browser and go to Gmail from there. Both of those functions work perfectly on the mobile gmail site.
Yea, that's what I've been doing. Just a little tedious considering they are pretty basic features. Not really dealbreakers for me though.
Might I suggest K-9 mail, it's and open source solution that has imap/pop support and integrates seamlessly.

I'll try it. It can't hurt right.
I'll throw in a vote for k9. I use it to manage 3 emails, two IMAP emails through godaddy and my gmail. It works great for me.

Oh I agree. I am all for decreasing keystrokes/screen presses. That's the reason I have Camcorder and Camera on my home screen. I should only need one but if I'm in a hurry to capture something, the fact that it takes an extra three screen presses to switch between video/still means that I might miss it.
I think it's quite likely that Gmail will be updated to include those basic features in the near future.
Thinking about getting the phone - but just have one question as this has been holding me back for a while now from getting an Android phone.
Could anyone confirm if folders and sub folders for TouchWiz email Exchange client are all on one level or have a tiered structure as per Outlook ie:
Folder 1
¦
------ Sub Folder 1
Thanks.
That woul be a very important information for me too!
Looking forward to detailed answers!
TIA
+1
Thanks!
I can't confirm the folder structure but can confirm that Activesync works.
Thanks!
Could you confirm some other things, too?
- bi-directional contacts sync
- bi-directional calendar sync
- bi-directional sync of recurring appointments
- html mails
- confirming appointments
Hmmm. Folder structure depends on the view you look at it in. It shows all my Exchange folders in a list in the main view (there's a quick dropdown to change folder) but in folder view, it shows in hierarchy.
Bi-directional contacts and calendar have been working since the original SGS and all synced to my phone fine. Not sure about recurring appointments but it syncs all of mine from Exchange to the phone fine. HTML mail works fine too (would be a bit ****ed up if it didn't!). Never tried confirming appointments so I can't say anything about that.

Thanks for the information. That's interesting because the default Android email client on 2.3.3 does not seem to include an option for folder viewing hierarchical folders...
I'm on my first full day so can report on this a bit now.
I'm trying out the stock client with an ES 2010 server. Some nice surprises:
- Full folder structure accessible
- Server search
- Task sync (!)
- Decent interface (don't love the dark background for the email list...)
- Syncs faster than my Atrix running Froyo
- Nice little widget icon showing unread emails
- it's got a crazy 2-pane inbox view w/preview when in landscape mode (think tablet view or desktop Outlook) - this is really cool!
- Out of office setting
On the downside, the email list widget sucks - it doesn't scroll and only shows 3 most recent (not even unread) emails so that's a bit of a disappointment. Also the calendar widgets are nice but they're too large and not resizable. Thankfully Calwidget works fine.
I'm going to try to live with it. I have a paid TD license and I had gotten used to their widgets on my Atrix, but I suspect stock is more battery friendly.
Thanks for the info. Would you mind posting some screenshots of the email client. I used Froyo, and I can't even do a search on my emails. I ended up using TD as well. Do we have search now? Is there pinch to zoom on emails? If not, can we resize font size? and How? sorry too many questions.
Thanks in advance.
I use sgs2 as my primary business phone., exchange 2010 support is the best ever, on windows mobile or android.

Here you go...I've been using it for a few days now and NO need to employ TD which is saying a lot for a native Exchange client! The only thing missing is Notes sync which I can live without (don't change notes that often and can just drag them into Evernote).
The client actually blows me away...to answer your question, we have search as you'll see in the screenshots, as well as pinch to zoom, font resizing in both the Inbox view as well as the message body. Let me know if you have any other q's.

I don't need to sync multiple exchange-accounts, but I have several calendars in one single exchange-account.
Is it possible to sync all calendars, that are present in my exchange-account, or can I only sync one?

No options there for the "calendar folders" so I don't think so. Then again, I don't have any sub-folders so I can't be 100% sure.

Actually I do not work with sub-folders in calendars, but I have several calendars in Outlook under the main-folder, that are synced to exchange.
Can you try to add a new calendar in outlook and see if you can sync that second calendar to the phone via exchange?

Hey Thanks a lot....
One more question. From the screenshot, I can see the search is "search server" and not local search.. is that true, because if so, then I need internet service to search and also it would be slower.
Thanks again
Hi can anyone check if attachments can be opened if they are received as part of a calendar invite? Say a pptx or something similar...

Okay, I noticed something weird last night.
When I send an email from my HOX using HTC mail client IMAPped to GMail, two copies of the sent mail appear in GMail on my laptop.
This was confusing me because in threads it looked like I'd sent two copies of the same email.
I've tested it, and I am not sending two mails, but it looks like I am saving two copies of the emails in my GMail account.
I've had a look on Google to see how to fix this, and there is mention of unticking a 'Save Sent Email' option - but I can't find that on the HOX.
Has anyone also noted this 'feature', and has anyone been able to remove it?
TIA.
Unfortunately the HTC mail app doesn't play nice with Gmail. If you log into your Gmail account through a browser, you will notice three new labels. I think they are [IMAP]Sent, [IMAP]Trash and [IMAP]Drafts. Instead of saving sent messages in the normal sent folder, the HTC app saves them in the [IMAP]Sent folder. Gmail then saves another copy in its own Sent folder. I think the only way around this is to use the Gmail app.

I don't know if you found an answer, but I was able to fix it by going to the desktop Gmail settings, "Labels" tab > then check the "Show in IMAP" for Sent mail, Drafts & Trash. Then removed the unwanted Labels (IMAP/Trash, IMAP/Sent & IMAP/Draft).
Hello everyone... I apologize if this is a repost, but can't seem to find it.
My wife has an Galaxy S3, I have an One X. all of our accounts are synced and linked. (Facebook, Whatsapp, Gmail, etc) our problem is that in my ONE X in the people app I can't see her Updates nor can I see her Gallery from FB. I can se other peoples updates and gallery, and on her side, on the S3 contacts, she only sees my update from Google Talk, which we dont use at all, and cant seem to change it to any other account.
we both come from iPhones and this is a little frustrating having so many options now in android and not being able to use them right....
anyone having similar issues?
thanks beforehand ....
yes yes yes... I am a noob.....

A couple of things.
First, go in to "Settings>Accounts & sync" and make sure FB, Twitter, and LinkedIn are all set up to sync and that their settings are correct. Within each of them you should have choices about what to sync. For Twitter and LinkedIn there should be two of each of them. One for the standard app and one for HTC Sense that's used to keep the FriendStream updated. The LinkedIn connector for Sense isn’t installed by default. Go to “HTC Hub>Applications>Categories A~Z>HTC Essentials” and you’ll find it there.
Next, go in to "People" and at the top of your contact list there should be a "Notification" bar. Sense does a background scan looking for similar contacts that should be potentially linked (EG: phone, Twitter, FB). Go through that list and link or ignore the recommendations.
Lastly, go to "People>Manage contacts.
Go through "Merge Contacts" and consolidate any shown. If you have contacts that Sense doesn't recognize as similar you can also manually merge them to the correct contact so you don't have multiples for a single person. You should also run "De-duplicate." If you long press on a contact it will give you options to manage it also. This seems cumbersome and I had to stumble upon it at first but it works pretty well at keeping your contacts linked properly and current.
Thanks for the reply.
All of this is done. The problem comes when I go into a specific contact. I can see the linked accounts under the specific contact and on the bottom it shows tabs for Detail Thread Updates Gallery.
Under updates we should be able to see the updates from social accounts, like Facebook. Which I can see from other contacts, under gallery O should be able to see the photo gallery from my wife's Facebook account as well. The thing is nothing comes up. Only a message saying no updates or events and no albums when trying to access the gallery

check your settings on the facebook websites for what you want to see and for which you want to be notified and also delete sense from the allowed apps and retry again
Go to settings>apps>people>and erase data and force stop, it could help.

I have 7 different email accounts for work and home etc etc...
Its getting really really annoying to have to go into each to check the mail from that account.
Is there anyway check ALL email accounts at once from Combined View?
Seems like a hell of a thing to overlook.
Just noticed i put this in the wrong forum, my fault...Mods please move to correct forum.
Thank you and my apologies .

Been using k9 for a few days now. Like it. Its good. Kind of a shame that the stock email doesn't do it and we have to download another program for a simple thing like that. The program is a little choppy getting through all my mail, but I have tons of mail I haven't gone through yet.
Hopefully Google will change their mail app to include this feature at a later date.

Cool thing about k9 is that is actually built on top of the code for the stock email app. Improved if you will.

Just like how windows comes with WordPad for word processing but if you need anything more you buy office.
Stock email app works for most people. I have gmail and corp email and I like to keep them separated. My blackberry would combine emails and phone calls and messages and I hated it. I like keeping everything separate.
