possibly bricked lol - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

here is what I did
i was coming from Calkulin ROM and decided to go with milestone 5 so i did what the directions said i flashed el26 through odin and when i was doing that the computer died on me (my fault) so i thought it was over, it was time to call in for a new phone but when i took the battery out and went in my recovery and did a restore it was back to normal
so i took my chances and flashed it again this time it worked but i forgot to flash the gaaps so i tried to go back to the recovery i had a stock recovery 3a so i tried flashing el26 through odin mobile and that f***ed everything up now my phone is stuck at the galaxy sII screen with the yellow triangle
so my question is whats best to do? call sprint get a new phone
* i dont want to but a jig might as well get a new phone*
or is there somewhere someone can point me to to fix it
any help will be appreciated thanks.

Are you able to get into download mode by holding power+volume down for a few seconds?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Can you get it into download mode? If so, hook it up to a PC and use the Odin OC EL26 to see if that will clear it up. (The yellow triangle can be removed with Triangle Away once you get to ICS)
And please don't thank me for this - I've just seen sfhub post the same thing time and time again. If anyone deserves credit it would be him for this post.

yea im in it right now

You got this far so your chances of being hard bricked dropped dramatically. Hope the Odin OC does it for you on the first try.

An ICS rom won't boot with el26 kernel so its normal. Just boot into recovery from the triangle screen, wipe, then reflash the from and gapps

Once you are in download mode and it finds your phone (a yellow box with a COM port lights up and you'll see "Added!" in the log box) just click Start and wait until the bigger box to the left of the yellow one says "PASS!" If it looks like it's hanging at the Modem, just wait - process takes about 10 minutes regardless if you have a power system or not.
(I'm exaggerating on the time but you'll get the point.)

Cus this has happened to me about
10 times since messing with androids lol cant be mad if i dont read every little thing like im suppose to

Thanks everybody hes alive again lol so my question is now after flashing el26 to get milestone what kernel should i get then to make sure i dont lose my custom recovery ?

Hey OP I hope you get it up and running but with all the threads about what to do in every situation if your phone takes a dump... I am not sure why you posted this and scaring more people but ok do you!
Next time try odin , try Google, try JTag, try Sprint and last but not least try your TEP. Those are the true steps to getting another phone or your phone up and running(notice none of the steps say make a new post about bricking). I know to some it may seem like this was useless but for those that get it... well Good luck OP

see you got it up and running ..... LOL enjoy and glad to see you got a sense of humor as well

There is no custom recovery for ICS roms until the source is released.....custom recovery on ICS causes bricks

Ya without the custom recovery you're safest option is going to be to Odin back to EL26 with CWM5 any time you want to switch to something else. It's an extra step but the one pretty much surefire way not to get a brick. And use Calk's Format All instead of doing all the wiping manually.

Best fix, is to ODIN back to stock and start over. If you flashed a ROM, you could try going into CWM and wiping data/cache/dalvik and reflashing...
Go to Development section and follow the thread near the top in the stickies regarding how to fix a semi bricked epic.

With the phone off, press and hold the 1 key on the physical keyboard then add pressing and holding the power button. Yellow triangle saying download mode will pop up. Then you connect the cable to the PC with Odin or Heimdall running.

[Q] Weirdest BootLoop Ive ever Been In

Ok So Like Im Not Sure What Happend But Ever since i Flashed The Epic Kang Mtd Rom ive been having problems like out of no were it froze so i took out the battery and when i restarted it , When Restarted the Bottom 4 Buttons ,That Usually Turn on once and continue to boot animation, blinks twice and it stays there forever
I Have
-Odin It To Stock
-Used K0anne's method
-Used Samsung Updater
Mos of them didint work and when they did work it was only for a short amount of time so.... Help?
-Forgot to mention that sometimes when im odin'inng it or using the updater it stops in the middle of the process and the screen turns one color
You have a bad cable your screen turning a solid color means its a bad flash/ connection try a blackberry cable and odin back to stock and reroot and flash the cm7 and it should work.

Are you trying to get back on CM7 or Odin to stock? The MTD conversion takes a couple of boots I heard. I imagine the first converted you to MTD and now the second should flash the ROM. Never did it so just going by what I read.
If you are trying to get back to EC05 with Odin then check repartition and reboot, make sure to use the included Victoryxxx.PIT, take out the battery and sd card, use a good cable and with Odin up plug phone into USB port then quickly put it into download mode. The computer will supply the power. It will not reboot at the end until you put the battery in.

Sounds like a bad partition table. If he repartitions with the PIT and the battery out, plus uses the stock EC05 from here:

He should be able to get it to boot.

[Q] Is there any SAFE WAY to back out of recovery install?

I've already bricked 1 ET4G and don't wanna do so again(Thx best buy for replacement!)!!! I followed all the steps and warnings! I went back to gingerbread & EL26 recovery! I had flashed many other times without incident, but this time I went to install, it opened package and started update(install) i dont remember which it was then proceeded to sit there for 4 hrs and do nothing! Being a JACKASS(!!!!) figured nothing had really started and started pushing buttons basically! My question is, is there anyway to SAFELY stop or back out of and install if something like that happens again??? Any help greatly appreciated! I don't know if best buy will buy the whole bad OTA BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL again!

That has happened to me before too and I did a battery pull. Could not get the phone to boot but I could however get back into download mode and recovery so I just like the previous person said Odin'd back to stock and re rooted. That is what I would do if I were you. Also what recovery were you using when it froze? If it was hitman I would stay away. That is the recovery I was using when I got messed up too.
Like he said, i would stay away from Hoffman and CWM9(TOUCH). Both are buggy. Use cwm7 rogue. Never had a problem with that.
---------- Post added at 01:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:41 PM ----------
Hitman sry. Darn Swype lol.
Can you hold down power and volume down within recovery to boot you into download mode without pulling battery?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
No. You can't. Just pop battery. Wait till all the had buttons shut down. Then put in the battery but don't boot up. Now Vol down + power + home into download mode. Press. Vol up. Odin back. (flash again)
If a USB jig doesn't work, ur bricked and should probably stop messing with ur phone til u do some research. Not being a ****, I'm somewhat a noob, but I read OP instructions to the T and if I'm confused I Google, check YouTube, and if I have to post on xda lastly.

Sounds strange. What exactly did you flash before hand? From/kernel/mods anything.

Odin you noob. Why do you even waste time with posting such useless garbage? If you can't get back to stock from Odin then post.
I handed my phone to my mother to show her a picture and when she went to hand it to my aunt, my aunt dropped it. I didnt think nothing of it when I locked the screen but when I went to unlock it, my phone restarted and went to a straight black screen and started to vibrate over and over again. I tried to pull the battery and then re-insert it and boot into recovery but when recovery showed up and I went to restore to a previous ROM the phone rebooted itself and started vibrating again. Now I'm at the computer trying to place it into Download Mode. The screen pops up that says to either push Vol + for Download or Vol- for restart. When I press Vol+, the phone restarts and goes straight to a black screen again.
And I'm not a noob, I know what I'm doing my phone just started acting up
And I'm Running the AOKP ROM with Eugene's ICS Kernel with the Tmo_SGH-T989_LC8_Radio
What previous from were you trying to restore?? When you restore a nand back up you have to make sure that the rom you're restoring is the rom that's already installed. In other words if you wanted to restore a back up you would have needed to flash the correct rom before hand. Though I'm confused because if you did try and restore a previous rom say a cm9 back up and you have aokp currently installed it shouldn't work. Cwm will tell you there's a mismatch and it aborts the installation. My guess is this drop did some damage. Your phone isn't making it past post per say of your using pc terms. Can you try and boot back into cwm? You said download mode doesn't work. But does cwm?

I don't know what I did but thankfully I got it to boot into CWM and I'm restoring my ROM
maybe hardware problems if you dropped it, wasn't bricked, we usually say bricking a phone from bad flash, don't we? lol, i am not sure. try taking off sim card, micro sd card and battery then carefully put them back on next time if you have problems from drops etc........
Got to admit the whole "Brick" wording gets thrown around way too much for my liking and lets be honest if you are not a noob then you know all the steps to take in my opinion to try and restore your phone. If those steps dont work and you have researched the web then let Insurance kick in if you have it.
Not trying to flame or be an ass but just saying any non noob should know the steps to try and bring our phone back from the dead... I dont think starting a "Brick" thread should be on that list... Coming from the epic touch where the ICS kernel was bricking everyone its just makes me cringe when I see that word.... My bad man if you don't care for my opinion

Here is my 2 cents
Yes people jump the gun and post bricked phone threads but that's probably because they are panicking.. And yes I agree that people should use the search function and read whenever possible.. And yes people should be reminded to do so..
But if you have the time to criticize someone then why don't you try to help them too..
If you have nothing helpful to add then don't post anything
I like my Roms the way I like my women..... Clean and smooth
I had this same problem, when I tried to go in to recovery and do a restore it would reboot its self even while flashing a Rom.what I did was...go in to recovery and quickly clear cache before it reboot then go back and clear dalvik then go back and try to flash the same Rom you had installed. It did work for mange when I was trying to restore.
Hope this helps

so you tried..
1. remove battery.
2. plug in phone to usb on computer with battery STILL OUT
3. while plugged in hold down volume up and down.
4. Still plugged in and still holding the volume up and down, insert your battery.
5. boom choose continue and find download mode.
If this doesn't get you to DL mode then either something broke hardware wise when you dropped it, OR your not being honest with what you did to cause the problem..

Are you using the file that is stated in the post you referenced? Im no unbricking expert but Not sure putting verizon firmware on a tmo phone works very well...
Also I had a problem with Odin awhile back and it turned out to be the cable I was using...
If you can get into download mode and have odin recognize your phone I believe you will be good to go if you put the correct software on your phone...
Think you should try to Odin back to a stock firmware for your phone instead of using some sort of "unbrick" method... use only one from this post

From an Odin guide I read, can't remember the one now. I believe it said to use the cable from the wall charger. Other cables may work, but that is the one that should work for some reason no matter what.
Good Luck.
If nothing else works on it, search for mobiletechvideos.com. I flashed I-9300 ROM onto my T-999 phone. Hard bricked it. I sent it to those guys and within 1 week, phone was back and was like it was before I flashed the wrong ROM. Great service they provide. It was also my only option. ha.
