That's what happened when you have high expectations of anything... you get disappointed. Personally, I think they could have done a better job. Yea they have some cool new features, but there should have been more. And that siri like voice thing is a fail.. they should have copied that.

Had no expectations and I'm still disappointed.
I don't need a phone to tell me which of the captured photos is the "best"
one.
I felt certain things can be better but that eye recognition & pop out player was amazing to me (if you can do it with all videos like YouTube, etc.) I'll sell my other SII today...
But I might hold off til they get a 1080p display because I'm not jumping ship for a 720p display
I'm debating whether i should wait for the GS3 to be released and export it, or to buy the galaxy nexus now. It's kinda disappointing that its almost the same screen as the nexus, and the back of it looks like SHI*.

On a 4.8in screen, I don't think the eye can determine the difference between 1080p and 720p. The difference is literally microscopic. On a 60inch TV you can for sure tell the difference though.
I was impressed with the eye sleep option, liked the continuous flash that determines the best photo. Like that you can pick up the phone while texting and it automatically calls someone. Also like the quad core processor. It apparently has gotten impressive benchmark scores. The ICS with touchwiz looked pretty good to me, along with the additional toggles as well. All in all I was happy with what they released.
Honestly, it would be my absolute dream phone if only it had two things: a NOTIFICATION LIGHT/LED, and of course AOSP. Fortunately, one of those can be fixed with ongoing development, but BLN just doesn't quite fill the void for me. I miss that notification light. :/ otherwise, I like the curvy simplicity of it, and the dark blue finish rather than flat black is a nice choice!

Even on a 60 inch screen it is nearly impossible to tell. Its just all part of marketing and wanting to have the "best"
As far as the phone, I am honestly not that impressed, I think the GN is still the better choice, sure it may have nice specs and all, but when it cokes down to it. We need a phone that will have the latest software and this will he no different than the pickle we're in right now. We'll be behind again in about 3 months with next OS. Nexus all the way for me from now on.

Not impressed..... Going to hold off for the new nexus instead.
Of course, samsung did a great job; however, i think ill just be sticking with my gs2 for now. In the US, it'll most probably get a Qualcomm dual core processor so besides a few improvements from the gs2, its nothing major. but definitely a nice phone!
Reply
I dont feel theres nearly enough improvements to justify upgrading sure would be fun to have something new tho haha
im torn, I like alot of the new feature the phone offers, but the phone looks like a nexus/gs2, nothing drastic like we all hoped for. Kind of like a iphone 4s imo. What do you guys think about the upcoming nexus phone? that might be the game changer, since rumors has it that it will be a upgraded version of the s3.
when does google usually unveil the nexus phones? at their google io thing in june?
just my 2 cents
Disappointed
Overall - disappointing.
Great performance and features - absolutely!. 2100mA battery should = longer usage times (even with 4 faster cores). HD res is great. Improved UI. Some very nifty accessories. 8mp camera is fine as improved software & performance makes the picture - though Carl Zeiss optics would have been great.
4.8 screen getting too big for a phone. Was hoping for an ultra thin bezel hence reducing size.
But pentile matrix? Heavier? Thicker? No quality materials? Old Mali GPU? No LTE? 1Gb RAM? And featureless design? Very, very poor for a flagship phone that's meant to be setting the standard...
Heavier I understand (bigger battery weighs more). But there's HD Super Amoled plus on tab7.7 - why pentile here? Competition has phones 6.9mm thick. HTC, Sony, even Motorla & Huawei have better designs (not to mention Apple) and materials. So it's not as if any of this wasn't achievable.
I have a SGS 1 & 2. The S2 was well ahead of the competition, bar materials and uninspiring design. Was looking forward to a groundbreaking S3 on all fronts. It's very good, but good isn't good enough these days.
Samsung needed to tick more boxes to place this phone undisputably out in front leaving others to catch up & not easily surpass.
In no rush to get one now, and possibly might not. Will wait to see the competition - eg: Sony Ion, HTC, even (lord help me) Apple; or maybe wait for SGS4.

Now this was in a recent course which was 2 weeks of use. Had one briefly during launch and traded it because of the demand. Saw development picking up so I got one back and gave it a longer try/go.
The Galaxy Nexus is awesome don't get me wrong its just that it seems like they put more into the interface looking pretty than basic elements running smoothly. It has cool features which will definitely be a upgrade to people that haven't tried it but some of your favorite apps may not work and if your someone that likes to use your device day in and day out be prepared to bring a charger with you. The only 3 things that amazed me about the phone was the face unlock, the screen resolution and the softkey mods. Battery life was lacking and those three features weren't enough to make me want to keep this device. Tried everything from rom, radio, baseband combos and it just didn't make it better. Some other people may disagree. I don't buy phones to have them sit on a desk so showing me screenshots with 75% display(meaning standby/lack of use) won't convince me otherwise.
Now when it comes to the T989 I feel like it's a overall better device. Even though we are on GB we will have a ICS rom soon whether if it's OTA or Leaked. Better battery life with rom and kernel combos that actually show improvement, great storage for pack rats, and development from both sides of the fence. Not to mention we have a new addition to the Devs I feel like the Sgs2/T989 is a strong enough device to hold me or anyone over till the Sgs3, but I'm sure I will try out the Blaze as well.
2 Galaxy Nexus owned/traded and I don't feel like I'm missing out by coming back to the Sgs2. In my eyes they both have strengths and weaknesses but it's far from a slaughter.
:-D

I feel like the Skyrocket is a better device too, it's the reason why I haven't grabbed the GNexus.
And with the CPU/GPU thing, the S3 just about destroys the OMAP4460.
Adreno 220 is much faster then the SGX540, and even though the OMAP has the same tech as the Exynos, it just doesn't seem nearly as fast, and the Snapdragon feels much quicker.
Also, on the GNexus, could you still see pixels because of the PenTile display? On my friends GNexus, I have no problem noticing the pixels, but I can't see them on my Skyrocket.

Hmm, guess it's just my eyesight then, or it's his screen, because I could EASILY see pixels without a problem.
And I agree, I watched a movie on it, looked ****ing AMAZING.
I'm glad to have another perspective on this. All I can say is glad to have another fan back.

Good decision, the gs2 battery life is no joke. And especially now that TDJ has his hands on a device, expect greater things to come. Eugene, not sure how great he is, but other people can vouch for him, so i can't wait! But RK and TDJ is an amazing combo, they finished strong at the mt4g dev section. Made it imho the best single core device.

If you think your battery life is good, ask us Skyrocket's and T-Mo SGS II users.
Thanks to the GSM/LTE combo in the Skyrocket, I use battery at the same rate as they do, so there's no battery drain.
I do 12-14 hours on a charge with heavy usage (I mean, constant texting, web browsing, gaming, listening to music).
I use my phone constantly. On the Nexus I was getting 4-5 hrs. I don't see how that is acceptable. In time I'm sure a kernel will give it more juice. The phone has only been on the market for 2 months.

Hmm.. while i agree with some, most of them i don't, and the unlocking fee is not applicable in the equation
firstable what do you mean by Graining/Blobbing?
Voodoo is not applicable to our device
ICS is guaranteed so the GB part is only partially applicable until we get 4.0
the Plastic Feel is subjective to each person feel, to me the T989 is one of the better quality Samsung has ever build to date
the Galaxy Nexus actually feels more plasticky, i like our back cover more than the one that came with the i9250

I included the unlocking fee because i buy my phones for full price and i have to have them unlocked which most of the time it cost me money since none of the unlocker apps work and tmobile wont give them to me. I travel alot and being as though the nexus comes factory unlocked i figured i would list it as a con on the sgs2 side and a pro on the GN for myself.
The Graining/Blobbing is from a thread i read which most people have been experiencing which runs more in the category of lines running vertical in some screens. I experienced some but its not a big issue. That was in comparison to the 720p screen of the GN which i found no screen issues viewed from any angles.
I know Voodoo isnt functional with our device but i saw several people mention it and i was one of the people that miss it. Just from back in the Vibrant days. I think it is or was more effective than Volume+.
ICS is coming we all know that, but trying out ICS and than coming back to GB to me is a downgrade. Not just based on the OS #, but because ICS has more cooked in, and it will be great once we have it officially on the Sgs2. It was listed as a con for me because we have to wait on it for some time. May not be a biggie to other people.
The feel of the GN felt more nice is the hand to me with or without a case. The sgs2 in the color black feels nice in the hand maybe more so because of the door material , but the white model feels more cheap. I have a white on the way as im selling my black because I like the full look of the white but i know i have to add a white body glove to it to get a better feel of it.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA Premium App
very interesting regarding the white vs black model of the T989 i didn't know the back cover was different on the white
i was under the impression it was just the color.
re: unlocking fee, well in that case i do agree if you compare it as the total Cost of the phone, but that being said, the i9250 is still more expensive even with that included into the total of a T989
i'm indifferent about the Graining/Blobbing as it happens on both devices, actually all new AMOLED devices seems to be suffering from the same thing from what i've read across devices (Nokia, G Note, G Nexus, T989, i727, the new HD version of skyrocket, etc)
it'a factory production thing... not much we can do
that being said, i don't see the problem when using it normally, it only shows up when you have brightness all the way to Zero, otherwise is not noticeable
any brightness setting of 20% of more will just make it go away

Ive read that as well, but i only noticed it so much on the devices i had.
The door on the black t989 is more so like a carbon feel sort of with more grip, and the white t989 is more glossy/slippery.
Also thanks for editing my OP. I was mobile at the moment of post.

I wonder why all these GN vs GS2 threads are here? No need to justify your purchases. We all like and want different things. I can appreciate a new POV, but in essence its all the same. I can find thousands of people who can say the GNs pros outway the cons. To all their own I say.
Sorry, if it feels like I am targeting you, it's just these threads just seem like people trying to convince themselves more than anyone else that their phone is better than the GN...which is very subjective.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
I seen the gn and hated it its so ugly the missing buttons r ugly too

Well this thread is more reasonable than the others because at least he listed a whole list of pros and cons. While the other ops are like "gs2 ftw" or something along those lines. He's not necessarily bashing either phones. he's listing some things that will help others decide if the cons outweigh the pros for either phone. Like if you're a battery user, immediately you would want to stick with the gs2.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I agree with your points.
I just traded my white gs2 for a galaxy nexus and I plugged it into my computer and couldn't even transfer files to the sd card -.-. After installing drivers I can do it through MTP but I feel like out of the box internal sd card support was one of the major advantages of having an android device.
I might be interested in trading back for a gs2 but.... the screen is just... AMAZING on the nexus. I can't notice any pixels like someone else stated earlier but the screen quality is great. I had a sensation and was complaining about the ppi when I moved to the gs2. It would be hard to readjust to the galaxy s 2 if I do decide to go back to it.
Another point is the camera quality on the galaxy s 2... it completely blows away the nexus. I don't think the nexus is horrendous but for a 700 dollar phone you would think they could make some improvements. I also think that a better camera app would help, the native camera app in ICS isn't that much of an improvement from AOSP gingerbread.
The last and final point that would make it difficult for me to move back to the gs2 would be the operating system. Ice cream sandwich took a bit to get used to but after playing with it, its definitely a more fluid experience than the galaxy s2. Even if the gs2 gets the update.... I find it hard to believe that the update would be as anywhere as stable as the nexus. There are major bugs in the CM7 build from a couple months ago.... I just wonder how long would it take to get a stable ICS one. Also I would assume that the ics update for the t989 would come with touchwiz. Touchwiz sort of kills the beauty of ICS for me, I tried it out on the i9100 and it wasn't very impressive--it didn't add many pros over the gingerbread build.
I think its a toss up... if camera/internal hardware/specs is important def go with the t989
If updates/support/screen quality is important then go with the nexus.
I'm back with the nexus but i want a att note now that it can get tmobile 4G.

I don't own a nexus but I considered buying that beautiful phone many times. But now I think I'm gonna get the HTC One X. What do you guys think of that phone? Any of you getting it?
It's a nice phone.....but not worth the upgrade from a Galaxy Nexus.
Tegra 3 ain't too great for starters. But luckily they have a Krait option in the One XL.
The protruding camera has poised to be a small problem also.
And it's just so damn expensive right now.
Will probably end up holding this GN till the next nexus device comes out as I just got it. Unless the SGSIII is too damn amazing to pass up.

But in all seriousness, don't think you'll find many people with the Galaxy Nexus who will dump it for a Sense device, a mere 4 months (at most) into owning the GNex. Just not that big of an upgrade, even if it was stock Android 4.

Cool I respect that. There is no doubt that the nexus is an awesome phone.
I'm not a fan of tegra 3 really, omap or qualcom preference. But the one x looks stunning. And I want HTC to sell a ton of these to get back in the game and mix things up.
Nexus always for me...
Camera is a lot better than I expected on the Nexus. Was expecting the worse, took a few snaps after updating to 4.0.4 and it's pretty good. White balance and color tones etc...are true and accurate.
In low light, there's a bit of noise but it's to be expected. Because it's 5MP can tell some shots just can't get all the detail when zoomed in and looking at the pics.
But the One X camera is a beast. The 4FPS is nuts, it's just continuous and stays in focus too for the most part. But it seems that it still isn't the best which is surprising. Just competitive with the other best camera smartphones.

Probably not now that I got a Galaxy Nexus. I was thinking about getting the AT&T version when it came out but I probably wont now. Doesn't seem worth it.
I might use my upgrade on an iPhone 5 or something or SGSIII depending on how the phones are.
Then sell one of them for the new Nexus in November/december
While the phone nerd in me wants the newest toys I know I would hate sense. I hear its gotten a lot better but I love plain Android. I tried miui and restored my back up 5 min later lol

I think One X is a significant upgrade:
1. cpu is almost twice as powerful
2. gpu is 2-3 times more powerful
3. camera is a LOT better accoridng to reviews
4. Display is apprantely the best on a smartphone ever. (this one may not be a very big deal for us but still a good upgrade)
5. Design is just awesome, seems a lot more robust and slim than gnexus.
When it falls short is the software. I've never owned an andorid phone other than gnexus so I don't know: do you guys think vanilla ics will be fully functional on this phone and when do you think it'd be available?

From my experience......AOSP on any other phone besides a Nexus is nice, but it just doesn't feel right. There are some small minor things here and there that just makes you want a Nexus instead so you don't have to deal with the little bugs.
It will definitely get Vanilla ICS eventually, idk how long....it looks like the One X will have a good dev community behind it. A lot of people are thinking it's one of the great phones ever lol
The CPU is better, but its literally just 2 more cores of the cortex-A9 which is what we're running also. And nothing is really utilizing it efficiently.
GPU is better but thats not hard honestly. Nvidia apparently isn't using any real new tech in it, they said it themselves somewhere. I'd wait for "Keplar" to be in it with Tegra 4 revision.
Screen is a toss up, it could be a lot better, and it might not...idk i don't have one lol. I have a feeling its nice, but idk if its a drastic improvement over SAMOLED HD.
Either way....best to know what Samsung does with SGSIII before making any decision. It might turn out like the SGSII and Sensation where SGSII just ended up smoking it. Though, the Sensation had a great dev community and definitely one of the largest outside the Nexus, and SGS series phones.

Totally agree
I'm usually on a one phone a year cycle with the Nexus phones, but since my GN screen is cracked I will probably jump on the SIII early summer and then sell that for the new Nexus and Jellybean at the end of the year. If the SIII comes packed with a bad ass Exynos processor then I'll definitely do this.
One thing about the nexus though, how strong is the screen? I mean it's not gorilla glass. Is it really resistant?
Definitely a great phone, i doubt ill be trading my Nexus for it though. i have convinved an iPhone user to buy it for his next upgrade so ill get to try it out

It is similar to GG in terms of scratch resistance, from personal experiences using SII and now GN. Sand seems to be the only thing that scratches it, so make sure u dont take it unprotected to the beach . it wont be as strong though, but under normal day to day conditions it should be fine, scores well in drop tests.

Samsung intends this to be a niche device (a phablet, if you will) while HTC has strongly insisted that the DNA be called a phone. Oh, and by launching only on Verizon, that means I won't be buying it... ever. (T-Mobile fanboy here ... not to mention I save a ton too)

This
noted for future reference on my Note 2
it has a smaller battery than the GS3 but it has a bigger 1080p screen so yeah good luck with the battery

Hahaha! Yea I was thinking it has a higher resolution but yet the battery is weaker than that of the GS3. So either you carry a charger with you all day or have a set of battery extension because its going to drain fast during usage.
Now I wouldn't think about trading my Note 2 for the DNA one bit because both phones pretty much have the same specs. The Note 2 at 720p is already rich in screen resolution. You'll have to stare at it from about half an inch away from the screen to notice the pixels. I'm pretty sure you'll see less pixels on the DNA while staring at the screen from the same distance, but who'll want to do that?. With the Note 2 you can also record videos and take pictures at the same time like the how the HTC always advertise on their phones. Nothing new about that. Now the only down side I see on the DNA is no stylus (many people who hates holding a pencil, let alone writing their name would not care for it at all), no expansion slot (I cannot rely on cloud storage as an alternative), the battery is weak and non-removable (so unlike the Note 2 it is not meant for heavy usage), and finally it's from Verizon (the carrier whom loves to brand the **** out of their phones).
But I don't like to tell people what to get. If any phone they find that suits them, then great and good luck with their new devices. We all win. :good:
EDIT: Forgot to mention that with LTE the DNA will suffer even more on its battery.

Droid DNA is a phone - GN2 is a phablet ...
But i want both of them, the best two devices in the world until now.:silly:
DNA has everything I try to avoid in a phone...
Lol im surprised at how everybody like shot the droid dna out of clouds ...so it seemz that gn2 is still the god of phones!!! Or has HTC started losing their over all appeal because of the recent designs and bad moves they made (locked bootloaders/failure to see their batteries are basically dead paperweights/ etc)...idk what is your opinions...cuz those were tge reason I avoided the one x and grew sick of the one s

The only thing arguably better would be the display / resolution. Other than that, Note 2 owns all the way. At this point in time, I don't really care much for 1080p. For my next phone in about a year or two, thats a different story.
a less than 16gb for screen 1080p phone, pass...

I checked out the Note2 again tonight this time only for about 15 min when I stopped by Best Buy & immediately felt like this is such a real huge upgrade from my EVO 4G that I must have it soon. Then I started noticing the whites weren't as white as my EVO & it could be brighter (set to max) & even experienced some lag but I did not have time to do a reboot.
I am curious to see the DDNA, 1080p natural color screen with amazing cameras like the OneX & improved speaker etc but obviously annoyed with battery & sdcard situtation (not a huge fan of all the red styling either but would slap a case on it) yet I will have to check it out. I think the OneX variants are the best "smartphone" display & camera & at 5" DDNA should be impressive (always thought 5" is a great size but the N2 managed its 5.55" amazingly as well & the stylus puts it in its own class).
So do the non-white whites & brightness of the screen around sunlight on the N2 ever bother anyone?

I would go back to HTC if they stopped emulating the iPhone in their designs. My SGN2 is my first non-HTC phone in 7 years - They no longer offer anything I'm interested in.

I will admit that the 440ppi and handling of colors is a huge notch against the n2.. the droid however is it a dealbreaker for me...No...does it hurt people who are truly craving that 1080p display and higher color reproduction...it might...Htc decisions to do certain designs and moves on there devices seem to be pushing people away already from what it seems...as well as the fact the series of their devices theyve released is starting to flow the "Apple way"..thats just coming from me though

No doubt. I gave my Galaxy S III to my girlfriend. I held it this morning for the first time in a week. It feels so small and tiny now that I'm used to my Note II. Next phone I get will need to be around the size of the Note II.

And I believe its just the touchwiz clock. Look for that.

That's what I'm saying. They doubled the RAM, improved the processor, raised the resolution, made the screen bigger, improved the camera, added some pretty cool software features and yet people are complaining and bashing it lol.
I'm a Nexus fan and will always buy Nexus phones, but the S4 is a solid device and will sell like hotcakes.

They made a special edition SIII in black.. wich had LTE.. but it costed like the same as the SIII + half of that again.. xD made me sad..I wanted to try they're new processors power etc But i had my friends SIII for two weeks, so i got to root and flash and have alittle fun

Not much difference software update wasn't there at all, I'm hoping to see Google add a lot feature on their upcoming update, I like TW feature but I hate how it looks completely and sometimes don't feel like flashing a theme, anyways back on topic to the op you might find one in the market soon or here in XDA

Keep in mind that the Galaxy S line has been a huge success from the S, to the S3. With each one you only ever see them improving on what the last one had. The S4, is essentially a way faster S1.
Like the iPhone 5, it is essentially a way faster iPhone3G.
What you'll notice is that you'll only find drastic changes to the design if what was previously done didn't sell well.
Think about Nokia and Windows Phone. They've had so little success that they had to go for broke and change everything about their phones. Even Sony took the 'Ericsson' out of their brand to ditch the bad rep and start anew.
The S3 was insanely popular, so the S4 will only have incremental changes. If the S3 had a physical home key and was so successful, why take it out?

I have both at the moment, but need to ditch one of them. Problem is there are great things about both, and they're very different experiences. My main thing is the camera. The S4 can take some incredible pictures... the One is solid and fast, but a lot more inconsistent than the S4. The S4 also allows me to say "cheese", "capture", "shoot", to get it to auto-focus and snap a shot - which comes in handier a lot more often than I thought. The One also doesn't quite match up with battery life, but that makes sense given the smaller battery.
First world problems...

Are you stuck on ME7? The S4 I bought a week ago had a bad button - it came out of the box with ME7. However, in store yesterday they just grabbed one out of another box brand new to swap out, and it's on MDK. Since the One is locked up for now, and the S4 I have now can theoretically stay that way as long as someone (like yourself ) continues providing stock/rooted ROMs, correct? Making the decision even tougher... that, and as much as I like the speed and quality of the One's camera, the S4 can simply take some amazing shots... S4 also seems to get better battery life, but the One's UI is smoother/snappier.
Blah...
I'm wavering back and forth myself between getting the One and selling my S3. Aside from build, I personally feel the quality of Sense all the way through is far superior to TouchWiz. I think with the camera is 50/50 because I've had some great shots on my S3 but I've also had some horrible shots; interestingly enough, now that I think about it my first S3 had a horrible camera but the CLN I got takes much better photos.
Anyway, for me even if the battery life is so-so on the One I think fit-and-finish will still win out on me if I go through with it.

The S4 may seem to take better shots because of its over processing. I would personally just find as many camera comparisons as you can and even check out Flickr's camera finder to see.

Sense is definitely cleaner and simpler than Touchwiz, and snappier. But TW on the S4 has a few features that become relatively addicting once you're used to them (this isn't my first S4 )... Air Preview is one - it seems gimmicky, but once you're used to using it, it's pretty handy. Using your voice to take a picture is another I use ALL the time - keeps the hands steady and helps with the self-shots with the kiddos.

This isn't my first S4 or my first One - it is on Verizon, though. I've tested them both extensively, and honestly they both do a lot of processing. The One's camera is really fast, especially if you're using touch-to-capture, and has some cool features like "events" videos. The One has a tendency to wash out in lighter scenarios because it lets so much light in. The S4 keeps lighting more balanced, but if there's a shadow in the foreground (like on someone's face), doesn't bring it out as much because of that "balance". Honestly, the S4 takes better low-light shots than the One does when it's in Night Mode - which it can recognize automatically, but doesn't always do it. But it's also a slower shot than the One's low-light shots. Flash-based shots are hands down to the S4. The One's are good, don't get me wrong, but the S4's shots are bright and balanced with little to no washout, and very crisp and clear. You can really take advantage of those 13mp with the flash. Outdoor shots, especially in good sunlight, also go to the S4 most of the time. If all else is equal, and you're snapping a photo of your kid going down a water slide 30 feet away, they'll both do great - but the S4's will actually be croppable, while the One's will get noisy really quick at that distance.
So in general I like the quality of the S4's shots better, I like the feel and speed of the One's camera better (less the lack of voice control), and I like the feel and speed of the One in general, but also miss some of the voice controls that the S4 has. I also don't hate the S4's feel - it's very thin and tight... just not the nice brushed aluminum feel of the One. I also like that I can root/rom the S4 if I want - I don't do it much any more but would like the option. I can hope the One will be able to soon, but who knows... If I ditch the One today, it'll probably get s-off tomorrow. If I don't, it'll probably be 3 months...
edit: and I also tried out a Droid Maxx for a few days and besides battery life and an incredibly smooth, stock-like UI, found it lacking in almost every other area compared to the One and S4
Holy essay... goodness, sorry - went off there for a bit.
Ha no worries! I never use the voice features or any of the Samsung TW features on my S3, so that's a non-issue. As long as I can control aspects of the camera like metering, exposure value, iso, etc I can work with the camera.
My brain is going so fast trying to think this one through.
I absolutely agree with that sentiment! Months of reading and my conclusion is that I want a mash up of the 2 phones. The One with the S4 Camera & an SD card slot! In the long run, I am an amateur photographer and the S4 will probably win...

I've been wondering this same thing but for me the tricky thing is the lack of the software buttons I'm so used to on my Galaxy Nexus.
Though between the s4 and the one there isn't much a difference although the one's offset home button is kinda odd to me.
Hoping one day I'll be able to flash a rom that ignores the hardware buttons in exchange for software buttons, but that might not be as nice either. So still a tough decision.
I had the s4 and went with the one. The camera is barely better on the s4. No cellphone camera is going to take good shots in low light conditions and I think the one does a bit better than the s4. In normal to great light conditions the cameras are pretty darn close to me. I like the Zoe feature of the one.
Battery life seems to be pretty much the same as well. I'm getting just about the same amount t of screen on time.
I think the one ui is much more fluid. And the big winner for me is the screen. Wow does the one look way better!!
The build quality is amazing on the one as well. I love how it feels like its a solidly built phone he plasticy. I out a case on mine so it kinda doesn't matter but you can still feel that the phone is solid.
Of course that's just my opinion.

The One's camera is also wicked fast, especially if you enable touch-to-capture under shutter options - tap where you want it to focus, it adjusts lighting and focuses and snaps very quickly. And I love being able to make a short video montage with preset audio and effects and share that easily... pretty cool feature with the kiddos.
I think the main areas the S4's camera will win out are large scenic shots that you want to crop or zoom at all, for obvious reasons. And also shots where there's a lot of contrast, it tends to balance things out better, while the One seems to wash out the light areas when focused on the dark areas, and vice versa.

I absolutely agree with that sentiment! Months of reading and my conclusion is that I want a mash up of the 2 phones. The One with the S4 Camera & an SD card slot! In the long run, I am an amateur photographer and the S4 will probably win...

If you are an amateur photog, don't you have a dedicated real camera?

Of course, I have Dslr, but I don't always have it with me, and I have found that 50% of the time, the Phone can equal it...The other 50% it doesn't come close!
BTW, I took the S4 back and got the One! Was not happy with the Camera and that was the only reason I bought it...
