Speedtest? - HTC One X

I've just run the speedtest app on my One X, and an iPhone 4S, both are on Orange, both connected to the same server. Download speed on my One X was 40% slower than the iPhone. Upload was 4X slower! I thought android devices were supposed to be quicker? Dammit - the iPhone owner is now laughing at me...

I don't know if it's everywhere, but on AT&T SpeedTest doesn't report correctly with the One X. It shows way low on d/l speed. I use the test on AT&T's site and it feels correct based on what I think is improved performance over my ex-i9100.
http://www.att.com/speedtest/

here in india i used reliance 21mbps 3g for comparision. i used my one x beside it apple iphone 4s and both reported speed of 1.5 and 1.6mbps respectively. thts not amajor difference though

Were you testing them both at the same time? That would cause one to be slower, also, he/she might be laughing because they repeated the test, without your knowledge, while you were testing yours.

No problem here on WiFi

The tests were run separately. Both HTC and iPhone produced similar results through wifi, but I was miles behind when using Orange network..

Three HK.

Here is O2 in Ireland.

As you can see, SpeedTest's broken on AT&T.

It's possible that although both on same mast and same network, that you were being routed to different (orange) servers, one being more loaded than the other, which would explain the different results

1 test is not enough as speed depends on mast availabilty

T-Mobile - horrible reception? (Time without a signal)

I've got the T-Mobile SGS3, and am getting horrible reception.. time without a signal hovers around 30% at home on this phone, where as both my Nexus One and Sensation had no problems whatsoever with signal. Going for WCDMA preferred instead of GSM auto (default out of the box setting) didn't help.. fwiw, I'm getting 3-4 bars of signal on the statusbar.
is anyone else having this issue, or is my phone just a lemon?
Thanks!
bump.. no one else is seeing bad reception?

I think a lot of people are having this problem in one way or another, including myself.

Im on sprint, and my signal is piss poor also. Take forever to logon to pandora and forget about watching any videos, impossible. I'm thinking the modern needs an update. What's the sense in having this bad ass phone if we can't even listen to internet radio in peace. I'm going back to my SSG2, and getting my HBO back for lunch
I'm still getting 25-30% time without a signal, just sitting at home.. why is the signal strength for the SGS3 so bad?! Is it a Samsung issue? I've only had HTC android phones before this one.

Quick reviews from people who've had the phone for a few months now

I'm most likely going to be getting this phone sometime in the near future and wanted to ask if anyone noticed any niggles or other nonsense that sometimes happens with Samsung Android phones (i.e. roaming notification not caring about no longer displaying the message, GPS issues, etc.)
Just quick reviews, mostly I'm looking for the little things that bug people.
Thanks
Bloatware on Stock ROM. That the Cons.of this phone. Custom ROM and you will sell your TV and your computer. Never posted using the computer after GS3.

+1, had a number of smartphones in the past, this one clearly blows all of my expectations away. The only issue I've had is sporadically losing connectivity to my wifi and I'm not sure if it's something I've loaded or a bug from Samsung/Sprint. My kids have the Evo LTE and Iphone 4S and I wouldn't trade for the world.
The best phone yet IMO, yes the only con I have found is data connectivity every once and awhile. LG8 radio seems better than any other. Been running jellybomb rom, superfast. Fastest phone I've owned so far, and I've had um back to the HTC Hero.
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3
Best phone I've ever owned with regard to... everything. There's a reason it's the hottest-selling phone right now.
Chones!!! It's great except half bar on WiFi when I should clearly be full.

Try moving your router as far away from other electronics. As for the phone...I'm really loving it. With an extended battery( Hyperion 4200mah) in it, I'm getting almost two days off charger with 47% still left as I type this.

Its the best choice, my only gripe is maybe that I wanted quad core to dual boot Ubuntu and do my best to ditch all use of laptop or desktop. ...but ..then again despite all the quads having nicer gpus even the a15 based s4krait kinda disappointed next generation I suppose
This is kinda a crappy year for the fact they are transitioning production processes I'm really hoping the next exynos generation skips a15 all together
But yeah long story short ...it beats everything we have in the US market

Virgin Mobile Data?

Anyone on Virgin Mobile been having the worst reception lately? I get no 3G, pure 1x. This occurred to me almost a week ago now. Reception goes from 3 to 0. And sometimes no data at all.
I'm on the east coast at PA Philadelphia, and I don't know if Virgin Mobile is doing something, or if its that Hurricane that's hitting.
Sent from my HTC One V using Tapatalk 2
Also, MMS keeps doing this when downloaded, and some other error when sending after 10 minutes.

I had these said issues few days back on stock or custom Rom. Virgins network sucks right now. I'm thinking of getting unlocked nexus from Google. Freedom of choice that way
sentfromybrain
You had them, did they go away, or do you still have them?
I think it's Sprint. Releasing phones with LTE, while they don't have LTE yet. Maybe Sprint is doing something. They said something about LTE in December.
Yea they persisted for a few days. But now back to average speeds and connection times. Slow still

[Q] Why are my Wifi speeds less than 1/4 of other devices?

Hey guys. Ever since I updated to 15Q, my wifi speeds are terrible. My laptop gets 57 down and 11 up, but my Nexus 7 only gets 9 down and 14 (why is it more) up. Is this a known effect of the new build? BTW, I'm more than comfortable with custom roms and all that, but I just saw no reason to do it here when stock is awesome in every other aspect. Any ideas on this?

Comparing PCs to phones or tablets is usually an apples and oranges comparison. The Wifi adapters in laptops or desktops usually have more throughput than tablets and phones. Do you have a mobile device for a side-by-side comparison?
I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in the download speed of my N7 through any of the updates. And it stacks up just fine with my phone on Wifi.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4
My guess is the apples and oranges thing too. My N7 FHD is just as fast via wifi as my N7 1st gen and my old rooted&rom'd NC
I realize that it would be lower, but I'm saying that it was closer to 30 before the update. My surfact tablet gets a full 50. My HTC one gets even higher(probsbly because of the "ac" card.)

On an actual download, my nexus gets about 750KB/s. Actual uploads, it gets 500KB/s. Speed test on right units: 50KB/s down, 8900KB/s upload. Take your results with a grain of salt.

Enable all bands for AT&T

I have an unlocked T-Mo M8 on AT&T, and am missing bands needed by AT&T.
What I have done:
Tried all the radios
Loaded the AT&T RUU
I am still on UMTS when my S4 would be on LTE
I'm at a loss, is there anyway to enable the hidden bands?
Any ideas?
The bands aren't hidden. They aren't there.

Maybe that's true but I can't help but think that they are. With the AT&T M7, they issued an update to add some bands. The hardware HAS to be identical between all M8's
So far all reviews have said the T-Mobile version is missing bands 2, 5 and 7. And it also doesn't have qualcomm's antenna tuner. That right there probably was the nail in the coffin.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'm just stuck having spotty LTE.
I wouldn't totally give up, but as said before and the fact T-Mobile skimped out on the case and headphones in the box and the antenna tuner doesn't bode well for a 'fix'. It was probably a cost cutting move.
