HTC one x or evo 4g lte - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Anyone jumping ship to the new HTC on sprint? It looks nice but I'm so anti HTC since the Eris days... and the battery non removable bothers me...

no.
-stock android > sense
-updates from google (hi jellybean)

What does this have to do with the Galaxy Nexus?

maybe hes going from GN to one x?

I got a One X today for my upgrade from Rogers and I planned on selling it right away on eBay. Turns out my Nexus is on eBay now instead. The Nexus has three things that are better:
-OLED screen has better blacks
-Stock ICS with faster updates
-Removable battery
The One X is better in every other respect. Build quality, display crispness/color, speed, responsiveness, camera, and LTE since I had a GSM Nexus. I do prefer stock Android, but Sense 4.0 is pretty good and adds some useful features. Besides, CM9 is only so far away.

Mm the phones came out almost 1 month before the other one in sprint so is not really an upgrade... I had both evos and I missed stable cm7 so I'm keeping my galaxy nexus I still got my 4S if anything I'll trade it for the one lol

Just bought Sprint Nexus... should I return it and pre-order the EVO LTE?

I still have a week left in the 14-day window. It's my understanding that the EVO LTE comes out in a couple weeks. Should I return this phone and pre-order the EVO? It seems like it will have much better hardware than this, but I'd like feedback from fellow enthusiasts.
I'm torn because I just spent $550 on this phone and if the new EVO is better and close in price, I want to get the most bang for my buck, you know?
I'm asking this here because I want to know what any of you fellow Nexus fans/ owners would do in my situation.
Thanks in advance!

Honestly , it really comes down to customization and stock android. If u want stock ics with the best developer support stay nexus.

Do you want stock ICS or Sense? That makes up your choice for you.
I'm about to buy the Nexus, I'm done with HTC and their locked bootloaders and closed source drivers.
All of the newer HTC devices have really weak developer communities compared to every other OEM due to the way HTC locks their phones down.
Why would you ask Nexus owners if you should return it and get an EVO LTE. We all own a Nexus for reason because that is the phone we want.
All the specs for the EVO LTE are known so compare the 2 phones and decise which one fits your needs the most.
With what went on with the 3d and how long it took too unlock the bootloader ....it's a clear answer you should buy nexus or wait until may 3 to see what Samsung announces about the galaxy 3...which well be easy to root and flash with odin

I doubt the eve will cost around what Sprint is selling the nexus for, its probably gonna be higher.
I'd sick with the galaxy personally

I was thinking the same about the evo. Since I had both of them in the past but I think I ma stick with my nexus. Sense still present heavily and I know how much of it affects in performance personally. Camera does look great but the nexus ain't bad(btw I'm on sprint at the moment too)

Agreed. The sheer support and customization ability of stock ICS makes this a winner over "faster" phones.

Galaxy Nexus New Phone

I currently have the sensation. Always had HTC my whole android life. Love HTC but thinking about diving into the Samsung life. I'm thinking about buying the unlocked gsm galaxy nexus from the play store.
I can't always afford the best phone at the time, I pay cash. That's why the one s and galaxy s3 are of limits. I am on T-Mobile US
You guys think it's a good idea to switch? I realize this is the nexus forum, and it would be biased. But I want to know if it is a good idea, or if I should wait for something else. Is is too late to buy one of these?
Just give me all opinions. Thanks in advance.

I literally just changed from a Rezound to the GSM nexus. I can almost gaurantee you'll like it more. HTC sense drags android down so much. I also really enjoy the plainess of stock android. Also if there was ever a good time to jump ship on HTC its now. They are dying off quickly right now.

From what I have seen so far it is decent. You can get a 2000mah battery that negligibly increases the size of the phone if the stock isn't good enough (1750mah). I don't use my phone a whole lot during the week because I can't carry it into where I work but it has been better than my rezound was. My typical use with my rezound would give it all of 10-12 hours of life, I see my nexus getting about 14-16 especially with power saving kernels and simpler roms.
I was Verizon + HTC for years and I just switched to the GNex on Straight Talk. I could not be happier. It's an amazing phone at a great price. JB is what Android was meant to be. Battery, signal, camera; it's all been great.
You won't regret it.
if u are a heavy user like me id recommend getting larger batteries. the stock battery only lasts me about 8 hours with medium/ heavy usage ( using facebook/ twitter/ youtube and playing huge games like max payne)

Most seem to think there will be several of them, not just 1 this time. And that they will be out by Christmas. But there's no official word this is just the rumors. They for sure won't be US$350 though, which is why I just bought this one. I, too, am a to-hell-with--your-contracts kind of guy, so I pay full price. And frankly, 600+ for the new Nexus is just more than I am willing to pay. Especially when I care nothing about being the fastest or having the newest. I'm happy with my OG Evo right now, in fact. But DONE with Sprint!

Trade my nexus for a new white htc one x

So i have been having my nexus galaxy for a couple of weeks and just download codename rom and i have to say its the best android phone i have so far. Then I see someone wanting to trade mine for a new htc one x. Specs wise theres a difference but I need your guys input if you guys would in a heartbeat or give input if I should or not. To me I am thinking jb>sense ui but on the other hand they said for one x, jb is coming out and jb on a quad core sounds crazy.

Don't do it. The nexus may not have the same specs as the one x but it delivers a superior experience due to vanilla android vs HTC sense. That and JB may be the last update the one x sees where as the nexus probably has few more in line.

I still think HTC make great device but if you love flashing and to have the latest Android, you should keep your GN.
Unlock bootloader can be painful and risky. Customs ROMS need more time before being ported because of some proprietary modules...

Personally, I wouldn't even do the trade for sale and profit. The quality control of the gnex varies somewhat. Mine has a good screen, overclocks well, and seems loud enough. IMO, if you have a good one, keep it. If you have a not-so-good one, go for it.

You guys are right. I have a perfect gem galaxy nexus with no problems with perfectly calibrated screen, and battery is amazing. I am currently at 43% percent battery life with 17h so far with almost 50 percent screen on time just with random kernel and no display tweaks. Going to do this guide to make it even more better http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599025 . I am astonished. I told him I am going to hold it off for now. I am prolly going to look for another galaxy nexus to buy and then do that and maybe do a side to side comparison. Then make profit .

basically this. then you can even get an accessory for the Nexus after. you know, if you're into that kind of thing.
Do you like listening to music on your phone? If so, steer clear of anything that HTC have made in the last 2 years. They have a serious design flaw in the way they've been shielding their audio chip set, so there is a real problem with line noise. You get this low hissing sound in the background of every track. I had to ditch my One X cause it was giving me headaches.

Is it worth buying a Nexus today?

Hello,
How are you?
As I have said in previous threads, I currently have a Galaxy Note.
I am wanting to switch to a bit smaller phone with better handling with one hand on the go.
I've though about the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3, but I think the support in regard to updates is just slow.
So, I am thinking about a Nexus.
My question is with the Nexus running older, is it still worth the purchase today? It is a fairly bit cheaper than the S3 or HOX.
ALso, the camera is an important feature to me.
I don't carry dedicated cameras with me no more, so I rely on my phone to take some casual snaps.
How is the camera on the Nexus in comparison to my Note, in regard to general image quality?
Hope you can help me out.
Thank you.
Best wishes.

If I were you, I would wait a month or two to see which handsets that will be released.
The spec's on the Nexus is 9 months old so it is not the best out there anymore in regards to hardware, but it is without comparison the best handset when it comes to updates and community support.
The camera on the phone is OK, not the best out there but it manages for my use. I don't know how it compares to the Note's camera since i've never tried it.
if the camera is important to you and is a higher priority rather than the software updates I'd go with something newer. Having gone from a GS2 to a GNex I can say the picture quality is down and is noticeable. I'm guessing they use the same 8mp sensor in the Note as the GS2
I have the post-ban Gnex GSM.
In the last year, I've used One X (awesome screen, awesome camera, but that's it. Sence is stupid), Nokia 900 (awesome hardware, meh camera, meh screen, terrible app store), GS3 (awesome everything except touch wiz), Galaxy Note (hate touch wiz, good camera, good screen, unique), and of course the iPhone 4S.
Today, when my friends ask what phone to get, I direct them to GS3. I'm not a fan of touch wiz, but it's hard to deny the awesome hardware that thing has in it.
If you put the Gnex software with the S3 hardware, you would have the best phone in the world today. For me, software is more important than hardware which is why I support the nex.
Yes, it's worth it.

Thank you all for the replies.
Is the Nexus too much of a downgrade in terms of hardware from my Note?
Also, If I install a rom like CM10 on my Note, I will almost get that stock ICS feel on the note, or even an S3, right?
Those kinds of roms are not that much ate in time after the original Google updates, are they?
Cheers!
The Nexus is always worth it especially for development.
The Nexus is always the way to go if you like flashing ROMs.
No jelly bean for Verizon or sprint Gnex yet. International s3 getting official jelly bean next week. S3 over Gnex was an easy decision for me.

I own the Nexus VZW and S3. I prefer the S3 for the hardware but I love the nexus for roms. I will probably flash the S3 today.
When it's said that the nexus is better to install customs ROMs, what is the difference from a HOX or S3?
Does the nexus have a bigger development community and better support?
Cheers

Official nothing. You buy a Nexus to have the choice to not wait for the carries. All versions of the Galaxy Nexus have stock and custom ROMs built on 4.1.1 source. I run stock 4.1.1 on my Sprint Galaxy Nexus and it runs just as well as any other.
Development on a Nexus device is always easier than any other, has more potential, and a larger development community. Your GS3 may see 4.1.1 but may get left in the dust for the next version while my Nexus will remain up-to-date, regardless of whether the "carrier" releases it or not.

I went from the Note to the Nexus yesterday. I realised that the Nexus is a better size for me but the Note lives on with my wife and it is an awesome peice of kit. Also for me as much as I messed around with TW roms I always craved vanilla Android. The problem is that CM and AOKP always had issues despite the devs hard work. My advice to the OP is to buy the GNex now and swap it next year for a new Nexus next year when prices of those have dropped. That's what I will be doing. In 23 months of Android I have had 6 different phones, but this is easier to do in GSM land.

To the OP- I have both phones. I got the G note at the beginning of the year, but switched to tmobile and it was not too reliable then. I got the G nexus 2 months ago and love the smaller size.
I have recently gotten to test out both cameras with the ustream app- Trying to catch a mouse popping out of my stove- Arghhhh!!!!
This ustream app sends out the camera as a live feed to your computer. I used both phones on 2 different nites. I am sorry to say there is a significant difference. The G Note is a great picture. The G nexus is a step down in clarity. I can't say its blurry, but there are more details shown with the g Note. In still pictures, it seems to be fine. I wouldn't have known the difference is I didn't see it with my own eyes.
I now switch off between the phones. the radio problem has been fixed for the note on tmobile. I really love my Note, but at times the Gnex is more practical to carry around. I was able to sell an old iphone and infuse to pay for my gnex, so I could keep both
Tough decision! Good Luck!
Sorry I have not had enough experience yet with the GNex camera, but that is not so important to me and my wife can take the pictures on the Note. No regrets for me.

^^^ This is the chief reason why I kept my Sprint Galaxy Nexus rather than returning it before my 14 days were up.
I still have my HTC EVO 4G LTE, but love the Nexus. I find it much more appealing design and it feels better to hold for long calls that I can't use speakerphone on. I consider myself to be very demanding of my phones and, like every other handset I have had, I have found things with the Nexus that need to be tweaked to my liking. This is the best part of this phone. I can do that if I dig into it and learn about the design and programming. Lack of carrier "sh_tware" is an extra bonus, but that can be removed from any rooted phone with TB.

What could become my next phone?

I know this question is asked a lot...
But since the Google Galaxy Nexus came out... I wanted to have it and since I have it, I love it.
It's pure, it's solid, it's fast even though it is a shame that they told samsung to produce it
Is there any phone on the market, that is comparable to the Google Galaxy Nexus at its release?
BTW: I'm no OS-Nazi... if there are good reasons, I'd buy an Iphone or some Microsoft stuff^^

you think so?
why?
From what I hear it's pretty sick, but as you very well know the next "big thing" is right around the corner. I don't care what phone people choose, it will only stay on top for so long before being dethroned. For me, I'm going Nexus because I love pure android. No bloatware
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Yes I hate bloatware, too. But I don't look for a phone that is the best phone ever for the next 20 years. I look for a phone that has a large community, strong (my g-nexus fell out of my pocket multiple times on concrete floor... still runs like a charm) but it also feels great when you hold it in your hands... and the best thing is: I have this phone for two years now, never replaced the battery and it still runs a whole day with one charge.
Did they bring us with gorilla-glass 3 finally the thing they promised with their first revision?

I was excited for the Nexus 5, but when it came out I was underwhelmed. I got the Moto X and am very happy. Obviously the Nexus 5 has a faster processor and can be cheaper, but I honestly think the Moto X is very fast and the smaller size is a great. I got used to the Galaxy Nexus size, but a smaller phone is much nicer to use and .3" of screen size is not worth it to me. At least take a look at the Moto X, it's a nice phone.

I wholly agree with this. You will not notice it until you hold it in your hand but one-handed operation is harder on phones like the SGS3, and the Nexus 5 because it's simply a larger phone. I'm able to do so on the SGS3 but if I had to compare, it just feels better on the Moto X. I only wish I can have my own Moto X someday but the Gnex is still a good enough phone not to warrant the purchase. Everything feels better on the Moto X, I can't describe it. It's a natural upgrade to the Gnex. Also the audio amp is pretty good too so you can blast the music pretty loud while exercising.
I looked around a bit, and I find the moto droid maxx very interesting. Two days of battery-life along with a strong soc and 2GB of ram sounds amazing and it also looks very nice.
What I find really sad is the fact that I live in germany, so the moto x and the droid maxx are not available to me
Same thing for me,i'm italian

It depends on what carrier you're willing to go with. If you're under contract with, say Verizon, the nexus 5 is out of the question. If so, are you willing to change carriers to get a different phone? Or do you get unlocked phones?
