A sign of the Lumia 900 on Orange UK ? - Windows Phone 7 General

Whilst nothing has been announced yet, I did just stumble across this help page on the Orange UK website...
http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/693257
I know carriers have slipped up in the past by posting these pages early...
Here's hoping! My contract ran out the end of April so I'm primed ready to upgrade!

Nice one, you should submit that to WPCentral.

Done and they've posted it

XDA IIs - availability

I called O2 and was told the release date had been put back to the 4th November and more suprisingly they have not got a price yet.
There will be no trade in or upgrade promo from teh XDA2
R
Allegedly, I was successful in ordering one yesterday (3rd) - I was charged £279 (based on my tariff/upgrade - it does vary depending on your tariff).
However, as they had 'problems with the computers' my GM order number has not yet arrived.....
I was also told he 4th, And i rang a few times, but no stock (of corse) my last call was at 4pm and i was then told its been put back until the 9th
John
Well - it is on the O2 online shop now for £249 +min £20 a month line rental. I have a friend in O2 so I am gonna see if there is a staff deal.
R
I called the local O2 shops - they are so crap!
The one that 2 days ago said it would be in on Friday now says they are not sue in until December. Another simply said they had heard nothing about it.....jesh!!! Neither of them could give me any idea of price...
R
O2 XDA IIs is available in Hong Kong now
ROADTRIIIIIP!!!
its also available in the philippines now. Im thinking of getting it, but im already using xda2. the landscape orientation for spreadsheets and other softwares may prove to be very useful, other than that, id say the built in wifi is a welcome edition, im not a fan of the qwerty keypad though.
i was wondering also ifthis unit can support blackberry as well
i3oyi3astos,
If you could, please run to the store to play with one and in the bluetooth settings please see if they are still using the 1.0000000000000 version or if they upgraded it.
Second could you see if they have the BlackBerry client on it???
Third, take your credit card and consider it a early birthday gift
Thank you VERY much as I'm hoping they updated these two in the XDAIIs.
its on the o2 uk site.........

Last I head from Vodafone Australia is November 15 is release date here.
Uplands Mobile
I have bought one sim free from Here they have been assured by O2 today that they will be the first in the UK to stock them and that delivery will be shipped next monday.
I personally can't wait until Tuesday, this is the first phone with everything i ever wanted in one device, i am ditching my Treo 600 and palm for this little baby.
Cheers
Richard
1st post by the way
Ooooops!
sorry here is the link http://shop.uplands.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_XDA_2s.html

Hi Richard,
I got my XDA II from Uplands last year and I can't fault them, so I'd be happy to get an XDA IIs from them as well, and their prices are certainly good!
Could you let us know when you get yours? I'll be interested to see when their stock starts to come through. Gonna call them now and ask about upgrades....
Edit: update on upgrades - I could have one, but it would cost me £285 cos I'm not a particularly heavy user.
Yeah uplands are good cant go wrong with them + they are very competitive in price. Stock will be due in on monday 15th nov.. cant wait!
12th Nov
I've just spoken to a few O2 shops in London area, they either tell me they have no idea when they're due or that 12th of November is release date and not to expect anything for at least 2 weeks after then :\
I've got 4 phones due an upgrade with an O2 reseller (unfortunately not direct with O2, corporate account with CarphoneWarehouse so will probably delay things further) - itching to get my hands on one!
Does anyone have any idea when this device will be available in the Netherlands? Through one of those mobile provider? (T-Mob, Orange, Telfort?) It seems that its out in UK and Germany and some places in US and other countries, but not yet here in NL, I've checked several stores and can't find convincing replies. I am keen to check this one out.
More delays
Just spoke to Uplands - they have said -
"Yes, O2 advised us yesterday that the release of
the handsets has been delayed again, and to expect delivery by around Monday of next week {15th Nov}. Unfortunately that means we cannot yet guarantee a delivery date"
Bumsticks :\
Please post any other shops that are selling the XDA IIs.
Uplands will not ship to a US customer!
I would love to get a XDA III, but getting it in a black version would be really cool.

Has anywhere got the Orange SPV M2000 in stock!

I must have tried around 30 different shops, online retailers, Orange shops etc. but no one has the M2000 in stock and dont have a date from Orange! A lot of shops including CPW have not even heard of it. I know many people got them months ago and I have one on order with Onestop since 5th Jan but I'm getting annoyed with waiting. I would go to O2 for an XDAIIs but its £249 on the same contract as Orange have for £109!
Any ideas where I can get one?
maybe they are gonna release the M2500 instdead aka XDA IIi
Yes mate, im in exactly the same boat. been pissing me right off. I missed the last stock by a couple of hours. said theyve all sold out an hour ago, back in december! Been in contact ever since, always saying coming next week...
Last week though they said they had stock in, theyre quality checking it as had so many problems with last stock, espcially the keyboard and firm ware. once theyve been passed, they'll be getting more in bigger batches and faster, so if not on list this week, should have within a couple... Ive heard that before. im well tempted to leave orange for o2 if i dont have in mid feb. Just hope this phone is worth it.
If anyone knows anything else, like orange are leading us up the garden path, please post and inform. Ive asked numerous occasions and they said "its not discontinued, just had problems. It is coming back and is very popular"
m2000 back in stock
got mine yesterday, been waiting since early december. they are shown in stock on orange web site and orange shops are getting stock daily.
I got mine on 26 November 2004 from Orange shop in Brighton, they had two in stock then but were expecting more. You might want to try your luck there. Orange web site still says coming soon I don't know how they can sell in their shops then.
Orange shops up and down the country (business stores mainly) are refilling slowly but surely.
More stock expected throughout this coming week.
Ive managed to source 5 of them from local stores for my customers, bet you wish you had a phone trainer like me in your local that would do that for ya!
Tough work though, other shops didnt give stock up easily. Had to get rough wid em

My local A1 Comms store had the M2000 in stock, and a demo phone too which i've been playing with this morning.
Tomo in Mansfield had the MDAIII but only the display one
The Link employee looked at me and dribbled out the side of his mouth when asked about any of them (M2000, MDAIII, XDAIIs or the forthcoming VPAIII from Voda). I guess that's a no then.
www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk seems to have them all (apart from the yet-to-be-released VPA) in stock and on blinding deals too - I'm gonna go for the M2k on YP400, handset price £9.99 - friends have bought from here without trouble on many occasions too.
finally got my order from onestop after around 30 phone calls to chase it, so I have a brand new m2000 in my hands! just getting to grips with it as im used to a p900. any tips from the experts on which 'must have' software i should purchase? thanks to everyone (particularly on this thread)

Latest Update From O2 UK Support
Hate to rain on anyone's parade but Select O2 Customer Service just told me that "WM6 will not be available as an upgrade for the forseeable future. We are shipping some Orbit units that have arrived from our supplier with WM6 already installed but the majority of boxed units in O2 stores or direct from us still run WM5. Our technical department tell us that the upgrade is in the pipeline but no confirmed dates yet. I will be really suprised if it is released today because we normally get advance warning and there has been no such notice to date."
So.......... "Computer says Nooooo!"
Sigh!

oh god thats ridiculous.
why the hell was the website updated?
the page is still there!
Futher Info on WM6 Update
Ok - went into my local O2 store here in SW London and asked to see an Xda Orbit - was shown a new, unopened, boxed unit and they kindly powered it up for me and it was running WM5. However....one of the store workers showed me his own Orbit that he got two weeks ago and it was running....you guessed it....WM6 - O2 badged!
After explaining the situation to them in the shop they rang around several departments and got the "no idea what you is on about mate" reply until they called the XDA repair line who said that the WM6 software will be put on as standard to all Orbit units shipped for repair but that new units shipped from HTC since June will have WM6 as standard but older, stock units will still be WM5. They also said that they were not aware of any upgrade being released in the near future. The guy in the O2 Shop seriously stated that as I was paying for insurance to send it in for repair and they'll upgrade it anyway as de facto service!
I then proceeded to go into the nearby Maplin store as I needed some cables and the guy behind the counter saw my Orbit and asked if I liked it - he then proceeded to show me his - bought from new (from local O2 Shop) in May and it was loaded with O2 branded WM6!!!!
Errr...is it me or has the world gone nuts?! Must be global warming! Thinking of setting up a new website called "confused.com" - dammit! already gone....
The World Had Gone Mad!
Well that just about sums it up - went and had one last look at the Orbit section at O2 UK and bu**er me if the update is not there! Rang O2 SELECT and they casually said that it was always slated for release today - I then went through the previous days scenario and explained pretty much what I'd posted earlier and I could hear them shrug on the other end of the line!
Phoned the local O2 shop I had visited earlier to let them know that the update was available in case other frustrated Orbit users called in and the assistant just laughed and said "we juss work 'ere mate - they never tell us nuffink!"
Downloaded, installed and now I wait for the WM7 saga.....

Where to buy WP7 handsets in London tomorrow?

I've heard next to nothing about who/where will be stocking Windows Phone handsets at launch tomorrow morning ... the only thing I've heard is the Orange store Oxford Street will be opening at 7am.
Anybody have news on who'll have SIM free HTC WP7 handsets tomorrow??
I've been trying to track down sim-free handsets myself and the best I've come up with is the Dell Venue Pro which is available to order from Clove, for delivery on the 8th November.
It's proving to be quite difficult to find sim-free phones, especially ones with a keyboard.
No news on high-street stores selling sim-free.
This is really annoying actually...
Big announcement from Microsoft 21st October lanuch in Europe !!! but no Carriers appear to be launching tomorrow... I called Orange the MAIN LAUNCH PARTNER and they say HTC Mozart next week and Samsung Omnia (Orange name will be Cetus) by the end of October... Their STAFF HAVE NO CLUE about WP7 and no details about 8gb or 16gb memory or prices or specific dates etc etc... They just said Nokia N8 confirmed for Friday and New HTC Androids also next week... F$%K knows whats going on!! ....... really good start Microsoft !!!!
I dont know about london but i know the Orange store in london is getting both omnia 7 and the mazart in tomorrow both are 8gb. The Fareham store (town nearer to me) said they will have stock arriving today for sale tomorrow but did not know what they where getting as it depends what there sent from main office.
I have seen some sim free deals around but cant remember off my head where as i will need a contract boo to being poor lol
O2UK have the HD7 in their "Coming Soon" list. Apparently expected 21st Oct
http://www.o2.co.uk/comingsoon/hd7
I called the Orange Store in Croydon they have no idea if WP7 handsets will be there tomorrow....
Thanks for all your replies - sadly it doesn't look like I've missed any launch day availability information then ... it certainly is frustrating.
I suspect pre-ordering online and waiting a few weeks for most of the handsets to ship will be the best option ... unfortunately.
Still hope to be surprised though!

What is going on with the UK release?

I was due an upgrade with O2 on 14th April. I really wanted the Lumia 900 over the 800. Unfortunately O2 said they were not stocking the 900 and to upgrade through another retailer.
On their advice I pre-ordered with CarPhoneWarehouse who promptly took £40 for the handset.
The so called UK release date (14th May) has been and gone and apparently Phones 4 U have fulfilled orders for Orange and Vodafone yet I've not seen anything that suggests this is true. O2 customers however, are being kept in the dark.
Carphone Warehouse said the handset was 'expected for delivery on the 25th May'. That has now changed to the 28th May.
Phones 4 U employees on the other hand have been coming up with all sorts of excuses on their forum;
Firstly, they said the delay was down to "O2 testing the handsets and these orders could not be fulfilled until this was complete".
Naturally many people complained to O2 only to be told this was untrue and they were not testing the Lumia 900.
Phones 4 U then retracted this statement and are now sating the delay is down to this, and I quote;
"We can only apologise for this continued delay. As you may already be aware, the delay is due to a rather unprecedented licensing dispute between O2 and Nokia in relation to the sale of the Nokia Lumia 900.
In short, retailers have not been given permission to supply their customers with this device on the O2 network and we still await an estimated time for the dispute to be over. Because of this, we regret that we are unable to provide you with a time of despatch concerning your order."
Nowhere else on the internet has suggested any such dispute. O2 are proving to be useless when enquiring about this and Carphone Warehouse are not responding to my emails about the delay which suggests they are being inundated with similar queries.
Meanwhile, those waiting for O2 orders are likely to miss out on the offer of free headphones and apps for pre-ordering.
This is an utter shambles. People are clamouring for the Lumia 900 but can't seem to get it! What are Nokia / MS playing at?

Hmmm....interesting story. I've read about this in several places over on this side of the pond, and they all say the same thing. Supply and Demand. The Demand in the USA has been so high, they have delayed the shipments else where. No testing, no licensing, just demand.
Only one of your comments I could possibly believe is the one about the licensing problem. Obviously, Nokia requires some kind of agreement to sell hte device. That could make some sense, but how unlikely is a licensing agreement subject to fail, just a day or so before release, especially when this is not the original release country. But testing...that ship has sailed.
So, if it is just supply and demand, the only thing Nokia and MS are playing at, is Money. And I would be more likely to believe that Nokia controls the distribution....not MS.
Why would licensing be an issue?
Maybe if O2 were going to stock it directly they would need to come to an agreement, but I'm talking about external retailers here
Vodafone also do not carry the 900, yet you can walk into Phones 4 U, select the Lumia 900 and choose a Vodafone tariff and apparently walk out the store with it.
However, you can't choose an O2 tariff and do the same.
What does the carrier have to do with what handset a retailer sells with a contract?
Do these places not just have X amount of generic stock? The customer then just picks the handset, their carrier and tariff and a sale is made?
Why would Phones 4 U or Carphone Warehouse need permission from O2 to sell a specific handset on their service?

NO idea. But I would wager that some kind of agreement exists for the distribution of devices....be in O2, Vodafone, or the store on the cornor. But, I could be wrong...probably am. I never said it was true, I just said it was believable...to me
I would have thought any distribution agreement would be between the manufacturer and the retailer. Ie, I'm sure Carphone Warehouse et al have agreements with Nokia to sell their handsets, which it would appear they do as they're advertising them.
Likewise they obviously have agreements with the networks to sell their services.
What network those retailers choose to sell those handsets on should entirely be up to the retailer should it not? At least, you would expect that to be the case.
If they want to sell one product together with another product I don't see how anyone else has a say in it.
ETA:
Well, it seems the poster who received the email about a dispute between O2 and Nokia has had another response from Phones4U;
"I fear my being a pain is the only way to get a response - a senior account manager has phoned to apologise for the email I got (copied above), apparently its complete rubbish and shouldn't have been sent.
He's going to call me tomorrow, with an update from P4Us discussions with o2 & Nokia - even if its a "we've heard nothing". He's also going to try and clarify the position on the freebies...
Ain't going to stop me asking awkward question, especially of o2... or indeed copying tech twitter feeds into my disgruntlement.
I'm normally an easy customer - I pay my bills, I deal with most problems myself... I really don't like poor customer service though!"
Danmoz,
I've been following the threads on the O2 and P4U forums and I'm as frustrated as you are. I've been happy with O2 for 15 years but if I can't get the 900 I have to decide whether to settle for an 800 or switch network.
I don't understand why O2 would refuse to stock Nokia's flagship phone if they already sell the 710 and 800? That doesn't really seem to make sense unless it really is just a stock issue.
I was told in a P4U store that the reason they couldn't sell me a phone on O2 was because O2 were having some sort of trouble with their software and couldn't get the 900 to work with it or something. Sounded phoney just like all their other excuses. I suspect they never were able to sell them on O2 and have only had them exclusively until the 27th on other networks, perhaps on the 28th both retailers will then have them for O2 but P4U don't want to admit that.
I had one on order from phones4u O2 on&on since 12th April, But after them letting me down with excuse after excuse & not getting any valid reasons I have now cancelled, There is no point promising a delivery date when O2 know nothing about it all, Having to suffer a Lumia 800 for now until I can buy a 900 sim free for the right price lol.
The poster on the P4U forum says Phones 4 U are now going back to the 'it's in testing at O2' excuse and say they 'should be complete by 26th - 27th'.
I suspect that P4U had exclusivity for a week and fulfilled their orders for other networks first and are now awaiting new stock. It's also possible that other retailers will be able to sell it from the 28th onwards but none of them will dmit this. P4U don't want to admit it in case people cancel and go elsewhere, CPW don't want to admit it in case people cancel and try to get it earlier from P4U.
CPW have claimed they are just waiting on stock and I'm more inclined to believe them after all the BS excuses P4U have come out with so far.
Also, that excuse about 'trouble with software' from P4U, how so exactly? It's a glorified Lumia 800, if the 800 works fine on O2 why wouldn't the 900?
The interesting thing to note is the post from someone from O2 who said that O2 themselves will not have the 900 but "you can get this through the CPW if you wish". Why not "you can get this through P4U or CPW if you wish"? Is the whole thing just P4U telling customers anything they can think of to stop them cancelling and going to their competitor?
Maybe the dispute is with O2 and P4U and P4U arehoping people will choose another network. CPW could have no such issue and be well on track to ship for 28th
Meanwhile, O2 Germany will be stocking it next week;
http://wmpoweruser.com/nokia-lumia-900-coming-to-o2-germany-next-week-2/
I think you all missed a crucial piece of information that was given 2 weeks ago, which is that the Lumia 900 (not just the white one) is exclusive to Phones4u until May 27th.
On that basis there is nothing wrong happening here with other shops and networks not stocking the phone. On a side note, many people don't know that if you go instore rather than online, you can get it sim free from P4u (£459) or even on PAYG. As for the issue with O2, I know they were in some sort of dispute with Nokia so I wouldn't know if/when this will be sorted. Maybe time for a change of provider

http://nokiapoweruser.com/2012/05/10/lumia-900-available-in-uk-exclusive-to-phones4u-till-27th-may/
Just received email confirmation from CPW that my order has been dispatched;
Thank you for ordering from The Carphone Warehouse.
We've processed your order and we'll be dispatching it from our warehouse very soon. You can track the progress of the delivery using the link below:
If P4U had exclusivity until the 27th why did they not just tell their customers that and why did they not fulfill any orders on O2? Why all the lies about O2 testing it, O2 and Nokia dispute, CPW 'talking rubbish' about having it out for delivery this Monday?
This Monday is the 28th
That doesn't answer my question?
If Phones 4 U had exclusivity then;
1) Why did Phones 4 U not fulfill any O2 orders?
2) Why are Phones 4 U claiming that O2 are testing the handset and it won't be released on O2 until this is complete
3) Why did Phones 4 U claim there is a dispute between Nokia and O2 meaning the handset couldn't be sold on the O2 network
4) Why are Phones 4 U saying that Carphone Warehouse are 'talking rubbish' that they (CPW) will be sending out orders for delivery on the 28th?
Does that make more sense? These seem rather underhand tactics for a large retailer such as Phones 4 U and I would be surprised if they weren't libellous.
@ danmoz98, did you receive your Lumia 900 from CPW yet? I managed to order one and got similar email saying its been despatched today Mon 28th, Just interested to see if I get mine tomorrow, Was saying in stock for O2 orders on the website so fingers crossed.
Went into a CPW store today and they say they can do it on O2 according to their system, they don't have them in store yet but can order them. I want to hear that somebody on O2 has one in their possession first!
Yes, mine arrived this afternoon. Quite happy with it, the screen looks so much nicer than my HD7.
One thing MS really needs to sort out on WP7 is some form of app manager. When migrating from my HD7 to the Lumia it was a right pain in the ass trying to find the correct apps I had paid for. I have some vague recollection there's a 3rd party app that does this but damned if I can remember what it's called.
Also, my Lumia 900 is only 16Gb so I guess we have to wait till the german release to see if that rumour is true.
My girlfriend tells me that there were in fact queues outside one of the CPW stores in London today for this phone and people were able to walk out with them (after paying for them, obviously).
@ danmoz98 The app I use to get my apps back is reinstaller which is free and works quite well, Glad you are happy with it, Still waiting for mine but just got a text from CPW saying its on its way.
Just been delivered and ordered it Sunday night so not bad going, Hats off to CPW for actually providing it, Phones 4u can fester in their own nothingness, Phone is nicer than I thought and not too heavy, Couple of extra settings for calls and sms and of course Tango installed, Time will tell if it's as good as the Titan and Lumia 800.
here is the UK version.. much better without a carrier logo on the front.
