AOKP Tablet UI? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to create or fake out an AOKP rom to get the tablet UI without the 128 dpi which is sooooooo small? I would love to see it around 188 dpi. Anyone know?

Not possible, someone from my thread recommended an app from the market called Big Font so check that out.

Ummm I just set mine to small on m5 and the option to set to huge was still there so idk why it wouldn't be possible unless you're not looking at the same settings as I am
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

You know I had the font set at huge and that looked better then not but the notification bar and other menus were real small and harder to grab then I would like. I even set the from controls to adjust the size of the notification bar but it didn't seem to make a big difference, ill have to check out that extra large font program but I wonder if it will help the clicking spaces.

All you need is big font from the market, dpi set to 128 to activate tablet mode, then in big font, change its settings to 130% and you keep the tabletUI interface and everything is easier to read..

"huge font" ??? I've actually been digging 140DPI lately....I wouldn't go huge but I would go a little bigger at 128DPI...but not much.
This screen really does amaze me at times...140 just seems insane, but, after an hour or two it's awesome. Sure, you gotta hold the phone a little closer and using it while at a stoplight or, gasp, driving is completely out of the question...but My first computer couldn't even do the then-highres 640x200 mode. As long as the fonts are readable and not insanely blocky or obfuscated (font choice is key here) it's fnckin' fine.
IMHO, YMMV, ETC

Wait if I start at 128 then move to 130 it will stay with the tablet UI? Will it go further because I thought I failed at 140? Any font suggestions? Apps? Why can't I be a dev and be able to make this happen, lol. I just want a bigger tablet UI... is that so much to ask? Haha.

You can adjust the font size for the statusbar in ROM control settings, under general statusbar I believe. Made it perfect to me, but everybody has a slightly different preference

Yup, 128 or lower is necessary for Tablet UI.

Here are the screenies of the larger font settings (system settings large) with a custom font installed which makes all the difference IMHO. Also perfect keyboard free which works really well with tablet UI.

My photon did that when I went under 190, I don't know what causes that. Here's me at 160. I'd just leave it at 200 with startburst or flash a ROM that lets you run 160 if you really want it.
Hm, that's weird. Well I suppose I'll try flashing caulkin's and see if that fixes it. what rom are you using at the moment?

Smaller fonts, smaller icons, more information on screen. Also makes it not look like an interface for legally blind children.

Touchwiz doesn't scale. Period. Use another launcher or find a version from a galaxy note and match the dpi setting.
Launcher7 is fun and confuses people. Launcher pro is fast and smooth as it gets. ADW/ADWex are uber configurable.

That is exactly what it is like. Of course it can't actually change the screen resolution, but, it has the same effect as doing that on your PC. (Which got me thinking, why didn't any OS have a an OS wide 'scaling' option independent of screen resolution?)
I just edit my build.prop, though you can also you Density Changer or Blade Buddy and I'm sure there are many other apps out there that do it for you.
Of course you will need to be rooted to do any of this.

Thanks, I like it. It seems that 210 is the sweet spot for me. Only problem is that the dialer doesnt scale that well. Oh well, small price to pay.
Use go dialer, it looks great.
i swore by this with my epic 4g, and it was the very first thing i did when i got the touch....
but the little time i spent with it at normal, i started to realize that the phone was more reponsive. letters in the different keyboards i used seemed to pick up better and moving around felt more fluid, and i got the same ghosting thing you got on a different rom and i just kinda gave up
i admit that it could just be in my mind though, it could also be that using a secondary dialer and launcher may be slowing things down. what i do is use the 'font size' app and just decrease the size of the text leaving the icons and everything the same. would like it smaller though, would any of you happen to know an app that changes the size of the font alone?

[App] Rom Toolbox Love

Do any of you use Rom Toolbox? I have the paid version and it is awesome. Love that i can change notification, battery, and wifi icons as well as use a conservative governor which really helps my battery. I would say its a great app. My phone is loaded with awesome colors hehe. Anyone else use it?

I love being able to theme the status bar. You can't use all of the icons for the battery, you have to use the 1% icons....the others wont work right unless your original battery icon does not have percentage.
I am using the ICS theme with UnNamed rom and now everything is that awesome blue color with pink and purple throughout by using the theme manager to change some things. If they work on it enough, it could be like the CM7 TMobile ThemeChooser app as far as theming goes. It is a very cool app.
I've been on the fence about purchasing the paid version, mainly to be able to change the color of the status bar icons. Don't know if it's worth $5 just for that, but the app in general is awesome so I'll probably pick it up to donate.
i use this all the time especially to change fonts!!
I was able to make this happen. Lol.

I tried changing my battery icon and my phone freaked out after reboot. Alot of other things seem to work but I'm afraid to change any themes or icons.
I'm afraid also because this is an app that multiple phones can use.
You start getting bad stuff happen when changing random things. Most of these ROMs have built in theme options.

If you have a battery mod already that does 1% increments, then only use the ones in the toolbox that are 1%, then reboot when it's done. Hopefully that helps a little.

Thoughts after a few days with my SG2

Well - after a few days of playing with the phone, I think I'm going to keep it. It's not perfect, but the screen is great, and the 4g data speeds are awesome and only supposed to get better. The only other phone I want would be an iphone, but I can't justify the downgrade in data speed! Love Android, but as a mac user there's something attractive about the unity of it...think I might get an ipad and just steal the SG2's 4G I gotta say though, not sure if it's from using Sense for a long time or what, but I do not see what the deal is with Touchwiz. Aside from the neat effect of dragging your finger over the window indicator to zoom between screens, I can't discern one special thing about it. Decided to throw Go launcher on the phone and have been much happier so far. The phone is a beast though. Once I decide 1000% to keep it I'll root and see what's what.
When cm9 hits (hopefully) I'll be all over that.
wish i felt like you did about the phone, except the iPhone part I've had one and thought it was a POS but that's another story. I came from the sensation and the amaze 4g and I really miss my amaze the camera is just superior and the resolution is hard to get use to after having qhd I just can't stand how big font is mainly. I do like touchwiz alot though and the slimness and speed of this phone is incredible I'm torn about this phone right now.

If you're using AOKP, when you're on the crop screen after selecting the file, move the selection box to the top left, then expand it as large as it can go. That way, the icon will be applied at the correct size.

way to trick apps to think the phone is a tablet?

it's there a way to trick apps to think this phone is a tablet?
like "log me in ignition" has a way better interface in tablets than on phones which would work on this phone well... I'm just wondering if there is a way to make the app think this is a tablet?
would also help in other apps... not going to make a list

I'm sure you could root and edit the build prop to make the play store think it's a tablet

wouldn't build.prop edit break other things like wallet (when we get it)?

you can change the build.prop lines that say ro.sf.lcd_density to whatever you you want. 160 is wayyy too small and the status bar will FC on you. I'm trying 240 right now. Everything seems good so far, but this may cause issues with apps or the Play Store down the road.
You must be rooted to change these values. Also, there are 2 places that you have to change this value. Why? No idea. There shouldn't need to be more than 1 entry for LCD density in the build.prop. so change both, save, and reboot.

Yes, that's part of it. Apps read off that, Play Store uses the "fingerprint" in build.prop as well
I'd like to revisit this question. I used Titanium Backup to get a copy of the apk from my tablet. Any suggestions on how to get the Note II to take the apk? Is there a setting on the phone that I can change or do I need to modify the apk?
Thanks
Viper,
I've been attempting to do the 240dpi mod and never really succeeded. If you'd be kind enough to sort of write a step-by-step instruction you'd definitely help a brotha out!
Thanks

The paranoid hybrid Rom gives way to adjusting each individual app to the size you want it and ability to phablet/tablet etc..

The DPI change really turns this phone from great to amazing.
Here is a walkthrough on how to change the dpi: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993530
Keep in mind that it will mess some of your stock apps up since they aren't made for the resolution. You can either install other programs to use in place of the stock ones or you can flash these resized stock ones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001143
Good luck on it and be sure to nandroid backup before you do anything. Also be sure to hit the "thanks" button to the OP's on those links. Without them, our phones wouldn't nearly look as good =)

Is there a way to do this without root because uh, I don't want to sound like a noob but I have a zoppo zp998 and its a Chinese phone, and other is no help out there to root it because not many people know what they are. I can't work out how to do it myself because in recovery mode everything is written in Chinese. The screen is 5.5" and I think this tricking it into thinking it's a tablet would be a great way to get full use out of the screen, problem it is I also can't flash a ROM or boot a tablet kernel because of the whole Chinese thing..
