So I know that the Galaxy Nexus has horrible GPS. But I thought I had read somewhere that there's a fix for it. Would anyone be able to show me how to do it or point me to the right direction? I did a search but I couldn't really find it. I'm running MIUI 2.4.27. Thanks.
Try the gps app FasterGPS (download via google play).

Wasn't aware it had terrible GPS, never had a problem. You could always use an app like GPS Test and clear/redownload a-GPS, etc. to try and help out.
its something wrong with your phone, ive never had a problem with teh gps. try to clear the cache of whatever gps program you are using or reinstall MIUI maybe it was a bad flash.
Never had any GPS problem here. Where did you read that? My phone usually gets a fix within 7 seconds with up to 15 satellites.

Seems that i can't get a fix if i'm moving, and it takes around 30+ seconds for me to get a fix..
Have to say I love my Gnex, but have not had the greatest GPS experience either. I've been in clear sky and can't get a lock quite a few times. If it were a little worse I would think there is a real problem.
I wouldn't say my GN GPS is horrible. It may be not the best I had but I have not had a situation where I need to use it and it not work. Every single time I needed the navigation or map feature it worked as needed. My only complaint is my Verizon weak 3G coverage. But that's another issue. lol. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons with this device.

No GPS issues here, I work for a company who has me working in multiple states and I use the GPS religiously. Maps and Copilot have worked flawless on this phone. I punch in around 40 to 50 coordinates a day every day seven days a week and not one issue. Really impressed with this phone. A lot better than my Nexus S or my crappy Vibrant. Compared to my Nexus One its on par or better. Maybe its your Rom or something else, could be a bad phone.

when you experience problem with gps a phone reboot will made your day
I get a fix in 2-3 minutes if i don't use the gps for a week.
If i use it twice a day, i get it in 20 sec.
I use my GNex without internet. A-GPS loads positions from satellites from the internet to get faster fix. (I don't know, if GNex has a-gps or if you can add that with an app)
The impresicion is 5m on my GNex
Garmin eTrex get the fix earlyer if i didn't use it for a while
My GPS is great, smokes my old Desire S at getting a lock, WAY faster
My GPS has been flawless too. But you can't expect a whole lot on a very cloudy day...

Seems that my gnex need sometime to get a fix even though the sats are there.
I tried it again today morning and it's VERY accurate. Google Maps need data connection initially to get a fast fix(really fast, maybe 10 seconds + considering this is not a dedicated GPS device). Without data it takes around 30 seconds to lock.

GPS is fantastic. By far the best i have seen on a smartphone to date (I'm making a comparison between the Desire HD, SGS2, Desire & iPhone)
GPS connects in between 2 & 5 seconds and i have not had a dropped signal using Navigator.

I agree. No issues with GPS. locked to within 40 meters from inside a restaurant and once out side got a much closer lock right away. Tested using GPS Status and Google Maps.
Does the nexus use the glonass satellites like the galaxy note? Could someone please run GPS test or something similar and see if it uses sats in the 70's range, as well as the regular 1 - 24.

My Nexus has a much better GPS than my N900 or HTC Kaiser, although it seems to have difficulty indoors AND you have to enable the wifi to get a better signal putting further strain on the battery.
It also adds almost an extra km to my 13.7 (now 14.5) daily commute. Is this like the 'measuring the coastline of Britain' fractal paradox?

Is that using just pure GPS or A-GPS?
This alone would get me to upgrade from Nexus S.
How's the GPS inside a partially obstructed view like a bus or something? My Nexus S takes like 2-5 mins.

I've never seen a Samsung phone lock it's GPS under 5 meters. Then again i've never had a GS2.
That is disappointing.

I guess if it locks really quickly I can be satisfied with that. I honestly feel that there is something wrong with Samsung's GPS chips and rather than trying to fix it, they added a barometer to help

Can you lucky bastards with one of these in hand post some GPS test screen shots please? And overall GPS performance ....I'm an owner of a vibrant and need a working navigation phone ...also does vzw let u use Google maps or is there some fee for using GPS?

Yeah the GPS on the iPhone probably ALWAYS on or something.
GPS is really important to me but so far I've been able to get a strong quick lock indoors. Haven't tested the navigation yet.

Navigation is great. It takes about 30-45 seconds initially to figure out its compass direction and then it's perfect from there.

Apple hand picked their hardware for a reason. Android devices have to follow in line with "But are there drivers for Android yet? If so, we'll just go with this GPS module."
Plus, ICS should be a lot quicker polling for GPS anyways. It's probably mostly OS related.
Went out to my backyard to attempt my first GPS lock on the phone. Took about 5 sec for a full lock with multiple sat. (Not complaining, since my g2x would take like 40 sec.)

It has a barometer, which helps with super-fast GPS lock. Even indoors (google indoor maps for malls, etc, is useful finally).
Just installed GPS Status, instantly locked and went from about 15m to 10m in a second.
It's overcast/rain and that's from my screened in porch. It got 9/9 sats right away.
The best from the same location/clear day with a charge or bionic is 5m.... but that's waiting for a while and holding it still.

2 weeks ago i was in spain (Teneriffa) for one week and it needs between 5 and 10 minutes to get a signal and lost it every 10 or 15 minutes...

Takes forever to get even a mediocre lock
VERY inaccurate - usually around ~30m at best
Loses lock
I thought maybe it was just my device, but i met a couple the other day who both own the Verizon version, and they were running ICS, so i ask them if i could run a few tests, and to my surprise, both of their phones were just as bad as mine. Ive heard a crappy GPS might be a JB bug, and will be fixed with the next update - but they were both using 4.04 - so no jellybean bug there.
Basically - for me the GPS is unusable, because if you cant count on it, whats the point. I had a doctors appointment the other day, and luckily i knew the general direction - because by the time the GPS kicked in, i was getting off the highway. I was about to just type in directions manually, and then just find the place like that. Maybe samsung just sucks at making GPS's (i used to own a captivate )
I also have started using endomondo to track my runs, and even that sucks. I started and stopped at the same point on my street, but according to the app, i stopped running about 30m short of where i actually did. (GPS gave out, or just never realized that it moved.)

Voted 4. I geocache, so I need a decent GPS receiver. Since the "Great Nexus GPS Outage" a week or two ago, the GPS has been adequate. It locks within about 15 seconds, and the lock has good accuracy. Lately I have noticed that even a "warm" lock takes 10-15 seconds. Warm locks should be basically instant.
I'm in the habit of launching GPS Status and allowing it to download the assistance data and get a lock before using other GPS apps. Not sure how much it helps.
Yesterday my data connection was unbelievably slow and GPS accuracy was awful. I had nearly full bars of HSPA reception, and 9 good satellites, so it didn't make any sense. Rebooting fixed that, thankfully, but it was odd that both features degraded at the same time.
I do wonder if the GPS subsystem relies on communication with some site on the 'net. Maybe that would explain why the "Great Outage" affected only Galaxy Nexus devices and not others. During that outage all of my Garmin handhelds and several other Android devices got decent locks in good time, while the GNex took ten minutes to get a poor lock.

This whole situation reminds me a lot of the galaxy s1 bs that i went through. The gps clearly sucked but some defended it. People came up with a bunch of hacks that did basically nothing, and the problem was never fixed.
How is it possible that the flagship android phone has terrible gps ? How are developers supposed to design apps on it that use gps? I think the nexus s was the same way. Wtf Google. I might be returning this if it's not fixed completely with the next official update. According to whoever i talked to in customer service, should be within a few weeks.

I usually get a GPS lock in under 10 seconds if outdoors and under 30-ish seconds indoors.
Outdoors, I typically get an accuracy within 10 feet. Indoors, it can get a bit worse, but is still usually within 30 feet.
I've never had the GPS lose lock.
Voted 4. GPS locks come pretty fast for me. Accuracy is also OK, but it does lose its lock once in a while during a bicycle trip. I do have the phone in my pocket, to be fair I should test it when it has a clear view to the sky (mount it on my steer or something).
4-5 for me. It works pretty good for me and acuuracy is there.

I can't use navigation it says Google Navigation can not be used in this location (Turkey)
I can just take rooting.
Used yo be really good but since the outage its been crap. It'll get a lock and give me directions but then randomly it thinks I'm two blocks away and start rerouting. This happens a lot.

I travel a lot with the Nexus GPS. It serve me well all the time. Takes about 10 seconds to locate and never loose signal. I give it a 5.
I have no need for the GPS and such but I decided to open the navigation app and boot the gps, i waited for 3 minutes with the screen saying waiting for location till i just gave up and shut the gps back down
Voted 4/5. Out of the box, it took forever to lock and even then was only hitting on 4-6 satellites. My previous phone (Epic 4G) was notorious for this as well. Used GPS Status and all is well again (lock usually within 5 seconds).

I am a car parts driver and i constantly need the use of my GPS one thing i noticed about the Gnex is that, the GPS VARIES ON the phone provider and plan you have the faster and beter your mobile network the better your GPS WILL work for you! NOW the reason i gave the Gnex a 4 star is because even with 2G edge networks the gps will work while driving within a minute but the process will lag a bit longer not due to finding the direction either but due to locating the gps signal..

There is no real problem with GPS fix but the gps signal is worth ... precision is 15 or 25 meters. My wife with her Motorola atrix dont have GPS problem !!!
The navigation is lost to many time
Test with stock and fransco kernel. Ans with stock JB and CM9...

It's hardware problem, i also tried all latest roms and kernels and the result is the same. My problem is very difficult loc with the sats. i can see different number between 8-11 sat but loc is forever and accuracy is 5 meters. for example my old nexus one loc for 3-15 sec outdoor @ 2 meters. and indoor 5-30 sec. @ 10-15 meters. The GPS of Gnex is shame. I'm very disappointed from Samsung.

But I've had GPS problems before... sometimes it takes waaay too long to find a lock, sometimes it can't find it at all within the first day of flashing a rom. I would recommend trying a different rom. The GPS worked for me decently well with Vicious AOSP and is working flawlessly now on CM. As I said before, I used to have issues with it right after flashing a new rom and would have to leave the GPS on for a while before it eventually found it (sometimes like 30 minutes) but after that it would always get a lock relatively quick. I haven't flashed any GPS fix or anything like that. Hope that helped.

Concerns me, as I am an avid GPS user, especially when searching locations via Google Now.
On my v10 Id have to reboot sometimes, as it wouldnt get a lock or loose gps signal too often to be reliable. So far its been better once I disabled the Qualcomm IZat low power location estimation feature.

Dude GPS is amazing on the xl. I had to get my v10 replaced FOUR times because the GPS failed on every one of them. Just stopped working completely.
Works fine here, seems to be very accurate
GPS seems to be working fine on Maps, but sometimes its a bit jumpy while using Waze. It tries to recalculate my route every so often, even if im simply cruising on the freeway. It gets pretty annoying especially since it keeps doing the recalculation noise. Think it may just be a bug with Waze.
I use waze for 70+ miles a day some days. Seems to work fine.
This has been my biggest issue with Android phones. Every Android phone I've ever had has had GPS issues. Mind you they were all Samsung phones though. First was the S4 which I exchanged once for another S4 because of GPS not working, and the replacement eventually had GPS problems too. After that I had a Note 4. This was basically a repeat of the S4. Exchanged it once for another Note 4 and the GPS never worked right in any of them. After the Note 4 I went to an iPhone 6s+. Don't really care for iOS in general compared to Android, but the GPS never let me down on the iPhone.
Although I haven't used the GPS in my Pixel XL much yet, I feel confident that it will work. Mostly because back when I had all those crap Samsung phones I would end up using my Nexus 7 tethered to the phone for my GPS needs. It always worked. So the Pixel basically has the same DNA as the Nexus line of devices and conventional wisdom tells me that the GPS should work ok.
GPS is about the same as any other phone for me.
I haven't used it much though, not yet.
Pull myself up on maps.google and I can see it wandering around my neighborhood like all other phones do.
Eventually, like all other phones, it settles down as it contacts more GPS satellites and pinpoints my location.
And just like every other phone, it gets my location wrong by about 30' or so.
So.... the GPS is nothing special.

Might have to replace the phone... Need to call Google support and see what they say

I had the issue with Waze and maps not getting a lock and intstall GPS status seemed to fix it. I recalibrated and let it get a lock and it's worked since.
Insanely, unbelievably good. Quickest fix (in device-only mode, which is the only mode I ever use) and best indoor performance of any Android device I've ever owned.

To answer my own query, since I got my xl I've been running navigation home without an issue, taking alternate routes and purposely not following recommended routes it works great so far.
Does anyone have issues with the compass pointing the wrong direction in Maps?

Yeah I do, I've even had me traveling backwards.
Haven't resolved it yet...
