pls help, stock browser apk needed for defy w/froyo - Defy General

Hello all,
to make a long story short - after something got screwed up with a stock browser after numerous installs/reinstall of other browsers - I have decided to reinstall it. Made a backup with Titanium and uninstalled. However, it failed to restore the apk, when I tried that later. I searched the internet, but none of the available apk's work..
So, I would be extremely grateful if someone could copy and attach here the original browser apk and the browser.odex files (from what I have read, I simply have to place them into the /system/app folder and set the correct permissions).
Thank you all in advance.
My phone is a rooted defy with stock Froyo
version.34.177.3MB525.Retail.enGb
fw. 2.2.2
build no. JOREM_U3.4.2_177-3

If you have made a nandroid backup extract it from there and push it to system/app and give the right permisions. Otherwise go to data/app copy it from there and do the same

Deleting System Apps

Rooted using Unrevoked. Have Root Explorer installed and Titanium. I know the system apps are in the folder: System/Apps When using Root Explorer I don't have the options. To uninstall the apps bit I can delete them. However, after deleting them the programs are still there. Same thing happens when I try to do it with Titanium. Is there something I'm overlooking?
System Apps do not get installed/uninstalled. Deleting them is all you need to to. However, since it appears you are still running the stock ROM you need to make sure you delete the corresponding odex file too.
I only had the stock ROM for about a day before I rooted and installed a different ROM (which was deodexed). BUT, I recall reading that both files need to be deleted.
I suggest that instead of deleting the files place them in a backup folder just in case you might need them later on. As mentioned before you must move the APK and its associated ODEX file if it has one. Sprint applications tend to be updated so uninstall the updates then move the Sprint applications using the aforementioned method.

so i have to move the sprint apk files and odex files (if applicable) before I can delete them? I already tried deleting them w/o backing them up or changing their location but they keep coming back!

Are you mounting the apps folder with "rw" privileges before deleting?
Yes, I am. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. I swear to god these ****ing apps come right back after I reboot the phone. I delete them with Titanium and/or Root Explorer and after a little while they pop up again. I have no idea what is going on. I rooted with Unrevoked 3.21...maybe something didn't go right?
I also can't get BusyBox to install which is a major pain in da ass because so many apps need it

*Broken Market....HELP*

Peace All,
While editing some PNG's in notification/status bar I somehow broke my MARKET app. I checked system/app through Root Explorer and the files are still there...but I Market doesn't show up in my app drawer. Can someone tell me how to restore my market back on phone?
Thanks in advance,

Well, you can try opening the original zip of your rom and put vending.apk back in system/apps with Root Explorer. Or, next time (before you start messing around with stuff) make a nandroid backup so if something breaks, you have a system restore point of everything. Hope it works out for ya.

Peace zmag...
You're right---here's how i fixed it:
-apparently while I was pulling/pushing files thru ADB I neglected to realize that since Google started updating their stock apps (like Gmail, Market etc) they moved files from data to system. In my case while I was ADB pushing files that I was editing icons on back to data--I also should have been ADB pushing them back into system as well (which I forgot to do when I edited icon files from the Market---which ultimately broke my link to Market)
So what i did was follow suggestion from zmag and thru Root Explorer I found the vending.apk in data and long pressed it and selected "move" (making sure I was mounted as RW) and then went into the system location under app and then pasted the vending.apk there. I then rebooted the phone--and link was then RESTORED.
Still learning this thing---a year ago I would have never been able to edit icons through ADB and my PC--its not as hard as I thought it would be (a little tedious though--and there was probably a better/easier way to do it---but I still got to my desired goal)
hoped this helped any "newbie" (like myself)

[Q] How to recovery the original Text Messaging app?

I have just installed the Pays-ROM Defy v6.0 Froyo with Ginger feeling in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943258.
I don't want to use the mms.apk(I cann't remember its name accurately) and delete it, but now I donn't have a text messaging app. So could you please tell me how to recovery it?
Thanks a lot!
BTW, I cann't find a file manager in the ROM.
if you deleted it, youll have to get it from someone else, or you could do a nandroid backup, re install pays ROM and copy the app to your memory card using root explorer or similar, then restore your old backup and install the apk from your memory card

I have got the app folder from CG39.smg, but I don't know which app is for the Text Messagings.
I tried copy Conversations.apk and Conversations.odex to "SystemAppBackup" folder (I have SystemApp Remover installed), and then used SystemApp Remover' recovery function but it didn't work.
Try with Messaging.apk and Messaging.odex. (you can copy those files in your /system/app folder also using adb if you have Android SDK installed on your computer)
Currently I am at work and I don't have the usb cable with me, but when I'll get home I'll send you those files (if you don't get them by then)
Im pretty sure the app needed for sending sms' and settings is something like mms.apk, ill have a look in my system folder for ya
EDIT: yeah im pretty sure its mms.apk, id post mine up for you, but im on cyanogen so itd be a different app.

I tried in this way but the yaffs explorer I used cann't access the root under the Pays-ROM Defy v6.0, which works well under other stock rom. And before I found Root Explorer I have flashed another stock rom because I couldn't wait to stay with a rom cann't send and receive text message. Maybe the mms.apk is also OK.
Sorry for my poor English.

[GUIDE] To fix 4.2 upgrade failures due to flashing 4.2 Apps on 4.1.2

I have been there.
Tried on the flashy and funky big brother's toys and screw it up.
I did that again with my GSM Galaxy Nexus by installing 4.2 apps like the Clock and Keyboard.
It worked great for days, only to find out my long awaited 4.2 system update fails because of actually having 4.2 apps before it arrived.
Since then I searched forums for the answers for couple of days in Galaxy Nexus forums, could not find one.
So, finally got it from Nexus 7 forum, thanks to DroidBonzai.
Here is the link to the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991026
Once I extracted the system apk and odex files for both Clock and Keyboard, I could manually upgrade using the 4.2 update zip from the posts here. Here are the files for your use. I am attaching as a .rar file, extract them and use root explorer or ES explorer to copy it to the /system/app folder. This is not a flashable zip.
- Remember to copy the odex files as well to the /system/app folder, I had to find that out on my second attempt.
- For LatinImeGoogle (Keyboard), I deleted this one extra file libjni_latinimegoogle.so under /system/lib folder. Not sure if it is required to be deleted for upgrade to work. But, this was not present in 4.1.2, got created with 4.2 Keyboard app.
Let me know if anyone needs any other apks, since I have the 4.1.2 system image, I could extract it for them. But, please expect delays.

Having some trouble
I have been having this exact problem because i installed the ported GoogleGallery.apk and I don't know how to extract the version from the 4.1.2 system image. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Keep getting status 7 error due to wrong Google gallery. I have put an older version back on but I think it is from 4.1.1 and not 4.1.2

Thanks a lot. I got the files as well as followed the links to the Linux image tool and got the other ones that I had needed. Pushed them all to my phone and installed 4.2. Much appreciated
Hey guys I put the files in system\app and did the upgrade to 4.2
Everything went smooth but now the keyboard for typing is not available, only the vocal recognition.
Under preferences I have both vocal input and keyboard cheked but only the vocal is checked in blue and there's no way I can check/uncheck the other one!
Anyone please?
Some of those files need to Go into the system/lib directory. First thing you can do is install anouther keyboard like Swift X or look for the 4.2 Keyboard install zip on some other sites. To reinstall the stack keyboard it is the LatinInmeGoogle.apk that goes in the system/app folder and the the LatinInMeGoogle.odex I also had to put the libjni_mosaic.so in the system/lib directory. Hope that helps
Temp fix for android keyboard in 4.2 update after messing with 4.1 keyboard
Ok , I have a CDMA galaxy nexus. When they made a system dump file of the nexus 4 I hurriedly got a copy of the keyboard app just like everyone else. I ran in to some problems with the 4.2 update but fixed that eventually. Now eve time the phone reboots the keyboard app always crashes. I found a temp fix for it which is to go t system/app and install the latinimegoogle.apk. this is suppose to be the keyboard apk. That gets the keyboard working again. but what I came to realize is that in the system/lib folder there are 2 so files, libjni_latinime.so and libjni_latinimegoogle.so. Is that an issue?

Need Samsung Email APK

Hi all,
Something happened to my phone and I ended up having to wipe and re-flash everything. Long story short, I did have the Samsung email 5.0.0.00400 install with the new ROM but I accidentally deleted it via TI Backup. I tried re-installing a backed up version of 5.0.0.00200 but it will not install for some reason.
I've searched around and the most recent apk I could find is 3.3.something, which I have installed now, but I'd really like to get back to the newer version. I know I can re-flash the ROM, but I've done quite a bit of setup, restoring apps and widgets, etc. at this point and I'd hate to lose all that. Figured I'd ask here before going down that road.
Could someone please be kind and link me to a stock Samsung mail app apk for version 5.0 and above?
Thank you in advance!

Hey Aaron very much appreciated! :good::good:
Still a noob when it comes to some most of this stuff. In this case odex vs deodex. I see the 2 apk files as well as all the files in the lib folder. I'm assuming the apk files install as normal? What do I do with the lib files?
Thanks again for your help!

No problem.
If your rooted, you could try just copying the folders over to /system/app. The folder gets 0755 permission and the files get 0644 permission. And then they would be system files. This should work fine, as long as the permissions are set.
Or you could just try installing them regularly.
And Then if you want maybe use Ti Backup to make them system files.
Hope that helps

Yes I am rooted. So just to talk this out before I do anything... I've looked up how to set permissions for files and folders. I have ES File Explorer and understand I can change permissions with root explorer on. I've never done this before so just to make sure I have it correct...
I would copy both secEmail_K and SecExchange folders to the /system/app folder on the phone.
Using Root explorer I would set permissions as:
Folders: rwxr-xr-x
Files: rw-r--r--
Thanks again for your help and quick responses. One more question if you don't mind, just to help me understand permissions. If the files have no executable permissions for any of the 3 classes it would seem as though they wouldn't be able to run. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding however.

I think so, attached pic. Plus make sure owner and group are root.
This is right from my phone now. So all should be good. You might not even have to change it, they might be good before.
