[Q] Official Cyanogenmod for Galaxy Gio?!?! - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

I appreciate all the hard work all our devs had done! I really do!
But it'd be a great chance for us to have an Official Cyanogenmod for Galaxy Gio.
If we do, we could have Official Lewa OS, UnOfficial MIUI GB, and lots more out there!
(And I wouldn't be so bored with my boring Gio... LOL. Plus, porting CM just doen't feel right...)
I understand that our device is not as popular as Ace (That's why they got it), but that doesn't mean anything! I checked out there website and it looks coool, with some new updates

The best place to ask for it is the cyanogenmod forum, and there is already a thread about Gio with voting for official cm.. so far no success. Btw, I don't see Ace on cm website.

I found this topic in their forum forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/22386-samsung-galaxy-gio-gt-s5660/page__hl__gio
I hope everybody send a reply in it for encouraging devs to make an official CM for our gio.

we are waiting offical cyanogen rom

Dont think anything happends with waiting..
Even the htc wildfire has official cm, I think we need to vote and spread it on cyanogen forum;, also that we already have a stable port

Good idea.
You have to vote for CyanogenMod forum.

Maybe we should write to someone who considers such petitions? Is there any?

well u must know that ace and wilsfire s had a maintainer of cm7
i dont know if official cm7 also has maintainer for gio
if so then you can get official cm7
ace also needed to wait a long time

Could you please show us the right way to contact with CM, our Master?

Why the Cyan for our Gio is so lame? Even the Galaxy Mini is already has it...

what about posting all of our statemenst why the gio should get official support here:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/22386-samsung-galaxy-gio-gt-s5660/page__st__340
to get this topic 'trending' so they will see it is a popular device..

No title
My question for this tooopic:
Why do you want offical CM?, whats wrong with the unoffical ports of phiexz and squadzone, a offical release won't differ much than phiexzs CM7

I think latest phiexz's CM7 port is pretty good.
I mean, I have had 0 problems since latest fresh install, battery lasts 2 days (smart ass v2 122/902mhz). Just had to remove ADW because app drawer lagged.
I am even considering not installing any more roms. Instead, I think I'll buy a better device.
I mean, Gio community is great, I respect all devs and if I had some more free time, I would try to develop a ROM myself, but having a girlfriend is quite a time taker...
But, Gio's hardware is kinda... crap.

Yes, all the current ports are awesome. but you can only do so much with slow hardware.....

Um, my version of CM7.2 (EDIT: it's Phiex's build number GWK74) runs perfectly fine on my Gio. Only problems: I had to disable USB debugging, as the phone kept rebooting every time I went to enable USB Mass Storage, and the Facebook app is slow as hay. But, you knew that already.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using XDA

And a offical CM wont fix that, if they will build for gio it will be (partially) based on phiexz device files&kernel

My 50 cents to an official CM:
Without any disregard to people like Phiexz, who did an awesome job on porting CM 7 to the GIO, I think that the benefit of having an official port would be, that we don't have to depend on one persons good will in continuing the development. Phiexz left this forum and from all I could get from different posts (and my own experience when trying - unsuccesful - to register for the new forum he went to), contacting him and thereby pointing out bugs or asking for help has become a lot more difficult. So if the developer of an unofficial version for whatever reason doesn't continue his work, we're left with a maybe unfinished rom and no perspective. For an official version this would be probably more unlikely to happen - IMHO.

Might Get A G2. Which ROM?

Hey guys.
I'm currently the owner of an HTC HD2 that's running a NAND installation of Android 2.3. (HyperDroidGBX)
I have a potential trade in place to give someone here my HD2 for his G2.
I was wondering if you guys could tell me what current ROM seems to be the fastest for the G2.
I'd like to do some research before I pull the trigger on the deal, and any info you can provide would be extremely appreciated. I know there's no such thing as a "Best" ROM as everyone's tastes are different, but there's usually a couple that stand out speed-wise.
Thanks!
Try CM7 nightly~

Thanks, I'll read up on that one.
What exactly is the whole "nightly" thing?
HD2 has them as well, and never understood what it meant.
nightly means it gets updated nightly.
you don't flash a new rom but every night there's a new update and changes are made to the rom
do you like HTC Sense? if so, go Virtuous
if you prefer not to have HTC Sense, then go CM7. Start with the stable build then when you're confident, go nightly.
Ultimatedroid is the fastest hands down. Any of the gingersense type roms are decent. But for smooth and fast UD is where its at regardless of what certain people might say in response to this..
Sent from my Vision using XDA Premium App
meXdroid meXperia rom definitely. Most themed and efficient. Quite smooth
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Mexdroid! It's built off CM, and has great custom theming and other tweaks.
Personally I am sticking with the stock (rooted) ROM until CM7 goes stable (and is proven as actually stable)
For me stability and all features working is paramount, that philosophy drives me to wipe every time I update, since getting everything back the way it was after I wipe is a PITA I will only update if I know that the new build will work for me for several months at a minimum.
As I understand it RC4 is almost there (there still seem to be some lingering GPS and other issues) but since the final release is likely imminent I don't want to wipe & install RC4 only to wipe again in a few weeks to install the final release.
If you don't feel the need to wipe between updates (which IMO produces instability) or you don't need 100% reliability in general I'd say go for RC4.
Dude, all roms i use r stable 98% of time. Don't stick with stock cuz u hear bad stuff. Reputable roms are daily drivers. Any problems pop up i just reboot and usually they go away. You're missing out bigtime yo
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I don't mind a few hiccups in exchange for customization.
I'm running HyperDroid GBX on my HD2 right now, and it's awesome. Really fast, stable, and generally fine for a daily driver.
Wouldn't mind something similar on the G2. Sounds like the CM7 nightly might be the one.
Although knowing me, I'd probably try a few anyway.
I like a clean look, which is why I like HyperDroid so much:

The G2 I'm getting is untouched. It's on stock ROM, no root, etc.
I've read on some threads that rooting has a high risk of bricking the phone. Is this true?
I have only done work on the HD2 so far. Plenty of experience with that, but I never really ran the risk of bricking as long as I had the right radio/ROM combo.
I used to have hd2 and develope for it now I make a close to stock gingerbread build 2.3.3 based on cm7 newest nightlys removing almost all cm stuff it is really fast and greet battery life
Use gfree method worked for me and to have less of risk don't flash enginnering boot loader. That's the only way to brick your phone

The main reason alone I install CyanongenMOD 9 on devices, is just to get ICS. Our device already has ICS so w/e, plus its probably going to mess up a lot of stuff on the tablet anyways as usual with custom ROMS.

Could you rephrase that? Install what? CM9? You will just have to flash it with CWM. You won't need to re-unlock your bootloader. It is a custom rom, not official, so your unlocked bootloader will remain unlocked.
sorry I'm writing with the google translator I mean if the unlocked bootloader will be able to upgrade to official ICS?

CM9 stuff . It's going to be like AOSP - just bare-bone ICS with CM9's extras.
it'll be faster, more customizable, and well, CM9 man.
I can say right now its faster than stock ICS leaks we've had so far. I have proof....
oh and there will be a stock CWM recovery as well. Lots of issues with the thor one weve piggy backed with.

[Q] Code Freeze for CM9

I saw this on the CM( touchpad forum. how will this effect the epic?
The CyanogenMod team has announced that a code freeze has been put into place for CM9. That would be the version based on Ice Cream Sandwich source, and it's one of the most downloaded ROM's in Android history. So what does this mean for us, the end users? It means that a release candidate (RC) is on its way, and they are in the process of squashing bugs to make it stable. The team states in its blog post that nightly builds will still happen, but they won't be accepting any code other than bugfixes, device support, and translations into the release branch.
The initial release will cover a small amount of devices initially, but other devices will be added further down the road. (The process of adding new devices should be helped along by the streamlining of certain code.) Given the large undertaking of moving to ICS, and the amount of time that has been spent on it, knowing that a release candidate is on its way should make CM fans very happy. Already running and experimental build of CM9? Be sure to share your thoughts in the forums.

It wasnt a question. It was trying to create input for an important topic to inform people of up coming events. Epic CM9 operates a little differently then other devices. Therefore it is hard to predict the effects on our epics.
I think you moving the topic was a big mistake and I have been around here for a lot longer than my current user name.

You wrote, "I saw this on the CM( touchpad forum. how will this effect the epic?" to start off the thread. Admittedly, you mostly answered your own question as well. As for throwing around that you've 'been around,' you have 2 years and more than 200 posts... If you've been around longer than that, that only cements the fact that you should know how to form a thread.
On-Topic: I'm excited to see a more polished release!
Code freeze is just a "snapshot" as apposed to a rolling video. It is taken to keep a stable version for people to build off of when they are porting in order to not get random nightly bugs and to give people something stable to stay on. If anything goes wrong, they can compare back to the last snapshot (RC branch) that it worked on.

My guess is that it's probably in the works. Everybody is really focused on cm10 right now so I would imagine when that dies down a little bit we'll start seeing more of miui and other roms.
I think the fact that there is already a MIUI rom for the international GS3 would make easier to port for our D2tmo. We are a bit behing in rom options in comparison with other US variants. No rush intended tho, just wanted to bring up the interest of us tmo users for something diff and because I haven't seen any request for this either
