I just got the Lumia 900, and everything is working fine except I cannot send/receive MMS. I am currently on the newest update, but my APN settings were not built into the phone like they should have been. I manually inputed them and the data is working fine now, but pictures still will not send. Am I the only one with this problem? If not, has anyone figured out a fix? I called both Nokia and At&t. At&t told me the issue was that I didn't have a data plan, which I do, and Nokia told me to have At&t send an APN update push to my phone. At&t said they couldn't do that. Anyway, let me know if you all know of anything that could help.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: After spending 2 hours on the phone with AT&T and Nokia, I finally got tired and called an AT&T rep that I know. She took a look at my account and realized that I had data on my account, but it was never set up with the 4G data which is why I could access the internet via HSPA or HSPA+ but couldn't get MMS. The phone was just confused. She made the change for me and it's working fine now. If you're on AT&T, just call 611 and make sure you're on an LTE plan, not just a 4G plan and see if that fixes your problem.

Something seems wonky here.
You have a Lumia 900 on AT&T with a qualifying DATA plan, and you can't get MMS.
A couple of thoughts:
What aren't you saying? Hacked? Rooted, Unlocked??? Bought it off of eBay?
Have you tried a Hard Reset with the sim in? During setup, the first indication of a setup problem is, Time Zone, Region, Time are not setup automatically. Does this happen?
Do you have an official mini sim, or is this a cut down one? Cut down ones...might not work.
Take it back to the place you bought it....do a hard reset in front of them. Does it work? By work I mean does it detect time zone, time, your number. NO, its not usual for them not to...don't believe that if they tell you that. If there is NO detection....something is wrong..either with the Sim or the account.
Have them check your account...right there...is it setup? You should NOT have to input an apn on this phone, if all of the above is correct.
I have had 2 lumia's and a Samsung Focus S since March 2nd. Each one had to have the account reset. For some reason something went wonky on the phone during setup. Dropped vm, one time it was data plan not initializing. A Quick check caught them...

I am in the same boat. Bone stock 900.
Looks like an issue with 4G. When I change my data connection to 3G MMS works as expected, change it back to 4G, no workie...
I was going to mess around with APN to see if I can get one set up that works. There is a Nokia Network Setting app that can help with this but it's not on the Market Place anymore. I've been doing some searching and this appears to occur on many different carriers with 4G. I'm in the US on ATnT, but it is happening overseas too.

Might have figured mine out, I added an APN
apn: wap.cingular
user: [email protected] (all caps)
pass: CINGULAR1 (all caps)
proxy: 66.209.11.32
port: 8080
There is not slot for MMS so I skipped that, it would be:
mmsc: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Go to settings
Cellular
Edit APN
Input the above
Save (check mark)
I then toggled in airplane mode for 30 secs and then out of it. Sent my self a MMS and it worked, sent one from my wife's phone and it worked. Both of those scenarios were failing on 4G before. PITA
That app is off the marketplace

Yes it work but..... It seemed to have reduced my data download speeds. So I deleted the APN and that got my LTE speed back.
Will toggle to 3g when an MMS fails for me. Will also start to bug ATnT about this too.

Hearing from a couple decent sources there is a fix coming soon from Nokia. Not holding my breath for today or tomorrow but I did get the same info from a couple of different sources.

I'm more convinced than ever tht LTE may not be our friend. Nokia may be finished with the beta test, but AT&T isn't...or any other carrier that is
Can send MMS via LTE with my L900. No connection problems since I got it before launch day. Do you have a properly provisioned micro-sim.

Many of you are aware of a thread in the Focus S section of this forum about someone with their Focus S getting VVM to work. However, it wasn't the most helpful thread to replicating it. I have since replicated this on a different device (the Focus Flash), so I wanted to post something here to let more people know.
Thanks to davezaff for the idea.
Here is how I did it on my Focus Flash. You will probably need a way to edit the APNs.
1. Update to 7740
2. Update to 8107
3. Insert sim card into an AT&T Android LTE phone (I used skyrocket)
4. Go to att.com and switch plan to Data Pro 4g LTE plan. I had to call to switch since it wasn't working on the website.
5. Setup VVM on Android LTE phone (don't know if this is necessary, but this is what I did....make sure friend knows the VM password so they can re-add it when they put their sim card back in.
6.Insert sim card back into Windows Phone
7. Call Voicemail
8. Wait for VVM to show up on phone (mine showed up after calling voicemail).
9. If sync error, edit the APN as follows
APN settings (delete the internet_line APN)
Create a new APN
APN Name: pta
Profile Category: internet (always on)
APN: pta
Auth type: None
Username:
Password:
Proxy address: proxy.mobile.att.net
Proxy domain:
Proxy port: 80
I now have working VVM on AT&T with my Samsung Focus Flash. My internet tethering still works (applied the Interop unlock + tethering hack from XDA). I have not tested MMS since I did this, but the MMS APN was untouched.
So they have tied vvm with their stupid data plans, how nice. So I can pay $20 for 300mb + vvm or I can pay $10 for unlimited data and traditional vm... ATT is so dumb.
Moved To WP7 General
This is not development, its more of a guide. Please post such threads in the WP7 General section
For the normal person, it is pay $30 for 3GB of data with traditional VM or pay $30 for 3GB with VVM. The only difference is one plan has the word LTE at the end.

Yes, and just download the English only language pack.
i already updated to 8107, but im asking if the vvm works for the titan, i also don't know anyone with an LTE android phone
Does this work if you don't setup VVM on the android device first? I was thinking of just calling AT&T and asking to be switched to the 4G plan.
Get it working without an LTE device
OK, I got this to work on my Lumia 800. Furthermore, I didn't have an LTE device.
What I did have however, is an AT&T store that caters extensively to my place of work (a software company). They are really nice, understand unusual requests, and try everything to help.
I did the following:
1. Upgrade the OS as per the original post.
2. Call the nice AT&T store that I mentioned above. Asked them to put me on an LTE plan. (I was already on an enterprise plan, so I was moved to the same enterprise plan but the LTE version. Cost of my plan remained unchanged).
I explained that I was doing some app development, and planned to be swapping phones from time to time, some of which are LTE phones. (I also have a microsim adapter, so moving between phones that take microsim and regular sim is not an issue for me).
They asked if I'd like VVM provisioning. I said yes.
They told me that they would change my listed phone to a blank IMEI (basically change the IMEI listed on my account to a blank IMEI that's associated with an LTE phone for provisioning purposes). I don't know if this is something all stores would be willing to do.
3. In the APN settings, I changed my APN to pta. I did NONE of the other settings mentioned (proxy, proxy port, and everything else are BLANK).
Now I have Visual Voicemail on my Lumia 800!
Hmm so why is vvm only available to LTE phones/network I want to get this.

I wonder if this blank IMEI is a special IMEI that at&t has to test LTE devices on accounts or something. I wonder if this IMEI would also work on other accounts as well. Hmmm.
I don't suppose that IMEI is something you could share possibly? I mean if its not a real phone, and can work on multiple accounts, it would be very nice to (selectively) share it so that some of us can get VVM.

I agree, since I just called asking for essentially this setup and they deniened any special IMEI.

So i also have an 800 and asked them to provision me for HSPA+ recently, so they switched my data plan to one that was supposed to be able to access it (i have no idea if it really can - that's a whole different can of worms). What did they switch your plan to? If you look online and hit "recent usage", you can see under "Additional Data Purchased Usage" your data lines with the plan code. My code is "HSSMTD4O" Just wanted to see if i could skip the "call att" step.
Thought I would share my experience also..
I was able to get VVM working on my Focus Flash. Luckily I have a friend that works at the ATT store. He just took a Samsung Note scanned the IMEI and added that as my phone. Then he enabled LTE and VVM. I rebooted phone and went in the the phone tile, and VVM prompted me for password. I put in password and all has been good.
The easiest way would probably be to borrow a friends VVM supported phone and put your sim in it, then have them add VVM to your account.
I did not have to add any APN's or make any changes to the phone.
Getting it working without a LTE device and without AT&T in your pocket
So, I decided to try and get VVM setup on my Focus S today, but I have no friends with AT&T and the local store was unwilling to help in the fashion outlined above.
So what to do? Well the main thing you need for this is the IMEI number from an Android LTE phone. So I asked a couple friends that don't live close by, and none of them had a LTE phone.
So I searched the internet for those "Get unlock Codes" websites, specifically for tutorials on LTE phones, and some of them show the IMEI number.
So I went into chat support and told them I needed a LTE plan with visual voicemail, and they asked for the IMEI number, I gave it to them, and then 2 minutes later VVM is now provisioned and working properly.
Yeah so I ended up adding the IMEI of a random Galaxy Note that I do not own. It was dead simple to do it online through tech support chat. After that, just called up voicemail, waiting a second or two, hung up, and then my phone prompted me for my voicemail password and automatically enabled visual voicemail. I realize that AT&T's system does not check for duplicate IMEIs across the network, so you can throw the same IMEI onto any number of phones and AT&T wouldn't know a thing (until they start looking of course).
I did have to change my APN to "pta" to get it to sync properly, but after that it was all smooth sailing.
Now I've got Visual Voicemail on my Titan and Lumia.
I am glad some of you were able to get it to work. The big issue I had before starting this thread was getting the APN settings. After getting VVM enabled, it couldnt connect until I messed with the APN. Glad I was able to help y'all!
Guys,
Unlocked and rooted One X on AT&T and my pegged out signal keeps changing from H to 3G over and over and over.... you get the picture. Never stays on one very long before changing and will disrupt data services for a brief moment while it does.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior and if so, any fix to resolve?

Yea I notice it. I believe it's part of the way it saves power but idk if thats true because on my Galaxy Nexus, it would almost always stay on "H".
Mine doesn't really switch out of "H" though when actually loading something, just takes a bit to go from "3G" to "H". I've maybe experienced it once or twice when actually loading something where it would switch out of "H" to "3G" while loading something on XDA or a website. But it's usually when connection is weak.
I'm having the same issue.
if it keeps happening, then complain to ATT and ask for credit on your data plan because it doesn't work the way it should.
From what I read, AT&T phones show only h, even though in the background they switch back and forth.
But when you use international phones on the network, it will show the switching around. I'm not sure if that's related to your issue, but over here on rogers, my phone switches between 3g and h constantly, even when I'm at one location.. The thing is that I don't get long disruptions though, if any at all.
I'm on att and don't experience this. My icon switches frequently but I don't see any interruption in service.

Thanks all, just wanted to make sure that I was the only one experiencing. I will probably go into the AT&T store and see if their One XL display units is doing the same thing while I have mine with me.
Could be that "international" issue type of thing... who knows.
Yes, mine does this too. Im on straight talk which uses at&t and it frequently keeps switching back and forth.

Have you checked the APN settings?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983
Moving from 2/3G to HSPA+ is by design and called fast dormancy. Here's more than you could ever possibly want to know about it.
http://www.slideshare.net/zahidtg/gsma-fast-dormancy-best-practices
It saves battery life and when working properly it's undetectable. That is when FD is active on a device and the network it's using supports it. (AT&T does). If OP's dropping signal something's wrong. I'd check...
- The APN's you use on AT&T must match the plan that's provisioned in your account settings. If you're on a 3G plan (grandfathered unlimited, MediaNet, data for non-Smartphones) use the 3G (Cingular) settings. If you're on a 4G (non-LTE) plan use the 4G (HSPA+) APN. Wrong APN means funky data even if it seems fine sometimes.
- Older SIMs or SIMs from iPhone's in non-Apple devices have caused problems. As has bad surgery in the move to micro. Pop in to an AT&T store and get a new micro SIM matched to the provisioning of your account.
- Bad phone h/w. In not the above it could be the device.
I've just been across the country on the AT&T network and my phone has performed better than my i9100 in picking up and maintaining a signal (I'm on a 3G plan). It's been impressive actually especially in moving from HSPA to Wi-Fi and back. So with the right settings the phone itself should be fine.

Just tried that and it's not working for me. Doubled checked, everything is exactly as he said. I just don't have the option to switch from what it currently is (MediaNet). There's no radio button for the other two. Even after deleting the original (only leaving the two I just made) and restarting, I have no connection to the network.

I had an unactivated micro SIM that I had my corporate account rep activate so my situation's different than yours; the SIM is tied exactly to the settings in my account. I popped it in, it picked up the MediaNet settings, and all was good.
My phone has a single APN so I can't see the way the settings look when there are multiples. The last setting in the active APN is "APN enable/disable" which is greyed out on my because there's no other choice. Did you try disabling it after you got the new APN's entered? Maybe if you do it'll allow you to select the new APN's you created.

My "APN enable/disable" is greyed out as well. I tried the new APNs in the other thread and couldn't get a internet connection. The only successful APN with the One X was the medianet. Other than that, I'll settle for the medianet but only wanted to change it to get better speeds in my area since this phone is capable of receiving up to 21mbps.

The highest I've seen on either an international phone or an AT&T 21MB-capable phone is 8MBish down. That's in TX where there's lots of bandwidth shared by not a lot of people. In markets like LAX, NYC, and SFO you're lucky to break 5MB because of the congestion. I've seen 2MB and under in Manhatten. HSPA+ speeds on AT&T are very much YMMV.

Hi,
I had the same issue with Fido until another user on here helped me out. I called Fido and had them reset my data package. I believe the user called it re-provisioning. I have attached the link to the original thread. I just said I was having data issues which was not untrue because my data connection was extremely slow and that I had talked to someone who suggested reseting (re-provisioning) the data plan. After the re-provisioning the MMS started working and my Visual Voice mail (visiual voicemail through mms, not the windows phone as its not supported on Rogers from what I understand). In addition my data connection finally seemed to work correctly.

Yes, I have. I tried both this one and the TelCel rom. Both of them allowed me to finally use internet sharing and MMS. I'm pretty sure LTE works on both roms too it is just shown as 4G instead of LTE and when you are on HSPA it shows H instead of 4G like with the stock Rogers rom (and probably AT&T too). When tethered and showing 4G as the connection on my phone, I have gotten 1.5 MB/s down and about 800 KB/s up so I'm pretty sure that's an LTE connection. When I went to the cellular settings and changed it to only use 3G data, I get about 150 KB/s down and 80 KB/s up.
Hello everyone,
I have a new AT&T plan with five lines, all using Samsung Galaxy S3s, all having the same problem. My 14 day grace period to cancel is almost up and I'm at my wits end searching for an answer. The phones are not rooted as I do not understand most of this technology; however I'm smart enough to know that this is a problem beyond rebooting the phone or resetting the SIM card, as every forum out there is telling people to do. Calling tech support (please don't make me) is a LAST resort for any device I own.
In the town where I work and shop I have no signal at all from AT&T. No voice, text, or data. AT&T coverage map shows "good" coverage in this town. Every so often I do get a weak AT&T signal but only for a few seconds. I do however pick up a very strong signal from a T-Mobile tower. I know that AT&T and T-Mobile both use GSM and should be compatible for roaming purposes, but the phone does not roam; it just shows a strong signal that I cannot connect to. Also, it switches back and forth between these two towers. I posted screen shots taken one minute apart.
In my phone's "Mobile Networks" settings there is no option to chose a network. There are only four options on that page: Mobile Data (checked), Data Roaming (not checked), APN, and Network Operators. I have tried adding a new APN but that did not work. The Network Operators tab says "Default Setup" and I cannot change it. I understand this is an issue with AT&T - they deliberately remove these settings.
I have gone through all the settings in Service Mode using *#197328640# looking for a way to enable the missing settings. I have already used the Service Mode to disable LTE (another setting AT&T likes to deprive us of) but that was not the problem so I put that back on automatic. I have also checked and unchecked every imaginable combo of settings such as wifi, data, airplane mode, etc.
I think the problem is either that the T-Mobile tower is interfering with what *should* be a good AT&T signal, or that the fact that I am "connected" to AT&T (albeit with no bars) is preventing me from roaming. I'd like to know if there is a way to disconnect from AT&T to test that theory. Also, I'd like to know if there is something I can do from Service Mode to enable the missing settings so I can set up roaming.
Thanks so much for any suggestions or help.

Just the default one called "ATT Phone".
I tried a Cingular APN in order to get a better connection to the AT&T tower, but it didn't work and I removed it. I found the T-Mobile APN info and was planning to try that next time I'm in town if I don't find some other solution first.
Is it the wap.cingular or pta one? You have to reboot after changing apn's but I'm sure you already knew that

I used the wap.cingular one and did reboot. Do you think this is an APN issue? I'm kind of at a dead end unless I find where to enable those mobile network settings. Thanks for your responses.

If you do not have the pta apn, try and add it. That's the LTE network.
Name: ATT PTA
APN: pta
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Auth: none
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
Add this in, select it and reboot
I have added it and will get to town tonight to see if it works. I'll post an update afterward. Thank you!

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I also tried to use a T-Mobile one and the phone wouldn't even let me save it.
I broke down and called AT&T tech support to find out where the roaming settings are in the phone... of course they didn't tell me, but they did tell me they don't have a roaming partnership with T-Mobile in my area. Therefore I'm out of luck and will be cancelling my contract.

Sorry buddy. Best of luck. Use your s3 on a carrier's no-contract plan. Perhaps t mobile or straight talk? Cheers
I've followed most of this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/help/guide-fire-phone-fireos-google-apps-t3206603) along with updating to 4.6.6, to set up my fire phone, and almost everything is working. I've activated the phone with a Cricket sim, and I can get internet and sms fine. I still can't get mms to send or receive. I've tried several different APN settings from the Cricket website and others. I've tried using the stock messaging app as well as handcent.
Is anyone else using Cricket with their fire phone and able to send/rec mms? If so, what are your APN settings?
My wife's fire phone is working with Cricket, including MMS. I think Cricket takes up to 24 hours to re-reoute SMS/MMS correctly. Maybe give it a day and see if it fixes itself.

So it does work. That's good news. Turns out my wife's BLU phone doesn't work either. It's been over a week since she switched. Would you mind looking at the APN settings and telling me if they match these (taken from https://www.cricketwireless.com/sup...e-byod/customer/bring-your-own-android.html):
Name: Internet
APN: ndo
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: http://mmsc.aiowireless.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.aiowireless.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 150
Authentication type: Not Set APN type: default, mms, fota, hipri, supl
Thanks
I would have to wait until tonight to check her phone, but my Nexus 5 is working with those APN settings.
Well, it turns out the fire phone is set to use the AT&T APN. The Cricket APN is there on the phone, but the AT&T one is selected. And everything is working fine on her phone.
Here is a thread from howardforums that describes this same situation.

Also, I neglected to mention that I use Google Voice, so all my SMS/MMS gets routed as data. Which is why I thought the Cricket APN worked for my Nexus 5.

Yeah, thanks. I've tried all the settings on that thread. No joy. Maybe it's something wrong with my account since all four phones have the same problem

Thank you more times than I could ever say! I have a carrier unlocked LG H830 (G5), and have spent more hours than I'd like to admit trying to get outgoing MMS to work on Cricket Wireless. You name it, I've tried it. I would never EVER have thought to change the Network Mode. That fixed it. Granted, instead of showing "LTE", it's now showing 4G (3.5G), and my data speed down is about 5MB, but Cricket throttles the down speeds anyway. And, at home on Wifi, it doesn't matter anyway. So again, thank you!
For the purposes of future Google searchers:
For outgoing MMS to work on a carrier unlocked LG H830 (LG G5), the Network Mode must be set to GSM/WCDMA.
Regards,
Mark
