no offense to you but why not just read reviews watch youtube videos..you can see hands on video reviews and that way you can make your decision and see how everything works on the phone. no point others telling you. best to see for yourself. just type htc one x review videos and that is it on youtube..Google is your friend
but everything works fine for me. but if you are going to go for a browser use Google chrome on your phone if you get it because it is just brilliant and smooth..
anyway watch videos and read reviews and make your own mind up

Thinking about getting the Desire.

Hey there Desire users!
I just want to ask you all,
1) what do you think of the phone?
2) Would you recommend it?
3) What are the biggest problems you've had? Any fixes?
4) Is there lag at anytime that you think there shouldn't be?
5) What's the web experience like?
6) And probably most important for me, what's the SMS experience like? (can i please have a screenshot of that? )
Sorry for so many questions but I wanna know if the phone will be worth getting.
Thanks,
Luke.
Buddy!
Alright, I'll share my desire experience here.
To be honest man, that very night before I actually made up my mind to sign up for the desire, I searched up the entire net about opinions.
But reading the review and getting the phone itself, that's really two different aspects of the phone you'll get.
The sms functions are flexible this time round due to the wide screen the desire has, unlike my old HTC touch diamond 2, I had such a hard time using it for smses!
And for the rest of the bugs I wouldn't say there's none. But since the days I've started using, the bugs are more or less either not obvious, or not annoying. Cause as a previous iPhone user, bugs there are much more obvious and annoying.
Lastly I guess i'll give the desire a 8/10 as a phone due to the not 2.2 android software that we have, which I hope will be updated soon, and also due to the fact that applications cannot be stored on.SD cards.
However if you wish to root your desire then its a whole different story..
The HTC sense is really awesome. That's the trump.card of the phone, as it really upholds the name of a smartphone.
Wish you all the best,
Pardon me for the vocabulary here.

I love mine, had it 4 days
bought it SIM free never been near a carriers branding team.
£399.95 from a CarPhoneWarehouse shop, zero issues, much better than my iPhone 3gs.
1. It's awesome. Especially if you're coming from Windows Mobile. Check out my review. Would also suggest you look at other reviews of the device. There's a sticky thread in the Desire General section for reviews. You may also want to see this!
2. Hell yes!
3. Check out my stickied thread in the Desire General forum. Keep in mind that none of those items really get in the way. Many of them are simply a result of our own high expectations. Everything that the device is advertised for works very well.
4. I can see why you're asking this because in WinMo, the OS often lags for no apparent reason at random times. This doesn't happen on the Desire. It only lags sometimes when you shut down. It's odd. But if you don't shutdown, it's fine. And if you just want to softreset, just use the hardware key combination (power+vol down+trackpad).
5. Web experience is arguably the best across all smartphone platforms. Versus WinMo, there's no comparison in terms of speed and stability. Versus iOS, it's just as fast plus you get full screen browsing along with text reflow. Tip: Turn off Javascript and Flash to really speed things up.
6. SMS looks and behaves very similar to the HTC Messaging application included with Sense 2.5 for WinMo. But as you might know, it lags in WinMo to the point where it's almost unusable. No lag in Android on Desire. Soft keyboard is among the best.
If you want to see the device in action, Youtube is your friend...
Oh wow, I really didn't expect so many replies so quickly.
Well thank you all for your input you've pretty much confirmed what i thought, this phone is awesome. I'll be getting it for my birthday so I shall now await that day with great eagerness!!
From the videos of the phone I have seen it looks like a truely awesome phone.

Yes I am willing to root the phone straight off, maybe a day or two after I get it... I've already read up on it and it doesn't seem to be something straightforward but not impossible for me to do.
Thanks again for input everyone. I shall definitely be getting this phone (if money agrees as it'll be unlocked then my current sim used).
One more question, I heard about the 2.2 release having 10.1 flash support... What sort of flash support does the current 2.1 have?
Luke.
It have only a flash lite version that is able to play videos not very smoothly.

No lag here. Its infinitely smoother now that I'm on 4.0.4.
Not just you!
Im having bad lag on 4.0.4 aswell. Especially when coming from lock screen!
Do you have signal/radio problem as well?
Loss of signal/radio drops when at idle and high battery consumption.

I bought one on the day Google put them on their Play Store. I am getting really bad lag when i scroll between home pages. I got it with 4.0.4 installed(stock).
I absolutely love the phone (ordered another one already in transit), beside some lags that require reboot to make it disappear. Btw, I've only installed less than 5 apps (Netflix, T-mobile app, Chrome browser, Speed Test, Chase app).
I just dont know why it lags when browsing the web and scrolling btw home pages. The phone is only a few days old and I would really appreciate any help.

Htc one x bugs

I have read many threads about bugs and possible, bugs on a phone that just launched....the HTC ONE X. Well let me tell you cry babies that every phone that launched new has had issues including the iPhone. Some of you cry, and compare this phone to the Galaxy Nexus.....really? Just run over to the Galaxy Nexus forum and look at all the bugs that it has. Hell Verizon has yet to get 4.04 patch, and all others just got a patch for a phone that has been released over 5 months ago....wtf.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585889
So far hardware wise this is the phone to beat, not every phone has these bugs, and there has been record of tester reviewers getting 1.27 patch that clears up all of these issues. All I have to say to some of you is yes phones should be perfect when launched in an ideal world, but we don't have perfect ideal lives or phones.
However; the Galaxy Nexus has just as many problems yet I see comparison threads as if it were running glitch free when it is not.

I am not the one crying you are the whiner here mister. Pocket Now gives this phone a good review with a point out of a few bugs. Go ahead talk about the bugs the phone has, but this thread is about finding bugs and comparing it to another buggy phone like the Galaxy Nexus.wtf
I am not, and have not suggested that if you have a bug feel happy say nothing. I am merely suggesting that the whiners comparing it to another buggy phone like the Galaxy Nexus to wake up. The Nexus still has bugs 5 months later. BTW Pocket Now called it the best Android device on the market today. Also there seems to be a 1.27 patch that a few reviewers had that seem not to have theses issues.

I agree with you. I'm coming from galaxy nexus, and based on my experience, HTC One X is far superior in terms of build quality and all.
Sure, htc one x has its own bugs, like any other phone, but I had more issues with my galaxy nexus. bugs that i couldnt stand like microphone cutting out in the middle of a call (and it happenned so often) and poor wifi reception. Not to mention the crappy camera with blurry images.
Now obviously these bugs are not for everyone, and its not something that you can notice in the first glance, but as you use them both for a period of time, you can definitely say which one is better.
So in summation, you're saying that regardless of all the build, audio, screen, lag, Sense restarts and charging issues we should all just keep quiet, discuss no issues and provide no feedback and let HTC think everything is fine and dandy?
Seriously?
It's people like you that are halting the evolution of the human race.

You state that I am halting evolution, and you can't even comprehend what you are reading and then you misinterpret what you have read and suggest that I am halting evolution. Seems to me that you and your High IQ "not" is halting human evolution.....ass backwards thinking dare I say!

I think you need to read your own OP again friend cause you saying two.different things here. People complaining about bugs is normal, we need to talk about those bugs so we can either help each other on the forum and fix it or let HTC know about them. Also people are comparing the One X to the nexus because the nexus is ARGUABLY the best android phone to compare it to ( shout out to the galaxy note). And nobody here said that the nexus is better than the one x, we said that there are things that the nexus does better than the one x like handling flash player for example. And I suggest you watch again the video review of pocket now when he says that a device like that with many cores SHOULDNT be lagging those are his words and I absolutely agree. He also said that the Galaxy S3 is on the way and it might blow the one x out of the water. Every things he said was spot on, it was unbiased that's the reason why I provided you with the link so you can see for yourself. YES THE ONE X IS CURRENTLY THE BEST ANDROID DEVICE ACCORDING TO ENGADGET, POCKETNOW, THE VERGE ECT... but is it worth upgrading from a nexus when.the Galaxy s 3 is right around the corner? I don't know about that we will see but we gonna keep pointing out the issues about this phone and any other phone as a matter of fact. This is the first quad core phone on the market so of course it will be scrutinized like this.

No reason to reread what I posted my friend I stand by it. I am not trying to minimize the issus that this phone has. The many post in this forum suggest that the isssues are real and they exist. I don't suggest feeling happy about them and that no one should be posting about them like the person that I was anwering suggested either.
That said I also never said any one in this thread said anything aobut the GN. However I do mention that I have read post on this forum where people are comparing this to the Galaxy Nexus when infact the Galaxy Nexus has bugs just as well. This is all that I suggest and that I am merely pointing out OK! All phones when laucnhed seem to have bugs that are found by the masses when used more frequently on a daily basis. The Galaxy Nexus may be used as a bench mark, but remember it still has just as many bugs 5 months later is all I am referencing here with that statement. Android central has a One X vs GN and the GN gets blown away . Not all of these phones seem to have that issue which suggest a software glitch may be the problem. I saw a review where these issues were present but the reviewer got a 1.27 patch that eliminated them. http://m.androidcentral.com/htc-one-x-or-samsung-galaxy-nexus
I just feel that to get a phone on launch and complain about its problems and compare it to another phone with just as many problems is ridiculous, and if you read more out of what I am saying it is what it is period. Again I am not trying to minimize the issues or suggest that people should be happy with them nor have I insinuated this!

I hear what you're saying in your last paragraph, but again this is the first phone on the market to be quad core so it will be scrutinized. That's just how people think quad core phone = shouldn't lag. Small bugs here and there are one thing cause it's easily fixed with software updates or ROMs and kernels. But lag on a quad core device doesn't look too good that's the point I'm trying to make. And again it is the first quad core phone. This year I was hesitant on buying the one X cause last year I purchased the sensation and what a piece of crap it was at launch. ( remember all the rumors about the pyramid first HTC dual core phone blah blah blah) and it was a disappointment in my opinion. With time it became better with ROMs and stuff but still. Now the one x launches with all thes bugs. Same thing again. Next year when HTC release their new flagship people will remember that the one x launched with lots of bugs so they might not buy the new one. See what I'm saying?
I haven't read through this thread because I am at work... But for one... I have having trouble adding my apple email account... And it appears that maps is always in the recent apps list even when I haven't opened it... Is it GPS that's doing it?

I agree with the statement about lag issues and all, and yes a quad core should not lag, but remember the software is more than likely the issue. Some phone's have the problem and some that were reviewed that did received 1.27 patch the problems disappeared, and increased battery life.
In spite of the lag Pocket Now still said that its the best Android phone to date. This I think may be attributed to the thinking that the issues are software related and may be resolved with a DEV rom or a patch. Again I am not trying to minimize any issues that are reported.

Hello!.
Not sure on your Apple email address.
The maps thing, it did this to me for a day or two. I thought I was accidentally pressing maps all the time with out realising. Then one day it suddenly stopped happening. I presume that it was downloading some maps files it needed or something, not sure.
Bugs with my One X are as follows (T-Mobile , Branded..... , 1.26.110.5)
Flash player pretty much unuseable - embedded videos in websites laggy, slow, crash browser and htc sense, but phone does come back.
Flash player full screen (not embedded, the open in new window type) also very laggy and crashes browser and HTC sense eventually.
Also tried some low resources flash games, and some flash fruit machines. These also crash.
Apart from that mine seems to be ok, apart from the horrid T-Mobile boot logo and the horrid internet icon they use
What a pointless thread, can't believe somebody opened a thread just to argue, and badly at that ! ?
Somebody please close this thread !
I tend to gather real world evidence over a period of time by actually using the device, rather than read countless posts about bugs.
I've had 4 Sense devices and all of them lagged and the One X is no different. However, only on exiting of apps in my case.
It's simply thee best device i've ever owned and apart from the occasional flicker of the screen and it being huge, i cannot fault it compared to other phones i've used.
I'm still, however, envious of the slickness of iOS and that's all end users care about. It's how smooth the experience is. Having a Quad core marketing strategy counts for nothing in my eyes, if the UI stutters it's game over.
On the flipside, apparently an update has solved a few laggy issues, but again until i see it myself, i won't believe it.

nice!!!!
Hope other apps follow suit now but well get there
Mod or Die
What did they need to change really to support this phone? Is our Tegra 3 chip going to cause issues for us long term you think? Its interesting to me, and id be interested to find out what the appeal of the Tegra 3 was to HTC, other than, as i suspect, Nvidia wanted to be the first quad core and offered it at a great price!
yeah its a prob at min but won't be long term as developers update there Apps. Well see the main benefits whens theres Tegra 3 Apps released etc but i suspect until theres a lot more Tegra3 devices around we won't see real benefits
Not going to use ever again simply because Facebook bought em. I don't use Facebook because of espionage lol.
Ever since seeing all those whiney iphone idiots cry about this app becoming available on Android, I've been put off using it, Prefer CameraFX anyway.

Instagram works quite well for me now, however there are still some glitches with the camera. Quality could be better, too!

I think i'm done!

Posting in this section because posters on this form have experience with both the S4 and the Tegra 3.
Currently I own an HTC ONE S. I love the way it looks and feels in the hand, the screen and battery life is decent and when its working correctly its lovely and fast.
BUT
I hate the chipping issues and there is no official word on a solution for the black version. The Internet and signal is sporadic at best jumping from 3G to HSDP+ and often not working at all i'm also getting soft resets when browsing the internet. I also hate that it can't play 720p youtube smoothly.
I'm thinking of complaining to 3mobile and upping my tariff and swapping for a HTC One X (international with Tegra 3).
I'll get used to the size and the added bonus of extra storage will be nice. The battery concerns me a little. In work I always have access to a charger so thats ok. But at weekends when i'm out and about just using the phone for the occasional call and text and nothing else am I likely to notice a huge difference between the S and the X?
Would you make the change if you were having the same issues as me? I've had two ONE S's both with the same problems so its not just my phone.
There have been no updates for the S whereas there have been at least 2 for the X. Also the ROM scene on the S isn't great with not many releases and I was hoping to learn how to do that and have some fun tinkering.
What would you do?
Thanks for any help in advance.
If I were you I'd go ahead and get the One X because you seem to want more power to play 720p smoothly without LTE and after reading the Battery Stats thread (which includes the One X international version), I came to a conclusion that the One X has pretty decent battery life. Though I'm already biased because I literally can't sleep at night because I'm thinking about this phone, I would still recommend it over the One S also because of screen size and quality. But before you pull the trigger and get the One X, you should ask around the forums and see if anyone else is using the unlocked international version of the One X on T-Mobile and if they're experiencing similar issues.
they said they changed the process of the one s, so idk exchange it for the one s, if it doesnt work go to the one s!!!!
but i think your meant to post this in the international one x section??? yes no idk
Wrong forum, this is the S4 One X(L) section.
That being said, the S4 version is still a fantastic device.

you're right... I think it should be under the international One X forum.
Yeah you're probably right actually.
Apologize. Could an admin move it for me?
current One X owner, it eats h264 for breakfast and plays 1080p videos flawaless im surprised the One S can't play 720p, tegra games and the SLCD2 screen have to be seen to be believed
however we have serious list of random build quality defects right and there is a high chance you might get a defected unit, i made a poll and 28% out of 600 voters had a defected unit
im switched two phones so far each with their own set of build niggles, these devices are fresh out of the oven and HTC is yet to nail the production process

My advice: get rid of them and move on. Why stick w something that gives you so much distress and then feel unhappy?
That being said, if I were to get any of them, I'd stick around since they are such nice phones and I cant imagine me using Android on any other brand Sam*cough*sung*cough.
But again: it's just a phone. Dont like it dont use it.

Please don't be misleading when it comes to defective numbers, its natural that when people have defects they come search on a forum like this and when nothing is wrong they don't.
Also after years of reading these forums its clear that out of the thousands there is always a few ocd who nit pick at things that the general public would never even notice as build defects.
My One X is fine btw It's the longest I have ever gone without rooting and installing custom rom, I think because I really enjoy the stock speeds and sense UI re design ^.^

i opened more One X than you can ever dream of, i crossed 15 One X so far
latest issue? dust under the screen in three at least
you are the one being misleading and fooling yourself and yes we have one perfect flawless one x and its really a piss off when it so hard to find one like it
One x is brilliant if you get a good one, but it is a lottery. Who did you replace the phone with for 15 times

Dust would drive me insane! The chipping issue on the ONE S is not good at all.
The phone plays 720p fine in a dedicated media player but it does not like 720p in youtube in the browser.
I do like my ONE S just wish it would work properly (internet and MAO coating).

The Previous poster is right, It's you who is being misleading.
I believe the defective unit rate would be more like >10% (Still bad), Remember people like to complain more than they like to praise, hence why you'd see a disproportionate amount of negative results.
also, I find it hard to believe you're on your 15th one X?!
Why not Give up at your 3rd?

Not to say that dust under the screen isn't a defect, and it would definitely drive me crazy, but I would be surprised if my girlfriend would notice any of the build defects that people return one x's for.

I actually don't what to thank your post but the app I'm using is to damn sensitive. Sorry.
Whoa, thanks revoked! That's pretty harsh, lol!!
I'm with basil3...to any of us here, the most minute little inconsistency will drive us mad and we will post and ***** and moan about it all day long, but to most people, such things don't even compute. It's the same reason "most people" buy iPhones...they just don't know any better and any old POS will do.
Fwiw, I also have a perfect OneX. Still stock and brilliant in every way. I also find it difficult to believe someone would keep going back to something that they found defective fifteen times...
get the XL if you are on tmobile..if you buy the international version you will be stuck with edge unless you live in an area that tmo has refarmed their 1900 spectrum to handle 3G (which I doubt it)
