Wireless tether allows 4g tethering. The last few gingerbread roms I've used allowed for the wireless tether app to work just fine, 4g and 3g.

I tried Wireless thether 2.0.5 pre 7 and did not work at all. App said it was thethering but. Itouch don't recognize it. Maybe I can try another build. My battery life is amazing though with the set up I have now. I guess it comes down to 4g tether or long battery life. duh. Thanks for the reply.

+1........This has been my experience, as well. Great speeds, especially via 4G.

I use my wfs as modem, and I found out wifi tether is much faster than usb tether. I don't mind it anyway, but a little bit curious.

same with me
I have just rooted my E4GT.
Installed WiFi tether.
I cannot seem to get it to work. My Gtab 10.1 wont recognize it all. My laptop will show it under wireless networks but won't connect.
What I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Are you talking about the Sprint Hotspot app? It's working for me.
The sprint hotspot app works just fine for me!
I havent test using 4G but i guess it doesnt work.

On the Galaxy Tab 10.1 you will probably have to change out the wpa supplicant file. Use root explorer to do this. Be sure to go into airplane mode before you make any changes. Go into system/bin (make sure its marked r/w) rename the original wpa supplicant file just in case you need to revert. Then replace it with the modified supplicant file. Make sure the permissions are exactly the same as the original. Change back to r/o, take it out of airplane mode and you should be good.
Try this one

It's working fine. The reason your GT10.1 won't recognize is because it is broadcasting an AdHoc network, rather than the EVO's infrastructure network. It's a pain but there are ways around it. All you need is download a ROM with the AdHoc tweak (such as the Overcome ROM for the GT10.1) or tweak the wpa_supplicant file yourself.
Thanks for the replies.
This is WiFi tether from the market i am talking about.
Any one have insight into why i can't get to work with my laptop. it shows as a network but will not connect.
Thanks

Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Yup! It's working on PhantomHacker's Starburst v1.5 ROM like a beauty I'm using the included kernel (the one that is embedded in the ROM).
It's the Sprint Hotspot app. Works wonders for me!
Has been working fine for me since I downloaded from the market (Wifi Tether) after rooting. Stock ROM
On wifi teher is it infrastructure or ad hock using the latest beta please confirm please

No, I pay for the native Sprint Hotspot because it never fails. Once 4g gets hacked, bye bye $30 a month. For Wifi Tether, 3.1 beta 6 is great. Here's that one...

I can't find an answer to this question.
We have a very fast ethernet network at work and a very slow wifi network and poor 3g speeds. As a result dropbox backups take ages.
Is there any way to get my phone to use my PCs internet connection when it's connected by USB cable? I know I'll be limited to USB 2 speeds but that should be a big improvement.

If your PC has a wifi card, you can turn it into a wifi hotspot natively using Windows 7. You can also use 3rd party software if you are on XP.
Once you have the hotspot set up, just connect with your gnex.

I'll have to borrow a laptop and try that. Shame there's no way of just using a simple cable!
I wonder if the wifi network it will be ad hoc and therefore may not not be visible to ICS. I'll try tomorrow if I can find a laptop.
In the meantime, if anyone can think of a cable method.......

Has anyone had problems with using the Sprint tethering app with 4G? I am charging my phone while running it, but the charger that came with it can't keep up. I have tried different roms and kernels with the same results.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk
i had used it all of the time with 4g on through this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837).
I use an HTC charger and it can keep up while using hotspot on 4g, that samsung charger is crap
