Hi. Just wanna share my experience about my One V. After complaining for days for death grip on my HTC One V. My network showed 'no service' and my wifi signal was also bad, even whe I hold my phone correctly. But now I can finally use my phone properly. What I did was remove the sticker on the back of plastic cover which is located on the bottom and the problem was solved..
The sticker looks like this

The sticker blocks my antenna whic is located on the back of the pastic cover of my phone and blocks my microphone as well. The sticker was not a seal, its just a details about my phone, model, ect. Hope that helps you too..
Note: Im sorry for calling this phone **** and all of the bad words on my previous post. I was mad back then, cus I wasnt able to call.. again, Im sorry
HTV One V really great phone

Interesting. Where did that sticker come from?

Its on the back of the sim card cover, not on the phone. Its only information about my phone and says that my phone has been passed government inspection. Its not a seal. It probably blocks my antenna. I think this sticker may vary from other country.

I removed the sticker, but nothing is changed :-(
There are antennas inside the plastic cover. You will see leads on it and the bottom of the phone that connect when you close the cover. The sticker covers those leads and breaks the connection. After you remove the sticker make sure the leads are clean and clear of obstruction. This phone has no inherent death grip problem. Once those leads are clean you should always have the same signal strength in any position.

That's wierd. There are antennas on the plastic cover, so kindly make sure you put them back on.
If your network is unstable like mine, go to settings-mobile network-select gsm only

In my country, there's no sticker in the cover, but the signal is still bad.

My english is not really good.. so if you want to insert sim card or microsd see if the cover you remove has sticker on it. If its not, and the death grip presist, maybe you should contact your seller. What country are you from?
HTC One V is really a great phone. Try to fix that problem, dont replace to another phone (galaxy wonder?)

Should I stick the label?
I got a label with the phone which says that I should stick it to tge device to claim service and repair. My hands shiver when try to stick it after reading this forum....

does the label already stick on your device? the one with shiny silver color is usually a seal to claim service and guarentee. you should not remove that. if the label is given saperately, you should ask your seller wheter or not you can stick that label by yourself. as you can see from the picture above, the sticker which blocks signal and microphone is located on the back of the SIM and MicroSD cover. this sticker might not available in other country.
note: I'm sorry for misunderstanding due to my bad english

Stick it when you need to claim...if everything is fine ... Keep it in a safe place until you need any repair but hopefully you wouldn't need to put it on

Did you guys ever tried switching the radio to GSM ONLY? Because WCDMA PREFFERED IS (in my country at least) a very bad service receiver! With GSM only i have full bars even if I'm in a cave!
To change your radio settings, go to Dialer, dial this code: *#*#4636#*#*.
Go to Phone information, scroll down and where you see WCDMA, press it, and from the list choose GSM only!
Tell me if this works for your phone because I don't yet have a One V, but the code is general for all android devices (tried on Galaxy S, Galaxy mini, GAlaxy fit, Htc Hero).

XDA Rules:

The death grip problem exists in GSM mode too but you don't notice it due to 2 reasons:
1. In Europe in the most of the cases for gsm are used the 900Mhz and 1800Mhz bands and for umts - the 2100Mhz band. The path loss in the 2100 band is bigger so generaly the GSM rx level (the coverage) is better.
2. The table for mapping dBms to bars is something like this (It is vendor specific. I don't know if this one is used in one v) :
dBm ---------- Signal Quality (bars)
-75 or greater---------- 5
-83 to -74---------- 4
-95 to -82---------- 3
-105 to -94---------- 2
-110 -104---------- 1
-111 or less---------- 0
Everithing greater then -75dBm is 5 bars in this case.
Here is one simple example:
You put the phone in GSM only mode on the table. The rx level is -55dBms - 5 bars. You hold the phone and the level becoms -75 dBms - still 5 bars (I have found tha in the worst case when you cover entirely the antena, the attenuation is about 20dB).
If you swich the phone to dual or UMTS only mode in the same place, the rx level (RSCP) is about -75dBm due to the reasons in point 1.The attenuation is 20dB again and when you hold the phone so the level becomes -95dBm -3 bars.
This means that you might experience coverage problems in areas with poor coverage (where you didn't have problems with another phone).
I have asked HTC about the problem but they deny such problem. Here is their answer:
"Thank you for contacting HTC.
With regards to your enquiry, kindly note that, It is inevitable that signal strength will weaken a little when the antenna is covered in its entirety by a palm or fingers.
We test our phones extensively to ensure that under normal circumstances the reception strength performance will be more than sufficient for the operation of the phone.
There are many ways to avoid getting a weak signal:
1. Try adjusting the position of the phone, sometimes just repositioning the phone in your hand will boost the signal a little.
2. Try allowing for a little more space between the phone and your palm.
3. Try moving to a location with more signal strength. Remember that certain areas may have better cellular/mobile reception than others.
Thank for the understanding."
when i switched to gsm only , after 3 or 4 second , my network back to WCDMA !!!
what's the problem ?!
Hi guys,
Please try to "Settings" > Tap "Mobile network" > Change network mode to "GSM Only".
If If its OK on that sounds like 3G network issue.
If it's not OK, try to remove "battery cover" which has no function.(It may have guarantee problem)
If it's OK, it maybe SIM card or antenna contact issue.
Could you give me some information about that:
1. How long you use it? (1 day, 2day....1 week...?)
2. What's country you use One V?
3. What's telecoms operator you use?
4. What the frequency telecoms operator use?
(GSM 900/1800, GSM850/1900, WCDMA 2100/1900/850/900?)
Thanks a whole bunch
This solution resolved a very complicated day yesterday. I got a bit of sleep, dad picked me up for breakfast and coffee, we talked briefly about it. I realized I was working on empty and not visualizing my problem and correcting that problem. The problem wasn't reactivation, kernel, bootloader, etc. Everything was working, I ust had to slip the antenna cover back on....I FEEL SO STUPID! Thank you now.

Hope its not like apple aerial problem that plague them in the past, but today is my 3rd time over a week that I have lost phone signal on 3 UK network.
I am in a relatively strong signal, and my wife's signal is full bars on her HTC hero.
And when I try search for network it says error searching strange away as if there is a hardware fault. Only reboot fix this.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm using on T-Mobile US (although I actually use Three when I visit the UK, several times a year) and I found one thing which *MAY* help.
It depends where you are, if you use Three only on their 3G signal, or if you rely on their 2G roaming with Orange or whoever it is these days. Anyway, you could try the following:
From the dialer, dial *#*#4636#*#* (4636 spelling INFO) and it will bring up a hidden "Testing" menu.
- Choose the first option "Phone Information"
- Scroll down and you'll see a pull down menu where you can select the network type
- Mine seems to default to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
- Try changing it to "WCDMA only" which should force your phone to ONLY use Three's 2100MHz network. (You could try "WCDMA Preferred" which should leave you with 2G as a fallback if needed).
I have no real evidence that this works - only that for me, it *seems* to hold onto a T-Mobile USA 3G signal a bit better - but I could be fooling myself.
Anyway, feel free to try it - you shouldn't need to reboot or anything. If it doesnt help, or screws something up, you can always set it back to the original setting (note that down!!).
Be careful playing around with the stuff in those menus BTW!!! Don't touch anything if you don't know what it does!
Well, I am afraid changing that WCDMA didn't stop my lost of signal problem I just suffered a few moments ago.
I KNOW its a perfect signals where I am. I work from home, so no roaming about.
Any other ideas? The SIM I am using was perfectly fine on the samsung galaxy s I had previously.
I also have reception problems - Vodafone UK/Handtec phone.
Sometimes it loses reception completely - have to turn off/on.
Often it jumps from 2G to HSPA when I know I should have stable 3G where I live.
If I go into area where there is no reception and come out under clear sky - it takes veeeery long time to get reception back. Its quicker to turn off/on the phone.
Its VERY buggy - email stopped working, volume on keypad goes on/off, error when trying to view gallery etc.
I hope in few months time Google gets it sorted.
I don't get any other buggy issues with my phone. Just signal drops. This is my 4th android phone - none of them experienced this problem before with the same sim card.
Its acting like its gone into airplane mode (but without the plane, but with working wifi)
Not a great solution to keep turning it off/on to regain its signal - I am not even aware of the lost of signal, and can't be missing any important calls/text.
Oh man. I don't really want to take my phone back!
I have a very similar problem with my GN as per this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374190
I have a new Galaxy Nexus from Amazon, sim free. Connects to Vodafone UK with no problem but will lose the connection entirely when I try to make or receive a call.
Same symptoms, loses carrier signal entirely, like in airplane mode but wifi, bluetooth etc carry on working. The same SIM (which I've had for years) works just fine in my old Desire.
Vodafone UK are sending me a new SIM so I'll try that but otherwise I think it will have to be returned to Amazon.
well, 6th time to lose signal was the last straw, so took the phone back to three shop. They haven't heard of this problem, but then again its so new.
The staff were brilliant - got the phone exchanged without kicking up any fuss
So will see how it goes. I did ask what happens if i still find a fault - they said next step is to replace the sim. Would have thought replacing the sim first rather then the phone, but hey-ho - a new phone. hope nothing else is wrong with it!
i have a replacement device coming for this very same issue today.
I am on an expandsys device on ATT.
the signal has got to the point of being so bad that i have 93% signal loss in my home which usually gets 3/4 bars.
My wifes iphone is working just fine as well.
hopefully the new device fixes it , if not they are both going back.
3-UK User here.
Only had GN since last thursday but not experience any of these symptoms.
Glad to see another 3-uk user having a GN - and not experiencing the no-signal problem - so it looks more promising.
aimetti - sounds like you got a lot worse then mine. most of the time, for me, the signal is fine - the lost of signal is occurring when I wake my phone from sleep and it doesn't always seem to regain signal back.
Instead of jumping onto a new phone, I think you guys should try a new SIM first. I saw a thread of people losing connection on Vodafone and a new SIM fixed it for all them
Well I just received my replacement
I will fill you all in. If it doesnt work I will activate my iphone 4s and put the micro sim in an adapter and test it in the SGN to see if its sim related.
Same problem here!
I've the same problem as tweedie's...
Seems to lose signal most of the time after waking up the phone.
could anyone told me how to fix this, of if it goes away with your replacement?
( in other words, I wan to know if this is a bug of ICS v.4.0.1, or a hardware problem)
I received a replacement same issues happening.
Have a trouble ticket open on Google with many replies but no help from Google.
I have been using the adr rom and the xxkk6 radio and seems to be a bit better.

Romler, i took the phone back to store for replacement. Had no trouble since then which must be three weeks ago now.
It MUST be hardware related. Both had same stock rom, had little software installed, same location and both same version of rom.
I've been with 3 UK since 22/11/11 and I have had flawless service with them with no drop of signals at all.
The only time I lost signal was in the late hours one night for a few mins. When the signal came back I noticed I'm now getting HSPA+ with speeds of about 5-6 meg where previously I was only getting HSDPA with speeds of 2-3meg. To me that's proof enough of their network upgrades.

Bah if you're on HSDPA+. Still on normal HSDPA.
As for this 3 issue, I am on 3 and I have not had any issues at all. In fact 3 are better than other networks, at least better than Orange.
Three has been rolling out the H+ network the past month so it could be part of the work they were doing.
Will the Nexus display the H+ symbol instead of the plain H next to the battery? Or is there another way to tell if your on the new network?

H is shown when connected to HSPA+ OR HSDPA
3G is shown when on a basic 3g service. Some phones drop to this to save battery when the faster speeds are not needed eg for background syncing(since the latest radio update, XXKK6, mine just switches between HSDPA and HSPA+ and very rarely shows just 3g).
G is shown when outside of the 3 network area. The phone will be using the Orange 2g network.
The status bar shows 3 when on Three, but shows 3 with another 3 below it when roaming on Orange.
If you go in to settings, about phone, status it will show the network type like below. Mine is sat on HSDPA and only switches to HSPA+ when I need to load something over the net
Connected to HSPA+

Thanks for the info. I wonder if there is a widget we could get that is shown in the status bar that shows when we are on hsdp+, then I know if my area is covered. Otherwise, by the time you go to that screen, you may be off the H+ network and back to regular.
I have a question for the lucky ones that could put their hands on this cell... did it have a sim when you tried it? Did you noticed loss of signal when holding it in some ways? I've read something on the net about poor signal on HTC One X and I'm not very happy since I've just paid for my preorder..
"I've read something on the net..." is hardly a valid claim, is it now? Why don't you at least show us where you read this and people can make an informed argument.

I'm not aware of anyone getting really hands on with the final release product, so I'd take any such grains with a pinch of salt until the real product starts getting out there and tested.
Ah yes this is a problem... I've read about this on... er a Chinese forum... if you wrap both hands tightly round the phone and then pull it in close to your chest while hanging upside down then the signal drops to just one bar... I've cancelled my pre-order as this is unacceptable to me!

Wait, nothing sucks until it is proved to suck ;-) Maybe they were false rumors... maybe they were good rumors but they were about pre-production samples..
How is the GSM/3G reception on the phone?.
Does it suffer from any signal loss due to any death grip?.
I previously had a HTC Incredible S which suffered from Incredible signal loss when i used to type sms in portrait mode while my fingers covered the lower back of the phone.....also lost wifi signals in landscape mode...
Similar issues were also reported in the last flagship HTC sensation..
Is there any issue with this phone's signal strength GSM + Wifi(in landscape) when ur fingers are placed near the top of the phone?
This can be checked from the menu *#*#4636#*#*
Pl. post ur test results so that all can benefit...
RSSI: -79 before covering top of phone in normal way when holding in landscape. While covered went to -86... Not reallyuch of a problem

Signal strength went from -91 dBm 11 ASU uncovered to -89 dbm 12 asu covered as in when holding landscape mode...

Hi guys,
After weeks of waiting, i finally got my HTC One x today.
But there is a problem.
When i put my Sim Card in , I get around 2 Bars of signal, and then it goes away and the cross comes over the bars, then the phone says ' Preparing Sim ... ' , then the 2bars appear again, then they go away and the the phone says ' Preparing Sim ... ' , and on and on and on and on again!
I am extremely sad and dissapointed. was really looking forward to this phone.
Can anyone help with this issue?
P.s. the phone is stock and untouched.
suspect some are leaving the factory with dodgy antenna's!
my telstra sim which usually has full reception is lucky to get 1 bar out of 5 on this phone. This handset will be going back on Tuesday! (after easter)
i know theres a problem with this handset as i can't see any other providers network in the network search!
Signal Strength is -107dBm 3 asu

Does that affect people living on the southern hemisphere? I live in London but I do sleep upside down.
Same reception problem. my old nokia had all 4 bars but HTC one x had only 2 when both are at same place and axis.
i had a htc evo 3d and i had excellent reception and now, with the one x, i only have 2 to 3 bars where i used to have 5 with the evo.. but, besides the number of bars, e never had a problem so far with reception or internet speed. so, i'll check this during the next days

Hi i have just done a test on mine and i am coming up witht e same issues. I had a iPhone 4 and moved to this. I had full signal at work and now only 1 / 0 bars show now.

No, I don't think it has anything to do with antenna. I have the "lost signal problem" as well, actually when my cell is "disconnected", the phone is telling me no SIM inside, and when it suddenly showed me "Preparing SIM...", I got signal again.

I had the same problem with network search not showing any other operators until I entered this code *#*#4636#*#* then changed the "Set preferred network type" from WCDMA Preferred to GSM Only. Now I can see other operators in network search.
Ive been wondering why the i747 board cannot run 3g/4g on Tmobile. The boards has the same model imprinted (i747M and t999). The thing, so far that difference them are the white labels with the build number along With ATT or TMB. If this is indeed correct then t999 software might be flash to work unless there is an external 1700 antenna, different chip soldered that is barely visible. Or a soldered point like the i9300 that activates the frequency. After all the Note 2 i317 was able to activate the AWS antennas, they're awful but it works.
Here are few images with a t999, a i747 and a i9300 board:

Any suggestions I can test it here. I have all versions available here. i work on a repair shop and i also program phones. Ive been trying to make att work on tmo. With the note 2 it worked but i got weak signal I had to create an external antenna on the R1 to get better signal.

I know that there is an option to select radios and frequency under *#2263#. You have to first unlock RAT restriction thru *#197328640#
Using the options I mentioned, you are restricted to using only that which is chosen (i.e. 3G only, 2G only, LTE only). Every time you reboot the RAT restrictions are back in place. On another note, there is a way to turn off LTE only. I know the creating the 3G apn but you get random full network drops. If you make a fake apn just naming it fake and apn name fake and save. Then select. Then go into *#*#4636#*#* and select GSM auto (PRL). You might have to play with it for a moment but it will take and then you can select WCDMA Preferred. Go back to APNs and select the normal 4G default APN. This will leave the LTE turned off until you reboot or go in and out of airplane mode.
EDIT: As far as I know these features are only available in stock rom. I have had no luck on AOSP roms at all. My guess is that it is one of three things: firmware lock, sim lock, or a missing connection on the board. Since it can be "tricked" into network preference and other sims do not seem to work, I am leaning towards some kind of firmware. Unfortunately there is not currently a version of QPST floating around that officially supports the SGS3 board so there is no way of testing from that end.
From what I understand, you use the above codes to select the proper radio frequencies and use Odin to flash a few modems. Sorry I have no idea about the details, it's something I looked into doing not never had the guts to attempt.

there were times i really wanted to just flash tmobile's cm10 rom just to test if it works (after done some research, att s3 and tmo s3 are pretty much alike but the frequencies on data)
there were also times where i wanted to mess around with the network locks too
but i never got the guts to try it, thinking it might brick my phone lol
Guys the issue lies in the antenna hardware. They are made to run on the frequency that the company that places the orders need. You would need to change the hardware antenna and then recode the board to use it. This has only been done once if I remember correctly. More as a proof of concept then anything else.

This and nothing else. If it was possible to change the radios to operate on different frequencies, through software then we wouldn't have all the different models of the s3.

And of course this is the most logical answer...
Inside the dial code *#197328640# under common>wcdma set channel we have a set 1700 band channel. however at select i get arfcn 0 is invalid.(other options seemd to do the same) does anyone manage to find the partition that the baseband is allocated? Like the skyrocket with " dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 of=/sdcard/ATT/mdm.bin and dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 of=/sdcard/ATT/amss.bin" we are able to push the t989 baseband but instead pushing the t999 baseband on the i747.
inside this service mode there's a nv rebuild section. I haven't tried it on i727 nor i9100 but would be awesome to have such on skyrocket or i9100 when they loose imei. Im working around with these phones to find if able. Any help is appreciated

Good luck with that. I was trying to find a way to get network preferences to work thru this menu but have found no way to do so. I think it might have to be with a more current version of QPST to potentially get what I want done.

Are the chips models the same, under the white circular label?
Plus you see a difference on the board, probably it is the LTE antenna.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say that I think what you are pointing out in red arrows is an intact charging port and one that is broken off.
You may be right. I was thinking the top of the board was on top of the picture. You may be right, the board may be upside-down.
EDIT: camera can clearly be seen at the bottom of the first photo, so I guess you are right. What I'm pointing is probably the USB charger. My bad!
I checked under the white labels and both chip have the same #numbers except on the bottom (Red square on the picture below). However this # changes in every board i have here. Only top numbers stays the same.

An advice: you should spend more time looking at PCBs and spec sheets
What you're looking at is a NAND Flash chip, and the markings that differ are the serial numbers. The bigger, square one [K3PE0E000A-XG(2)] right by its side is the RAM chip. You can also see the Qualcomm MSM8960 (Snapdragon S4), not too far from them, square and about half their size.
Actually, if you want to look at the radios, you're on the wrong side of the board. Flip it over, remove the shield (the SIM card holder sits on it), and you'll be graced with the radio/amplifier/transceiver chips. As for the antennas, they're not on the main board, but rather embedded in the bottom of the back frame covering the board (when disassembling it), and making contact with the two golden contacts of the pcb on one side of the micro-USB connector (radio-side of the board). Btw, the I9300 board you have already has its shield removed.

Update
I dont know if anyone noticed this but few days ago i found a particular soldered points on different s3 board each labeled A, T. M.
I will be testing switching the soldered point to see if it affects or helps the software with the GSM/UMTS bands

My bad! I was stuck thinking on the M in the model
Hello. I have an unlocked i9195 on CM13 official. I currently live in the north of England, and I use the network called giffgaff (O2). I would like to know if any baseband would do or there are specific ones for these circumstances, like os version, location, network. I have bad signal most of the time. LTE does not work 98% of times, WCDMA around 50% and GSM works almost always. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for your attention.
i am also on Giffgaff in the midlands. i9195LTE
running TWRP 3.0.3.0 , AOKP official rom 20170202 , remix N v0.6 kernel.
baseband I9195XXUCPI1.tar.MD5 [Vodaphone] latest for this phone ( i believe). from sammobile/firmware ( saw thread here XDA about updating Baseband)

I have the latest BTU version of the baseband installed it's from around 2015 been working fine here.
Its probably a coverage issue I recommended trying other carriers to find out which suits your needs best.
I myself am using unlimited data plan on Three, works wonders.

Any should work, though generally it's recommended you keep your ROM and baseband to a similar release date, especially if you are having issues. Are you still on the original baseband?
You should be getting good converge on O2 or are you in a remote hilly area or near some other source of interference?
Else it could be hardware eg damaged component or poor grounding of aerial or pcb to phone ground plane. (cleaning contacts and/or tightening screws may help)

No I am not on the original baseband. I9195XXUCPE1 currently. Regarding the coverage, I checked on their website and the area its pretty well covered for 4G reception, nonetheless I believe there is probably something wrong with the phone itself, I will probably just give up on this phone and spare myself some days of calamity.
Anyways thanks for your reply.

yes, sounds likely that it is hardware. A quick test you could do is pop the back cover off and connect a small wire to the test connector (at bottom level with the speaker) bypassing the actual antenna, if your signal strength improves then it is proof it is your antenna circuit where the problem is or the contacts.
You can also test by pressing down where the "touch" connectors are., see vid, sometimes it improves reception showing it's a bad connection with contacts.
This is often easily fixed by removing the inner cover & cleaning the contacts or applying a little more pressure to them with a little piece of plastic between them and the cover.
You can see from this video that the antenna are simply a "touch" connection to the main assembly.
about 2mins into the vid
should be a cheap fix at a repair shop if you don't fancy trying it yourself, if this is what it is.
Hi fellow's, I'm trying to find a way to identify which model of the Zenfone 5 supports LTE Band 20. I heard that there are 3 different versions, a/b/c, from which 2 support LTE Band 20. How can I identify the right model? Do the have different serial numbers or anything like that? Maybe one of you can share their package (or rather the back of it) or phone information.
Or is there an app to check which Bands are supported?
Thanks ins advance

A is the eurppean version.
B is the Global version. So if you don't buy it from local carriers (or through official channels), then you'll find this global version.
Currently there is no version for USA 4G.
This thread mentions the 5 but just to add some more info...the 5z supports more bands as listed here (https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-5Z-ZS620KL/Tech-Specs/). All 3 versions support band 20.
I'd also like to know the answer to this question. I've bought one from China and am not sure if it supports the LTE band I need. What makes it worse is that it doesn't show what whether the phone is on 2G, 3G or 4G next to the mobile signal strength on the screen. I've never seen a phone do this. Is this normal on this phone? Is there a way to get to show it on screen?
Mine arrived a few days ago and the supported Bands were on the back of the package. I got a taiwanese version without Band 20/800mhz but I can identify wether I'm in 3G or 4G

Do you have WiFi turned on? I don't have a sim in my 5 at the moment but I seem to recall it showing 4G, etc. next to the mobile signal strength if WiFi was turned off.
Thanks guys. Yep, I had WiFi turned on. I turned it off there it was "H". WTF is that all about!! You can't see whether you're on 2G, 3G or 4G unless you have WiFi turned off??!! Terrible design decision because I have WiFi on all the time, as do most of us, and I need to know what "G" I'm on as it affects data transfer, essential for my work......anyway, I also looked on the back of the box and there it is Band 20 is missing (the most popular 4G band in the UK). Great. Another ridiculous design design decision. And to add insult to injury the fingerprint sensor is poor. Only work 6/10 times. I'd seen this on reviews but figured they weren't doing it right. I've re-entered fingerprints a few times now and makes no difference. My old Honor 7 and my lads Xiaomi phone work 10/10 and lightning quick so there's no excuse........So the phone is going back......to China. Wonder if I'll ever see my money again.

All my previous Android phones worked this way. You can't see 2G/3G/4G, while you're on Wi-Fi. It's not ASUS's design, it's Android default design.
Indeed Band 20 is missing if you bought the Global version. If you want B20, you have to buy it officially from your local carrier/store, because that's the one made for EU.
EDIT: Before I consufe someone, let me clarify. What I said is only true for the Zenfone 5, because all versions of the Zenfone 5Z supports B20.

Try to switch on WiFi (disconnect LAN cable from gateway) + Mobile Data
If it's not available, flash custom ROM/stock ROM (not sure if it's available) and there is an option called 'Smart Network Switch'

Ahh, indeed. So if you're on wi-fi, but there's no connection behind it, it should show a "!" next to the wi-fi and show 2/3/4G on the network. That's right, it's just not something that happens to me very often (or ever...).
But, yes that's a bug, I'll report it early tomorrow. Also the problem is different. It doesn't show 2/3/4G, because it stays on wi-fi and if I try to load a website it says it's unavailable, because I'm offline, so the bug is, that the phone doesn't switch from wi-fi to mobile network if the wi-fi doesn't have a connection.
I'm pretty sure it'll get fixed.
So are they making a version with the bands needed for TMobile and att?

Agreed...version C is the best. From what I can tell, all the ones available for sale to this point are A versions (at least from what the website listings have shown). According to an ASUS person on Zentalk, the US version will be the B variant. I'd buy one in a second if I could find either the B or C version online anywhere.
Why can't manufactures just suck it up and support every available band? I believe IPhones do it and I think the unlocked Galaxy S9+ does, too.

They pay for licensing to enable all bands. Cheaper to do without.
If you don't make your own SoC like Huawei or Samsung, you need to pay for more bands. It's not a lot but just for example 10$ per device and you sell millions...
When I click that link and look at version c I'm not seeing all those bands u have on your screenshot
