[Q] Handcent causing partial wakelock? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have Badass Battery and Better Battery Stats installed to figure out what is causing wakelocks. It seems that Handcent popup is causing partial wakelocks and it is really draining my battery. Is anyone else seeing this? Any solution?

Turn off the pop up setting I'd think is the only option.

Yeah, but I was hoping that I could continue to use the popup without the wakelock.

Any resolution to this besides turning that option off?

GoSMS is better.

Gosms has become too bloated. Its saving grace however is that it has no wake lock issues. Still, this thread is about handent, not gosms

Bloated? As long as you run "Normal" or "Lite" mode, there's not bloat, only "Pro".
But, I said GoSMS is better because its an easier alternative than dealing with wake locks from Handcent and possibly Chomp SMS as well.

Thanks for that post! Just switched to GoSMS Pro and Normal mode, voila. Perfect and no more wakelock issues! My battery and I thank you

Damn. and here I was thinking it was lightflow causing the wakelock. I have been using the handcent pop up for a few years now. Never noticed it till lately that something was up with my battery. Wierd...
Thanks for the help though

Handcent SMS Wakelock'ing phone.

Recently i've noticed that handcent is putting my phone into a wake lock as soon as i receive a text message. This is causing my battery to drain if I don't read my text messages as soon as I get them. At first I thought it might be because I had the popup notification on, someone suggested that it could be the problem. So I turned that off and turned all notifications off except for the LED blink and notification bar icon. But for some reason it is still putting my phone into a wake lock, i've tried everything and nothing seems to fix it.
My question is, does anyone else also experience this problem? Is there any known fix for it? Or will I just have to stop using handcent all together?
I noticed the same thing and I believe it's the LED light that's waking up the phone. Try chompsms. I noticed less battery drain and spareparts seemed to agree.

Are you some kind of mind reader?
That's EXACTLY what I was trying now. Just downloaded chompsms and watching it closely in spare parts.
They updated it December 11th. Anyone know if it fixes the wakelock? Getting sick of having to manually split my SMS messages on CM 6.1.
Fred, as of the most current update, v3.5.2 seems to still suffer from the wakelock issue if popups are enabled.
Researching chompsms before I spend the time to install/reconfigure.
Lol that post is from a while ago but thanks. I use GO SMS now. Much better.
Fred, no wakelock issues, even with popup (or gosms's equivalent) enabled? Been scrutinizing every app I put on to make sure it isn't a hog.
Hasn't given me any trouble, no. Just be sure to enable "CDMA Split" in sending options.

Is there a wakelock problem in latest handcent?

I realised recently that process "UID 10111" has been responsible for massive partial wakelock on my phone. It can hold 47min wakelock in 2 hours of uptime. Found out that the process is handcent.
Anyone using handcent also noticed this process taking up huge wakelock in spareparts? Are there any fixes? Emailed the developer but haven't had a response yet.
Yeah, I had the same issue. Especially using "new message" popup, when
you receive new message, Handcent keeps the phone awake until you
unlock it and dismiss popup - fastest way to get your battery dead
overnight when SMS arives while you are sleeping.
Switched to GO SMS, never going back.
How did you determine it was Handcent?
Under partial wake lock in Spare Parts I have UID 10036 and I'm curious as to what it is.

Download this app called Activity Express Manager. It will show u list of processes. Click and hold a process to select the details and you can see the uid of every process...you cannot know how long I took to find a way to identify the uid!!

Thanks dude!! GO SMS is really good!! Same functionality but so much faster and snappier..and yes..no wakelock. Guess I won't be looking back also.
I had this problem too, caused me to switch to a different SMS app. Really a shame - handcent is excellent.
same thing for me.. switch to Go sms due to this bug.. good riddance to handcent!

[Q] Battery issues with CM7 alpha anyone?

I've had CM7 on my t989 since the day after alpha 2 came out, and I've never had any serious issues I haven't been able to solve.
I've been trying to track down what's causeing my phone to stay awake, and I can't figure it out at all. In the android battery usage, it shows that my phone is almost always awake when it's sitting in my pocket with nothing running, even after a fresh reboot. No relevant application shows up in either the 'partial wake usage' list or the main android battery usage list.
Is there a way to get more accurate information about partial wake usage or per application usage then I'm aware of? I'm currently using Battery Monitor Widget to figure this stuff out.
I could be an application I have installed that is causing it, but how would it be ducking the android battery usage monitor AND the partial wake usage list?
Anyone else experience something like this?
If you go to Settings, About phone, Battery Usage, what are the top apps?

Try Better Battery Stats. It has really helped me increase my phone's deep sleep.

There are apps there, but they aren't the ones that are draining my battery, considering none of them are the ones keeping my phone awake while the screen is off and it's idle.
There is battery usage going on that isn't listed on the battery usage page, which is why I made the thread.

I've used better battery stats, it exposed the same information that battery monitor widget does, just in a much less user friendly way.
What ever is keeping the wake lock, my phone isn't tracking it, making me think it's something in the OS, not an app I have installed.
I'm willing to bet its something with calls/proximity sensors. Is Android system 2nd on battery usage behind display?

Yeah, android system is almost always second, is there anything I can do to help that besides switch back to a samsung rom?
Is this happening with other people on CM7 alpha with this phone?

It happens on a bunch of phones with cm7. Not just this one. There's really nothing you can do about it. Are you getting that bad of battery life?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Yeah, the battery life is really bad sometimes, but other times it's fine.
So no one knows the cause? It just happens? I'm confident CM9 will fix it, mostly because they have the ground up reword the ROM to make it work.

The times its good is when you don't make many calls? Or your calls or later in the day? What happens is after you make a call there is a partial wake lock triggered by the proximity sensor. Pay attention to that.

Thanks, does restarting after a call solve the partial wake lock?

no battery issue but i can't make calls.

[Q] Galaxy Note II battery drain -- Polaris constantly running

So my father recently got the GN2, but he's really disliking the battery drain compared to his old iPhone 4. He said that he could finish the day with about 70% battery leftover, whereas, Note leaves him with around 30-40%. I checked his battery usage and there's about 12-17% coming from Polaris 4.0. I already disabled it, but for some reason, it's still draining his battery. Is there anything I can do to improve his overall battery life as well as stop Polaris from being used?
Uninstall it or is it a stock app?

Stock app, unfortunately. I have no intention of rooting it since I haven't done that in a long time and I'm just not confident with messing around with someone else's phone.
Also, I know it's a problem specific to mine since other people don't root there's and they don't have this problem.
Does anyone else know a possible issue?
Try going in and force stopping the app. I noticed apps will continue to run after disabled on occasion. Then reboot and see if it fires up again. That should stop the battery drain. N2 gets great battery life.
Does your father use the app? If not go to settings/application manager select polaris. You should see a disable or uninstall updates button. If it is the updates one, select it then go back in and hit disable button after it is done. This will remove the app from the system but not the app file itself. Will keep it from ever running again until you decide to enable it again. No root needed.

Yeah, I already disabled it. I checked again today and it didn't seem to be draining battery life.
After around 12 hours of use, he only has around 60-65% left. He doesn't use the phone as much as some other people, so I'm surprised it drains as much as it does.
I'd say that's about right on stock with everything running. you could always disable everything he doesn't use and see if that helps. Also check for wake locks. I disabled fast dormancy and saw a major improvement on wake locks. Not sure if that's possible without root, but worth looking in to.

Root, install Better Battery Stats, find the culprit. If uninstalling Polaris doesn't help, it could be something else.
S-Pen detection, motion settings, smart-stay, etc are all drainers. Disable them if he doesn't use them.
Location services drain too. Try installing Autostarts and disable unnecessary startups. I get a good 2-2.5 days out of the phone with ~5+ hours of screen time after doing the above.

Good point on the S-Pen features. I disabled some. His active battery usage is quite good, but he says the standby is terrible.

Annoying battery thread

Whats normal battery on this phone for you guys like? I really don't think mines normal. I've never gotten 10+ hours battery life on a custom ROM. never, and I flash like crazy, I've tried cm aokp aosp Jedi cm, ics tw ROMs, and Jb tw ROMs. Never over 10 and on tw jb I wouldn't even get over 5 hours, I'm not a heavy user, I check twitter sometimes and Facebook, a tiny bit of instagram.. not that much, with juice defender pro I can squeeze 7 hours from Jb touchwiz, and maybe 9 on an ICS ROM.. is my battery dicked? Stock koodo ROM gives me 14+ hours, so wtf? Maybe just a koodo t989d problem? My battery is physically in shape, I've monitored wake locks, checked chargers, virtually everything. WTF?

You need gsam and CPU spy to see what's draining your battery and if phone is deep sleeping.
The apps you said you use are pretty much big battery drainers BTW! I finally got my wife using the mobile Facebook webpage instead of the app. It was killing her battery and using all kinds of data while she was at work not even using her phone.
But yeah....your battery life is horrendous. Something is going on.
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
I have both, my phone deep sleeps. I've even UNDERCLOCKED! Still **** battery life. I'm not so big on Facebook, I don't use it too much really. Twitter though I am on a lot.

Im running the Unicef Rom v13.5 and I have been getting around 22 hours of use with around an hour and a half or two hours of screen time. I aslo just flashed it so I have to let it break in to get the full benefits. But yeah you should try checking out Anker Batteries and monitor what is using up your battery. Juice Defender I found is a big battery drainer and are you in an area with low reception?
Okay, uninstalled juice defender. I was thinking of getting the extended galaxy nexus battery, but will it really make a big difference?

Make sure you go into your apps like FB and twitter and turn off all notifications. notifications will kill your battery life.
Also, check apps that sync. you can go into your google accounts setting and turn off stuff you don't use or need to sync automatically, like google drive (just sync manually).
And turn off backups in the system settings.
lots of apps are configured to update automatically or configured to send error/usage reports, so make sure you go in to your apps and look for settings like that and turn them off.
THANK YOU
