Yesterday I let my Lumia battery drain 100%, disregarding the warning that it was critically low. Eventually the screen no longer accepted touch gestures and it shutdown.
I plugged it into the wall charger and it now continuously boots, keys light up, white screen comes on and the charging battery (red) is displayed. A couple of minutes later it goes black, the Nokia logo comes up, then it sits on the At&t splash screen for 5 minutes and reboots. It has been doing this non-stop all night.
I have tried different chargers and even connected to my laptop. no luck.
I noticed on Nokia's site, people have been having this problem too, even with the 800. There is a few suggestions, but no solution.

I let my drain completely the other day and it charged back up just fine. Make sure you're using the supplied wall charger - it's actually rated at a higher amperage than most wall charges, 750 mA vs. 500 mA for most chargers.
This happened to me the first day I hot the phone and was able to charge and turn and turn back on with no problems.

have you just let it sit for awhile...I mean more than 45 seconds? You drained the battery. You plugged it in. The default action on Windows Phone is to start when plugged into a power source. Obviously its not charged enough to sustain that action. Let it go at least 20 minutes....if not more. Some people here have mentioned it took 2 hrs for it successfully complete that cycle. And by all means, use the supplied charger, or, at least one that pumps out an equiv charge. Alot of those Amazon $1.99 specials, simply do not.
My Nokia Round wall plug actually was not working when I first got it, so I've been using my Blackberry and other usb's to charge, including just a usb to my Dell XPS 15 laptop.
Nokia is 5v 1A
Blackberry is 5v 700mA
Jawbone is 5v 550mA
Motorola Car Charger is 5v 950mA (I spend an hour in my car and same looping)
I have a replacement device coming either today or tomorrow because of the charger problem. Hopefully the new one will be able to charge this one so I can get my media off it.

Yes, it has happened before (there is a thread here) and I did witness my co-worker's phone went through the same thing. Unfortunately, for both cases, the only solution is get a replacement phone. In my co-worker's case, he used the Nokia charger charged it for many many hours to no avail.
So the bottom line is NEVER let your battery drain completely. You may ended up with a dead phone.
Same Issue
My phone has the same issue. It can literally cycle from glow screen to battery icon screen to reboot for more than an hour. It happens with the supplied charger as well as my Samsung Focus charger. I find that I can hold the power button down after it has charged for a few minutes and it breaks the cycle and reboots properly.
Well I got my replacement Lumia 900 today. The wall charger is recognized by my old Lumia, however it is still doing the boot up loop and it hangs on the At&t screen when plugged in.
I will let it go for a few hours and see if anything happens. If nothing, I will try to do a hard reset and wipe all my data and see.
I'm not sure that the labeling on the Nokia charger is accurate. I'm sure it is with regards to testing, but in practice my 900 will not charge at a rate higher than 650ma when plugged into that charger, however when plugged into my 2A touchpad charger it charges at rates of 850-900ma. Perhaps get yourself an aftermarket iPad charger, I think those have pretty high amperage and see what you get then.

You have hte keystroke combo for reset??? Should be done from a power off postion. Hopefully the charge is not too low to do this...
I have tried various key combos to reset, while in fully off and while on the logo and battery screens. After I hold for +20 sec and let go, it vibrates then tries to start up. None of these fixes anything. I am using Volume Down and Power Button.
So I left it on the replacement Lumia's charger overnight and it still sits on the at&t screen during boot. I also put it on a Apple iPhone charger, which it 5v 1A, and it eventually drained all the way to where only the keys would light up.
The one thing I noticed, is that the lumia responded differently to each charger. Some would get it to the batter screen, then reboot. Some would get it to the at&t screen, then reboot.
I tested the output of each charger by using the Nokia Diagnostics tool with my new Lumia. Most were 4.020~ volts and 200-400 mA, including the Apple charger.
The Lumia 900 charger rated around 4.020~ volts and 500-700 mA.
I have a Onda Android tablet charger that was 5.2v 1A, but rated at 4.065 volts and 700mA. That didn't work either.
...And now with my replacement lumia, I no longer have the loud rattle, but I do have the purple hue everyone is talking about. btw, the new one had the green dot on the box.

Try, from an off position, Vol Down +Camera...keep these down. Press power until the vibrate, then release. Keep the other 2 buttons down. Whenthe Nokia screenappears, you can release all buttons.
Works every time....queston is...do you have enough charge to allow this to occur.
There is a thread here on the button combo's. I started it, but there is alot of good feedback in the thread.
Sounds like OP's Lumia behaves exactly like my co-worker's. No button combo will work to reset the phone.

button combo is not the only thing important. Its sequence and starting postion.
If the phone is on, turn it off. If its frozen, hold the power button until it turns off...about 10 seconds or so.
Once off, then the combination Vol Down+ Camera. Hold these until told to release.
Touch the power button to turn on...release at the vibrations...
Continuing to hold the Vol Down+Camera, wait until the Nokia screen. Then you can release. You'll be put through the setup sequence again.
Works every time, like a charm, but, the phone must be off.

Yeah we did exactly that. Doesn't help. It doesn't work for every phone. Just like some L900s can be charged up and boot normally. Some can never recover. The manufacturing quality of Lumia 900 with so many variations of bugs should put Nokia in shame. I personally have to exchange mine because of the random capacity button issue.
So that is 2 for 2 in my own observations.
Well I must say adieu to this phone and my pictures. Nothing seemed to work, so I sent it back.
Holding Power and the Camera button got me to the "download mode", Zune opened, and I then tried to restore to previous version, however it decided to reboot 30% into the process. Most likely due to it not having enough charge.
I got my SkyDrive set up on the new device. So no more losing any data if something fails again.
i would have to agree with the guy that posted second the phone is rated for a higher powered charger. but i would try looking at the specs of the wall charger amps and watts see if thats correct for the phone and if thats true try looking into the usb port on the phone for dust and lint. maybe even try another battery

The wall charger is 5v 1 amp... nothing special there. My HTC chargers all handled that and were easily more.

Same thing happened to me.
Using phone, the battery was ultra low, figured I'd plug it in when it started to complain, but never received any messages. The phone just turned off.
Plugged it in:
1) 5 minutes, screen didn't come on
2) Out nowhere, backlight turns on for a minute
3) backlight turns off for 4 minutes
4) I unplug it, as I do it vibrates and backlight turns on
5) plug it back in, backlight turns off
6) 5 minutes later, battery image shows up on screen in red, disapeers after a minute
7) Phone sat for 5 minutes doing nothing, I unplug and plug back in, it turns on, goes to the battery on screen again for 10 minutes.
8) Finally Windows Phone starts up, it starts presenting battery errors (even though it's plugged in). Finally after 60 seconds it makes the plugging in sound, and starts charging.
I google'd and found this thread! Weird!
Another thing I noticed, is even when battery is fine, and you plug it in there's a delay before device recognizes it. Seems like there's something going on between hardware and software, just like the delay with the touchscreen (which is aggravating)...

I have a strange issue that my Samsung Focus used to get when it was first released. The Focus was later fixed with a Firmware update.
When I plug in my power cord, SOMETIMES, the screen becomes unresponsive, or glitchy. Also, instead of charging my phone, it starts to drain the battery. I can watch the Diagnosis app (##634#), and it is pulling charge, instead of pushing it. If I unplug and restart my phone, then plug it back in, it starts charging it normally.
Also, when I power off my phone while it's plugged into power, it goes into a reboot loop showing battery empty, even though the battery is fully charged (or, sometimes, it locks up and I have to unplug to restart). I have to unplug the cord and restart, or it never powers back on.
I've already tried multiple Hard Resets, and still happening. I'll keep an eye on this, and see if anyone else is having the same problem. If not, I might exchange it. If others are, then I will expect Nokia to fix it shortly and I won't stress about it yet.

Which charger/cable are you using? I found that I had this problem with my e900 using a cheap third party charger. I'm having the same issue with my Lumia now, but on a different charger (that was working fine on the e900). Going to the first party charger or playing around with another one I had at home seemed to solve the issue.

Yes, I did notice it's mostly a third party charger. But it also does it on the PC USB port. Likely due to low amperage too. I understand the lumia has a large power requirement, but the PC USB port should not cause it. Its not like they will never be used on PC USB power.
Like I said above, my Focus had the same issue, and they fixed it with a firmware update. I'm sure Nokia will do the same.

I had an issue just now while charging my Lumia 900. The battery was around 15% so I plugged it in for a charge. I went to look at something on the phone a few times while plugged in and the first few it was fine. Then on the third time I couldn't get any response at all from the phone. I unplugged it and had to hold the power button for a long time to get it to come back on. This is the first "issue" that I've experienced with this phone since getting it on Friday. I haven't had any data issues or anything else that some others are seeing. Not sure why it happened but I'm concerned it might not be an isolated incident.
At this point this has only happened once and while charging. Not sure if its related to being plugged in or if it could happen while under normal use yet.
my battery was critically low and the screen became unresponsive..it just froze on whatever I was doing and it wasn't responding to any of the commands..so I had to hold the power button for a long time and restart it..but upon restart it did it again..then I plugged in my charger and it was fine after that...does the lumia charge while off? or is the phone supposed to be on whilst charging?
Those are the exact symptoms my Samsung Focus had until they fixed it via Firmware.
Windows phones only charge while on. If the battery is exceptionally low, it will charge just enough to be able to power itself on, then it will finish charging while on. It's designed that way. I'm looking forward to firmware and software updates, which will only make this phone better. Or, if we get to upgrade to Apollo, woohoo!
Still love this phone though, even w the charging glitches.
Today I had my One X happily connected to my pc, just transferring some files over by USB. Then when I wanted to disconnect it, it showed a lot of 'not getting enough current to charge and operate at the same time' messages. Dismissed them all, though it was time to put it on the wall charger, seen it's critical battery status.
Once I disconnected the phone, it immediately powered off and would not come back to life again. It was, however, greeting me with a flashing red light while on the wall charger. No matter what I tried (bootloader, long hold power button, charge it for some time), it remained completely dead.
Now I did get some new micro usb cables from eBay. Very cheap ones. Now I think these are the culprit. Apparently, while in file transfer mode, these cables were unable to provide sufficient current, causing the phone to drain the battery completely. Once I wanted to charge it, it couldn't boot to charger mode due to the battery being completely empty.
Hooking up with the original HTC cable again, it still showed the red flashing light. Exact same behavior. Until I (for the heck of it) tried to bash the power button quickly. It suddenly came back to life again and started charging again through PC.
If you find yourself in the same situation with bad USB leads (something to do with resistance of the cable?) or a red blinking light, try tapping the power button quickly instead of trying to boot into recovery mode. It might save you a postal return and a week or 3. Or your ass, if you rooted it before it stopped charging.
When I had my sensation I had this every now and then. I had to remove the battery to get it to work.. Nice to know that there appears to be something I can do to sort this out if I get this now

It was mentioned that the flashing red (or orange?) meant that the temp was too high.
Just let it cool down, and it will come back.
It definitely wasn't hot. Also, it wasn't flashing orange. Just slowly red.

Your quite right. Overheating on charge flashes red then green. Never seen a flashing red so can't comment

It could well be the battery level is considered too low to operate. So to protect the circuit and the battery, the device is not allowed to turn on until it is sufficiently charged.
This is currently (no pun intended) happening to my one x, left it plugged into my pc via the htc usb and got flashing red light after a couple of minutes, after a couple of minutes more it stopped flashing and became a solid red light (a sign it is charging from v low battery from m experience) pressed the power button and voilà its come back on. I can't believe htc would let the device get to such a critical state of battery before powering down, can anyone enlighten me as to why it would do this?
(thinking about it i was showcasing the handset to my apple touting buddy and had 3 pretty heavy apps running, it was a couple of hours after i noticed it had killed itself so i'm guessing they were still draining away the power from the background??)
I'm having the same problem. My phone was off when i got home and it wouldn't turn on (I assume the battery was dead). When I put it on the wall charger the red the red light didn't turn on and my phone wouldn't boot. I tried several chargers and cables and also tried to connect it to my pc. After leaving the phone for a few hours (unplugged) i tried to connect it to my pc again and i got the blinking red light. A few minutes later I decided to plug it into the wall and the red light turned on and now it is working normally.

Poor quality charging/data cable
A poor quality charging/data cable will also impact the ability to charge the HOX in your car. I have two cars, in one I was using an old Blackberry cable and Griffin charge adapter (1amp output) to charge the phone whilst using Car Dock and navigation software. After trial and error I got the screen brightness correct and the phone charged satisfactorily. I say satisfactorily because I still think any electronic device which is connected to an external power supply of sufficient electrical current should operate and charge at full spec. In my other car (1996 Land Rover Discovery) I was using a cheap ebay charging/data cable. Using the same apps and screen brightness the HOX would lose all charge over about a two hour period. With the same Blackberry cable used in my other car, no problem. Hence the cheap ebay cables are now in the bin.

The HTC-cable isn't that good too. I use a Nokia-charger to charge my HOX. Charging is much quicker. Maybe the HTC--charger (and cable) was crappy but i never touch them, i use the Nokia charger and dito USB cable.

Small update.
This problem just happened to me. 1 cord gave me flashing red while plugged into the wall and pc. I switched to my other cable and its charging and functioning normally. Cord was the problem.
I had a similar issue with my one x.
It discharged completely, then when I went to charge it I just got the red blinking light for ages. I left it charging overnight thinking the battery was so low it needed a while to charge enough to be able to switch on.
But in the morning it was still flashing and the phone was very hot, so I thought the battery was blown.
So I came on here and saw a suggestion about holding the power button and the volume down button. It went to the boot menu and said there was not enough power for a factory reset or something, so I selected recovery. I then got a warning icon and the phone switched off again, but this time with a solid red light. A
After a while I was able to turn it back on again.

I have the HTC One VX. I know this isn't in the same topic, but since I found the thing that helped/worked here, I thought I should share my experience. So I bought my new phone on Sunday, so it is roughly 5 days old...not even a full week. I charged the phone before I went to bed to roughly 80%. I made sure all apps and what not were turned off and pressed the lock button. I woke up in the morning and checked my phone to see what time it was. Had 78% battery left. I left it on my dresser for roughly 2 hours and when I got back from class, I grabbed my phone to check if I had any messages.
The phone didn't turn on and I didn't even get the flashing orange/red light. So I tried charging it and nothing. I changed wires and nothing. I frantically searched the internet and stumbled upon this forum/thread. I tapped the power button at least 15 times consecutively and the phone barely flashed orange. I tried to plug it in again and rapidly pressed the power button 10 more times and the screen finally turned on. It started charging and I checked the battery life. Somehow, in 2 hours my phone drained itself of 78% battery life when it was on the lock screen (its also set to lock after 15 seconds of inactivity) to the point where it couldn't even turn on.
The phone/battery was not even warm/hot or w/e. It had not touched any water. No idea what caused the immense power drain, but glad it is working. Thank you so much for this help

It happens to me allso in this morning, in my opinion is like this: The phone is turning off when basicly you have a little bit batt (lets say something around 5% max) and its turning off to protect data and is showing to you batt empty. Then it cames a user with a charger connected to a power supply (house charger,car charger or directly to pc's usb). You must use a good usb to micro-usb charger (the original ones are't good usb cables) try to use a Nokia usb to micro-usb cable, This was the first problem most usualy. The second one is to pay a HUGE attention to UC, don't uc'it so much because then the charger board will not charge your batt so well. Keep yours HOX safe and anjoy it. Just got my M8 first time I turn it on it had half charged battery. I drained it to a point when I turned it on two times and than it went dead. I mean I could not turn it on. When I connected the charger no light came on and no response from phone. I leave it till toomorow and see if it will turn on.
I fear HTC is using the same chip for controling battery charge in M8 which if flawed by infamous HTC charging bug. If this is the case it is really start annoyng me and htc m8 will be my last HTC phone. I had so far Wildfire, Sensation ,Desire and all off them had a charging bug. Wildfire and Desire would not show the battery full even though battery voltage was at full charge. My luck? Or HTC has some poor quality components? My S2 still charges battery fine till today.
Ok. Anyone can check their M8 if you have charge bug if you battery is almost drained off power if it will turn on or stay dead?
If my won't wake up tommorow after all night at charging I'm gona exchange it on warranty and see another sample has the same charge bug.
Why HTC is not doing something with this CHARGE BUG on the newest devices? Puzzeles me.
I brought mine to 1%, cycled the power, then used it again till it died. Plugged it in, charging icon came on right away, charging light as well. Hope this answers your question, I didn't really read the whole post.

My M8 has just died because it wont charge, happened just yesterday. I left it plugged in over night and still nothing. Its a holiday here at the moment so have to wait until Wednesday for HTC to open.
Possibly The same Problem, Possibly Not?

I've been having loads of problems having unlocked, rooted, S-Off, SuperCID & installing the ARHD ROM on my M8 (International) but it was, in a fashion, working. I too am on holiday & whilst I now know why I was having the issues & have the solution to them, I didn't have time before I left to resolve them. So, I brought it away with me to use for basic currency conversion & translation tasks & it was, as I say, functional. Last night, I decided to play a game on it & it was being laggy but I put this down to the issues I've been having, so didn't worry. It kept being laggy, so I tried restarting it to see if that would help but once it had powered down, it took ages to reboot, so I tried using the power button to switch it on. Again, it took ages & I briefly fell asleep but when I woke up, it had booted back into ARHD, so I figured all was okay.
However, when I awoke this morning, the device would not switch on. I plugged it in to see if something had caused the battery to drain during the night but nothing happens; the charging light doesn't come on & it doesn't power up, no matter how long I leave it! It is, to all intents & purposes, behaving as though it is dead (bricked?) but I don't know why it should suddenly do this, which is why I was looking for answers & came across this thread.
If anyone has any bright ideas, I'd be more than grateful to hear them
Mine needed a replacement charging board and chip unfortunately but HTC Vietnam was pretty fast, only took 3 days so wasn't too painful.

Yes, this sounds like a very isolated bug/defect. Since it is not reported by very many, the best course of action is RMA. ?
My T-mobile HTC ONE M8 has done this as well, however I was after serveral hours of trying everything I could think of, connecting it to the computer and various chargers and trying to hold volume up and power and replugging it to charger, it finally started charging. This has happened 2 times in the last 2 weeks.
Now that it's charging I wonder if HTC will take it and replace the charging board or battery. I also worry that I have it rooted and s=off that they won't honor the warranty.
There is something similar to this going on with mine - Was charging (maybe quite slowly), battery very low, phone reset. Booted into charging screen, amber light flashing. After a while (and trying to boot a few times), no light, nothing. Charge current is 0.00A
Edit: I remember something like this with the old Desire - there was a trick to reset the charging circuit, which was maybe locked up and not getting a good po_reset, so never enabling any charge. Something along the lines of unplug, hold some buttons for some time, plug, profit... Does anyone remember this in detail?

I have a particular case. My phone is a HTC One M8, but I have protected it with a special case with a battery extension, home made. I have assembled myself the batteries, chargers and boosters. My booster has a small issue and does not enter safe mode when battery is low. It warns about low batt with a LED, but still tries to deliver 5V. The booster is connected to the phone via a flat cable, stolen from a wireless charger; those chargers have the smallest USB plus I could find ever, and, I found this plug only in these decvices.
When the main battery of the phone is empty, I switch the booster on, and recharge the phone with the backpack. I have to look at the LED; when it's red, I have to switch it off. Everynight, everything get charged on the same single plug. One plug to charge both batts.
The advantages of my solution are:
- phone can last 18h with heavy work (wifi, bluetooth, GPS, and screen on, continuously)
- heavy case to protect my phone, plus tampered glass
- one plug to charge everything
- the micro-micro USB plug is ALWAYS in the phone. This means, the female plug of phone can not get dirty, or filled with dust. I never unplug it, so it does not age. I never plug a classic USB cable directly in the phone, so, no chance to break it. I have broken 3 or 4 times the back charger plug; if I am in hurry, I can exceptionally charge the phone directly; next day home, I can fix it.
This night, I was using my phone, and switched the backpack on. I could not plug my wall charger, because it's home made, has an issue, and makes the virtual keyboard erratic. I fell asleep with the phone in my hand, and the backpack went red ... for 4 hours. During 4 hours, it was trying to deliver 5V, and failed at so. Since my battery was delivering an unstable +5V, the phone was trying to charge, was staying on, but could not properly charge. In the end, all batteries got flat.
This morning, when I woke up, I plugged the stuff; only the back-batt started charging. Phone itself refused to charge; screen was black, and charging LED stayed off. So, I fell in what we call the "phone refuses to charge".
But, because of my set-up, I can *NOT* be in the dirty or broken plug case. Just impossible. And because of context, I just knew I had a flatt battery. This is technically called "deep discharged". And it contributes to aging of batt. Like overcharging, this heavily affects the total capacity.
I knew I could fix the issue by opening the phone, and putting a LiPo charger directly on the batt lines. I have loads of standalone chargers. I had a standalone wall charger for my previous HTC Sensation. But with the M8, we can not just open the case, and take the batt out. It's much more complicated. So, I have been Googling for more than half an hour. 95% results were about "remove dust of plug" and "bring it to the shop to change your plug". Some people also mention "a bug in the charger chipset".
I have plugged the phone on a classic USB charger, but via an USB meter monitor:

The USB meter was indicating 5V 0.03 A (or 9V 0.01 A, depending on source). So, the phone was using a bit of energy, but clearly not charging. I have left it 4h. Just in case, can not harm.
Then, I pressed together power, and volume up. The phone started to boot after 55 or 65s. About one minute; but clearly way longer than 42 or 47s found on forums. It started directly to some rescue mode, then, started to boot normally, without doing anything. Just released buttons during the first white screen. After booting, I have a normal phone. Did not need to perform any action. During boot, the phone had 2% batt, and was charging normaly. But, the charger LED remained off; I waited 5mn, untill I got 4%, unplugged the charger, replugged, and then got the orange LED.
Remember that your M8 can accept up to 9V on input. QC2 Chargers are really faster: with 9V 1.5A, you can charge your M8 from 0% to 100% in 95mn, even if you are intensively using it (gaming, wifi, GPS). Next gen phone will accept 12V. Even if manufacturers ignore that. HTC buys chips, and don't fully read specs. Aukey chargers are more powerfull and better reliable than official HTC ones.
Remember that many "slow charging" issues are in fact due to bad cable: charger is good, phone is good, but cable in between has high gauge copper, too thin wires, and produces voltage drop between plugs. HTC phones require 4.4V at the plug.
Remember that M8 and most modern phones (same for Samsung) are now MHL (wrongly called OTG): they are true USB hosts; you can plug any device on your phone; just buy an MHL (OTG) cable for 4 euros, and then a USB hub, and then any device: mouse, keyboard, USB monitor, ethernet dongle, SATA adapter, CF-uSD adapter ... and for 12 euros you have HDMI converters. Modern smartphones are real computers. Use them.
Anyone having problems with it not powering up. It will charge to about 8-12% then shut off. It gets really hot when it's charging but I can't get anywhere with this watch. Getting really frustrated, been trying to get it work for over 5 hrs. Has anyone had this issue?

Boot it up. Press and hold power button. Chose reset device from menu. When it boots back up don't touch until charged.
Definitely had issues like this. I ultimately exchanged it (got lucky with Best Buy having it in stock) but I read here that you may want to reset it, and charge it while its completely off, to full battery, Before trying to sync and use it. My defective 360 wouldn't even factory reset, so YMMV.

Don't pair it to your phone. A service kicks off to do an update but you can't until it's 80% or more charged. As others have said, do the rest then leave it alone.
Same thing happened for me.

I'm having the exact same issue. How do you know when it is charged fully? When it is off there is no indicator of charge level. The Galaxy gear and gear live I had both had a battery icon when charging while off. I hope the battery is not a dead since the gear and live watches had awesome battery life for me...
Like a dumbass i tried to pair without fully charging it and was unsuccessful. Now the watch is dead and on the charger. Hopefully it charges or I will have to return this.
It took me about 10 attempted charging cycles over 24 hours before it worked. Usually the watch was off and it would be pretty hot. I noticed the charger was only a .5a so I changed the adapter to a 1.8a one I had. I left the watch on where the blue circle and time was showing and it charged right up from 3 to 100 in about an hour and today I used it from 2pm till 1030 pm with ambient screen and it was down to 39 now on charger for about 20 mins and it is up to 77. So far so good after a nightmarish 1st day...

It will, just wait a little while then when it is on the cradle press the power button for 3-5secs then it will come on. On the stock charger you will prob see the power circle start dropping then shut off. Plug in a higher rated Micro USB charger into the dock and it should charge fine.

Yeah, I was @ 3% and charging using the stock and it powered off my itself. but, now I'm on a higher charger so hope things get better. I'm so impatient right now. I just want to start playing with it. hehehe

Is this safe for the hardware? My moto 360 keeps floating between two percentages after about 2 hours. I plugged in the charger from my note II, and it seems to charge really quick. But is this higher amperage safe for the moto 360, since the stock is rated at a much lower amperage?

The device will draw what it needs a .5a charger will provide up to that amount of current. a 2a charger will provide up to 2a of current but a device may not pull that much. It is generally thought that for LiIon batteries that providing a low maximum current and taking longer to charge will make the batteries last longer, so if you dont mind a slow charge cycle, which for a watch that should be charged while you are sleeping it doesnt matter then you should go back to the stock adapter to maximize total life.
I went off charger at 7:30am and now at 11 I am at 65%, which is terrible, but I'll wait a week to pass judgement, but my gear live and galaxy gear 1 with tizen both had awesome battery life of 2 full days with more than moderate use.... The Galaxy Gear 1 on Android was lucky to get more than 14 hrs of use.
Thanks everyone for helping me get my Watch up and running. For anyone who is new and reading this, fully charge your watch before pairing it since it will need at least 80% battery so it can update itself. Of course, this has already been stated in the thread and thanks to those folks who stated it already and all the credit goes to them.
I'm having this issue as well. I've been trying to charge it for the past few hours and it never gets past 10%. I kept trying to reset the device and it would never work. It kept coming up in the "Just a minute" mode which seems to eat the battery.
But finally on my last reset attempt, the device rebooted immediately and came back up on the "Select language" screen. I now have the device charging and am hopeful it will work this time.
But my big question is: how do you know when it's fully charged? Without knowing what the current charge level is, I'm afraid to try the update procedure or I may get stuck in the same "Just a minute" loop again. Anyone have any ideas on how to determine the charge level prior to setting up the device?
I killed mine. I tried to pair, got stuck on the "just a minute" screen and then it died. I charged it for a couple of hours and it still would get stuck. Somehow, I got to settings (still don't know how) and did a factory reset. Then, everything seemed ok and it was charged at 100% when I paired and did the update.
However, after the update, I got into a boot loop where it would show the M logo with the marks around the dial, flash to some colored balls, then say "android wear" and then it would reboot. Tech support from Motorola couldn't help me and finally after a few hours the watch died. I put it back on the charger and it would eventually fire back up and go into the bootloop again. It did it all night last night.
Furthermore, my indicator on the charger never lit up either.
I took it back and "exchanged" it for a new one that the store said would ship this week.
As much as I was anticipating this thing showing up, I'm pretty disappointed already.
Finally got mine booted. After successfully resetting the device (back to the "select a language" screen), I had it on the charger for about an hour. Then I tried again and it went through the whole installation successfully.

I was in the same boat. The trick is to get the device reset. When I was trying to do that (via the menu that comes up when you press-and-hold the watch button), it would sit there and do nothing. Then 10 seconds later it would power down. But then as it charged, it would power back up and the "Just a minute" message would appear.
To get it to work, I turned the device off and let it charge. When it powered back on, I turned it off immediately and kept charging it. Then eventually, the charge jumped up to about 13%. I tried the device reset option again and this time it powered down immediately and booted back up with the "select a language" screen. I then turned off the display and let it charge for an hour. After that, I went through the setup and it worked.

Thanks Dan, that did the trick. I see the firmware update added quite a few watch faces but can't customize the colors on those until the Connect app is updated.

Hi all. I have an untampered (stock) with phone that was working well until this week. Nothing happened in particular that I can think of to make it stop working properly, except perhaps the battery fully drained itself.
I have charged the phone for some hours now... although I don't see the charging light, every now and again, a picture of a battery appears on the screen and displays 1%, 6%, etc.
Hitting the power button only brings up the HTC welcome splash screen, and a few seconds later, it goes blank. I can hold the power button + vol down to enter Hboot, but then when I use the power button to select either recovery or factory reset, it simply displays the same HTC welcome splash screen and then goes blank again.
Perhaps the charger is faulty? Shouldn't the phone boot with 6% battery (although I suspect it has charged up further than that, 6% is the last number I saw)?

Have you tried to reset the charging logic of the device, first you must charge your M8 for a minimum of 10 minutes using a wall charger. Now With the power off from the switch ,press and hold the volume up and down button ( both volume button ) with the power button for approximately 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, release all of the buttons. After the release the charging logic should be reset. Then charge your phone to 100% using your wall charger. If this doesn't work then its probably a failing battery or charge port.

I suspect you are right; perhaps there is something different between from the 110v in USA vs 220v in Norway, but the charge seems much slower in Norway. Perhaps the cable is faulty, or the charging block.
Try using a different wall charger.
Or perhaps a powerful charger to get it a kick start for a short time . And than the normal charger.
But before all this try to reset battery logic . That has worked

Input voltage (mains voltage to the charger) is irrelevant. The output voltage is indicated on the charger (probably 5v). If the phone took 110v or 220v it would probably blow up! The charger brick is essentially a small electrical transformer, which only outputs what the phone will take. You will see on the charger, it will take a range of input voltages (probably 110-240v).
I'm confused why you say it charges much slower in Norway? Did you charge it somewhere else previously?
If you have any reason to think the charger or cable is faulty, I would definitely try another charger and cable.
