Q? One x on T-Mobile? - HTC One X

What data speeds does the one x get on T-Mobile.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA

The only speeds you'll be able to pick up on T-Mobile with the One X will be Edge. Since the One X doesn't have T-Mobiles 3G data bands. Unless you are some on the few lucky cities that has the newly updated T-Mobile towers with the same 3G bands as AT&T.

Is there a way to check where the new updated bands are? Also is there any version of the one x at all that gets at least T-Mobile 3g?

As far as I've heard there are a few cities in California that have been upgraded there might be a thread on here about I know tmobile plans on having the upgrade completely finished by early 2013, and as for OneXs being compatible some are saying that the OneXL is compatible with T-Mobiles 700/1900 AWS band but it will take some configuring with the radio for it to work.

is this whats causing my problem?
i have the one x international version and i can't get any data..i put the t-mobile APN configuration in and no cigar..would this be whats causing the issue?

Heads up if you are currently using the HTC One X on TMO but are considering switching to Straight Talk.
I just purchased their $45 plan plus paid the $15 for the ATT Micro SIM and am not able to get connected to Straight Talk. As others have mentioned, their CS does not know what they are doing, i.e.: The CS rep told me he needed to transfer me to the correct department and I asked what department that was and his comment was "our Department that handles ATT Micro SIM issues using a Non Straight Talk phone"
So if you are considering this don't cancel your TMO account immediately...
Good luck...oh and by the way, this phone is SWEEEEEEEEET!!!

So even the global one won't get 4g or H speeds on t-mobile? isnt it different from the Att version band wise? I am thinkin about getting this or One s

Nope the global one won't get tmobile speeds cause it only have the upload band for tmobiles 4G and not the download for it to work on tmobile it has to have the 1700/2100 AWS band. And the main difference band wise on the the international version and AT&T XL is that the international lacks a LTE card.

I have the international one x and I am on T-mobile I get like 5 mb which is very good for me

He's probably roaming on AT&T's 1900mhz

San Diego must be one of the cities where T-Mobile is sharing AT&Ts band.

[Q] Can the HTC One X be used with T-Mobile?

Hi, I was just wondering if the HTC One X (Unlocked) be used with T-Mobile, because I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Hercules) and the lack of ICS is pi**ing me off, I miss my HTC Sensation in which I had ICS months ago; I don't think T-mobile is planning on releasing ICS for the SGS2 somewhere near the future.
For now I'm stuck between Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note and The HTC One X but I don't know if either of the will work on T-Mobile . Can someone please let me know. Sorry for my english.

Puerto Rico I travel a lot to the states as I work for U.S Deparment of Defense.
This is a very good question. Tmobile claims to use 1700/2100 band for 3g/4g
The specs for the ONE X are : WCDMA/HSPA 850/900/1900//2100 MHz
And GPRS/EDGE/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
From this information I am unsure whether it will be fully compatible. These numbers look more like an ATT phone than tmobile. Im assuming it will work with edge but 4g is most likely not going to happen. I ordered a one x and intend on using it with t-mobile, so it would definately be beneficial if someone was confident it would work on tmobiles network. Hopefully someone will have one and test it on tmobiles network before I get mine in the mail.

420kushking is correct regarding the spectrums.
However, there are reports that T-Mo iPhone users were able to use 3G on T-Mo network. I've also checked T-Mo spectrums, PCS 1900 mhz 3G spectrums are available on T-Mo on areas in the US. If you're planning to use T-Mo and plan to get the phone, you should probably call T-Mo to see if 1900 mhz is available in the areas you'll be going to most often and make sure that you'll be able to get 3G coverage on your phone. If you ask if the phone will work on T-Mo, the customer service will probably say something like the phone will work on T-Mo but they can't guarantee if the 3G will work on the phone. So it's better to ask of the spectrum is available instead, that might be a safer bet. Even tho the spectrum may be available, but that probably doesn't mean that the 3G will definitely work. These are just some information for you to consider.
I'm also planning to get a One X to use on T-Mo, and hopefully what they say about the 1900 mhz spectrums are true. I couldn't test the 1900 mhz spectrum on my Desire HD because of the 900/2100 bands on the phone.

Well yeah it will work but will it be able to utilize the 4g network I think is the question here. I have already pre-ordered the one X unlocked version and I do have tmobile. I will be doing extensive data speed tests when I get the One X, but I do not expect anything better than an EDGE connection on T-mobiles network.
To me this is a big deal because if the One X does not work with 4g on tmobile, It also wont work with 4g on ATT because its the Tegra 3 version, and if you have been looking at specs the tegra 3 unlocked version does NOT support LTE... If I dont get the speeds I need then it will end up on eBay.

The one x will get 4G speeds on att. "4G" as in HSPA+ not LTE. So you'll get decent speeds, just not LTE speeds. I Wouldn't bet that the one x will work on tmobiles 3G networks let alone their 4G networks. Edge seems about right.
Thanks to you all for answering my question, I was about to pre-order it on when I read that it was "Sim-free", what does that mean, does that mean it has no sim card slot. Im kinda confused here.
Never mind after a bit or reading I've learned that sim-free means it comes with ail, but it does has sim card slot.

SIM-Free means you can use whatever network uses GSM
I don't think the One X will support Tmobile AWS band. The only hope for this phone to work on Tmobile 3G/4G is if Tmobile has switched 3G/4G over to the 1900 band in your area.

Realistically? No, since it doesn't support the AWS Band (1700 AND 2100).
However, if you live in an area when TMo has deployed the 1900 band, it will work. If you live in that area, that is.
Also, "sim-free" means it comes straight from the manufacturer, without a carrier's SIM card.

Nope 1700mhz/2100mhz in here... Sad but true
I was looking for the specs at gsmarena and I found that the at&t versions supports the following bands:
2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network
HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network
LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100
I'm not too familiar with this subject but I believe that T-Mobile uses 1700/2100mhz, does this means the At&t is a true candidate for T-Mobile Compatibility?

I think the version of the phone you would be referring to is the one X att version, It has a dual core qualcomm s4 krait instead of the tegra 3 processor. There is some debate over the performance of the krait vs the tegra 3. I know from a benchmark video that the tegra 3 outperformed the transformer prime. I think the krait outperformed the tegra 3 though by a bit. I ordered the unlocked one x that has the tegra 3 so it doesnt support tmobile 4g or att 4g based off the specs. When I get it I will test on both networks. My concern is that since I ordered the tegra 3 version, it wont be supported by ATT 4g OR t-mobile 4g. We will see I guess.

Ok good to know. Does anyone have information about speed tests on their regular 4g network? Is the LTE that much faster to where it would be worth it to invest in an LTE based less storage model? I have both att and T-mobile but I think the 4g on t-mobile is faster based off my speed tests. I do NOT have an LTE device to test the differences. I am in Los Angeles/ Orange county area.
I'm considering switching to T-Mobile with an unlocked One X, and appreciate the info in this thread. One question: some are saying it will work with HSPA+ on ATT. Will the phone roam to ATT if it sees an EDGE network in range, or will I be stuck with the lower speed? Oh, and does TMob charge for data roaming to ATT HSPA+?

For those one on T-Mobile/wind Mobile/Mobilicity users...

The AT&T or Rogers LTE Version of HTC ONE X has HSPA support on AWS&2100
(looks like lots ppl may not know this)
So AT&T one x works on T-Mo 3G network (wow~) Tegra FAIL!
and one more... The AT&T LTE version is originally called One XL (but now they call it X since idk)
Moreover, AT&T version looks like 549.99USD (Rogers version is $629CAD+tax)
It still won't have the 1700 band.

This has been discussed to death. The official HTC Asia page says the AT&T phone (by name) doesn't support AWS for HSPA. The LTE radio does but it won't work for HSPA. Do you have a link to share where someone has shown a Speed Test getting HSPA/HSPA+ speeds on T-Mobile U.S. with either a Rogers or AT&T One X? Until someone posts that this isn't confirmed and based on the published specs it probably won't be.
From HTC Asia:
HSPA/WCDMA:
•ATT: 850/1900/2100 MHz
•Asia/AUS: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
•850/900/1800/1900 MHz
LTE:
•ATT: B4/B17
•Asia/AUS: 1800/2600 MHz
From the Rogers site:
GSM Bands: 850/900/1800/1900
HSPA Bands: 850/1900/2100
LTE Bands: 700/1700/2100
From the AT&T site:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE - 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G/UMTS - 850/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE - Band 4 and 17
http://www.htc.com/ca/products/htconex-rogers#tech-specs
Network
LTE CAT3 - DL 100 /UL 50
LTE: 700/AWS
WCDMA: 2100/1900/AWS/850
EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900
Clearly says AWS/2100 is on the list, also 850/1900
I'm getting it this coming weekend, so I will try
And some ppl on the XL forum says Rogers has 1700 hspa clearly written on the box,
It could be a software lockdown, Same as i717...
EDIT: Just saying on Rogers site, Nokia Lumia 7100 doesnt have 1700 listed on there either, but after unlocking, it works perfectly on Wind, so idk
HSPA might work base on spec
If you look at the Samsung Galaxy Nexus's spec, the 1700/2100 HSDPA is listed as "3G". I am using the international version with T-mobile and I am getting around 7mbps. This is definitely faster than 3G speed. Looking at the spec for one x, HSDPA 1700/2100 is listed as 3G also just like the Galaxy Nexus. Wouldn't this mean it would work with T-Mobile's so called "4G" HSPA?

If this is true, than the weak signal strength and heavier battery drain are likely to occur just like they did on the G-Note. It'll be interesting to see how (and if) the One XL performs.
AT&T vs International bands
According GSM arena the AT&T version will support 3G 1700/2100 which is what Tmobile uses for its H+ network...so if you unlock the at&t version, it should be able to run on Tmo's "4G" right out the box without any needs to flash radios or what not right?

Hello friend, I too am interested in getting the One X (international 32 Gig version preferred) but would consider AT&T's version. I was able to click around AT&T's website and I could not find where it actually stated 1700/2100 AWS however, it does say this:
"4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ (with enhanced backhaul) or LTE, where available" "4G LTE Band 4 and 17" -
And this:
"3G - UMTS850/1900/2100 MHz"

You have to be clear though. Out of the box, neither phone is going to get 3G data on an AWS carrier (T-Mobile, Wind). If you guys come up with a hack, people are going to have to root their phones and flash a new radio. A lot of people will be fine with it, some, especially novices, won't. And the hack for the G-Note gets the job done but you lose some signal and battery life in the process. Until it's running on someone's XL (and well) it's a little early to claim victory. I hope it works out for you guys.
T-Mobile AWS needs 1700 AND 2100 bands. It won't work with only one, so if you don't have both, you don't have T-Mobile 3G.
Not only that, if it comes down to simply being a radio flash you NEED S-OFF to flash a radio. An RUU won't work because there is no version of the X that supports T-Mobile frequencies.
I was today That by this summer in my area the iPhone will be able to get 3g and hopefully it's the bands we to make it work on the one x

hopefully t-mobile gets this done by july. I'll be out of Army Basic training and will have money to spend on a International HTC One X beast lol... I currently have AT&T now. I was converted to a Radioshack AT&T employee plan a few months ago which changed my data plan from 2GB to Unlimited data which was freakin amazing even tho i only used between 1.5GB - 3GB of Data. Since i quit Radioshack bcuz im about to ship to boot camp, they gotta convert it back to a consumer plan (3GB data plan :-/) Idk what to do. If i come back from boot camp and ppl report that the AWS refarming rollout is actively in progress, im ditching AT&T and coming back to T-Mobile with a Tegra 3 One X. ( 6Mbits/sec is lightning fast enough for me to support playing Call of Duty on Xbox Live anyway. Ive done it on a T-Mobile Vibrant before.

Correct. Edge aka 2g data is all you will get for now. [IF YOU ARE ABLE TO OBTAIN AN OLDER MICROSIM, IF NOT, NO DATA FOR YOU]
You see, T Mo USA uses their 1900 MHz PCS band exclusively for 2g traffic. 3g data (HSPA) and "4g" (HSPA+) is used in the 1700/2100 AWS bands.
T Mobile is reframing their 3g and HSPA+ to the 1900 MHz band and will have true 4g (4th generation) LTE on those 1700/2100 AWS frequencies (previously used for 3g).
I have the international One X on T Mobile USA and am patiently waiting for the network to modernize their infrastructure. Supposedly, between now and the end of the year.

And I believe this is the Quad-Core section, not the Dual-Core as in the AT&T One X.
I believe it will still be on edge only until T-Mobile makes the switch to 3g on the 1900 band and I think with the att one x has the same situation that you have to use the older T-Mobile micro sim to get edge to work I also came from the one s and data is not working for me.

If you get the full size mini Sim then cut it down that should work.
I've been using the One X Global on T-Mo and it hasn't bothered me one bit. You could probably save some moolah and drop down to the 250mb/month plan.

I want to trade for att version. So ur saying that if I get a normal size sim card then cut it out it will work with 4g ?

Guys, the HTC One X(L) (neighter of them) will work with T Mobile's current 3g bands (AWS 1700/2100). You will only get Edge/2g data-REGARDLESS of SIM card.
HOWEVER, T Mobile USA is currently restructuring their network to provide 3g data and 3g+ data (what they currently call "4g") to the 1900 MHz band which our One X and MANY other phones (in and out of the US) use for 3g data.
So, my friend, you WILL get 3g data at some point, however when that will be is unknown. According to press releases (available on T Mobile's website), are investing 4 billion to make this happen. Also consider that there are a few cities reporting 3g speeds on their iPhone's and so it is happening. I have spoken to T Mobile and they are telling me it is simply a matter of time.:fingers-crossed:

I was told no it will not. So, I went and got a prepaid Verizon Jetpack Hotspot because using their wifi is actually LTE...not bad with a $25 prepaid AT&T card

Tmo in the US uses 1700 MHz for its 4g data afaik which is not compatible with the Intl. One X. You will not be able to use 4g data.
Tmobile doesn't really have 4g out yet, they do promise to roll out LTE later. If you wait for winter quarter 2012, Tmobile promised that they will refarm 1900 for HSPA , therefore the international HOX will be able to run its 3g speed on Tmobile, which is 21mbps I think.
T-Mobile HAS BEGUN the process of refarming their 1900 mHz band to HSPA+. That being said, there are still many places that only get EDGE service on the One X. It will take some time to complete the refarming process.

I just switched away from T-Mobile due to their coverage map being a bit....optimistic. None of the major us carriers support 4g yet. What they call 4g is actually more like 3.9g. It is more correct to call it LTE than 4g. Having said that, the global hox supports most of the frequencies that tmobile uses, just not in the way that T-Mobile uses them. The best you can get with a global hox on T-Mobile is 2G. My suggestion is to use att or an att compatible prepay carrier. You can get their 3g network which usually has decent seed.

42Mbps Of course that's only theoretical though, but that's what they advertise their HSPA+ network as in the largest cities.

[Q] Factory Unlocked vs T-Mobile Radios

Will the factory unlocked M8 support everything radio wise that the T-Mobile M8 will? I'm currently able to get one considerably cheaper than a T-Mobile one and just wanted to be sure.
I believe the unlocked is missing the 1700 band that hspa+ runs on. If you're in a reframed 1900 band area then you're okay. Otherwise you lose hspa+

Which factory unlocked version? There’s EMEA and Asia:
2G/2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G - WCDMA:
EMEA: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps
Asia: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps
4G - LTE:

Neither of the unlocked or Dev M8s will give you HSPA on AWS, so you’d have to be in an 850 MHz area. If you got the Dev edition, you’d be limited to 21 Mbps.
For LTE, the unlocked EMEA version won’t work at all and the Asia version will only work in areas where T-Mobile is transmitting on 700 MHz. The Dev edition will at least give you 700 and 1900 MHz, but I think T-Mobile currently has most of their LTE on AWS.
I've been around for several years now, but still very much uneducated about the radios and bands supported.
I have the GSM Dev edition. By reading the info in the last few posts about what bands/etc are supported and what speeds (HSPA, AWS, 4G, LTE) does this mean the Dev version is physically incapable of getting 100% service (edge, aws,...their whole network) on T-Mobile because of a lack of an actual component inside the phone? Or is it not "supported" because the firmware ( I.e....the radio software) is not included?
I guess my next logical question would be since I'm unlocked, s-off and superCID, would it be possible to turn my phone into a virtually identical T-Mobile phone? Or is T-Mobile's version of the M8 not even going to fully work on their network... Areas that haven't been refarmed yet.

This is what my post above was addressing.
The Dev edition is physically incapable of getting 100% service in all of T-Mobile's markets due to lack of hardware, yes. Therefore, it is impossible to turn it into an identical phone from the standpoint of radio compatibility.

The Verizon version is a little different than the T-Mobile version. The Verizon M8 is a little more limited with its 3G/HSPA since it only goes up to 14.4 Mbps vs. 42 Mbps with the two unlocked versions and the T-Mobile version. It has more LTE bands than the T-Mobile version, but at least one person on the Verizon board is having problems connecting to LTE on his Verizon M8 abroad.
Just in case you were referring to the Dev edition when you said “carrier unlocked,” those are different as well. I wouldn’t recommend using anything but the Verizon M8 on Verizon’s network since only the Verizon and Sprint models have CDMA radios and Sprint’s model doesn’t have the LTE radio to use Verizon’s LTE network (or vice-versa).

Are you able to connect to all T-Mobile bands? I want to pickup a used m8 but the T-Mobile variant is $100 more expensive than all the other carrier's versions. Does anyone know if I could pickup a used AT&T/Sprint/Verizon m8 and use it on T-Mobile without sacrificing frequency bands or anything?
Hi,
I know this is a really old thread, but I recently switched over from At&t to T-Mobile and similar questions about radios etc. Doing some internet searches I found Tom's Hardware review of the HTC One M8 (sorry don't have time to find the link), but according to the review the At&t and the US GPE version are the same version. Furthermore, both phones can fully support the AWS band for T-Mobile, however, At&t elected to lock the AWS band for the HSPA+ to refrain customers from unlocking and switching.
I was getting spotty service around my house, and just installed the T-Mobile radio and ROM on to my At&t M8. I will report on the performance once I have some time with the new set up.

How is this working for you? I have a vzw m8 and I'm over on T-Mobile, now mostly everything works, except for 4glte, it will work and then cut off after a bit, or if I travel between towers I loose connection and it won't try to find another tower, band or any other... So I get most out of this, just not all. And I was wondering which radio I used... Last time I tried a T-Mobile radio, I lost all connectivity. Btw I'm soff and supCID

Haha I know the pains of using a vzw device on gsm networks I had a LG g2 Verizon wireless and ran it on t-mobile I had to sell it had to reboot the radio about twice a week as well as take out SIM card
Helpful article
I found http://www.anandtech.com/show/7893/the-htc-one-m8-review very helpful to understanding the M8 radios.
Hey my phone is doing great! I even managed to pick up some better HSPA+ around the house - although I can't confirm if it is on the AWS band.
In terms of flashing the radio on the Verizon M8, I am highly doubtful that it will produce any valuable results. The CDMA version of HTC's always differs significantly from their GSM counterparts. If you look at the supported bands for the Verizon M8, there is no support for the T-Mobile UTMS AWS band - which is probably why you are dropping signal while switching towers.
