i was suprised to see the ringtone size limitation(300kb) implemented on the newer androids. i didnt see any posts from the smarter folks on a work around or even trying to remove all together (like on froyo for example). is this only important to me? i understand how to recompress an mp3 file to achive required size or use 1 of the available market apps to accomplish the goal. i just thought it was nice to add any old song out of the library on a wim(i would change my wifes ring 2 or 3 times ina given day depending on how much she annoyed me)
guess im wondering if i bothers anyone else or if anyones working on a fix?

there are some (music) apps on the play store that can process ringtones.
I use PowerAmp (unfortunately it's a paid one) and use it to set ringtones. If you have GoSMS, that app also sets ringtones.....hopefully this one helps. If you are talking about "Assigning Tones" among contacts, it's quite challenging.
EDIT: oh...and just observed that .WAV files do good as tones...

Use Ringdroid - create your own ringtone from existing library songs, and cut them down to 30 seconds or less - if your phone rings longer, you get charged for the call

so its an carrier things not an andriod? its nice not to have to edit songs in ringdroid just add straight from your music dir. maybe if i load a rogers based rom....
Interesting that AT&T would do this but it makes good business sense.
Not many people know how to edit songs to make ring tones so rather then learn they will pay AT&T for there 2$+ ringtones.
Glad Rogers does not do that. I just find it's hard to find a good song that starts off relatively loud for a ringtone. This is why many people edit and grab the middle or the chorus of the song.

Ok, i dont know about anyone else but im getting fed up with the standard ringtones, message tones, notifications etc etc.
This can be the thread where we all contribute to getting everyone some decent sounds on there Hermes!
Feel free to add any sounds for any purpose, im sure someone will appriciate yours!
LoL.. I see you hooked up on rings..
Well.. here I will share mine.. I got a lot more but those can`t be shared since they are commercial..
But the free ones I collected are here..
There is a folder named "Made by Shamanix".. in there are rings that I`ve made out of couple of songs that I like very much ( music that I personally listen to )
They are kinda little too big ( only 2 of them ), but I am not in the mood to edit them now..
Tell me what you think

Enjoy..
Theres some good ones in there matey! The msg one is good but a bit long lol.
Started the thread well!
nice thread... err... i will find some nice ones too and post it here
Here's a little something...
...I put together a while back. It is also a bit large, but it works as a ringtone, and also as an alarm from within PhoneAlarm (where I use it to let me know when my train has arrived at my station).
It is a small clip from the Dark Side of the Moon Album by Pink Floyd ... many of you might remember the bells/clocks sequence just before the song "Time".
That album was always one of my favs, and as such, I clipped this out to use as an alarm.
Hopefully, I'm not breaking any copyright laws by posting it here. If I am, PLEASE Mods, go ahead and delete it.

I like the Nokia dead one.
But does anyone have the same concept but for a regular old school telephone ring?
Anybody back up their WM5 rings?
I'm missing some of the stock WM5 rings (like "fantasy" which I used for phone calls). Maybe someone out there backed up their WM5 files? Or can somehow upload some of the stock from their prior build?
The Windows Mobile Extras site has some free ones that are alright. I use the Halo theme from there. It's much fun.
here some i made for me and the wifey..about 30 of them. Also included 2 message tones: Homer "mail call" and star trek's "incoming transmission

Rename to .wma for the 24 CTU ringtone

When I get around to it I'll stick some up that I've found....
Such as R2D2? Robin Williams GMV holler, some of the simpsons and that sort of stuff
But I could do with some basic rings too
I've had my TP2 for about 2 months now, and I'm waking up to the same lame sound every morning on my alarm. Now I've looked around on the forum, pretty much everywhere, and can't find a thing on it. (Or there's just too much, and I skipped it?)
So here it goes:
Does anyone know how to change the alarmtone? I would've thought it'd be the same as changing your ringtone on TP2, but I guess not.
Any ideas? All the standard alarm sounds on there are so lame. It's a ***** to wake up to it every morning.
Put the tone you want directly in My Documents. Not My Documents/Ringtones. Then it will show up in the list of options. At least, it did for me on the stock T-Mobile ROM and on all of the Energy Roms.

X2-Same here...Tj
i had to change tones for alarm to WAV files to work or show up.
hey there,
i am one of those guys who frequently goes out to student parties where most people only have a laptop with some random musicplaylist. so most of the time that even runs on shuffle and those people mix oldies with techno and so on...
wouldnt it be interesting to have a windows mobile app that was able to crossfade 2 songs from the SD-card? maybe one can add some effects. maybe even a little database wich gives you the BPM. one could scratch via the touchscreen and so on. (thinking about a small version of a program like: TRAKTOR DJ STUDIO)
anyone interested in developing?
i can do the GFX work : )
just let me know whether that could work.
Actually, I got this on my mind too lol.
Try this one: http://www.makayama.com/djmixer.html - I haven't tried it.
But I might do something on my own, but I'm n00b at this.

If you get it working then good for you. I had this for my diamond 2. Bought it on the marketplace and it didnt work they said if you have long song names or a more than 200 mp3's it wont work. I put it on my kaiser with a different sd card and it crashed on that.
try this though.
http://pocketdjstudio.x10hosting.com/pocket-djstudio.com/index_en.html
its more stable (well it at least works) I've used it a few times. the difference is djmixer searches for the tracks to built a playlist. where as on djstudio you load tracks onto each deck.
for free?
i still can get over the fact that i have to give up using my 10 year old wave file for my incoming messages

This will be one of the first things for us to hack I'm afraid. OEMs can add ringtones but I don't think you can download them or otherwise add anything that didn't come with your phone... yet. I have to assume that they'll enable this in the Zune client before too long though.
Was thinking this myself. Have all my own ring tones and those specific to contacts. I'll want to be able to continue to use these

Yeah, OP, I wouldn't worry about it. Hell, I'm still using an old ass FF7 Jenova battle theme for my ring tone, lol! Lemme see if I can find the song..

You can get new ringtones, but you have to get them off the marketplace
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/start/ringtones-and-sounds.aspx
As far as I know they are just MP3s stored in a specific location, so once a file explorer or a way of accessing this on your computer is hacked, then it will be possible.
I hope someone figures this out soon. I've been using the same ringtones for 7 or 8 years. I'd even pay for them if anyone sold them in except that I know that they are so quirky (and I guess dated) no one would think of creating or selling the ones I have. I'd even buy an app that let me import them.
so wait theres no way of HTC puttin out a MP3 trimmer and using our own mp3's as ringtones? wtf

Whay
Wow...it's a ghost town here. This is big news people!
That's gonna be really really amazing.
THX!
Tried it like 2 mins after they posted it up on twitter and it worked perfect. If there's any Fringe fans out there you may like the attached ringtone. I grabbed it from a rom I downloaded a while back and converted for use on WP7.
Oh my...I still wasn't able to unlock my Omnia7 with chevron-application. Always getting the USB error.
But I'd really like to have my custom ringtones
This works for me. Just dandy!!
For those who like Indiana Jones... 2 different tunes
Basic ringtone
Here is a basic ringtone. No Fur Elise, no Lady Gaga.... Just...
bleeleeleeleep .... bleeleeleeleep .... bleeleeleeleep ....
Was it sooooo much to ask for, that the phone come stock with an absolutely boring, non-personality ringtone?
Only problem I'm having is finding a converter to make them MWV
here you go , its 100% free and worked real well.
You can use (free) Microsoft Expression Encoder.

Does the ringtone manager allow you to set your own alarm sounds / sms tones too?
No, only ringtones.
And you can only add new ringtones, not modify or delete existing.

Thx I'm gonna give it a try when I get home
Also, I think Microsoft Expression Encoder is free. You can convert.... almost anything to well... almost anything. Definitely to 48Khz WMA.
the ringtone it work.. well i added 5 personal ringtone
Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone that think otherwise...if you add 5 ringtones through the XAP and then reload an additional 5 ringtones it won't replace the ringtones, you'll get the other 5 (or more) in addition. Don't know if anyone was curious, but I was so I experimented with it.
Seeing how MS blocked/demanded they remove their other hacks, maybe someone should put a backup location for this app, just in case.

It doesn't have to be 48khz. I've loaded a few 44.1khz wmas and Chris Walsh himself acknowledged that 44.1 khz works as well in the comments.
