Looking at swtiching - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Im looking at going to a prepaid provider such as Straight talk and was wondering which att/tmobile phone was equal to the Epic 4g touch? It looks like the sgs2 and skyrocket have 1.5 processor but is slower than ours.

Get an unlocked Galaxy Nexus off Google Play for $399.

Not for nothing but if you are any type of phone person this answer is simple especially since we are not hiding any phones from you... But really if you just shot down the two other Galaxy phones and your know the Nexus has less features then honestly what answer would you be looking for...
Sorry I also assume you know bout the HTC phones about to drop and the Galaxy 3 .... Jus' Sayin'
One more thing look at Simple Mobile there 4g speeds are off the chart

You could always flash your epic 4g touch to virgin mobile or boost mobile. I am running the epic touch on virgin mobile right now and no complaints here. Best part is I only pay $25 a month for service

How are the speeds on virgin and boost?. On sprint right now i cannot even load facebook 70% of the time... Speed tests are rarely over 100k

They are the same speeds as sprint because they are both sprint subsidiaries. So if data speeds are your main concerns I would suggest staying away. I am on virgin mobile because I am not a heavy cell phone user and cost is my main concern.

Then yeah i would have to stick with att or tmobile as verizon does not cover my area. My coworker has att and gets 3-4 mb/s any time of the day every day. I havent seen over 1mb/s for a year now.

Flashed over verizon prl to see how the service is in my area. WOW i get consistently 1-2mb/s every single speed test and average of around 1-2 bars more signal everywhere...... Will probably stick with sprint for now, decisions decisions...

I've been thinking about trying straight talk. They have packages were you use sprint, VZ or AT&T towers. If I switched over I would just go buy a One X from at&t for $550. I'm on a family plan with my girlfriend and are sprint bill is $180 bucks a month! I could buy a One X for $550 and a used Iphone 4s for her for like 350.
Investment in phones : $900
$50 a month for 2 phones for 2 years : $2400
Total: $3300
Sprint bill for 2 years: $4320
What do you guys think?
I could even just flash a different networks PRL and use a lot of data and get sprint to cancel my service. Then sell our devices for around $700 for both. If I did that and they canceled my service would they cancel hers as well? I am the primary btw...

[Q] Which is better sgs2 sprint or tmobile?

Im womdering which sgs2 is better. Im looking to upgrade to a sgs2 and i have to choose the tmo or sprint one. I read about some issues on the tmo one compared to the sprint regarding the screen and ffc but the tmo has nfc so it seems more future proof. Which would u recommend?
depends on what carrier you are currently on
The T mobile version has the old crap chipset. They have to stock overclock 1.5 compared to our 1.2 just to stay in the game. So for my 2cents epic is the way Togo. Plus T mobile sucks donkey balls. Oh yeah one more thing unlimited data babby.
well im on tmobile now and i would like the dataspeeds i currently have but i heard sprints speeds are slow compared to tmo but idk if sprint is really slow in miami and is it much of a difference going from gsm to cdma?
Hardware wise sprints is superior.
CDMA has better voice coverage generally. Data speeds on T-Mobile will be superior to anything sprint offers if you are well covered.

If u have unlimited data with T-Mobile I would stay with them but if not Sprint is not bad either just cdma is older technology.
Here is a video comparing the 3 USA versions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05VI6PHrAmo
Wow from that video the only thing tmo has is data but is sprints 4g truly unlimited? And what about nfc chips? And the chipset is really that bad on The tmo version?
So other than so 3g speeds hows the sprint gs2 development going? Im so used to the regular devs in the vibrant section and tmo gs2 are any of the devs good? And screen wise and ffc wise sprints is way better correct? I ask that because i saw an article showing the difference between the sprints and tmo screens and ffc

The development here has really picked up and will only get better as CM7, Miui, etc gain official support. The phone itself has been great for me. When I had my OG Epic, I carried an extra battery and still had to consider taking a charger if I was going to be gone a full day. I don't even worry about that anymore and its fast and smooth

Sprint's data is unlimited. Keep in mind even the Sprint.com website lists 3G speeds at 300kb/s-700kb/s average with peak speeds of 2Mb/s. Everyone that is whining about their data speeds is actually experiencing what they should. The T-Mo version chipset is not bad, just isn't up to par with the Exynos processor. NFC chips are highly overrated and are simply a gimmick at the moment. Never used mine once when I had the Nexus and my other tech never uses his. It's going to be years before that technology catches on.

I'm sorry but that doesn't reflect what I (and MANY others) have been experiencing.. I max out around 20KBps and usually don't even get that. After reading other user's experiences with Sprint 3G I'm not the only one. And "whining" isn't what it's called.. we pay Sprint and expect decent service in return.

I have to agree with this. I'd be happy if I averaged what Sprint says we should be getting on 3g speeds. It's rare that I ever get 4g speeds anywhere close to TMos HSPA+ as well. Obviously it depends on where you are, but I'm only 10 miles from downtown Seattle and sometimes I'm data roaming at my house.
Oh how the IPhone has warped everyone's thinking.
YOU DON'T CHOOSE THE NETWORK BY THE PHONE!
Service, monthly cost and coverage in your area is how you decide. If you let the phone be the deciding factor you will never be happy. Every few weeks there is always a better phone. Unfortunately, unless you buy your phones without subsidy, you are stuck on a carrier for 2 years.
If you could put the same rom on all three versions, I doubt you could tell the difference in performance. I will say, I like the look of the Tmobile phone better. I wish the epic had a full covering removable back.
I came from sprint and my only complaint is data speeds, but it hasn't been terrible for me. Another issue was service in my basement, but Sprint is sending me an airave..
For me, the switch was due to money, I have 3 lines and wanted data/messaging and all that good stuff, and I get a 25% discount with sprint.
I'll deal with slightly lower data to save 50 bucks a month.
My girlfriend just picked up the T-Mobile S2. It is sharp with its metal edge and buttons. I wasn't there when she picked it up - but the guy in the store was bragging to her that the 1.5 GHz was better than my 1.2 on my Touch. Only other difference is the 1850 mAh battery compared to my 1800.
I checked it out and saw the chipsets were different and this thread confirmed what I was thinking - T-Mobile overclocked the **** out of an old chipset to hit 1.5.
The Touch crushed T-Mobile stock S2 on a Quadrant bench test, but she beat my on SQ bench test. For whatever bench tests are really worth.
Still like the metal edge and her 4G averaged 9 Mbps to my 3.5 Mbps on Sprint's 4G. She has a 5 GB monthly limit which she will never hit for $30. But T-Mobile still wants $229 for the phone and they won't upgrade her early even though the contract was renewed in Jan. I wonder how much longer they will stay in business now that the merger is dead. I don't think the AT&T cash is going to keep them afloat that long.

Do you have 4g?

Anyone leave Sprint and Galaxy SII ?

Curious if anyone that was on Sprint and had the Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch, moved to Verizon for the Nexus ?
I love my Galaxy SII, great phone and I am rooted with awesome custom ROM and ICS theme. The device is butter smooth and warp speed fast with great battery life.
But Sprint is as good as whacking off with sand paper. Sure it works but sucks. 3G service is like 1995 dial up modem. But their family plan pricing is very competitive.
I am possibly thinking moving to Verizon for the Nexus, big want some advice first please. Looking at their plans they do not have free mobile to any mobile like Sprint and ATT ? And their text messaging plan is 1,000 at the most per month ? If I go unlimited minutes plan Texts should be in that. Texting is part of the phone not data per say.
Thanks ahead time

I made the switch to Verizon. Even tho I loved my e4gt the sheer difference in 3g/4g speeds is more than worth it. I hated sprint with a passion just because of the data speeds. Of course the monthly plans are a lil more pricey but it feels good to have such a nice phone (nexus galaxy) and be able to use it like its meant to be.

I actually left sprint on launch day because of a service issue with my galaxy s. I kept having to have it replaced. When I finally got one that worked right, service was lackluster at best. Got fed up when I tried to use data on launch day because my phone had zero data connection (for hours) no matter where I was. Enter Galaxy Nexus LTE and ICS... not looking back, looking forward to the future.
Looking over the Verizon family plan, and it looks extremely more expensive than Sprint.
- No free mobile to any mobile calls ? Sprint + ATT offer that.
- No unlimited Text plan ? 1,000 for $10 for the most ?
- Data, looks like the $30 for 4gb is the smartest option ?
If I go unlimited minutes, what else does that give ? Unlimited texts too ?
I switched from AT&T to Verizon and I'm loving it. It may be a bit pricey but the 4g speeds are awesome. Speed test clocked me in at 33Mb/s and I get the Galaxy Nexus. Never had Sprint so I guess I can't give a good response here though.

No unlimited mobile-to-mobile and my free minutes after 7 PM is what's keeping me on Sprint. I spend most of my time in NYC, so the data service isn't too bad. If I go rural, there is RoamControl which allows me to roam on VZW. My wife and mother in law are in a family plan with VZW, and I was considering giving up my SERO Premium and jumping onboard for the Galaxy Nexus - but use way too many minutes and without free mobile to mobile it's a no go
I switch to verizon from sprint yesterday for the nexus. Both the eve 03 d in the epic touch sucked. I'm so glad I made the switch

Yeah the no free mobile to any mobile is a deal breaker, with both Sprint and ATT offering it, makes it hard to switch. And doesn't Verizon offer free minutes at night and weekends ?

Check your usage with Sprint. Despite using my phone for business, I make most of my calls to family and friends, most of whom are already with VZW. Free minutes with Sprint are before 7 AM and after 7 PM, with VZW: before 9 AM and after 9 PM. Edge: Sprint, but again check your usage (when you tend to make most of your calls). I use less than 3 GB data with Sprint, and hardly any of it with Sprint 4G which sucks indoors. Now that VZW offers a 4G plan and there is a hacked hotspot for GNex, it is much more tempting to switch. My individual plan + insurance is still close to $70 a month; an extra line + data + insurance on VZW = $60. Galaxy Nexus >> Epic 4G, although I wish it had a hardware KB. And... I get to write off my phone as one used for business
Leaning back to VZW and GNex now. The way I see it, the combination of pretty good hardware, great software + development, great network coverage/frequencies that actually work indoors and very good data speeds = hard to beat. Sprint is working on its LTE but it seems that it won't be implemented until the mid to late 2012 and their LTE will initially be on 1900 band, which stinks for building penetration. I saved a ton with Sprint and SERO, but it is time to move on.

i made the switch from sprint yesterday. i admit, it was a tough decision. i had unlimited mobile to any mobile, plus the promotional 300 (i think) extra minutes they were offering a few months back.
I switched from Sprint. I've been a customer for over 10 years. No problems with reception, but 3g has gotten worse and wimax is not going anywhere. Plus, I don't like sense, touchwiz, etc. Honestly, I don't see much difference between 3g speeds. But lte is way more ubiquitous. I never go over 400 minutes or 4gigs of data.

I have been a sprint customer for 10 years and left sprint for Tmobile. I absolutely love tmobile service i get data speeds around 16mbps while on sprint i was getting like .2mbps. I did get a unlocked galaxy nexus and live it. I also had the gs2 on sprint but this thing is a beast. There is really no comparison.

Anyone else care to chime in ?
I am curious to hear from people that had a version of the Galaxy SII, and how they feel about switching to the Galaxy-Nexus ? A good upgrade, or more of a side grade only ?
One thing that confuses me, I keep reading all the tech forums, and they say the Galaxy-Nexus has worse hardware than the SII ? Saying the GPU is the same from the Nexus-S, and it outdated compared to what the SII is running ? And that once the SII gets ICS, it will eb a better/faster devcie than the Galaxy-Nexus ?
Is that true ? I would think since the Galaxy-Nexus is 6 months newer than the Galaxy SII, the hardware should be better ?
Anyone else ?
I switched from Sprint and my Evo 4g.
3G data speeds were killing me on Sprint with an average of 300-400kbps down...
4G took too long to turn on and it didn't work indoors at all.
Even though Verizon is more expensive, I really do feel like I'm getting quality service. My 3G speeds are about 1mbps or more down and 4G is anywhere from 6-25mbps depending on where I'm at.
I'm glad I made the switch.

Thanks for the info, yeah my biggest beef with Sprint has been their 3G service, slow as 1990's dial up modem. And in some towns around Chicago Sprint has dead areas, like no signal. In Orland Park where both my parents and sister live Sprint just doesn't even work around their homes.
But I am very happy with my Epic 4G Touch, it is rooted with a great ROM, and ICS theme.
Not sure if it is worth leaving Sprint for the Galaxy-Nexus and move to Verizon ? Would hate to leave, and then all of a sudden Sprint gets a kick ass ICS phone, and improves their network.

Verizon, T-mobile or AT&T

Hi all, I have a 2 year contract with Sprint, but I just cant take it anymore, I am planning on cancelling my contract and sign with another company, but I am not sure which one is the best (or less bad) for me in NYC.
Can anyone recommend one with good reception and real data (not the 30kbps 3G sprint has)
Thanks.

Isn't slightly over 2mbps the max for 3G speeds? If you're getting consistently over 1, I wouldn't complain. There are plenty of people elsewhere getting a fraction of that...like 10% of that.
I'd be thrilled with consistent 1-1.5mbps 3G speeds. I'm around Chicago, so LTE is in a few places which is nice, but I'm excited about when they finally upgrade the backhaul for 3G so the speeds will be better.
As for the OP, I would also try changing modems as well, see if some of them work better. Check with other NYC people and see what they're using. Modem can have a HUGE impact on speeds.

Having tried Att and Sprint....I got pretty $hitty coverage with both and this was living in the Bay Area.
For my previouscontract, I selected ATT based on reading the online reviews about them having absolute the fastest service. What the reviews didnt mention was that I couldnt get ATT service 10% of the time which got annoying real fast.
When it works...ATT and Sprint work great....but the 10% of the time you don't get connection, you'll wish you went with Verizon. They might be a tad slower based on the bandwidth test results online...but at least the coverage is more consistent
I will try changing modems, and see if I can get a better reception, thanks.

I don't mean Sprint 3G, I mean the technology limitations themselves. Even if I hop onto Verizon's network with a 3G PRL, I don't ever remember seeing anything over 2mpbs. I have plenty of friends and co-workers who have Verizon and I've never seen anything over that on any of their phones either.
Is it more of a CDMA/GSM 3G thing? Is GSM 3G faster than what you could get on a CDMA network?

Gsm carriers use a backhauled network capable of much faster speeds ....at least on speedtests
Sprint is implementing backhaul tech over the next year or so.
On 3g (hspa+) I have seen as much as 12mbps down but average 3-5 . This is on our att phones.
Funny thing is though side by side we did some comparisons last year and web pages actually loaded slower on attempt s2 vs sprint s2 .. we never really found an explanation.

Sprint is actually getting better. With the softbank deal, Sprint controls a majority of the lte footprint. They are also getting an $8 billion cash infusion that will help them finish building out their lte footprint faster and at a higher quality. I know a few people that work for Sprint corporate. I'm near Baltimore and over the past 11 years have had Verizon, ATT, T-mo, and Sprint. Each provider had pros and cons. I eventually stuck with Sprint (6 years now). They are the most reliable and ever present. Not the fastest but the only time I've been without service is in the Shenandoah mountains south of us where there is no service coverage by anyone. Sprint has addressed every problem I've ever had as long as I was patient with the rep. Oh wait I was patient with the reps from every provider and they bent over backwards to help me. A Sprint rep have my wife an iPhone for $25 during her last upgrade. We presented then with a problem on our bill and they hooked us up with the phone and fixed the bill.
I don't think any service provider is going to be perfect in all situations. I myself would pick reliable over fastest speed.
Just my opinion but stick it out things are changing with Sprint.

Who is enjoying their T-Mobile Note 2?

I want to switch to T-Mobile from AT&T and finally ditch my iPhone 4S. I am so tempted by their unlimited data plan. How is the service in general compared to AT&T (coverage permitting of course)?
Is the new unlimited data plan really unlimited???

I love Tmo's service. I've been with them for about 3 years now & the coverage is pretty good. 4G speeds are good, a little slower than AT&T's 4G, but I've had both & the difference isn't really noticeable during every day use.
I had T-Mobile prior the iPhone 4S. Their service was excellent here. Some places EDGE, yes, but calls never dropped. I got onto AT&T and calls started dropping like crazy. During peak hours data was very slow. At first I liked being on a much larger network, but now I hate it.
I want truly unlimited data and better service. T-Mobile does have better quality service, its just not as mature as AT&T.

Believe me, I want to switch to T-Mobile so bad, but I dont want to pay an ETF with AT&T. It would be $195 if I left. Started service Oct 2011 with them.
Anyway, they drop so many calls and data sucks. Their LTE is nice but the costs are not. They also throttled speeds during calls too.
$140 for 4 lines, unlimited 4g,unlimited messaging, and 1000 minutes (never used) is a great price
love t-mobile data speeds customer service and all. I mean I live in a big city and I am inside a big city 99% of the time. I guess unless you travel a lot outside a city you'd be fine coverage wise. t-mobile data speeds is great too. I get 10mbps and up in and around metro-jax peaking at 27mbps.
last September 5 they introduced the truly unlimited nationwide 4g for $20 on value plan $5 cheaper than 5gb+hotspot. never been happier. I don't even know what wifi is anymore lol
I couldn't even hit 200gb on my laptop where I download tons of data and stream Netflix a lot so I wouldn't worry too much with 9.5TB of caps.

I think that they had/felt like putting in a number. But after all that I am sure your billing cycle would be over anyways. Between my home and T-mo interweb, I usually DL about 300GB per mo.
I truely enjoy my Note2.
Note 2 is the sickest phone ever
For once there is a phone that is everything it claims to be. Note 2 passes my expectations in entertainment, for business, and for school. I've been entertaining people by the handfuls with this thing. T-Mobile has definitely made some big changes with their phones and their customer service. Although every now and again I get into it with them, but that's everywhere. I've driven cross country a couple times with my SGS and SGS II and both times I only lost signal in the most desolate places. Speeds are very impressive. I try to compare with other people and their different carriers all the time. There are moments when I get speeds close to Verizon users, using SpeedTest. Overall I'm very impressed with T-Mobile and their fight to bring back some competition to the phone market. I have unlimited everything including data with no cap to slow down and I only pay $75/month. That's including insurance for $7.
I've had T-Mobile for 8 years and I'm happy with my service. Not to mention all of my 3 lines have unlimited everything (no caps) and its under $100

Damn thats spensive . im paying 74.00 for 1000 mins unl/txts unl/4g and 3 lines and they gave me the note 2 for 140.00 after rebate at that price.
Same here I have had T-Mobile for 11 years thats since they were VoiceStream, love the service I live in NYC great speed and coverage for 2 lines unlimited everything for $100. As a matter of fact before I purchased my Note 2 my upgrade wasn't until june 2013 they gave me an early full upgrade for being a loyal customer. They actually have a loyalty department which I thought was pretty awesome great customer service have no plans on ever leaving.

But how does T-Mobile compare to AT&T? AT&T has LTE everywhere here in Chicago. T-Mobile does have a nice AWS HSPA+ network but its not as mature as AT&T's. Speeds top out around 25mbps too.

General opinion of Note II?

Hello everyone.
I am currently with Sprint, and using HTC Evo 4G LTE phone. While phone is good, Sprint service is not. I consider myself lucky to get 150kbps down. Where I live, we have an LTE deployment, but it's speed is about 4mbps, and requires me to airplane-mode cycle to connect. So I am thinking about switching and picking up Note II.
So, anyone in a similar situation (Evo 4G LTE, tired of Sprint) who switched to T-Mobile / Note II, any feedback? How's the phone? Service? Data speed? Would you stay or go back to Sprint?

I was shocked when I ran speed tests on every carrier in my primary use case area that T-Mobile was best (faster than Verizon LTE indoors & mostly outdoors) & least expensive with most flexible options.
10-20x Sprint 3G speed @ nearly 1/3 Sprint cost : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35621485&postcount=94 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37343584&postcount=115
I'm glad I held out for the SGH-T889 & also set up Talkatone+Google Voice for my best in 2010 EVO "4G" for use over Wi-Fi but barely touch it or think about Sprint anymore..
BTW, Note2 imo is the best current handset until the Note3 or S IV & for my use case the prepaid $30/mo T-Mobile is best (test in your own use case areas with friend's T-Mobile-all carrier smartphones) & I prefer more open GSM over CDMA networks.
well its really fast and everything about it is pretty much awesome including the battery life and screen and i get 17mbps download speeds in new york :good:
Sounds great. I am currently on contract with Sprint, but trying to get out. How's development? Active? With Evo 4G LTE it seems that most ROMs are just small rehashes and not updated often.
Anything is better than the Sprint crap. I was happy with them til they started carrying the iPhones. I went from 1.3mbps, to 1, to .5, to .1, to .02, to constantly roaming on Verizon network around my home.
Location of course varies widely but I get between 3mbps to 20mbps around my home now. I have a GS3 and a Note 2 and I am happy/impress with them both.
I didn't have the Evo 4G LTE for long but man that phone has fantastic build quality.
I have a love/hate relationship with T-Mobile. On one hand, they've been pretty awesome overall (although I worry about this in the long run). On the other hand, to settle issues I've spent lots of time calling and playing CSR roulette. It took a lot of phone calls to get my Note 2's rebate honored - so please be weary of the MIRs. Make sure you dot your I's and cross your T's, and scan/make copies of everything!
Otherwise, I agree! T-Mobile is cheap and their service is usually great, if you get a good data signal. Beware: If you're in a truck stop town, you'll be lucky if you get EDGE. I've even seen GPRS on road trips not more than a year or so ago. In cities, usually it's about the same as AT&T and sprint, but consistently worse than Verizon. Then again, Verizon charges a hell of a lot more than T-Mobile....
Just do your homework when you shop for plans & phones. You can save lots of money if you pick the right plan and find it the right way.
I'm still waiting for my rebate confirmation. Just found out that they rejected my rebate for $100 for the N2! I paid full price for the phone! T-mobile used to be pretty good, now they are just ok as far as customer service is concerned. Their service is excellent in the NYC area. I've never had a call dropped and the data here are pretty fast.
Get the hell out of sprint!
Came from sprint only a few months ago. I was with them for over 10 years. Not sure why it took me so long to leave. I couldn't be happier with Tmobile and the Note II. I don't travel a whole lot a I get great coverage where I live. I'm on the $30 month, 100 mins unlimited text and data plan and it's been great. The speeds run circles around sprints data.
I guess that all comes down to where you live though.
What about when the iPhone deluge happens to T-Mobile soon?
Currently I get 10-22Mbps (avg ~15+Mbps down ~3+Mbps up) in my primary use area but still usually have access to 75/35 WiFi. Sprint was unenjoyable & expensive, T-Mobile has been great & relatively inexpensive with only limited slow-no zones in my use areas so far..:good:

Smartest move you can make, barring some unforeseen hoopla... hands down the GNII is the best phone on the planet available and TMO will be packin the best LTE punch before to long... yes other phones will be on the market soon but a majority will be barely getting to our level and those that are infact superior, wont be by much, atleast not for some time.. to think the S2 just got ICS... imagine our phone being capable of KLP and "L??" and beyond... 3 years maybe before I would get to be needing an upgrade by my math

Development is good.
I was with Sprint for 10yrs. I can't believe I stayed that long when realizing TMobiles speed compared to them. Sprint speed is garbage!

Depends on where you are. T-Mobile works well most of the time in NYC and I usually get several Mbps on HSPA.

You may have chance to taste T-Mobile LTE while I read outgoing performance is good.
Well, my Note II is on a UPS truck to be delivered today. Free with 2 year contract. Will see how it goes. Will keep both services for 3-4 days and see which one works better. I am sure T-Mobile will beat Sprint. Just today, ran a speed test, 790 ping, 117kpbs down, 109kbps up, in midtown Manhattan.

I am sure you shall be happy with T-Mobile in NYC.
I used to have Sprint (Virgin Mobile) and the EV network does not work in Downtown Brooklyn, WiMax can be spotty at times, and LTE* does not exist in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
LTE test was done at corp stores.

Sprint pretty much suck on speed when it comes to Tmobile. I was with Sprint also and on the Evo 4g and only once did I switch to Tmobile and got the Note 2 did I experience heaven. My download speed at my home in Texas is 28 mbs and and upload about 4 mbps. I never go on wifi and I use my phone more than my computer now. Also, their plan is cheaper and I got unlimited everything with no cap, can't get better than that.

I know someone in Business department of T-Mobile. He's able to arrange Note II or S3 for free if you sign up for a new 2 year plan. Has to be a new activation (new number or port-in). I am not sure if it would violate board rules, but if someone wants it, PM me for contact info.
Basically, I got my activation fee waived, free overnight shipping. GF already has it at home. Arrived few minutes ago.
Im in North Jersey and ran a speedtest to a NYC server. ran 3 tests and got an average of 22mb down and 3mb up
I think the note 2 is a nice looking, fast phone. However at the end of the day, it's still a smartphone. You'll probably use it much the same as you would any other nice enough smartphone
