i just rooted my kindle fire today. i thought i was all done and when i went to read a book, the kindle app is not recognizing any of my books that were sideloaded. the books are actually in the book folder and the doc folder. they are just not being recognized by the app. does anyone have a clue as to how i can fix this.
If you're using the Kindle app instead of the stock launcher, put them in your "kindle" folder.
Thanks for replying, but that didn't work either. I deleted the kindle app and tried downloading the app again but it still did not recognize the books.

Try a different eReader app like Aldiko.

What format are your books?
Same issue...can't load books
I'm having the same issue. I've tried to sideload and email books....no luck...I have a few books that I have previously purchased that sometimes show up in the cloud but you cannot download it and most of the time, they do not show up. I am rooted. Thanks for any help!
after putting your books in the kindle folder (also, they have to be MOBI format) restart your kindle, they should show up then.
Edit: my original instructions were if you were using the market kindle app. If you're still on stock, put the books in the Document Folder

I could see them before they were in .mobi format
Click on an app called "Kindle" and your books should be there (after signing in with your Amazon account.
Additionally, if you sign into Amazon.com after you've done the above, you should see that you have now registered an android device for reading, which is also your kindle.
If you delete the app from your kindle your books should return to their "normal" place on your bookshelf.
I also deleted my android device from my kindle account.
Just curious if anyone knows if this is because I have rooted my kindle?

I get that. This happened to me yesterday. I turned on my Kindle and had a message that there was something called Kindle that had been installed. I thought it was another update, but when I went to device, the update was still 6.3.1, which I had already because I had to rerun KFU to root. My personal documents that I had put on the Kindle, a book I purchased from Amazon AND the items included with the Kindle (dictionary) were no longer on my shelf.
They were in my Kindle though, but I didn't know how to get them back on my shelf. I then noticed a new app called "Kindle" which I clicked to open and discovered it was similar to the app you download to read kindle books on your computer. After entering my email address and password for Amazon, the app opened and all of my books were listed there. When I went to Amazon.com, afterward, I noticed there was a new device registered to me called Kindle Android. Now I have two devices registered to me on Amazon. The Kindle Fire and the Kindle Android. I am assuming because I had rooted my device, the Kindle was being recognized somehow by Amazon to be an Android device.
I deregistered my Android Device (NOT the Kindle Fire.) and went back to the Fire and deleted the new Kindle app. After a message telling me I could delete the app and go back to the old way of reading on my Kindle, I said uninstall app and now my books are back on my shelf in their original place, although my reading percentage on them has been set back to 0%.
I am guessing that somehow Amazon has figured out a way to 'know' that I have rooted my device.
I am sorry if this is not the answer to your question. If it doesn't help you, perhaps you can give a few more details of your situation so that someone more knowledgeable can assist you.
Do you have the Google Play Store installed? If so make sure you didn't install the kindle app from there.
If you did, you can remove it by going to My Apps in the play store selecting the Kindle app and choosing to uninstall updates.
The books you have downloaded should be under /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.kindle/files. Stock devices may use a different folder but it should still be com.amazon.whatever.
There will be two different file extensions for each filename, .mbp & .prc. I'm not sure what the .mbp is, but its not important. What is important are the .prc files. They will be named something like "B003XDUCIG_EBOK.prc"
Take all of the files and place them in a new folder, then one at a time place them in your "kindle" (Kindle app) or "Books" (stock reader) folder. Open the reader to see which books show up and go back and rename them accordingly.
If you leave your books in the com.amazon.kindle folder, they will be deleted every time you switch accounts or uninstall the Kindle app.
Yay, Amazon!
you guys are awesome it was the kindle thing through go play thank you my wife also thanks you guys.
All of my books (.mobi files) are all gone from the kindle fire bookshelf. I opened up the folder "books" in the root of the sdcard and all of my books are still there but they dont show up on the kindle fire bookshelf anymore.
It used to work when I was on 6.1 & 6.2 but as soon as I went to 6.3.1 (root), I can't find my books in the bookshelf anymore.
How do I make them show up again?
Put them in your "kindle" folder.
thank you that worked. I can now read my books as usual.
Is there any reason that my book covers are missing? They used to show up before on the "books" folder but they don't show on the "kindle" folder

There should have also been some files in the folder your books were in with the extension .mbp. Try moving those over to the kindle file as well. Your covers should be there.
the .mbp files were already moved to the "kindle" file, but no covers show up.

android mobi files are gone
My .mobi files periodically vanish even though they are in the kindle folder of my phone. Regardless of what I do, they just go away after unplugging my phone from my computer. I've tried making the files read only, unplugged with the eject, as if that ever makes a bit of difference, and still lose all the work I've done organizing and bookmarking. It feels like a waste of time and makes no sense at all. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
It's a Google problem. They have been pushing updates that break it.
Uncheck auto update in the play store
Then go to app management and uninstall updates.
Now reboot. If that fails the original apk is in the SD card.

I am using the kindle app from the store without any problems. Could you elaborate upon what you are experiencing? I sign in to my kindle account and have access to all my titles. I do have to download again when changing ROMs, but they are all there.

Ok, the way the book is setup is different. I liked it better with the stock. But Mainly I used to use a program called Calibre that would convert epub, pdf, and any other text file into .mobi, and then it would make it appear in the Kindle Library. Is there any way I can do this with the app.
Also(and totally off topic) all the ICS ROMS I've flashed won't let me connect via USB. I can always use TWRP, but it would be nicer if I could just connect. It takes a lot longer when using a wifi file explorer. I've enabled Android Debugging.

You can copy your .mobi files from your computer to your KF's /sdcard/kindle folder. They will appear in the Kindle app.
As for your USB mount problem, I answered something similar for another user. Maybe this post will help you...

You can also use the send to kindle program to send them to your Kindle app over wifi. That is what I did to get my pdfs and such.

I was reading a book using the kindle app, one I put on my device my self, and then I swithched to google chrome, and after browsing for a few minutes I went back to my book to discover nothing was showing up in my kindle app, so I restarted my kindle and the problem was the same. I used a file browser to determine everything on my kindle folder on my sdcard got deleted and I am incredibly confused as to how.
Edit: I had around 700 ebooks

Sorry, that I don't have an anwers, but how did you get a SD card in it?
I recently bought a second hand Kiindle Fire (I think this may have been a mistake).
I can't log into my Amazon account, and for some reason my laptop won't acknowledge the device.
Is there anyway to get books and apps onto the Kindle without either of those? I've tried downloading books from my gmail account, but they don't appear to be anywhere.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Get a USB Cable, get the sdk, start adb, then adb push the files from your computer to your kindle. they must be epub. then adb push nook apk and es file explorer apk.use the file explorer, search for the books that you pushed. copy them to /sdcard/Nook/My Documents. start up the nook app and sign in then read the books! you can also buy nook books using the store.
Thanks.
But my laptop doesn't recognise me Kindle Fire, so I believe your suggestion won't work. I've tried various different USB cables but it just won't connect (although the Kindle itself says it's connected to a low charging device, which is strange).
Any other ways? That don't need the use of a USB cable or an Amazon account?
That`s strictly driver related if your on stock.
You can download books off epubbud. Com, and download ex file explorer and nook apk from the silk browser. Then do what I said.

I appreciate your help, I really do. But I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this sort of thing.
Would you mind going through it step-by-step? Layman's terms if you will.
Thank you so very much.
Okay. Here it goes. First, enable unknown sources, from the settings, device. In the browser, go to this site. Download the attachment from your kindle, and install it from the drop down menu (notifications). download books from epub bud and import them into aldiko ( normally in the downloads folder. or download the nook app attached. make a barnes and nobles account, and log in. buy books from the store.
hope you aren't confused.
I just get "cannot open file" come up on the Kindle. Hmm.
Never mind. I can download books, stick them on a USB drive and take them to my Brother's house (for some reason the Kindle works on his laptop).
Thanks for the help though. Genuinely. Good egg. :good:
When posting, please don't forget to mention it device's status..whether rooted or not, tuning custom rom or not, which rom etc..
If still not running any custom rom, First root ur device, and put a custom rom..there is no meaning having a second hand device and still running a stock ROM..u can not simply regret of buying a second hand amazon kindle fire if u are on a custom rom..if u are worried about amazon prime membership, u can have it for free forever..email me if u want the trick...
