mytouch 4g bluetooth swivel cradel

I have been searching for a deal on this dock and found one through Ebay. This is a bulk item. They told me that it is the same dock without the Tmobile packaging. They are selling them for $39.99 shipped. I bought two. Thought I would share it with you. I have no affiliation with them. Ebay item #180622400868

Its the oem dock, but for cheaper.. So no, it uses the usb plug... If you buy it, just becarfull when docking ur phone because you might damage ur phones..

I read that it is hard to put the phone in the cradle but it gets easier with use. I would not try to force it.

Well since you bought two, you will see why it is hard to get in.. The dock isnt a bad design, it holds the phone good, its just they could have done without the usb plug where it is...

I have not received mine yet. I am going to make one of them work in my car. I like the idea of sliding it into a cradel instead of having to hook power and the 3.5mm audio out to my car. Seems like the best option currently. Not sure what the three contacts on the side do. Do they would do audio and power?

Na the 3 prong on the side is just for power but it does relieve a lot of wear and tear on your usb slot. I saw the modded one of the original tmobile one and it looks pretty good.

yea i had that idea to, the bad side is that it is only audio/media streaming through the Bluetooth... which means you cant answer calls through the Bluetooth you would still have to pick it up...

Looking very nice! I assume you've put the 'base' with the bluetooth part somewhere else in the car to allow you to connect to the car audio?

thanks, its still a work in progress because it is a nexus one car mount that i used with the mt4g desk dock, I dunno if i wanna mold the two pieces together to make it one?! and I am gonna cut it well just the sides... I don't have the Bluetooth connected since its not finished yet...

I've never used a dock that was SO FREAKING HARD to get the phone in. I've gotten used to it, but it's virtually impossible to put the phone in without the power button getting pressed and bringing up the power options menu. It's kind of annoying. It's also kind of a pain to get out of the dock. Since you can't grab the sides you sort of have to squeeze the top edge of the phone to pull it out. Sometimes I'm afraid I'm going to damage the screen. I think the dock played a part in breaking my power button, even though I know it's an issue with these phones in general. It's just a really poorly designed dock. I don't know what they were thinking. Nevertheless, I have two of them and mounted one in the car to charge, use Navigation, and bluetooth audio. Wish there were some more choices though...

Correct. It is a real POS, and I don't recommend that anyone use it. I jacked up my first phone pretty badly, using this dock. It killed my power button after a month of docking, and the added pressure to the seams caused dust particles to pour into the top left-hand corner of the LCD layer.
Absolutely miserable piece of hardware. Shame on T-Mo for the design. What's the point of creating a phone with docking pins, and never using them? It's the whole reason I kept this phone over the Nexus S. I still can't believe no solutions have come along.

The lady the store literally told me they were pointless.

On the T-Mo forums some have purchased this before it was withdrawn from the market and apparently it had quality control problems, some didn't work, some worked perfectly and some worked only after disassembly and re-soldering.
Too bad, it's the perfect dock with a perfect price. Who knows if it'll ever be available again.... <sigh>
I wish I'd bought one, soldering a wire that came off in shipping wouldn't be a problem but I didn't and now they're gone. Oh, well......

Samsung Fascinate to Galaxy Nexus Dock mod

Here's a mod I did because I was fed up with the GN not having a proper desk dock. This uses a stock Fascinate dock but has the location of the plug modified in order to fit the GN. It took a bit of cutting and fitting but the process is pretty straight forward. This also sets dock mode which means you get landscape lockscreen without any fiddling (finally!), and youtube will always stay in landscape (YES!!!).

Read the instructions for more info. To answer your questions 1) no it does not use the pogo pins, it just uses the micro USB and 2) Dock mode allows for landscape lockscreen if the phone is in that orientation. You can turn the phone and it'll go into portrait just fine.

In the link it says you couldnt get the usb line working but it seems like in the pic (in your post) that you were able to get it working, so what was the problem?

The USB charging works fine, but the GN (like some other Samsung phones) has the ability to use the USB data pins for audio line out. This should be triggered by being in dock mode, then you activate it in the dock settings. Unfortunately I can't seem to activate it. I'm suspecting its a software issue, but I'll have to test more resistors (gonna try 1K and 619K) across the ID pin in order to make sure of that.

Oh good, I was looking for a USB charging with a dock like this and now I may consider getting it and making the mod since it worked out so well.

modded my captivate dock tonight... didnt cut off a chunk of the front face like that one though... turned out pretty nice, removed the LED at the bottom because that always annoyed me on my night stand.
i was hoping to modify it so that it would fit with my case, no such luck.... fits fine with my extended battery though.
not sure if i'll want to take my case off every night so I might just sell this if someone wants it.

The reason I cut that chunk off was to fit the micro USB plug a little farther forward so that I could use it with a case. when I was test fitting I found that without a case the plug would fit fine behind the plastic, which makes sense since the plastic I cut was just slightly thinker than the TPU of my case.

i was thinking about doing that, cutting it cleanly and then gluing the piece back on to kind of cover it up, but i dont have any cutting discs for my dremel (couldnt even find my damn dremel)
i actually made the hole for the plug relocation with a soldering iron.
I also looked at your pics, but did NOT read, so of course I tried prying the whole face up and marred it a bit before pulling the back panel and using the screws.

My captivate was pretty much the same size as my GN, thicknes wise, how much modification did u do? can i fit it in the cappy dock withot significant effort? I am not very good at cutting & filing and soldering lol...
And does your audio out thru usb work?

Lol I did some good damage to my dock as well doing the same thing you did, hence me writing it up so people can avoid my stupidity .
When I did the cuts I just used some wire cutters instead of a dremel. It would have taken longer to set up the dremel than it took to snip a couple times and cut that piece off.

every single samsung SGS generation dock is pretty much constructed the same way. They also use pretty much the same internals. Maybe SGS2 docks are different, but I haven't torn one apart to find out (anyone know where I can get an SGS2 dock for cheap?). The exceptions to this are the "multimedia" docks which have HDMI built in. Those simply roll in a MHL adapter, or take micro HDMI from the phone (like in the case of the Droid Charge).

Oh I bought mine already in was hoping for audio out... Too bad I suppose. If anyone figure out anyway to get it working post lol

audio out does not work, you don't need to solder, you basicallly take it apart, then cut a hole where the USB jack should go above the captivate location, move the plug and glue it in.
all of the galaxy S docks are the same functionally, just slightly different shapes where the phone sits because the captivate and fascinate are shaped differently... vibrant should be pretty similar to fascinate.
lol, epic 4g is thicker, and the charge port is in the center like ours... might be the best to experiment with. (i used the captivate dock because I already had one)

can i just take the plastic case from the dock and swap in a mhl adapter so it will be a dock that i can plug into my tv or will i not have room

There's plenty of room, but you'll have to resolder some stuff as you'll need to right angle micro USB plug that comes with the dock. The standard straight plug from the MHL adapter USB plug will not fit correctly.

can sum1 with an epic 4g pls confirm that it fits with the nexus? bcz it seems that thickness wise, and usb port location wise, it should fit.

I cant atest to how long they'll last, hopefully a while, time will tell, but overall im happy with it, as it gives the tab a few more extra ports and storage options, something all android tablets should have to begin with as far as im concerned,

The adapter disconnects if you fiddle with it, to much
Theres a side button to switch between usb and card mode, which can be tricky bugger, trying not to accidently disconect the thing
Usb doesnt work with my portable harddrive, i think its to do with the power draw, im assuming this can be fixed with a software update on the samsung side of things, as the tf200 was able to, and perhaps samsung or a dev can do the the same in future, if their so inlined, otherwise, youll probably gonna need external power for harddrives, usb sticks work fine, at least the two different makes that ive tried, freecom and bytestor.
My ethernet to usb adapter doesnt work either, whereas it did on my prime, pretty sure thats a software fix too, whether that happens, is anyones guess

As someone who has bought it, i can totally agree with some the negative reviews, on the thing being flimsy, its what i was trying to describe on my above post with "fiddly".
My take on it, if you want a multiport this will do for the price, budget adapter if you will, you just have to be delicate. If you strapped for cash go for it, if you want an adapter that will last the long run, find another, likely more cash
There was one review on there that said that his didnt work at all, which initially i thought the same with mine, until i realised i hadent pushed the adapter all the way in, you gotta put a deceptive amount of pressure, for it to go all the way in,. Just a heads up to those who end up buying and face a similar situation.

It bugs me that all these adapters seem to come in two flavors: one solid piece so you have 2" of a plastic tab sticking out when its plunged in or if its connected to an adapter the cord coming out from it is straight out the back. Why doesn't someone come with a simple low profile connector with the cord routed on the side (no sticking out the back) minimal profile when plunged into the tablet and a short cord going into a slim USB or HDMI or Card reader? Would work perfect while the tablet is in a case and not pose a possible breakage risk like the all-in-one types do.

Well for now we have to settle for the cheap stuff, or pay allot of money for OEM stuff which there is not much avaiable cause its so new to the market. But my Note arrived today and I'm so happy with it.

As you say, the only way i can see myself buying a premium accessory is, if its a prime like keyboard

That would be my ultimate accessory, and id be willing to pay a "fair" price for it, but if one should come out that meets a certain criteria (usb, hdmi, keyboard) and cheap, id go for it, if user reviews are positive

It'a little bulky but I can connect 3 USB flash drives(Fat32) at the same time and 1 memory card.
The memory card reader can't support 2 different memory cards at the same time but that's not a big thing.
I have working at the same time with no additional power supply a 128GB Lexar memory card, 64GB compact flash drive,
32Gb Microsdhc on a compact usb adapter or a USB transmitter for my Logitec wireless Gamepad.
On the Amazon reviews there is a post about working external hard drives(FAT32) with an additional power supply.

It'a little bulky but I can connect 3 USB flash drives(Fat32) at the same time and 1 memory card.
The memory card reader can't support 2 different memory cards at the same time but that's not a big thing.
I have working at the same time with no additional power supply a 128GB Lexar memory card, 64GB compact flash drive,
32Gb Microsdhc on a compact usb adapter and a USB transmitter for my Logitec wireless Gamepad.
On the Amazon reviews there is a post about working external hard drives(FAT32) with an additional power supply.

Port connector good so far, treating it with care, been using it for a week. I don't move around with the connection kit dangling from the tablet,
that may reduce the life of the connector.

Hub usb + charger is useful?
Hi, I will receive my G.Note10.1 tomorow and I'm looking for an usb adapter that would be able to charge the device as well, because I plan to use it long hours at my university and I love to use pendrives.
I've found this one, and as I can't post links yet, here is the name for those curious:

Sata header on 16GB model for internal HDD [nVidia Shield Android TV]

So, barring software compatibility, it seems possible to put an internal laptop HDD into the shield non pro-model.
The biggest issue is that the shield pro has a ribbon cable and mounting point soldered onto the secondary board that the regular 16gb model does not.

if you're trying to effectively solder to sata point on the board, better break out the fume hood. i fancy myself pretty handy with a soldering iron - i've pulled off a few JTAG and RGH installations in 360's, but that's not something i think i could do.

And from ebay an FFC to female sata header, although all I'm seeing now are male and I'm not sure how much clearance I've got inside since I didn't open mine yet.
Other than that, since it looks like there are no pitfalls to be encountered in proprietary pinout or extra circuitry, I'll toss my hat in and give it a try and post the results
Since the pro 500's pic is small there, can anyone tell which orientation pin 1 is, or maybe a larger picture of the adapter.

I can't seem to find a close up photo of the adapter anywhere at all.
Since I bought the 16GB, and I don't know anyone else with a 500, it'd be great if someone could share a nice high res photo of the adapter cable.
I can put the ffc connector on there, and assume that the orientation is correct since I'm sourcing the same type of ffc connector with the claw to the back, but since I'm not keen on burning out a hdd by doing a reverse sata hookup and sending power into the data port, I'd rather not move forward without a picture.
I suppose I can probe out the pins once I have an ffc cable in there.... ugh.

From Android M every external HD or external sd card can expand your real internal storage. And it work very very well. We also have usb 3 so it can be also better.
I already tested this functionality on the Nexus Player and i assure you that will solve all your problems also with a bad read / write external storage.
For the moment i use the app foldermount that can save all my apps and games on an external sd card.

I have no doubt Google has the storage situation addressed in M, but who knows if M will ever make it to the shield outside of a custom rom. I like the way the device works now, that's the only reason I'm investing time into it, when I ignored all the other devices.
So far, this device alone is reducing my electric bill by replacing a noisy full desktop that I was using to run XBMC, I found the Pi to be too underpowered for my needs.
Shame that each new android revision is snubbed by most manufacturers in order to sell new hardware, but that's the lifecycle of electronics.

I'm hoping NVIDIA continues their method from the past as they're currently about to release an update to lollipop for the shield portable which was released on July 31rd, 2013 and shipped with Android Jellybean 4.2.1. If they continue this trend for the shield android tv, I expect we'll see android M on it

Considering how good nvidia has been about bringing updates so far and the fact that they keep their systems almost fully stock, I have faith we'll have M before the end of the year (within a month or two of M being released)

Something I'm curious about here. Can someone on the 16GB model boot my twrp build and see if /sys/devices/platform/tegra-sata.0 exists? I expect it will be and that means that this mod is possible. Though, it would be somewhat of a hack to chainload the boot to a sata hdd.
I've been doing some research on the opposite. On the pro model, the emmc is actually there, but is flat zeros (like binary diffing a dd of it and a dd of the same size from /dev/zero returns no differences). So it appears to me that the bootloaders (like pre fastboot bootloader) are looking at the internal media specific to the model. Like I said above, it should be possible to chainload back and forth. But for me, I'll likely just format and mount the unused emmc for extra storage (and likely faster r/w). Also, standard disclaimer that I haven't tried this yet, so don't blame me if you try something and it perma-bricks your device.

Damn, the entire cable is matte black, I was hoping I could figure out the orientation of the pins. I suppose I can guess based on that if the pins are straight through, but it looks like there's 22 total pins in a sata connection and 20 in the FFC connector.
Any chance you can give me a really close zoom of the conductive end of the FFC cable that plugs into the board so I can see if they skip pins or combine pins to isolate the signal?
Status update: I'm still waiting for the SATA board from china/ebay to assemble this, in theory I can just use a soldered off header from a junk board like ps3, or something to do this, but I wanted a clean solution with as few parts/wires as possible so it fits neatly inside.
More than likely by the time I assemble something, Ebayers will probably be posting a "replacement" cable for it.
I did already get the FFC connector installed, that was a piece of cake. I'll take pictures of it as soon as my wife stops watching Mad Men on netflix.
My hopes for this are just more addressable internal storage, not necessarily being able to boot off the hard drive.

let me know, with a closer look at the board, i think i could handle that soldering job

I might be super lazy but is this cheaper and easier than just buying the pro model? What benefit does this have over going pro?

You can add in an ssd potentially that's bigger than 16gb and therefor better performance. It would also cost less if you were me and have a 120gb ssd laying around.

Has anyone addressed the issues with getting the hard drive partitions to be recognized by any software/OS and cloning the drive? This would seem to me to be the first step required before figuring out solder points, etc.

Seeing as I and the OP have the non pro, would be harder for us. That being said, I don't want it to replace the 16gb is possible, so even if it's not bootable no biggy as long as it sees it and I can put files an there.

So i got an Nexus 5X 16Gb, and like you know It's totally un efficient. I see that a russian Guy has changed his memory chip of an Nexus 5.
My idea is to Add an SD slot (but how and where) or change the eMMC chip.
Any idea for it ?

I'm confused with 2 ideas :
-Add an SDCard slot (can be cool)
-Extend memory to 64 or 128gb (my advice SDCard still better)
On the iFixit Teardown guide, it says it's a Toshiba THGBMFG7C2LBAIL (16gb variant) chip.
And in the Toshiba catalog, like u can see downside, all chips seems to be the same type (P-WFBGA153).
The problem is the size of the chip. Upgrade can be easily done to 32GB (N5X Variant), or to 64 and 128 gb, up to 0,4mm difference.

Replacing the emmc chip is doable (but you still need to deal with software side, repartitioning and making sure not to take factory updates that might overwrite your changes), but making it possible to use an SD reader is IMO not practical in this form factor which is why I suggested a small card reader.
If you were thinking to replace the EMMC chip with a reader, they are not interchangeable technology. You are going to need to find some other place to attach the reader. Even if you do that, the reader won't function any different than an external reader. You'd need to change the bootloader to boot off of it and probably various Android features wouldn't work
Unless you want to drill into the bezel, probably cracking it in the process, the only place it could possibly fit is if you got rid of the SIM card slot. Then look for some spare USB leads on the motherboard or attach to USB C port.
The amount of effort you are going to put into this, might as well just buy a phone with more memory, but if you find it fun, go for it.

The combo SD Reader + new memory chip could be good , but according to hardware limitations, i prefer replace my memory chip by a new one.
I'll try to dismount my 5X and see if the 0,4mm are so problematic that i expected.
For the software part, i'll do more researches about it, but the guide for the Nexus5 seems to be good.

So you should figure out what the memory controller used on this device is. Sometimes it is possible to reconfigure it to use sd. If so, you can probably figure out which BGA pad location on motherboard correspond to the ones you need and try and rig something to a micro-sd holder (or even to the micro-sd card directly.
Personally I would only try this stuff on a broken phone as the chance for error is high.

Never heard about BGA method. After checked some YT vids, a hot air pistol seems to be good, right?
I don't have lot material ( i'm 16, basic soldering iron and some other stuff, replaced LCD, Jack connector etc. without problems, modded 7yo laptop etc. ) so any every idea is welcome

If you had access to Infrared BGA rework station that would be better, but you can do it with hot air gun, but you need one with tight control of temperature.
The solder on the BGA pads will "flow"/melt at a specific temperature range. If you go much beyond that temperature, you can damage the chip or surrounding components. Below that temperature, nothing will happen.
Most people will use temperature probes to monitor the reflow process.
Just search for xbox reflow and I'm sure you will get lots of instruction.
The proper equipment is quite pricey, but you can get by with more basic equipment for some of the steps.
You will need hot air or IR to reflow the solder between the BGA component and the pads on the board. That can't be done with solder iron as the pads are underneath the chip.

I wish you luck on the micro soldering , its not as easy as you might think

Soldering a BGA component with iron is IMO impossible, but reflow isn't that bad if you have the equipment and/or experience. The component gets "sucked" into place once the proper temperature for reflow is reached.
The solder is naturally adverse to the PCB material and will attract to the metal pads on the board and BGA component. Just add generous flux and everything will "flow" into place. Can skip a a couple of steps if you can get pre-balled emmc component.
I wouldn't do this as my first project but it is doable. Best to practice on broken xbox's first.

I know I use to work at the former Cincinnati microwave, so i have done plenty of quad flat packs, the hot air machine, microscopes; and with the correct equipment it is easy as gravy, also the lithography has got ungodly tiny since the 90s as well. I had plenty of times where i heated up a double sided board and one of the common things to do was to gently tap near the chip to see if it was loose, and it would just move, well all the components on the underside fell off LOL
That's why i am saying good luck with a soldering iron you are in for a challenge if not impossible

I don't have experience with them. I think with the less expensive models the soldering irons either have trouble maintaining temperature when you have large areas to desolder or the hot air cannot provide enough heat to account for the board acting has a heat sink.

In the US folks don't like to pay for full rework stations so they will usually try something like Aoyue 968.
It is also important to know whether you are using lead-free or lead solder. The US (and I think all of EU) banned lead solder so most of the time we are working with lead-free solder. Lead solder melts/flows starting at 183C, maybe up to 215C. lead-free solder will need to get up to 240C maybe up to 250C.
However you have an entire board acting as heat sink, so it is difficult to just heat one spot to the proper temperature. The way people make it easier is to pre-heat the entire board to something like 200C then use the hot air gun to heat the BGA area another 40-50C to get it to reflow.
I've seen people try pre-heating their boards using a griddle used for cooking and a temperature probe, but that is too ghetto for me.
I think with a small board like on nexus 5x (vs larger board on xbox) you can get away with just using hot air on the small area as the board is not sucking away as much of the heat but if you can pre-heat that would be best because it'll be easier and less chance of damaging components on the sides of the memory chip.
I really suggest you practice on a trash motherboard your BGA reflow skills prior to working on your phone though. Alternatively get someone who has done this stuff before to help you out.
