Because our ICS roms are all AT&T based, we don't have that functionality yet, as AT&T charges extra for that services.
Once we get T-Mobile official leak, rom, or source, it'll get fixed.

Kendr1ck is right, AaronPauley is mistaken. Download the free app that Kendr1ck linked to. If it doesn't work initially, hit menu> settings> change device profile and switch it from Auto to Galaxy Nexus (GSM). This worked for me without a hitch.
Edit: I should edify; technically AaronPauley is right. The built in hotspot is disabled due to the reasons he specified. There are just workarounds that make it possible via third party apps

Cm7 question

Ok I'm running the 1217 cm7 and I like it quite a bit(devs rock). Not many problems except wifi tethering doesn't work and I'm pretty much blocked from 3rd party tethering apps on the market. What options do I have? Can I get the sprint hotspot back on and reapply the hack?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Sprint Hotspot doesn't work with CM7, needs TouchWiz components to work (shame since it was the most stable wireless tethering app I had ever used :/) Wireless Tether for Rooted Devices works well, the apk is listed on here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list.
Also the latest Nightlies have added native tethering, just doesn't work with wimax (Wireless tether above does). Hope this reply isn't redundant

This is a proven to work on the epic in infrastructure mode thethering app that I run on every rom... after you lauch the app but before you start tether you will need to change to settings... 1. Change to epic 4g... 2. Change to softap... (only need to do this once as the settings will stick) http://db.tt/Q6n9nOge

Carriers like Sprint not removing portable wifi hotspots but deactivating it. How?

On my Sprint Galaxy Nexus when I first got it the stock wifi tethering setting worked on my stock ICS. Later on I found that it just doesn't work anymore. It will activate and appear to be working and let my laptop connect but the 3G will go away like they have some kind of built in checker.
I did some research and found out that they might have a checking system set up. Well I found out you can still use apps like Foxfi which is great but I was just wondering if there was a stock work around.
They even blocked Foxfi from the market place but you can go to there main site and download it from there.
I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and what kind of solutions do they use.
Right now I am using Foxfi which works perfect but I read that you can use a widget like switch pro and create a toggle to switch the portable wifi hot spot without it going through the check.
I do not want to use USB only prefer hot spot.
So please let me know all of your guys types of solutions.

Well obviously the wifi tether built in is something your supposed to pay for. For stock no, there are no mods.

I thought it was just weird because it worked at first but now it doesn't the stock version. Maybe because my phone was just still getting set up. Foxfi works for me great because I like to have hot spot but I hear PDA Net still works as well for USB Tethering.

Does your Sprint tether work or do you have to use FoxFi?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
Just root it and tether it up
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
It probably worked because they hadn't yet blocked it for you. Then you tried to use it and they did block it.

Have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658288
I unlocked the bootloader, booted to TWRP Recovery without flashing it and flashed the tether zip. Keeps your phone stock and unlocks the built in tether. You don't even have to root.
What program do you use to unlock the boot loader or flash the roms?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
How in the world did you boot into TWRP without flashing it? That might not be rooted but seems like you have to flash a rom.

Do what everyone else does....
Root it (you really need to to install any decent app).
Install wireless tether from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Always install the newest one posted (yes it's beta, but it's rock solid stable).
Which program do you use to flash things? Qdl tool or is that old school? I know there is a power house program for the Nexus but I forgot what it is its on my home computer am I out of town.
So you are saying you have to at least flash the recovery but not the from so its still a little more than FoxFi.
What's a quick step by step process because its been a while since I have flashed things. I use to flash my dell streak all the time until I got my Nexus which I love.
Why did you decide to flash? Is not FoxFi good enough and simple enough?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
What other programs do you really need to install besides the tethering app?

You just have to be rooted and then install wireless tether.
It will prompt you to allow super user access on first start, allow it and tick the "always allow this action" box.
It's bomb proof....been using it for years on numerous different phones....and numerous different carriers (sprint included).
clockworkmod tether is another no root required tether app.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus via XDA Premium
I use Chrome browser on my laptop, and change the user agent to the same as the phone (there's a Chrome app). No problems tethering...
Is that USB or Hot Spot?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
Looks like FoxFi is still the easiest solution.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
You can root your phone and then install wifi tether. Thus is what I did...

Wifi tethering not working for me on stock or cm10

Ok I am on the new unlimited data plan that just came out. I was rooted on the stock rom.
T mob pushed me a text last night saying wireless tether has been blocked for me. I was using the wifi tether app from the play store and it seems I cant use it. I also tried foxfi and its not doing anything.
So I flashed cm10 thinking I could get around it and I saw I couldnt tether still with it?
Edit using uvlh2 radio
Was still using stock kernal
Any ideas guys?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Which radio/baseband are you running? If you've updated to the newest leaks, ie. LI2 or LI3...somehow wifi tethering isn't working. But i've gone back to LH2 and everythings good.

I had the WiFi Tether App v3.1 beta working on H2 on ICS. It will not work on any JB with the same radio.
On frosty's JB ROM, hotspot in settings wanted to start up, but it immediately tried to get me to upgrade to tethering plan - and then would close when I wouldn't.
It only FC'd on Xquizi JB, and the beta will not work there either. The beta had worked on the ICS ROM's I had tried - including Xquizi's. Did not use it enough to be sure TMo would not block it though.
Are you saying it functions but ur getting the upsell page? If that's the case the baseband shouldn't matter. They block ur tethering based on your user agent. Make sure ur not using internet explorer. Best way around it is Firefox w/ the user-agent switcher add-on.
I'll keep that in mind. I however had the text from t mob saying its been blocked. It can still connect to the net but I get the up sell page.

Best tethering app

What app Oscar anyone using on their rooted Samsung s iii?
Prior to switching it was baked into my CM9 os. So I am not sure what app to download. I have tried one bit it is constantly stopping

WiFi Tether from the market works best for me!
I am seeing a lot of negative comments about this app 'wifi tether' and gs III stock. It seems to indicate that it does not play well together. This is why I was asking, because this was my experience today: No consistent connection, it simply drops the tether and the app stops.
Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk 2
Better get used to it if ur stayin stock. All that works unless u have the means to Bluetooth tether. If u can do it with Bluetooth try foxfi. Normal tether doesn't work with it yet. Also if u haven't done so, in addition to setting gnex profile in the tether app and unchecking the disable wake lock option, delete ConnectionManager.apk from /system/app. Probably the cause of your tethering woes
Thanks for confirming

Www.foxfi.com will let wifi sctivate with root or no root. Does work for gs3. I use it frequently with sprint.

WiFi Tether works for me just fine (gotta select the GNexus CDMA/LTE profile).
The only hiccup I've found is that before I activate tethering, I often need to do a fresh reboot on the GSIII, or else it will claim its broadcasting, but it really isn't.
And, of course, root IS required for this particular app.

I don't know enough about the rules on posting links so................
I did a google search for "wifi tether versions"
Down toward the bottom of the results I came across a page from the androidpolice site.
Right above the row of three screen shots is the following sentence: (If it does get pulled, however, you can always grab the apk from Here).
Click on the word "Here" and it will take you to the android-wifi-tether project home page.
Click on downloads and that will get you to where you want to be.
I am running Jelly Bean on my GS3 and have yet to be able to get wifi tether or foxfi to work at all.
I am about to start at the oldest version of wifi tether and work my way forward until I find something that works.
Until I find something stable, I will be using pdanet for wired tether. Hey, it works all day long for me.
On EDIT.............
Ignore most of the above and just google "android wifi tether project"
It will cut out most of the steps and is the first result on google.
Dang, I've been here almost two years and still considered a new member?
Had to wait 5 minutes before I could edit the post with better info.
Trust me, I'm a real person........not a spam bot!
Sure it has something to do with post count.
Any luck with older versions of wifi tether?

Not yet.
Work got real busy right after I made the post and I wasn't able to go through the apk's.
I have to go over to another house and do a few hours worth of work before I can really get in and mess with these.
It may be late this evening (for me) but I am still going to try and run through them.
Sorry about the delay.
I wasn't able to do anything with this until this morning.
I was unable to get any of the versions to work with JB.
Three different computers........three different os's, n one would see it.
Could possibly be that I am simply missing something.

WIFI TETHER on JELLY BEAN (FAKE)

So the title says it all!
This is aimed at us GS3 owners who are fortunate enough to be running Jelly Bean thanks to Freeza...Well one of the down sides of the LJ7 JB update is that WiFi Tether no longer works for us! What a shame!!
Well I may just have a solution that will make you and your phone very very happy.
Follow the steps below:
1) Download WiFi Tether app from Play Store
2) Open app, and hit Menu, then tap Settings
3) There should be an option in Settings to configure your device with the app, in that option change Galaxy SIII to Galaxy Nexus! This worked for me and I am now enjoying the pro's of LJ7 JB while tethering like a boss! haha
If this worked, please hit that thanks button, it helps me greatly

I am trying this but I can not make it work. The app says that it is working but nothing can see the SSID or connect.
I tried both of the nexus options and it's a no go.
Doesn't work
I'm just going to assume this method does not work. Sprint blocked the tethering in purpose, it doesn't work on jelly bean for the moment, unless you can show proof?

So this whole wifi tether issue. It seems fixable at some point and time. I had the hotspot working for like 2 days but never paid anything extra for it. It no longer works so I guess sprint is paying attention to something. LOL. I love the Jellybean though.
Tried it already...no go

Already tried them all. None work on JB...don't waste your time.
Does anybody know if it's possible to do USB tethering on Jelly Bean?
USB tethering works fine for me, using the 'easytether lite' app. Let's hope the wifi team solves the JB issue soon.
