[Q] ICS udate problems.. "Network coverage too poor" - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I get the message, "Network coverage too poor" when I click the "check for updates" button on my Acer A100. My network coverage is not poor, strong signal from my router that's right next to me. No other device has this Problem. I have seen other people have this issue, and I'm becoming frustrated by the lack of support From Acer on the ICS updates. Does anyone have any information on this problem? I kind of want to smash my A100 right now if I'm being honest... haha

Hi,
today i have the same issue as yours.
Don't think of a defective tablet.
this mornig at 1AM it was ok but without update

Yeah I have the same issue here.
Found out about it this morning, so I left it ALL DAY but those morons at Acer don't work fast now do they. It isn't that hard to maintain and deploy an update..
Somehow they still manage to mess it up. -.-

I too have this problem. I'm a firm believer its an Acer issue with there servers.
meXdroidMod!

Same here.
Early A100 Gen1 owner (pre-BlackFriday deal). Running the .012 leak since it first came out. Been checking System Update for days and getting "Up To Date" results but no OTA. Since late last night that's change to this new 'poor connection' error.
Other tricks I've tried include plugging in AC and removing all previous update.zip files from the external SD.
Might revert to stock HC and see what happens.

I'm having the same problem as well.

OTA checkin.acer.futuredial.com
I tried the OTA update checker, and it came back with an issue that it could not resolve the server name checkin.acer.futuredial.com. This is indicative of either the server being completely down, or there is a DNS problem.

I've reverted to a full factory reset of out-of-the-box HC 3.2 (via the power/volume/lock-rocking method).
Device is restored to HC 3.2 Gen1 but still no OTA available.
Meh.

Having the same issue -_-...

"network coverage is currently poor. please move to a location with better coverage to continue"
it even says this right beside the router

I hope we don't all get the Acer shaft

Still getting the Network Coverage too poor sign.
At first, I got it yesterday when i tried to proxy to Canada for my update since the Canadians were getting their update and I'm technically a Canadian on vacation.
I got "up to date" in Asia.
Now I'm getting the network coverage too poor even without the proxy. I hope that means I'm in line for an update when they fix this bug?

The network coverage issue seems to be resolved now for me. Check again!

No dice in Seattle. Still getting 'network coverage sukz fer yooz' running stock 3.2.1 Gen1.

At least we know the issue will resolve on it's own and there's nothing special you have to do. Mine was giving that error for two days and I didn't do anything to my a100 in that time.

I just had a chat with an acer L1 and all he did was send me a link to the instructions for preparing an A500 for the update. I mentioned earlier trying to use the OTA check application on my PC and it can't seem to reach the update server, so it's definitely not anyone's internet or Wi Fi connection.

still having these issues on my tab. I'll keep checking back. I hope this gets resolved soon!

I don't have an a500. But i heard a500 owners can get an update to get ics. Iconia tab update enhancement - at the android Market.

Got the same error yesterday using my home's Wifi which is freakin 10Mbps, that ain't poor network coverage. Then I used my phone to tether (3G speed) and it stopped complaining but no dice on the ICS update...
Got tired of waiting for Acer, so I flashed the leaked ICS, rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, flashed CWM recovery, it's working flawlessly now... Take that slow arse Acer support!!!

Have HTC pulled the OTA 2.2 update ?

Im reading about a fair few people who can't upgrade their unbranded handsets today.
Ive also heared a few noises that the update may have been suspended !
Yesterday was fine, I posted a walkthrough and link to a useful guide for debranding over on the android forum and most people were reporting back with success however today, two or three have mentioned that after debranding and installing a generic Rom they are getting the 'no update available, your handset is up to date' message when checking for the 2.2 update
Combine that with the thread on here about no update for unbranded T-Mobile and im beginning to wonder if somethings going on.
Most unbranded handsets will have most likely been updated by now so it will be interested to see if any more people who haven't yet done so are still offered the update.
don't know, but maybe they want to fix the issues before they roll out to more users.
Issues I have: GPS and WIFI don't work anymore. Pretty major, so I hope they push out a fix fast!
Today I should guide a friend to the OTA update. But she got same issue says device is up to date.
And she is unbranded no root stock 2.1 ROM. so sure something is going on in the HTC lab.
Exactly the same here - debranded a Vodafone UK Desire today and no update available :'(
Although if GPS + WiFi don't work for some people this is a pretty unstable release

No problem for me! Sorry for you.
It's wierd , I have an unbranded Desire with a Virgin sim in it. when I tried the check for software via mobile internet, nothing, said I was up to date, when I tried it via wifi, it updated seamlessly... No issues with wifi or GPS so far either. Best of luck to you though..
Yeah I had the option to upgrade yesterday and now it's gone, so +1 for the silently pulled theory.
I'm confused is the 2.2 update rolling out at the moment in the UK? I cant seem to get it on orange?
the funny thing is, wifi worked directly after the update (Sunday) but stopped working yesterday.
I tested GPS since I read other people had trouble with it, and indeed, no location fix for me.
I sent a mail to HTC support, hope they fix it soon.
they may have stopped it, but today isn't the first day I've tried it...
it didn't work on Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday either...
Pauly (op t-mobile thread)
someone over in t-mobile thread says you can't force the update through the check for updates button anyway, you need to wait for a service message?
Perhaps they are only sending the message out intermittently and I've been unlucky enough to be out of signal each time?

hmmm, thats that theory done then... contradicts HTC tech support apparently, but I'm not surprised by that
Thanks

if it is unbranded, try occasionally. it worked for me.
Maybe they did pull it. It updated last night by checking manually on my de-branded T-Mobile desire. I've had nothing but problems with froyo. Switching home screens seems laggier, as does the browser. Also, my biggest problem is the battery life seems to have gone terrible for me. I unplugged at 8:30am, its now 6pm, and I'm on 50% and I haven't used it at all as I've been in work. With 2.1 I'd have 80+% left.

not pulled..i just checked and the update URL is still working
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip
i hope this kills the rumour for good
I manually checked for upgrades on my unrooted and unbranded Desire on Sunday and it suggested Froyo. I hesitated to update cause I wanted to be able to root at a later time, and cancelled. When I manually checked for upgrades today, it claimed there weren't any. To me that also suggests that they pulled it.

Yep, I reckon so.
It certainly explains why people following my walkthrough for debranding over on the android forum haven't been ale to update to FroYo today yet yesterday and maybe even early this morning things were fine.

I think if you cancel an update Desire will no longer ask for it. (I think I read about a similar case in a Bulgarian forum which happened on the day of the update)

[Q] How to use wifi no contract ?

I switched to my older phone so that I could save ten a month for the time being. Though wifi isn't working. Anyone knows what gives or could be done so that wifi could be used ? -Thanks Nolon
Gonna need more info to be able to help you.
ROM, Modem, etc.
I'm using midNIGHT rom v.3.3. dk28 that's modem right ?
It shows that it connects to my home network but it looks like it kicks it off and says it is disabled.
Update the Modem to EB13 for starters.
I was thinking about calling Sprint too perhaps.

They're not going to be much help to you since you're running a custom Rom, they will recommend you go to a Sprint repair center and they're just going to ODIN your phone back to stock.
Will do. Just won't be able to atm. Do you think it's a Sprint issue or ? As it wasn't an issue until I killed the contract. I'll message back possibly tomorrow or the next day ? Busy with the kids.
It isn't within Sprints control to disable wifi from your phone, it's most likely some kind of modem issue.
Ah well it's been running for 75 hours. I'll reboot and post back tomorrow or tonight. Thanks for the info.
I figured it out. I noticed I was able to connect to open connections but not my secured connection regardless if I knew the password. I'm unsure what the issue was but I can only assume it's something to do with if you choose to severe your contract with Sprint or change phones that for whatever reason secured wifi connections won't work..But how did I fix it ? I changed my SSID and my password to my router. It's now running full speed. I'm still using version 3.3 midNIGHT. I need to change that out after figuring out if the video and camera will work better these days. It's been awhile since I've been on here or tinkered with my phone though. Just rearranged my computer today. Still need to blow it out though. :/ Anyways just for reference. Hope this helps if anyone has a similar issue at anytime.
Sprint has absolutely no control over your phone being able to connect to wif. It was most likely a problem with your network and I would guess a reset of your router would have solved the problem.

Perhaps I didn't write that properly. Thee incident occurred the day that I released my Epic from my contract with Sprint. Not that it happened because of Sprint. Unsure why it occurred. What I do know is resetting my router fixed the error and that if anyone else were to run into this problem. I hope they find this thread. My wifi connection is still running strong since I had reset the router also.
Did you try rebooting your router and modem? sounds like an IP conflict.
Do you BONSAI?

Telus - Limited internet connection

Ok, I'm not sure what's going on or how to fix this. Yesterday, I couldn't connect to the market, it kept telling me it was a network error. I could still browse the internet no problem. Then I notice that Facebook wasn't updating, so it is a connection issue. It's weird that I could still browse the internet and Google+ would load my streams as well as upload photos that were taken. I decided to do a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik) and re-install Oxygen2.1.6.
The re-install went fine, but now I still cannot connect to the Market so my apps aren't re-installing. Any ideas what might fix this since a full wipe didn't help?
Nothing had changed between the connection working and it not working. The phone wasn't rebooted, nothing changed in my APN settings either. Connection bars are all green.
Everything works fine when I'm connected to wifi.
*Restoring a previous backup doesn't work either and whenever I try to re-flash 2.1.6 I get a bootloop. So confused.
Nobody knows?
Really don't want to flash the RUU and re-root/s-off again if I don't have to. Just seems weird to me that this was working one evening then suddenly not working the next day with no re-boot or anything different installed in between.
I'm not using a desire but rather a nexus s.. but I'm having the exact same issue. I've tried just about everything except unrooting to fix it.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
I'm going to try flashing a different radio when I get home but I can't really see that fixing it as it's been working with no issues since I first rooted it a while back.
I tried several radios with no success. Its so strange. Gmail, xda, browser work.. but no market, Facebook, or twitter widget updates from launcher pro. I'm so confused.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Yea, all the same here. My YouTube app doesn't work either.
I've been experiencing the same problems. I've been researching and tinkering and I've found some interesting things out.
First off I am going to assume that you two are on the TELUS network, you never said but that is what I am on and I have heard no information about it occuring on other networks
I noticed it yesterday and initiated several re-flashes and radio updates, none of which helped. Today I went into TELUS and they told me that they have been having alot of people with the telus bravo encountering similar issues. So instead of frowning and walking out I decided to ask if I could speak to the technician.
According to him the issue is not a connection to the network, rather that either the phones radio or the network is dropping the connection partway through data transfer. Therefore you can get through the connection, DNS and handshake processes, but it will fail during the transfer of data, but at no specified time. So I could use Grasscities Tapatalk app because it was just transferring text and other light data, but downloading large amounts of data winds up failing, which is why you can’t get market to work. TELUS does not know if the issue is only affecting desires (looks like it’s wider than just that) or if it is happening on any other network. They are in the information gathering phase and still waiting on a reply from HTC’s technical team to see if it is a problem affecting the radios.
I’ve spent most of the last 48 hours trying to solve this problem with no luck. TELUS has assigned me top level case advisement so I will update this thread as I know more about the problem. In the meantime, and I know how much it sucks, you will have to stick with wifi (as will I T_T)
Yeah, I'm on Telus. That would explain why a friend with a Nexus S on Rogers had no problems at all. I sure hope Telus figures this out soon. For now, I'm subscribing to this thread and hoping you hear something back. I'll update if I notice my data connection has returned to normal. Thanks for the info!
Also on Telus. Thanks so much for the update. I was thinking it was something on their part and have been meaning to call them but I'm at work. Just kinda assumed it wasn't their fault since some data did work, but it's good to have an answer.
Now I just need to figure out why my phone keeps bootlooping on a fresh 2.1.6 Oxygen install.
No problem guys, I know how frazzled you feel; I’ve been the exact same way for the last 48 hours.
Though I must say I am surprised that the forums are not all aflutter with discussion about this. The way the technician at TELUS was talking it sounded like they were getting a lot of calls about this. But dear freaking god I hope they get this solved soon… and if not then they had better let me out of my contract.
glad to hear it's not just me.. this has been happening since I went and saw U2 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto Monday night.. Every time I tried to upload pics I was taking at the concert it would just pause on the upload, or fail out completely.. my signal was dropping to nothing there as well.. I thought, being at the "Rogers" centre, that perhaps they'd set up a Telus signal blocking station
But then the problems have continued through to today. Some stuff kinda works.. I can get FB and Twitter updates from my Colorize Widgets, but can't actually use the FB app. twitter.com works, but facebook.com doesn't. google works sometimes.. but most pages time out in the manner mentioned above.
Quite annoying.
That's weird. This has been happening since yesterday for me, but last night it had no problems Instant Uploading pictures to Google+.
Some functionality has returned for me. Market still won't load.. but Facebook half-loads and the twitter widget in launcherpro is loading again. They must be working on it. I hope they fix it all soon.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Still all down on my end. Hope it gets resolved by tomorrow.

All function has been restored for me. Hope you guys are good too.

[Q] Anyone else having severe (wifi) tethering issues. Link to GoogleCode Bug

edit: can't post links, too much noob.
go to google code, search for -- Issue 38563: Upgrade to 4.1.2 broke tethering --
My tethering appears to have gone to crap since 4.1.2
There are quite a few variables so I'm not sure where the problem is, on top of that the issue is not 100% consistent.
It appears that when I am not tethered I get a decent ping on my phone (150ms, 95%)
Shortly after initiating a tether my connection goes straight to hell (300-3000ms 50%)
My laptop is often even worse than my phone.
This is usually with a full 5 bars of 'H'.
I'm gathering the ping stats from my phone with terminal emulator.
I'm using a MacBook Air.
I will try to reproduce the issue with my nexus 7 when I have some spare time.
Anyone else experiencing something similiar?

I, like many others have had this problem since 4.1.2, rolled back to 4.1.1 and WiFi tethering worked again. Back to 4.1.2, stopped working again. Installed 4.2 on Gnex yesterday hoping for fix but still no good.
As 4.1.2 is "old hat" now I have started new issue at Google for 4.2 here
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39618
Please anybody with same problem go there and add to report.
DO NOT turn it into a *****ing thread like so many here on xda.!!! The item to which luck02 referred for 4.1.2 at code.google.com is just full of twats ranting about their phone suppliers charges for data and crap like that.
code.google.com is to report faults and bugs and by everybody contributing pertinent information maybe Google will look for a fix. Trolling and whinging does nothing but obscure the facts...... please respect this. Just tell them model number, build and describe fault - thanks
Well there is definitely some ranting and twats involved but to my mind that's just part and parcel of being on the internet. Ignore and contribute as you can. Has anyone tried the CM build on the GNEX? Also, has anyone confirmed / denied whether third party wifi tether applications resolve the issue (requires root)?
Actually even more importantly, has anyone isolated where the breakage is actually occurring? I'm assuming it's something in the drivers / networking layer that is screwing up the routing between incoming data and the wifi layer...
I will probably downgrade if nothing else works.
So I got frustrated and rooted / installed clockwork recovery.
Moved to CM 10 and still have the same issue. I'm thinking it's actually a carrier issue for me at this point.
My carrier term expires in January and I'll probably go to a different carrier then.
Will follow up with more information as I have it, I may roll back to an older version of CM to confirm the problem is still occurring.

Definitely not carrier for me, proved by numerous attempts and firmware this weekend. Gnex running 4.1.1 everything works perfectly. Let phone do ota to 4.1.2, broke WiFi tethering and Bluetooth to vehicle completely. Reinstalled 4.1.1 thro Odin and re-partitioned at same time so completely clean install, WiFi tethering and Bluetooth worked perfectly. Continued on complete wipe track by then installing 4.1.2 thro Odin with re-partition (thus removing possibility that incremental upgrade to 4.1.2 was to blame) still no WiFi tethering or Bluetooth.
Did same for 4.2 using Odin still didn't work. Returned to 4.1.1 using Odin, everything worked.
Even made my own Odin package using radio from 4.1.1 (even tho supposedly same as 4.1.2) system and other files from 4.2 - same result, nothing worked.
To eliminate doubt used same sim card in two HTC phones running 4.0.4, both showed correct working and tethering and Bluetooth. Conclusion, not carrier/ supplier related, but surely random hardware/ firmware incompatibility on some examples of Gnex for unfortunate souls such as us
Tried two WiFi tethering apps with exact same result... shows tether as working, greyed out WiFi icon on tab and no go on laptop or desktop....I have spent hours on this to no avail
Have you tried any network diagnostics while not tethered?
I may be getting carrier and 4.1.2 issues. I was running some ping tests while not tethered yesterday. Full 5 bars of 'H+' running CM10 and I was getting horrible signal. More than 50% dropped packets and long ping times.
I'll roll back to an older CM sometime soon and see if there's a difference over the next couple of days.
Thank you,

I'm Noob, I got problem same error on 4.2 and 4.2.1, this issue over half a month.
I have google some website, found have several people like us have this issue and still no idea to fix it...
Mostly couldn't connect to laptop or Mac Book. For me is PlayStation Vita (firmware 2.0 Wifi only)
My PS Vita could deal with my galaxy Nexus on 4.1.2 , but 4.2 is could reach Internet correctly.
I have tried several Wi-Fi Device to connect my Galaxy Nexus,
My PC , My PS3, My PSP, My Uncle Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 (Samsung image) are working fine.
Only my PS Vita couldn't...
But base on others, have same issue on other device, so I did think this issue may cause by 4.2.
Base on this issue, I have try "wifi-tether" , whatever this download on Google play! or "3.3 pre-2" on their website.
I have it running on Factory 4.2 , 4.2.1 Rooted + Super user, this couldn't work correctly.
Running on KALO 2.0 ROM, this have error on "Clamping MMS"....
No Luck for me.
My GNexus is only one device at the moment, which could let my PS Vita online... I have some PS Vita game need running online.
This force me stay on 4.1.2 and try disable System update notification next minute, for several weeks or month until the solution come...
Or... Anyone could build a patch which could let 4.2 using 4.1.2 Wi-Fi tethering engine?

N2 wifi problem: network disabled. poor connection

Hi. 2 days ago my note 2 suddenly stopped connecting to the internet. i get the message "network disabled. poor connection". i have tried many different wireless (public, home, work, parents, friends) with the same resault. first i tried a factory reset to see if that fixed the problem, but it didnt.
the phone were at that point on the first german 4.1.2 version, so i decided to install the latest firmware for Nordic countries (since im from Norway) to see if it would fix it. but still the same problem.
today i tested my wifes S3 to see if she had the same problem, and she did. so now both our phones are without internet. does anyone have an idea on how to fix it? should i try a different 4.1.2 version for another country or should i downgrade to 4.1?
Same problem me s3 any solution.?

Sounds like the problem is not with the phones but with the network. you can try waiting a while to see if things improve, or else do a power-down reboot of your router AND your phones to see if that will solve the problem.
Reboot your device first off. Check if other devices can connect to said network. Worst case reboot your internet equipment (router/modem). Failing all that are the phones rooted? If so try a different radio
