Hey all,
This may sound super noob but my phone was having some neglegible issues before I did the FD24 OTA update as per QBKing77's video. Anyway, now I can't open my gallery for some reason or use my camera. Major deal breaker for me.
How can I flash back to EL29 safely? I don't have root and have not rooted this device.
-For reference, I used to flash roms on my EVO but haven't on the E4GT because I can't find a good guide to Odin and don't know how it works.

Here's a guide on Odin.

Hi i currently have stock rom but have it rooted. Can someone provide me with a link to update my phone to the new update w/root or let me know what I need to do? Thanks!
Also I am not sure if I am running ext or rfs can some tell me how to figure that out?
A great place to start learning about modding the Epic are the QBKing77 videos on youtube. Just search for them or check out the links to his videos in most of the OPs in the development section. There are a ton of custom roms to play with right now, as well as the stock EI22 Gingerbread rom that came out OTA.
Thanks as I said though I am already rooted but unsure if its ext 4 or RFS I need help figuring that out and then I think I can just odin it from their.
I wish to stay on stock.
Might I suggest taking a look at the MostlyStockROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339579
You can even go to the "old links" and choose to download the deodexed only first release which is Stock + doedexed + root. Or choose one of the newer releases which has the fixes/features you want.
If you want EI22 Fully Stock then I believe you will need to unroot your existing install and install the OWA. I haven't seen a stock ODIN method but may have missed it.
I see. How do I unroot my phone?
odin back to stock ec05.
ok so then how do I root my phone after going back to stock updating then what?
Or couldn't I just do a factory reset then update?

Once you odin back to stock ec05, it'll do the OTA update onto ei22. That's how I did my phone. Warning, once you odin back, you'll lose all your app and data.
I'm not worried about that I have titanium back up pro. their has got to be a easier way to do this though. Before All I had to do was Odin to the next update and that was it (eco5) now I have to odin back to stock remove root then update and then reroot...... thats a lot of work.
Is their a way to do this without un-rooting my phone?
Also can someone shoot me a link to a tutorial on going back to stock?
Also once root is removed I take it I would have to re root it. (this is ridiculous un root, update, reroot)
So what DO i do to re-root it?

you can just download the file and install it using CWM but i'm 0 for 2 with this method.

Follow the video that babystewie posted. I've used it twice, both succeeding with no issues what so ever. It will allow you to update to GB with root, but will give you a stock version of GB. If you're interested in rooting GB as well, check the video description and there's some more videos.
There are a lot of mostly stock roms or even just a cwm flashable ei22 in the development section. You'll keep root and won't have to go through using odin so many times.
what do you mean a stock version of gingerbread? also I already have clockwork if that helps does it mean i have ti do anything different if i want to keep root?
There really is no completely stock Gingerbread ROMs because we don't have the tar file for the Odin flash. There are several ROMs in the Development thread (where the ROMs are) that are mostly stock. You can simply flash one of those, and if you want the EI22 modem, you can flash the EC05 to EI22 modem updater found in the stickies in development. I recommend you start here:

I cam from the evo 4g and rooted and ran several roms, my concern in rooting the epic is that Samsung updates wont be coming as quickly to fix problems. I love running custom roms. Can you unroot this phone if need be? What way would you recommend rooting this phone? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance

hi compared to eve , the process is simple you will find a guide here, but in a nutshell you will use Odin tool.
best way to root will be to download a recovery in .tar form and flash it with odin, then download and save calkulin's or anyone's rom you want, modem, and flash it by following instruction...read instruction for using odin carefully else u will need more help...
Samsung phones are easy to root. Especially if you're coming from an Evo. There is a ton of support here on the forums, just check out the development section and do some homework. It's all there. You can root this phone with confidence.

No need install custom rom through Odin.....no need to root using odin.
Link I provided in previous post takes care of that.
Unroot is pretty simple
Flash EG30 stock tar though Odin , you will out of the box stock with no root.
Also:
Buy yourself a $2.00 jig its always good to have around if things go bad - brick or if Odin flash count clear is needed for Sprint store service visit.

I haven't updated my phone yet it is still running EG30 so that might be useful. I'm wanted to root and install a recovery but I'm kinda worried about these modems and kernels not being compatible with each other and all the people bricking their phones. So my question is how should I go about rooting this and getting a custom recovery so I can flash Caulks or CM7 on this?
I've never used ODIN I don't really like the idea of having to plug my phone into a computer everytime I want to flash something but if it's the best way to root then so be it.
If you search the threads or go to youtube there is a guy by the name of qbking77 who would give you step by step guides on rooting device ave guides for flashing different things for your device
I've been watching his video's. I was thinking about doing the auto root but I don't know which kernel/cwm to flash I think is my problem. Do we have a way to root the newest update? Should I just update and root from there and then apply the newest kernel and cwm?
I'm coming from a EVO 4G so this isn't what I'm used to exactly.
If I flash a new el26(?) kernel and still have the old modem won't I run into problems? I'm a bit confused about this whole set up and how it relates to the roms instead. I know on the evo the Radio and Kernel sometimes ran into conflicts but it was simple to flash a new Kernel or Radio then re-flash a rom to fix it.
Well to be honest im not to sure im just stock rooted when u update you still can root the phone, all I did was just update my modem to ek02 to match the update, that's what the update put you on is ek02, im not really into flashing roms and things like that
I rooted my phone through Odin with El13. I like the Odin method and you only have to do it once to gain root access. Since then I flashed a different kernal and changed to SL26 through CWM. What I would recommend is finding a QBking77 rooting method on YouTube and its that easy. Once its rooted you can flash different kernals, modems, and roms through CWM that work best for your phone. QBking77 videos make it really easy to understand.

Follow this video to obtain root: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be2evusAwOM
Then...
Follow this video to install cwm recovery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZRnH-_XZmM
That is what I did and its a good way to gain root and cwm. Don't forget to click thanks for sfhub for his auto root script.
Again, by request I am making this thread for everyone.

yes, I really appreciate how fast you get these videos up. You rock!
I'm looking for a video that walks through how to A) root the E4GT, B) do a backup of all data, C) flash a new ROM, D) unroot and E) flash back to stock status. Does that video exist @qbking77? Or can you not go back to stock status after you've rooted and installed a new ROM. I get all backwards with understanding Odin, Clockworkmod, etc. etc. and you're videos are pretty concise.
Thanks!

Rooted EL29 MD5
For some reason I can't get CWM to work on my rooted EPIC 4G Touch. So...is there a MD5 of rooted EL29 available?
chris41g hasn't released EL29+CWM yet.
I lost all data/voice without WIFI. I was on a stock rooted EK02 and flashed to EL29 then a FF18 based ICS rom. Rom works great can connect to all Gapps via WIFI, however lost all phone services. Anyone know if I missed something or what I can do to fix this.
Did you flash a new modem?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
not sure. what would I have to had done to know if I did?
Big question is HOW did you go from EK02 to EL29? Then how did you get up to FF18?
If you used sfhub's One-Clicks there should be no problems at all. The one clicks contain kernel, ROM and modem.
Did you go into settings>About Phone> and update PRL and Update Profile?
You can try a ##72786# reset (which will reset nvram and cause your phone to reprovision) You won't lose user data, it just resets provisioning data. Open the dialer and punch those keys in (requires a TW dialer)
Sounds like you need to slow down and take some serious time to check out the stickies and read through the forums or you will certainly bork this device.
This device is WAY different the the HTC devices.
Ok so I flashed a modem. Didn't do that before. As to getting back to el29 you have to do the one touch root method and pick the version you want to go to or download the tar file and do it via odin.
For you the best would be to go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Download the RESET user data version. Follow the instructions on how to flash/install it. This one-click has everything. Just take you time and follow sfhub's well written and detailed instructions. Easy peasy
You'll then have a 'clean' EL29 with root.
IF you want/need CWM;
Then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 download the 'Full' Autoroot package and follow the instructions and choose EL29+CWM-Rogue to give you a Clockwork Mod recovery.
If you're feeling like you want to step up to ICS then you can use sfhub's One-Click here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229 to take you to the latest ICS leak (FF18) - Kernel, ROM and Modem all at one shot. The autoroot package has options for adding Agat's FF11 CWM (ICS) recovery/kernel if you want that too.
Again I would highly recommend reading a whole lot more to insure you don't turn your phone into a diving weight.
