I play starcraft 2 just fine on my PC via wifi tethering but I feel like on a first person shooter you would run into lag.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA

how can you play when sprints PING is like 200-350 ms?? its just horrible lag.

On 4G my ping in 60-90 with 8-14 mbit down and 1.5 up... If I was on my phone I would upload a few screen shots... I would get rid of it if it's just you using it... I have family at home so they use uverse... Fyi the most I've downloaded on 4g in a month is 240 gigs... Lots of 1080p bluray mkv's
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2

to me if you tether a phone that often you will eventually see some problems from the hardware or the battery, even. do you not get interference when you receive a text or call? i know they run on a different spectrum but in my experience i've had a lot of interference when receiving a call.
again though, my main concern would be hardware damage.

That, or having your service terminated by sprint too. Sprints 4g isn't consistent enough to play any real time games with other people. You may think your fine... but people will curse you as you lag kill.

Is there a 4G tower in your back yard? That's ridiculously good!

Last cycle I used my phone yo download and stream about 80 gigs of data unteathered and sprint called me and said I was in violation of the ToS so im getting wifi to use instead. But its just a tad annoying for a company to sell unlimited data and then limit the ammount you can use and still not be able to tell you how much is to much.

This gets "discussed" about every month, usually turns nasty and trollish. And I might even agree with you, to a point.
What it comes down to is the ToS does NOT allow for unlimited data via tethering.
And yes, if they GAF, they could very easily tell what device is consuming that data.

Free tether to ps3

Wondering if we can tether ps3 for free using the sprint evo 4g? Thanks guys.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Yes you can tether to your ps3 for free as long as your rooted. But I wouldn't recommend unless you have full bars on 4g or the lag will be unbearable. Also don't do it to much cause it uses A LOT of data and might look suspicious

You probably can, if you have gingerbread and/or a phone capable of wireless tethering. Just try it out

they can tell your tethering if your barely using a any data then jump to about 10GB randomly. They can terminate your contract without warning(not that bad lol)
I tether my ps3 for black ops,mw3 and bf3 with only 2-3 bars and its fine. I would say as long as you're pulling down at least 1mb a sec you should be fine. You can play an hour or 2 and only use like 50mb give or take.

The problem with tethering a phone to a game system is the lag. Ping times on 3g and even 4g can average 200ms, even go up to 1000ms, which would make any game (especially fps games) unplayable. And since it's a wireless signal, the speed and ping times will vary every single second, unlike a cable/dsl modem, which means you could play fine for a minute and then get a weak signal and your connection to the game will probably drop
they do stand by their unlimited data, but going form a cpl gb a month to 10 or more would raise concerns... and yes it is unlimited, but remember wifi hotspot is an add on feature. so actually you are stealing service.

It doesnt matter what it costs them... they and all other providers charge for this feature. So do you think its not stealing to put a splitter on a neighbors cable line and run it to your house? try that and see what happens. Im just saying if you do it and you data goes up by a crazy amount dont be surprised if something happens.

Yes I have noticed this also and 50k is the magic number I am getting from adownloader as well when two weeks ago it had been a stead 10-12mb down for months. I had a feeling after seeing my GB usage over the last several months a cap would drop. It is weird though since when I test in 4G with speed net that my download is at 12mb. I'll be putting my netflix in full effect soon to test that out to see if there is a reduction in quality because I'm curious how they can ascertain the difference in my usage.

I've seen this with adownloader as well. I flashed FC15 modem and it solved this issue as well as other data related things. I'm on Calks FC24 rom.
You can't forward ports on sprint unless you run through a VPN (meaning your not connectable)...even then, it is still possible to determine your torrenting due to the fact that sprint blocks all DNS requests that aren't through them, so sprint sees the DNS request for tracker.isohunt.com or whatever crappy public tracker your using and are essentially tied to your account and therefore your name.
This is not to mention that the BitTorrent protocol itself is not very secure, and even with RC4 encryption it's still ridiculously easy to see that your torrenting and not watching Netflix via DPS (deep packet inspection), using the default port, etc...
The only way to use a DNS server that is not sprints is with openVPN (which will destroy your battery life) as they DNS hijack, or forward all port 53 traffic to their DNS servers (iptables? Ngnix?).
if your gonna go that length to torrent on-the-go you mine as well just set up a subsonic server for yourself and do the torrenting at home.
Seriously...Does nobody bother to research stuff like this before you do something that can get you in hot water in the first place?
I really hope your service gets shut off... Good luck finding another provider that wont charge you for the amount of data you are using.

I noticed this as well. A couple days ago is when i started getting 50 on GingerBread. I haven't tried again since flashing an ics rom with fc24 modem but the internet feels back up to full speed.
The problem is sprint has no way of or doesn't care to determine legal torrents from illegal torrents. They just see torrent traffic and throttle.
Back when I was on GB my speedtest still showed full speed but other things were effected too. I tried one or two direct downloads and got exactly 50 as well.
This is not a Sprint thing. I have a family member who has clearwire for their broadband at home and on the go and they mentioned to me last weekend that they cannot download torrents anymore because the speed is to low. They called and talked to clearwire about having speed issues and clearwire told him they have no idea what he is talking about.
So it looks like clear is shutting it down not Sprint. But try it on 3G and see what speed you get. If your pulling decent 3G and it is locked to 50k then I suspect that it may be both companies in tandem.
I was d/l at 1mb/s on atorrent yesterday. FC24 modem
Be careful, they WILL shut your service off without warning. I use wifi 80% of the time, but just happened to be on wimax yesterday.

It doesn't matter about the legal or illegal torrents.....it's breaking sprints tos ....the tos that everyone signed says no downloading of files...so technically when we download roms from xda we are breaking tos and subject to throttle or termination etc .

Question for you all: truly unlimited throttle

So about mud day yesterday, I was watching YouTube, all of a sudden everything started buffering no matter what video I watched. Downloaded a couple files and speeds were only 30kB/s. Didn't think anything of it. Thought it was the host. Didn't do much else but use tapatalk and noticed things were a but slow. Did a speed test and it shot up to like 300kB/s then hovered around 30-50kB/s felt that awfully strange.. as that's what would happen on my old throttle plan.
So I went to bed not thinking of it.
Got up this morning and speeds were the same. Stayed the same for the entire day til I got fed up and called T-Mobile. They "said" I wasn't being throttled. And after I *****ed they "reset" my phone on their network and things were back to normal.
Has anyone else experienced like symptoms? I'd hate to think they went this low to throttle us..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Are you sure you have the truly unlimited 4G plan... Or the unlimited data with let's say 2gb, 5gb or 10gb of 4G data.
If you have the truly unlimited data then you shouldn't be throttled. But if you have one of the other three plans where they cap the 4G data then they throttle you after that certain point.
Or maybe t mobile was having issues with your tower and had to reset the connection?

17 gigs? I really don't see how most people can go over 5 without tethering. I use my phone constantly and I've never gone over 2. Even with what I use on wifi, which might be another 2gb, is still not even 5gb's. So, I can only ASSUME you have been tethering, and they figured it out. That would explain the throttle.

You get 100 uses of tethering anyhow. Then they block you. But as psykhotic said get Netflix and watch HD movies and then tell me how much data you use. Not to mention you can download torrents via your phone. And I never use WiFi except for when transferring files to my phone.
But irregardless, it's unlimited, there shouldn't be a throttle period.

No not 100 uses of tethering.
You can use 100 MB before the block you if you already used the work around on the software they have on the phone.
The program by default on the phone though will actually block you right away.
Unless you use a custom APN then you get blocked after 100 MB.
If you change your User Agent on your browser the the User agent of the phone and you won't get blocked.

And streaming music doesn't use that much data, you'd have to watch 8 or 10 movies on Netflix to hit a gig. Don't tell me you watch 10 movies a week on your phone. I feel sorry for your eyes.
It is the abuse of the system that will do nothing but raise data rates for all of us. Thanks alot people, enjoy your rerun's of Charles in Charge.

As mentioned, you could try to do some port forwarding, if your tether application allows it.
The other issue is the ping times. In my experience, pring times on the mobile platform are a bit high, usually in the 90 to 120ms. This usually ends with data packet loss. It's enough that if you do the Xbox Live test connection, you're going to end up with a NAT result of strict or, if lucky, moderate.
And depending on the bandwidth speeds in your area on Sprint, you may just be getting enough speed to connect, like some DSL plans. I have a feeling even if you did, you probably lag pretty bad and end up with a less than fun experience.
Needless, I wouldn't suggest trying to use mobile connection for XBL unless absolutely necessary.
Why would u want to ruin everybody else's gameplay with you lagging while tethered with your phone
Playing black ops with my 3g sprint network is far from fun...however I have had luck with low bandwidth demanding games such as Tiger Woods.

Hahah yea I'm on the grandfathered unlimited. I have been switching my APNs around and found that I got my lte speeds back but recently they throttled me to around 400-500kbs. not a big deal really since I use my phone like a laptop anyways and I still get to do everything I want with those speeds. Just takes some patience for Netflix or videos to load though.

Perhaps this is silly to ask but I'm not going to assume anything - have you gone through that much data without tethering? If so, that is quite a feat!

Ya that would be impressive. I never tether and my record is 16 GB.

Definitely tethering. We don't have internet at our apartment so I tether. Mostly streaming. Heh heh

I've hit 150~GB without tethering. Constant pirating and/or having something (music, Facebook, Google+ picture uploads, DropBox, Box, etc.) use my data 24/7. My passive aggressive way of telling AT&T that I will not be denied my data usage even when throttled at 5GB.

Wow. If I were AT&T I wouldn't even be mad. That's amazing.
