I'm getting low signal continually, including at home where my other phones always have 5 bars. Half the day today, I showed no signal, and never went higher than 2 bars. I'm having a lot of calls go straight to voicemail.
I'm running the newest prl on El29 with blazer rom. Is this a modem issue, a prl issue, or something else?
Try EK02.

Signal bars can show anything the manu wants. Just ask Apple....
If you want to really compare, check the dB strength on all your phones and see.
Ya but when it indicates no signal, I'm missing calls.

i've had the same thing today. happened around 4 central time. switched roms figured maybe something wrong on one. found out it was a ougtage in our area. they are working on it.
Try flashing a different modem. FD19 works best for me. Others say EL29 was best for them. Just try a few and always update profile and prl.

on fd02 and kernal is el 29. i even tried stock and still no signal. other sprint users in my area don't have signal either and they aren't rooted
I've been having similar issues in my area lately as well. I've been getting 2/4 bars at home now instead of 3/4 bars like usual. I tried both EL29 and FD19 modems, but still getting the same problem. Also running Blazer Rom.
i'm on tsm revamped
I'm having the same issue.. I'm on alpha 3

Im having a simular problem only get 1 bar of service in my driveway and no 4g at home or work. Has any one made a high gain replacement antenna for the e4gt? Im running a stock le29 thats rooted and clw.
Thanks to the guys here for all the info on everything.
Any updates to this? I've tried 4 different modems and all give me periodic loss of signal, while my evo next to it sits at full strength.

not sure on speed since i never used it.. but i have not once had LoS on EK01 and i been using it the day it was released.
On eg31 my speed were the best I've seen so far and 4g worked well. Since I have switched to ek02 I've noticed the phone acts a lot more quirkier now. the 3g speeds are back to what they were ( a k a terrible) and 4 g conectivity is a lot more erratic. however, I have not had an los issue this entire time I've been running ek02 but I do believe that is because they implemented some of the Los kernel into it; I've witnessed my phone go from perfect signal to no signal and then the phone does a soft reboot without me touching it.

My phone out of the box is still on EG30 with no updates pushed to me yet. I'm not sure what to do with all the info on this subject. Some say bad, others say no problems... Using this phone for the past week I'm still not really sure what everyone is talking about, no soft resets at all for me. I had an Evo 4G before and with my coverage area it just seemed spotty, so to say the signal "drops" im not sure. The only thing I have noticed is when I'm in a 4G area my Evo did drop the signal a lot, when I'm in a 4G area with this phone it stay's connected all the time and is very fast.
It's more or less one of those things you're going to have to try and see. I've had great results with a full ek02 setup and calks 2.01a.
My suggestion... try a full ek02 setup. You can go back now.

Yeah I've run pretty much all of them (with the exceptions of FD19 and FD26). I had some decent ratings on FB27, FC05 and FD10 but EL29 always gave me the best.
I've had the best of luck on EL29 as well. Which isn't saying much however as the speeds are still MEH for me.
People will tell you every phone is different and you have to try them all but I really don't see how that could possibly be the case. There would have to be some serious quality control issues in Samsung's production line for that to happen. All of that said, I did try a whole bunch of them (EL29, FB, FC, FD) in one sitting to try to get as close to an apples to apples comparison as possible. EL29 came out the winner for me too.
I use FD19
FD19 has given me the best results so far. I am getting 1.3 Mbps down (with only -91db of signal in my middle-of-nowhere home.) This is versus FD26 which I only got 748Kbps down.
EL29 hands down. sitting in the exact same spot, FD26 hit avg. 0.45. first test on EL29 in the same spot got 1.56. averaged 0.75 on 4 tests. (In San Francisco)
3G and 4G speeds. I used to never get 4G in this spot. Yay for network vision?

No because Network Vision deal with LTE - not wimax.

I signed up with tmobile about two weeks ago and have had no complaints until now. All of a sudden I am having trouble keeping a constant data connection at my place of business. Idk if its my phone or a problem with the local tower but the signal is all over the place while browsing the web. It looks like a strong signal until I go to use data then it drops to nothing. Last week this wasn't a problem at all.
Any tweeks or hardware I can buy to help remedy this?
My phone is completely stock and I am on the 30/month pre paid plan if that makes a difference.
Are there any better radios out that can be installed maybe?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Is WIFI available at your place of business? If you are completely stock I'm assuming you are on GB. If that is the case use the WIFI calling feature offered by T-Mobile. If WIfI is not availiable you can try flashing the Blaze modem it improved my data speeds.

Unfortunately WiFi is not available. I will look onto flashing the blaze modem. Thanks!
If ICS is indeed right around the corner will it come with different modems?

Well hopefully it is right around the corner and we can have the current crop of ICS roms rebased off the T-Mobile S2 stock build and not from our distant cousin AT&T SkyRocket's build. But to be honest I’m not sure if it will or will not but I’m assuming it will as the current set of radios needed to be tweaked to work on current ICS roms. Any who if you want Mr. X has a list of some radios that he has tried and reported working he listed radios for both GB & ICS which I will post a link to his thread below. Try them out and you might just find one that works for you.

I called tmobile about what was going on. They said they were going to try to reset my data connection and that I should reboot my phone and of its not fixed in a couple hours then to call them back.
I did this and all is well again! I'm back to a good signal and have not had any data issues in the past couple hours!
Thanks for all your help though it was greatly appreciated!

Haven't seen much difference and I been on it all day. 4g seemed to connect a little bit better.

MOST modems will perform the same, to be honest. Sprints network is slow as it is, not like flashing a new modem will make a jump in speeds. Its a placebo anyway. With EVERY new modem, the same people will say 3G is better, or 4G is better, or Wifi, Gps, ETC. when in actuality......it doesnt!
Ive had fairly good luck with most of the modems. But today I was not happy with FE07. 4G kept dropping out alot and way too many times 3G was not working. But it works enough to not complain yet. If it goes on for more than another day I will double check FD26.
From EK02 up I can expect up to 15 Mbps on 4G and 500 Kbps to 2 Mbps on 3G. If I see those figures pop up over the course of a week I figure its doing alright. If I have a horrible experience the entire week, crappy performance and never hit anywhere near those numbers then I begin to suspect something. Nearly every modem I have been on had 1.40 to 1.49 Mbps on 4G Upload. When that goes sour on a modem all the time its a quick sign if it persists.
best modem for GPS so far?
Which modem seems to lock on the best with GPS. On EL29 and it isn't very good at all, connects for a while then drops leaving me hanging or won't connect at all. Are they all pretty much the same in this regard? My EVO 4G was really good on GPS.

Samsung devices have not been known for having the best GPS hardware. EL29 is the latest official release but there are several ICS modems available. Try some of them and see how it goes... latest is fe07 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642564

You could brag to your friends about having the latest ICS kernel installed
I like to listen to a streaming talk show on my phone when I shower in the morning. I need wifi to do it, no data at home. Some modems will not connect to my wifi in the same bathroom which is the furthest from the router. Other modems will connect with a strong connection. I don't think every modem is the same.

Well I have had gps issues with all the ICS leaks but I have noticed big differences in speed between certain modems fd19 is a solid modem but fe07 is just as fast for me and my gps actually works especially in navigation and our app places.
The top 3 speeds are on fe07 the bottom 3 are fd19 on 4g

FE07 has been good for me so far. Some of the leaks really crippled my 3G, but FE07 seems to work just as well, if not better, than EL29 - at least for me anyway. Haven't tested GPS yet.
For me, No modem seems to work. I guess I'm plain out of luck. There are no towers near me so my phone ALWAYS(sometimes) fails to send text messages or even make calls.
Anyone one have any suggestions I can try?

You should ALWAYS(sometimes) switch to another carrier.
But seriously, allow roaming if you haven't done so already.
Wouldn't I get charged extra for roaming?

You should be ok as long as you're in your coverage area. I roam all the time and don't get charged extra. I think it has to do with whether you're on Sprint's towers/network or not, and whether those towers are in your coverage area. Might be worth a *2 to Sprint to find out.

Use roam control to force roaming. They will eventually send you a letter telling you they're canceling your account (no early termination fee) due to excess roaming, and you can sell your E4GT and go to another carrier!

I noticed this too but it isn't a reception issue unless you go into settings and see a difference in the dBm otherwise what I do know is that touchwiz isn't really "true" signal it adds on a couple bars just so ur phone looks better but when u flash an aosp you get your true signal which with me ranges from 1-2 bars and if I'm next to a tower I get around 3 bars so its just the way aosp and touchwiz handles signal

You could call in to Sprint to see if a tower is down in your area, but if not you could try flashing a different modem or getting an AirAve from Sprint to boost your signal
