Okay I have this random question about a difficult bug to fix in roms it seems. On almost every rom the camera is broken. Now that would never be a deal breaker for me cause I don't use it. I'm just wondering why it is the hardest to fix. Any one know?
Huh? What do you class as "broken"? I think I must of flashed nearly every ROM at some point, and only a handful had a few bugs. What ROM you using and what's the issue?

Haven't had any camera probs yet on any ROMs I have tried, can you elaborate?
I'm not saying mine doesn't work. It does great. But over the years I've noticed that is usually a bug in new roms. I just wanted to know why it can be hard to fix.

I think the answer is some drivers are built around a custom framework such as HTC sense or Samsung touchwiz. That makes compiling a rom that needs drivers for an aosp rom (a rom with no framework overlay) somewhat difficult to hack together.
But im no dev so... yeah.

Okay just always wondered that

Hey I did some searches and couldn't turn up any solid answers to my questions but is it possible and likely we would get a port of the sense rom to galaxy nexus or is there a reason i don't see a stable version in CDMA Development?
Its possible but unlikely. Most people buy nexus devices to get away from skins.

If it is ported it's likely to be broken.

I don't really see the point of porting Sense to a Nexus device. I mean, since it wasn't originally to this device, it will be buggy and probably never run smoothly. Sense is very beautiful, in my opinion, but it's bloated beyond usage.
On a completely unrelated note, my favorite two ROMs for the Galaxy Nexus are AOKP for its customizability, and CM9 for being, well, CM9.
True that, thanks for all your imput! I guess also since sense is HTC it would also work easier if it wasn't a samsung...I just thought it would be interesting if you could have the launcher and widgets minus the bloatware apps.

I like simplicity at its best.
I can recommend buying Beautiful Widgets!
For those saying a sense port would never work on a nexus or would run buggy check out the nexus s 4g dev section.
I just switched to a gnex but I believe if they did it on the ns4g it would never be impossible to do it here

No camcorder, no Bluetooth. Read the thread, it's buggy.

Yea but works better than the port we have so far....I can live without a camcorder right now there's some who can't but I was just throwing that out there

I was wondering what would be harder to port...............Touchwiz, Sense, or Aplications Platform(Motorola)?
I'm no expert on this topic but sense would most likely be the hardest to port. As for easiest I have no idea

Yeah I'm liking how Motorola is going and I like the way touchwiz looks but people get mad when I ask about a non-stock ROM on a Google device.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'd say the Motorola I went to a Verizon store and played with the RAZR m. Widgets are nice and overall u.I. was smooth. Was ICS BTW... sense would be amazing and maybe stutter proof ( we do have a beast of a phone)

There's a guy in the dev section who has been working on the ports , still not mega stable so they all look like a pain. Give him a message am sure he has more info

NO offense but IMO, Holo is the prettiest launcher so far. Nothing can replace Holo on a GNex.
But looking at the progresses, sense seems to be the most easiest (or most worked on) so far cuz months ago i saw TW ports and Sense ports but nowadays i only see Sense ports.

not mad, annoyed. we roll with the nexus exactly because it runs vanilla android.

I like it for a little while and then it gets boring and I like change..
Or are the two platforms completely incompatible?
It's not impossible, but needs a lot of work

Same displays right? Just a different processor, I think. If so should only need a different kernel.
Sent from my A100 using xda premium
More work then its worth as we have had JB for quite awhile now. We may be able to use some updated bits but porting the whole thing is pretty close to pointless.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I wish there was and update but if not oh well im not changing my mind about getting 1 unless I find a Tablet with similar or better specs for $150
Our unofficial CM10 ROMs already run near flawlessly. Porting seems to be pointless at this time.

Hi
I've created this thread here in general to try an effort to a collaborative port of (any) sense rom to galaxy nexus, lets to the point:
I was trying a different rom instead of the stock. Why? Because a custom rom with sense provide lots of things that stock doesn't have (init.d for example). In my case, I was using Insert Coin for One X, because in the past I had some success with other devices.. well. I didn't had the same success with galaxy nexus.
Of course any rom can be used, we need success in this port disregard the rom used.
Obs.: For people unable to help and able to troll, this isn't a thread for trolling/blaming/"giving the unrequired opinion about it" or "why not buying a HTC phone instead", please, you can create your own thread for that or just use your facebook.
Thanks
I think there was already a thread about a wip port of sense and touchwiz that booted but some major stuff wasn't working.

I have one question about porting sense, what ROM is the best to use as base, cm10 or aosp?
I did some porting on my Droid 3 so I want to try on gnex also.
Thanks

Yeah but as I can see, they're focus in specific versions, and I don't care about versions since it works. And I want a specific focus in join efforts to port sense.

It's relative. AOSP will be more easily imo, but in other hand, cm10 can be adapted, since there's cm10 for tegra (so we can adapt the source code, if someone wants to give a try). I was trying with cm10 4.1.1 btw (cause the InsertCoin is 4.1.1).
My Octo-oraculus says that there are few other threads like this and NONE of them will end up with something actually usable.

My eyes says that most of other threads are about many other subjects and NONE of them are about a collaborative project.
If you can track down swamp goblin he might give some insight he got a sense Tom working on the nexus s

Btw, I was thinking about trying backport the sense for Nexus S (since there's one port that was almost successful), the only problem is... the best port for NS is Gingerbread-based and I dont know how much effort will be needed to adapt a 4.x kernel with a 2.3 rom.
Okay so I had a Dinc2 before this and my dad just got the DNA... I really miss Sense haha
To get to the point: I am nowhere near a developer but I think I could port Sense to the Gnex if I had some help. If anyone is interested in trying to do this let me know!
I will probably try to get Sense from either the DNA or the X, the X has the same screen resolution so it may be easier... either way lets see what happens! I've already tried twice and it failed. Like i said... I'm no dev
I have the vzw Gnex so i'd start with a toro build and go from there if we can get it working properly!
You have way more important things to worry about than screen resolution...
People with more experience have tried and failed. Don't waste your time, but try if you really dare. Like the other guy said, the screen resolution isn't the only problem. It's probably the least most important issue.

Yeah dudes there is a lot of stuff.. Ya really think its that bad huh? Damn that's disappointing. I think a sense ROM would be pretty boss for the community. Make all of the ones who bailed on the gnex jealous hah
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Getting it to boot would be fairly simple compared to getting everything to somewhat work...

sweet is far from an accurate depiction of it.
sense is far deeper than 'a skin'. its in the kernel, the modules, the drivers, everything....its a bloated version of android that needs to die.

"Cool" is an opinion. Its difficulty to work with (unless your device has Qualcomm silicon) is a fact.

A sense port would be fun to play around with, but it was attempted about a year ago, and ended up being abandoned. There is do much that is closed source in sense that it would be an uphill battle to get it working. It would basically take an htc sense developer to make this work... So who knows someone on the htc dev team?
