Hi, a friend gave me an HTC Desire from Belgium. It has WCDMA/GSM interface. I am in Montreal Canada and wish to use it for my UMTS network that carries a HTC Desire model here for North America. Can I change this flashing the radio o using some expert configuration or is it harware locked?
GSM-/WCDMA-Desires are using different hardware. So you canot change to the other unless you buy one.

Hi,
on my last trip home to Germany I bought the HTC Desire (Europe Version). This phone only have the UMTS frequency of 900/2100. I works fine with the EDGE but is it also possible to use the 3G Network from Tmobile US ? I read that tmobile also use the 3G freuquency of 2100. Is that right and when yes how could I use the 3G on my phone
Thanks
No it wont work t mobile use uses AWS for 3G I think so your stuck on edge I'm afraid.

Hi,
I have a HTC Desire that I bought in France with Orange. The phone is now unlocked and rooted, with a LeeDroid 1.8 rom.
I'm currently in Australia with a Telstra sim card and it seems I can't use the Next G. I have the HSDPA in few cities like Sydney, but everywhere else it's only Edge.
Does someone know if my phone is able to access the Next G ? And if yes, how to do it ?
Thanks a lot !
Antoine
Looks like you bought a Desire without 850MHz. Out of luck I'm afraid. The "Next G" you are seeing is 2100MHz which your phone supports but in rural areas Telstra uses 850MHz.

Is your Desire a A8181 or a A8183? The 83 denotes Telstra NextG 850mhz support.
If you have an 81, you will get 3G signal on every carrier except Telstra. If you have the 83, you only get 3G (NextG or 3.5G) on Telstra.
Yeah I have an A8181 so it explains why it doesn't works.
Thanks for your help guys !

Well, same problem for me !
I have a 81 and had chosen Telstra for the nextg and the cover...
The 850mhz support is software or hardware ?
Is it possible to do something on my desire to be able to use the NextG network ?
Cheers,
Quentin
No.

Your best bet is to use one of the other carriers in AUS such as Optus, Vodafone or 3.
The 850 Mhz radio is hardware based, and your phone has 900 Mhz radio.
3 doesn't support 900, I think Voda are deploying 850(but don't know how far their UMTS currently extends on 900) so the only long term alternative to a new handset would be Optus.
I bought desire hd from Canada
it was locked on telus network
i have rooted the mobile and install new rom but 3 g doesn't work
edge only work
i tried to install application to fix the 3 g
but it didn't work
please any one have solution
my network called etisalat
i' am in egypt
Either it doesn't support the CDMA 3G bands in your country or radio related. Please consult the previous seller about the mobile network band the phone has. If supported, change the mix of your kernel and radio until you get it working.
There is no solution as there is no problem with the phone.
The issue at hand is that north American phones use different frequencies for 3g than that of well frankly everyone on the eastern hemisphere(excluding Australia). Nam phones use 850/1900 while your are uses 900/2100.
There is nothing you van do to change that. You are stuck with edge unless you get a different phone

Hi, I have a HTC Desire HD A9191 purchased from Vodafone Australia.
The phone is unlocked and now I'm using a different carrier (Telstra)
However the telstra 3G operates on 850MhZ Umts. At this stage my phone supports only 900 and 2100MHZ Umts.
I'm intending to upgrade radio. Firstly I want to know whether this will resolve my problem, or I need to change the inbuilt antenna.
If so, can any one suggest a 850Mhz radio compatible for Australian networks.
Systems Specs:
Hboot-0.85.2425
Micorp-0438
Radio-26.10.04.03M
S-OFF
Tried various custom roms. (eg ,stock MIUI, CodefireX).
Changing antenna cannot change operating frequencies of the phone, the frequencies are hardware dependant and can't be changed, even by New radio firmware.
I was lead to believe that Telstra 850mhz band was the new 4g not 3g.

I am from India. I was using this mobile with Reliance CDMA. After the recent change in which Reliance has changed from CDMA to GSM, I am using the same slot for the GSM sim. The net work mode has automatically changed to Global mode.
Hope this info helps.
