I downloaded it,do i "flash" it for it to wipe, and do i still have to wipe data or does it do that by itself?
Help much appreciated

It wipes data, cache, and system for you. It tells you what its formatting as its flashing.

So i just flash it then and then i can flash rom
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
You flash it, then you must flash a ROM sometime afterwards or your phone won't boot into Android. It'll still boot into recovery, so you don't necessarily have to flash the ROM in the same session, but a ROM does need to be flashed (or a nandroid restore performed) before it will boot into Android.
After running flash all, your /system /data and /cache partitions are empty.

When I went from 4.0 to 4.1 I used the NO DATA version of his format tool and everything was AOK!

Did you still have to wipe data?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I should say if you are using Calks Format All, it will format /system /data and /cache and no need to wipe data again.
If you are using some other script then point out which one and I can take a look what it is doing.

No I did not have to wipe data to change from 4.0 to 4.1
This is the Blazer thread
If coming from a previous version of Blazer:
Don't flash using Hitman
Flash the modded format zip [Download] (It won't wipe data)
Flash Blazer ROM
Reboot, and Enjoy

I installed my first rom (MIUI) yesterday and everything went well thanks to alot of reading. I like the way it look but i miss Sense. I did a backup before I flashed it so what is the steps to recover the back up with clockwork??

Go back into recovery > backups> restore > choose the one you want. The names of the backups are based on the date you made the nandroid

Before I do that do I have to wipe anything?

I won't hurt........I always wipe cache and dalvik cache. Your phone will take a few minutes longer to reboot.....that's about the only drawback.

Not necessary, but it wouldn't hurt anything. Calkulin's Format_All.zip wipes Cache, Userdata, Dalvik, System, and a few others that I'm forgetting. If I remember correctly, it's just a script that tells your recovery to wipe all those things. Like I said before, I like to use it if I'm ever changing ROM "brands" (ie going from MIUI to CM7, or From Myn's to CM7, etc.) because the systems are usually significantly different
i believe wiping before doing anything regardless its restoring or flashing a new rom is the way to go with Calkulin's format all and his clear temp. just in case it misses something. but thats just my opinion =)
I've been trying to put mazwoz ice or aokp or any other ics rom on my wife's evo but every time I do the phone Says I have no sd card, it ran cm7 for a while with no problems, and if I go to any sense rom (like the backup of synergy i made before trying all this) the sd card is there. I'm not as familiar with the evos progress as my phone is the epic (not touch). Can anyone suggest anything for me???

I'm not flashing any additional mods, I'm using whatever kernels comes with the rom, I'm on cwm and
Installation:
Wipe cache, dalvik, and data
Install rom
Install gapps
Reboot (no SD card)
Install nandroid backup of synergy (SD card works again)

I wouldn't recommend using cwm it doesn't always wipe correctly. The most used recovery on the evo4g is amon ra recovery which I recommend. But if you decide to stay with cwm try doing factory reset through recovery twice then wipe dalvik cache twice

I usually wipe all three, 3 times each when flashing roms, but I will try out amon ra and go from there. Thx.

i updated my phone from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich. i did a nandroid backup for the gingerbread. if i decided to go back to gingerbread, i just gotta go into recovery and do a restore? or do i gotta reset wipe factory again and wipe data, cache dalvik?
I flash dark side super wipe before restoring

Before flashing anything even if it's nandroid, it is always best to wipe it clean.

And flash proper radio before restoring, if necessary
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
The recovery restore doesn't reflash my old radio and kernal? Cuz I'm not even sure what radio it had. So I pretty much need to do all the steps again like I'm flashing a new but use the the restore in place of flashing new rom.

The recovery restores everything (including kernel) but not the radio. I have switched back and forth between ics and gb a few times without ever wiping before a restore and never had a problem. I would argue its not necessary but certainly doesn't hurt.
hi guys,
alright some i'm new to this forum. i wouldnt consider myself that great at rooting and flashing etc but i'm getting the hang of it. been following qbking77 cuz he is like my god lol
anyway, i need to post at least 10 times before i can post on the thread that i wanna post on and i searched a little bit but cant seem to find what i'm looking for. and btw i have an Epic 4g.
ok, so ive noticed everyone saying i have CM10 or 9 and this and that and then they say they are on FC19 or El22 etc. I want to know how do i update/change that stuff, what my options are, and what would those benefits be?
i'm currently running CM10 build 9/14 by nightlies on stock FC09. will be going to the most recent build soon but want to maybe play with the baseband version. thanks guys.
You are correct. It is the baseband aka modem software on your phone. There is a thread in development that allows you to flash with clockwork mod and another thread that has you changing modems with Odin.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Since you're on CM10, your first stop should be this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30433583
Should give you better service/speed than any Epic modem.

Ok. I'm a noob. I'm on stock fc09. So if I go to that link what modem would that put me at? And I'm assuming flashing means all you do is go to recovery mode and install zip from sd card, correct?

That will put you on the Nexus 4G modem. Most have reported great results.
And yes, boot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, and flash away.

i think i got it now. we'll see if it works. i followed the steps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1848010
i wiped cache and then dalvik and then i rebooted recovery and flashed the modem and then the rom and its working but now it says baseband version unknown. what does that mean?

The modem package includes a modified kernel. You must flash the ROM first, or its included kernel won't recognize the Nexus modem.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
it keeps failing. i downloaded this: http://darkierawr.com/Android/Users/xboxfanj/nexusmodempatchcm10prevAIO.zip
was that the right one?
I'm pretty sure my baseband said unknown for the first hour or so before it showed the modem version
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
the only way i could get that file to install was if i did it before the CM10 rom. when i do it after it fails. so i wiped cache and dalvik again and just installed CM10 and now i still have unknown baseband version. what do i do? will i have to do a data reset?
Try mounting system and data in recovery.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
i accidently wiped date, then cache, then dalvik, mounted system and then mounted data. flashed CM10 and then tried the modem and it still failed.
nevermind! i accidently mounted sd card instead of system. wiped everything rebooted recovery, mounted system and data and installed both zips. booting up now. taking a while for the animation tho....
Hello, Guys I'm having a problem with flashing CM and AOKP roms; I've tested the latest CWM and TWRP and I always get stuck on the boot screen. I've even checked the Md5 sum to make sure it matches. Still no dice. However I can flash Touchwiz roms without no problem. Any ideals what's going on?
When your flashing are you doing a full wipe of your phone? /data, /cache, /dalvik cache, format system?
