OneX dropped screen down on concrete floor... - HTC One X

...and screen didn't even show a scratch
Happened of course by mistake, i don't recommend anyone to try it on purpose unless you have unlimited budget or are addicted to adrenalin rushes...
i ****ing froze when i felt it slip out of my hand and took an eternity to hit the concrete floor with a dull *whack*....it just layed there, the white backcover, the HTC logo laughing back at me kind of saying "idiot, pick me up, turn me over and stare at the cracked screen"
moral of the story: i'm getting a ****ing case and a screen protector

You're lucker, the guy in youtube dropped his and the screen completely shattered

LOL beginners luck. Time to get case for me now.

I might do the same, but on purpose out of frustration with this piece of pap device. Good thing im not epileptic otherwise I'd have a fit looking at the flickering screen on my one x...

dunno man, it's a nice phone and all but sometimes it behaves like a ****ing bar of soap...taking no 2nd chances, i'm looking for a cover/pouch tomorrow

I dropped mine onto a tiled floor today
Never dropped a phone before!!! I didn't want to pick it up because I thought it would be damaged. BUUUUT...........not a mark!!!! Literally not a single mark anywhere Phew

It's all to do with the way it lands but happy for you

I dropped mine the day after I bought it. It fell out of the pouch and landed screen side down. I took it back to the shop for a replacement the next day and got it replaced. It had some scuffs on the edges

Phone dropped :-0

Hey everyone
I have put in a request to get my one x replaced with phones4u due to the screen flexing issue and a creaking case. Yesterday my friend wanted to see the phone as he was thinking of getting one and he dropped it! It wasn't from much of a hight but it has left a few marks in the case...
Should this affect my replacement?

Maybe, depending on the rules of phones4u. Any pictures?
Depends how bad the scratches are and if it's really visible.

They are quite visible scuffs on 2 corners

you might have some problems because they'll try to say the problem was due to you dropping the phone =\
well i've emailed my account manager to ask now, hopefully they will still swap it for me as its not related to the original fault although i guess there's no way to prove that.
If not that my phone is insured so I'll get a new handset one way or another.
body scratches shouldnt hinder the replacement as long as screws and warranty stickers are untempered.
I think its no Problem, until something is broken. I worked for 3 Years for a HTC Repair Center and we are only look for broken displays and broken Cases. Scratches makes no Problems. Good luck Man

it was dropped from around pocket hight to the floor, its left it with scuffs in the top left and bottom left back corners.
Clearly only scuffs to the casing, no cracks or anything.

You should be fine. If they ask about the scuffs, you don't need to say you dropped it, but just that you had it in a jeans pocket with those metal rivets and you didn't realise it was rubbing against it, or something like that.
By the way is it the grey one? If so, did it go shiny where there scuffs are?

You should be fine I read somewhere they'll class it as DOA and they don't bother with DOA phones. They'll make a claim on it or something. I could be wrong though but clearly the screen issues were the reason you were sending it back as long as that is still there you'll be fine, worse that will happen is that they'll just send it back.
EDIT: Ouch, definitely need a case as I'm just like your friend prone to dropping! No replacement housing available as well for the time being so need to be extra careful.
Ohh nasty, I think it should be fine since its getting replaced for another reason, but they could refuse since the screen flicker issue is getting fixed next OTA update

Its not the flickering, its where the screen goes black and ripples when you press the edge of the phone slightly, plus the case creaks in places.
I dropped my phone yesterday when my team scored in the last minute of a cup semi final. It got trampled. Screen smashed to bits. Remarkably it still works and its still in one piece.
Screen is smashed but somehow held together and still responsive

So how resilient is the One X? Place bets... NOW

I use my phones when running to time and track them, pretty common.
Tonight, half way through my run an epic downpour of flash flood creating proportions occurred drenching me in seconds, whilst the One X was attached to me in a neoprene arm band. There was pretty much zero useful cover
I hid in a large bush to take the worst of it and powered the phone off. The rain never stopped (although it was much less absurd), so I had to finish the remaining 3-odd miles in it, trying to shield the phone from the rest of the rain.
It's now in a bag full of rice (brown, one of it's five a day) on a radiator. Fingers crossed I'm just paranoid and it will power up just fine tomorrow.
If it's perfect unit without gaps and stuff like that, i guess it will be fine .
Hmm.. horrible story, no pocket, roof... nothing to hide? .
I would leave it with the face down and keep my fingers crossed it will function again.
Good luck with it!

Yeah I had a pocket, two in fact. Which were soaking wet, like everything else though, so not much help.
I would put the phone between my but cheeks...

I think your chances are quite good mate. The unibody and speaker design make it almost water resistant.
I'm now going 4 weeks since phone was fully submerged and not one issue yet.
Good luck.

Yeah, I think you'll be fine buddy. I remember reading on here about some dude who dropped his HOX in a lake while fishing and it was absolutely fine after pulling it out.
I had the same thing happen to me though, was out running exactly the same as you and got pi$$ed down on in apocalyptic proportions. Just carried on running and the phone was absolutely fine.

Living in a rainforest myself I can say you would be fine. I pull out my phone all the time in this drenchy weather. Touchscreen won't work properly tho but the HoX will be fine.

Well the problem with one x is the micro usb and headphones that will allow water to seep through. however as you switch off your phone before its fully wet and do not switch it on again until its fully dried, the chances of getting everything to work will be very-very good.
I got soaked to the skin in our beautiful British weather way back in June, an absolute torrential downpour. I was out all day walking, weather was sunny for most of the day so it was a pair of shorts and a shirt and that was it. Walked about two miles in said downpour to train station, I couldn't have been any wetter if I'd jumped in the sea fully clothed. I shielded my hox as best I could just with my hand. Dried it with some paper towels when I got to the station and have never had a problem since, I doubt you'll have any problems.

Yeah that was my plan, getting it powered down as soon as possible should mitigate things.
When taking the phone out of the armband (foamy neoprene, so that should have kept the worst at bay) it was a bit streaky on the surface as you'd expect, but wasn't dripping, so it was towelled (carefully, didn't want to hit the power button) and bagged.
It's been in the rice bag for about 13½ hours now and will stay there 'til this evening (as I am at work now). In the meantime, it's strange not having something with notifications going off all the time, hell I haven't even bothered with a spare phone today... silence is golden
Unibody is a good thing in cases like this, the rear speaker is pretty well sealed, and I don't have any (noticeable) gaps around the screen.
my HOX has fallen on to our wooden floor on 6 or 7 occasions, apart from one tiny tiny svcratch on the screen, this phone has no other blemishes. Quality build!!!!
Crazy downpour 0:1 HTC One X
It has less to do with the phone's design and more to do that regular water just isn't a great conductor. I've pretty much soaked every phone I've had in the last 10 years and never had one fail.
Dropped mine in sink of water months ago. It freaked for a bit resetting itself drained all its battery and wouldn't stay off or charge properly but after a few hours of drying whilst rebooting it was fine. Water marks behind screen cleared after a few days.
Then it was knocked off a table from 4 foot height onto stone floor. Screen shattered. The major weakness of this phone is the protruding screen edges. Glass shatters easier from the edges.

u might laugh but as i do know when it is rainy in my city i make a point to carry a good small plastic cover for my phone the one which can be sealed at the top and it has helped me few time this month when i got stuck in heavy rains:silly::good::laugh:
Mine was knocked by a friend and my HOX fell onto the tar road... Rear battery cover was scratched, camera lens (outer) cracked, but surprisingly screen unscathed... Bought a new white casing (my old one was black) and now voila, like a brand new white HOX... Cool eh...

Oh no dropped my note 2

So today at work I dropped my 15 day old note 2 a whole 18" and what happened. ... gorilla glass FAIL!!!! The lower right corner has a small crack and there is a hairline crack thru the middle to the top. ...I bought the protection plan has anyone else had there screen crack? I had my HTC HD2 ever since it first came out and dropped it several times and never had any damages. ..The note 2 falls a short distance and boom cracked screen

I have watched drop tests showing the Note 2 falling from a 6 foot tall mans ear, and it only scuffing the sides. Just bad luck. Does the protection plan cover accidental drops?

Unfortunately a bigger screen is more prone to breaks, and gorilla glass2 is only hard; meaning its hard to scratch, but it's still glass and will not flex.

Almost as bad. I was putting together Christmas lights with the wife and kid yesterday and had my phone in my sweat pants pocket. I was sitting on the side walk and my phone slid out and fell maybe 4 inches. I now have a crack across the entire width of the phone about an inch from the bottom.
I had a Sensation before this and abused the hell out of it and it's still flawless.

I'm having doubts about on to get this phone or not, I'm on a pre-paid plan and I've been thinking on getting it before Christmas at full price, but if it breaks that easily, is just scary.
Currently I'm using a Samsung Vibrant and I drop that phone maybe like 25 times or more and have scratches all around but the screen is like new, and for the GN2 being a huge phone, putting a protecting case just gonna add up too much.

I dropped mine onto a tile floor at my workplace from pocket height and it suffered no damage. The battery door and battery flew halfway across the room, but it worked fine after putting them back in. No case on it, either.
It's just pure chance.

there are plenty of cases that do not add much bulk to the phone..technically speaking, all you really need is a raised edge on the bumper around the screen. During a fall, as long as its not your screen corners that take the hit (Let the case absorb the impact), you should be fine. If you are holding back on getting a great phone just because it breaks when you drop it, then...oh well..

Im with you. I have dropped mine a few times from different hights, onto different surfaces (tile, carpet, concrete) no damage. Worst that happened was battery cover came half off. Only thing I have on is the flip case from samsung.
Most of the falls were from sitting pocket height, but one or two on tile were from pocket height while standing.
Brace yourselves
Here is my brother's note. Dropped out of his jacked pocket while getting out of his car.
Well I got some good news and bad news...the good news is that Mobile Device Protection Association, LLC who T mobile uses for devices is going to fix my device free of charge! The Bad news I will be without my Note 2 for 5 days, it sucks that the Note 2will be gone. Hell in this day and age having no phone for 5 days is very hard.

Just noticed how hard it is to break screen on dinc 2

Just appreciating how durable this phone is. The phone's plastic rim absorbed any impact to the side, the screen can't be scratched if you drop it facedown do to the rim that you don't even notice. The back cover is so tight that you never need to worry about it poping out if it's dropped.
After 18 months I'm still loving this phone!!!

I shattered my screen just by pulling it out of my pocket and lightly bumping the back of the phone against a bathroom counter corner. It survived hela drops, but that one instance of light contact with a pointed surface did it in. All well, I just need it to last me one more month and then I'm replacing it with a new phone.

Mine seems pretty indestructable. Can't even count how many times I've dropped it. Ha. Today I was fishing and dropped it in mud and water. It filled up the USB. Hahaha didn't even flinch. Back in April after I rooted it, I was flashing something while walking on a concrete sidewalk (because I'm an idiot), and it fell out of my hands and cracked... but it still works really well!
I think that mine is magical. Sometimes in a rush I stick it into my pocket along with my keys and it gets a few scratches on the metal housing, but they quickly disappear. I'm guessing the marks are from the keys themselves getting worn instead of my the phone getting scratched

Don't remember how exactly, but water got into the phone and screen once. It dried out and revived after I dumped it into a tub of rice and left it there overnight.
Also, dropped it countless times and there are numerous scratches on the back of the phone. There are still signs of water damage on the LCD, but it's still going strong like a champ. One V ftw!
dropped it a handful of times. still working though.
