just incase anyone else experiences this...
after installing FD24 (stock for me) i let my phone sit for 20 mins with GPS on and searching using GPS Status and it didnt even find one sattelite. So i left GPS on and rebooted. after reboot i got a lock within 5 seconds
Yeah not going to ICS until GPS is fully polished. Put ICS on two previous E4GT's and it borked out after a week. On EL29 and locks every time. So until this issue is resolved, no ICS for me

The GPS is as polished as she's going to get with these ICS modems, fellas. Mine has never worked before these ICS builds and it works like a charm now.
Mine has worked great on the ICS builds. At least the last few
yea i figured i'd make mention of this only bcuz i have read others who had problems on ics and methods of fixing was flash back to el29 and get a lock then reflash ics. but what just a reboot with it on, worked for me.
on me it work fine but issues with speeds on 3g so I went back to gingerbread

My gps never worked for crap, until I updated the modem to FC18 (and beyond), now I get an a-gps lock in half a second, and a true gps lock in 2. ICS gps works great.

GPS on last few ICS builds are pretty solid, it locks within 30 - 45 seconds that's not bad

Could someone please check Sprint Nav diagnostics to see how many satellites it finds. Both my phones only show one since EB13 and it loses GPS signal constantly. Worked fine on DK28. Google Nav works fine. GPSstatus shows 9 locked satellites. If you get more than 1 satellite what ROM and upgrade method did you use?
Thanks.

I have always only showed 1 in sprint nav I dont know if thats a true stat. I always got one on my Moment too but the sprint nav has always worked fine on both phones

Finally...thanks I thought I was the only one on this board using it! After EB13 install I lose GPS signal in town easily. Would maybe use lock once on a 50 mile trip with DK28.

Thanks MH. So the satellite count is not the issue...it doesn't like EB13 or Bonsai. I lose GPS fix easily now but did not on DK28.
Gps on this phone better than previous sammy phones? My photon locks in 1-2 seconds everytime. Im thinking of making the jump but need gps to work

Inside I was having an acceptable-but-not-great experience...outside, however, was the nuts. Perfect lock instantaneously.
i've never had an issue of locking my location inside a buidling until i got this phone
Mine works well. Locks on ina couple of seconds. I'm in Springfield MA right now and all the streets are jacked so it's really nice to have a good working google navigation!

Works perfectly. Takes a few seconds longer than og Evo to lock, but no big deal.
Well I guess ill test it out at the store if possible
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Locks faster than my original epic, but thats not saying much.
Just tested outside, locked into 8 sats in 3 seconds. Sent from epic touch.
The real test is to do in the parking garage I was just by where the parking garage ends and I could not lock onto a gps signal for the life of me
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
I tested both the photon and epic touch in two different stores; none of the could lock on gps (they lock fine on wifi; which is 'cheating' )
-
I tried a bionic in the verizon store next door and it locked fine.
My first lock took a long time. Now no problems locking at all.

Mine took forever for the first lock and I was on the highway very annoying, after that it locked on a lot zippier. However, not as fast as my previous phone the Evo 4g.
I was pleasantly surprised when it locked in my basement Man Cave immediately. This phone is actually impressing me. Looks like the Photon will be going back to the store.

I made the switch from the Evo 3D to the Epic touch and I noticed that the GPS doesn't work as well as it did the Evo.
I was wondering if there was anything that can be done to make the signal a little better.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
coming from the epic this thing works amazingly well
but i get a signal within 5 seconds and a 10 meter range
the gps on this thing works even better than on the photon in my experience

I dunno...I fired up Google Earth on my lunch break sitting in my truck at work. I tapped "my location" and it flew in and was only off by 1 parking spot. I'd say that's pretty accurate.
So far as the radio strength I'd have to agree...usually it works fine for me, but some times I can't get a signal with it on my center console but if I put it in the door-handle pocket it works fine. I think that might be software tweakable...
You can try gps aid from the market. I used it on my epic and it helped but this phone works a lot better than my epic.

Using GPS Status mine often shows an accuracy of 6 feet. I didn't even know cell phones were supposed to be capable of that resolution. I'm very impressed here.

If your phone hasn't been rebooted in a while gps wont work very well. Reboot phone and it will lock fast.

All my other phones put me withing a few feet of my location, nor more than a few yards off in most situations. This has constantly had me at least a half of a mile off. I has me in an adjacent neighborhood at home and a half mile out in the river at work. i have tried all the settings. I am leaving work early today and going to Sprint for a possible exchange to another Touch. I already anticipate the run around but if they cant get me at least in the sprint parking lot, I am demanding a new phone. Its to the point where I cant use my GPS because it is totally inaccurate.

How long does it take you guys to get a GPS lock... Sometimes it take 5 minutes...
For me, I have never seen longer then 30 seconds. Usually less then 10 seconds.
I was goofing around with QPST the other day and noticed that there are Unpopulayed GPSone settings. Does this phone support GPSone? I populated the entries with data from my old phone. I don't think it made a difference, I just did it in the name of experimentation. What's the worse that could happen, I just have to reload my saved NV settings.
GPS used to be awesome...doesn't ever lock at all anymore. Reboot doesn't matter, GLSCLRX didn't help, re-stocked it, everything. no help.

I agree GPS has been great. Thanks to the qualcomm s3 it works great. Not so great for some of the exynos chips on other galaxy s phones. Look at epic touch 4g and you will see they are not getting such great results. Something with the chip and sprints radio's must be conflicting. The galaxy s II from at&t seems to be working well too.
Yes, I must agree. This GPS locks very fast and it is pretty darn accurate. I am loving this phone so far.

There's nothing wrong with the GPS. aGPS stops working and there are no satellites downloaded, and there is no fix.
GPS Fix actually seems to have worked because now it's reliably getting a fix.

You really shouldn't need gpsfix. I have it out of force of habit. If you're losing the ability to lock, there definitely seems to be a problem with it. I'd take it back and ask for an exchange, just to be on the safe side.

Used the gps today on a two hour trip with tons of turns through the city and it held strong and didn't lose me once. Works really good which surprised me because one thing about older Samsungs phones is the gps would always flake out.
I am currently using the GPS in DC and its amazing. Usually my other Android phones would re-calculate
in the City, not my GS2!!! I'm in love.

Anyone having trouble getting GPS lock using the Telus SGS2X? I'm in downtown Toronto and I can't get a lock for the life of me, it just bounces around my neighborhood.
Used it in Seattle the other day, only time I lost GPS was when I was 4 floors underground in a parking garage. Saved me a lot of time. GPS has been horrible on all Samsung phones I've had until this one.
Now we just need a good offline GPS app.
I have problems if I'm on WiFi and try to get a lock off of WiFi. I have to restart the phone. Happened to a replacement too so don't tell me it's the phone. The GPS hardware obviously is excellent, just this bug that has existed on all of my T-Mobile phones (GPS won't lock on WiFi, probably due to aGPS authentication) is carrying over when I'm off of WiFi.
Does it still have the crappy signal/gps issues? I had it earlier this year and it was frustrating, so just want to see how things have been since then with all the updates and such....
gps sucks. it takes a long time to connect. and i have this issue where the phone fails to connect to 3g when 4g disconnects. super annoying.
get the sgs3 or evo 4g lte.

You guys are all saying its works fine and like a million other people are complaining when I googled it lol. I'm just bored with my iphone 4 and my sister took my evo 3d, So I need something to get my android fix with lol.... no upgrade til december.
Having played with a galaxy s3 in the mall, I'd say go with that. Read that section in the forum to see what issues there are. After going from a 4s to the e4gt, I miss the 4s camera and the better quality sounding audio output. I've had this one for nine months now and the screen burn in is getting on my nerves. Going to pen tile displays was samsung's choice for screen lasting longer and less apt to burning. I didn't notice a screen door effect on the s3 either. Even though the cameras are virtually the same, I can see how having a faster focus helps in certain situations with the s3. Its low light is noisy though like lots have mentioned.

Its the way things goes on in consumer world. More noise is created by people who's stuff is not working. I work for verizon fios and we only hear 5 to 10% customers call in to complain but some might come to wrong conclusion that fios always breaks. Thats how it is. I have had no issues with my e4gt. Love everything about it.
