Cant open /cache /recovery /command - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my DHD, using the ace hack kit. but my CWM wont let me install aything and has the cant find cache recovery command error at the bottom. Ive searched the forum but everywhere it says i need to do S-OFF then re install CWM. i was going to try this visionary tool but it says it cant be used with devices shipped with gingerbread?

Try formatting the sdcard. If the cwm file was corrupted it wouldnt have flashed...anyway, you can try flashing 4ext recovery to see if that
Works...

Ok, i bought a new card today. did a FAT32 format then reinstalled CWM. still the same problem. Any other ideas?
UPDATE: Started the whole process again fromt he beginning with the new card and everything worked fine. Thanks for your help.

BUMP: I'm having the same problem, used gparted to repartition sdcard which allowed me to Mount USB storage. When i try to mount /sdcard card i receive

Are you using setcpu? I had same message the other day when in clockwork. I had an idea to try to set speed back to stock and unchecked set on boot, rebooted in to clockwork and all was well. Not sure if the clockspeed and and set on boot has anything to do with it, but I had a feeling that it messed with backup/restore when writing/reading a custom speed specified to boot with. Anyway it worked for me on virtuous with 7.28 radio and kings bfs 5
Had the same issue... Formatted the SD card (using the phone, under settings/sd card) and it never happened again.

to follow this up, i was experiancing similar problems
like an idiot i ejected the SD card with the power on (bad idea) and had to format it
the card worked fine under my rom (miui) but when i booted into clockwork mod v4.something
i unmounted the SD card in the phone options and formatted it, after re mounting it the phone gave me a notification that the SD card was an unsupported format
so what i did was click that notification and format the card again
i booted into recovery and it worked, i hope this helps someone in the future

Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk error
I received a replacement Dinc from Verizon under the extended warranty. My problem is that the new phone won't backup or restore under CWM. I get a notice that "E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkp1p (or mmcblk)
My old phone was rooted with the 2.3.4 version 4.06 GB stock rooted ROM. I made a nandroid backup with CWM recovery 5.0.0.6. So far all is good. The replacement phone with amoled screen came with GB 2.3.4. (unrooted and s-on.) Following the directions in Droid Forums I downgraded to 2.2, rooted using unrevoked3, turned s-off with unrevoked forever and reinstalled 2.3.4 version 4.06. All files found from links of XDA. (THANKS to all for the great instructions and files.)
But now on the new phone the nandroid backup and recovery from CWM won't work as I get the above error. II read that the sd card needs to be reformatted but when I put it back in the old phone, CWM works well without the error. Any suggestions?

I would first try to format your sdcard fat32, but dont put any of the old files back on yet. Then with the blank sdcard inserted try to run a backup and see if it works. If not try reflashing cwm thru hboot. Also make sure you have superuser and busybox installed. mmcbkk0p1 is the data partition, see if you can manually mount it thru recovery in the mounts and storage menu.

Its mmcblk1p1 he said. That isn't the data partition . I think it is sdcard. I think an sdcard format will do the trick.

Unable to flash new/seemingly any rom - Any help?

So a while back I rooted my desire, and played about with a few roms, then stuck with cyanogen for quite a while. This is the order of a few actions I took which I think may be where the problem occurred.
So from being rooted with cyanogen 7:
I decided to s-off the phone with alpharev
I then put a new splash screen on
Then decided I wanted a new sd card (I was told by a mate it will just go straight in no problems) So I bought an 8gb card stuck it in put my backed up data on the card and booted, all was fine.
I then thought about trying a few new roms that had appeared, and I tried flashing one only for the phone to hang forever on the splash screen.
I've been trying a few things to try to resolve it, stabbing in the dark, such as running unrevoked3 (maybe to root again, only for it to say the firmware is too new) I made my new sd card a gold card, like I did with the original.
None of these helped. has anyone any ideas or know how to sort this out???
What recovery do you have? Which ROM did hang?
Did you do a full wipe?
Does the rom you want to instal require a ext partition?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
I wiped the cache, and dalvik cache, even did a factory reset in recovery. Im using clockwork recovery.
I tried InsertCoin_GB_Sense2.1_CM7_v20 and Reflex_S_2.0_LITE_GingerBread_Sense-2.1_GRI40_A2SD+
Maybe these need an ext partition? Would that be it? I'm not sure how to set that up yet.
yes those roms need ext partition, don't know about reflex bu have insertcoin myself, 1GB ext4.
1.go to recovery
2.press on partition sd,choose the size, then after it's finished convert it to ext3 in partition sd again below the option of making one, you can make ext4, but thats up to you. ext3 is needed..
Don't forget to backup your sd, you'll lose everything on it
The ROM you mentioned is an a2sd ROM. So yes, you'll need to partition your SD card if you want to use a a2sd rom.

Thanks for this I will get on it and let you know
I can't find an option in my clockwork to partition the sd. Just been searching a bit and seen it can be done through rom manager, that rebooted the phone and left me with the ! in a triangle and the small droid on the screen and when I press the power button it is in recovery it says installation aborted. Is there a guide for the Desire? I can't seem to find one....
Sorry found a guide on here. Will try to do it now.
Ok so I am really struggling to get anywhere with a few different guides to partition the card. Through rom manager it also says signature failed, although I have tried toggling the permissions. Major

Steveoh like i told, do it from recovery(easiest), when you rooted you were able to change the recovery(unrEVOked), do so and change it to Ra recovery
Still if you don't want to this program can help youhttp://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Download this and do it from you pc, although it's very easy to do from recovery, takes 5,6 minutes mostly waiting..
I have created a partition with the program you recommenced. How will I know that it is ext 3? And that my phone will use it?
found it!

[Q] CWM not mounting SDcard (any SDcard)

OK. So I need some serious help.
I have thrashed the web and found similar issues but the fixes there do not work for me.
Today I followed the instructions on the t-mod site (t-mod.org) to install T-Mod LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3 Port R5 A2SD (Australian version of Leedroid). I had to apply the Telstra froyo RUU first to update my Hboot. The root process and s-off seemed to go fine. I installed the radio Radio_32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08 and then T-mod.
On the first boot it went past the s-off ‘Why so serious’ screen and I thought I had it made but then the keep looping through the same boot animation screen. The last line reads “Detecting phone storage…”
I went back to recovery and found the CWM could not mount my sdcard.
CWM-AlphaRev Recovery v2.5.1.8
E:Can’t mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(no such file or directory)
Error mounting SDCARD:!
Since then I have tried a number of things.
- Tried to format card from CWM. Failed
- Tried to format card in Windows 7, which worked. But did not help.
- Tried a different sdcard. No difference.
- Tried to reapply the Telstra RUU. Successfully detected the device but would not complete.
- Hit the panic button.
Other people have reported similar issues with CWM not mounting the sdcard but this is generally fixed by either formatting the card or using a different card. The card in the phone was a brand new Lexar 16GB class 6 and then I tried the original 2GB Sandisk.
Please help.
See my replies here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176663
Wow. I look at that but not well enough. I thought it was for only when your pc would not detect your phone but it is so much more. thanks
It really is much easier than it looks. Just get Android Flasher from the link I provided in the other thread and run that command and that should re-enable your SD card on your phone.
This happened to my Desire once and I was stuck for hours, in the end found this to fix it, just plug your phone up via Fastboot and give this a go:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
Same thing happened to me just now. Fastboot says OKAY but still sd cant be mounted. Is there any other way? I used ADB, I'll also try Android Flasher.
EDIT : I formatted SD via CWM now it works
EDIT2 :Formerly I formatted with gparted in Linux, still wondering why it went wrong
please delete me
Hey Guys, i have the same problem. But i dont know what i should do with the Android Flasher ... Just go to /data an execute the files?? I have the Galaxy S2!
When i click on external_sd/ it says No files found. And how can you re flash the ROM, without having the sd card working. (because all the people say after re flashing it worked again:/)

[Q] Impossible to mount SD-Card

Hello,
I've tried messing up a bit with my HTC Desire, too much apparently...
Right now, I'm running Revolutionary recovery, and a custom rom that refuses to load and stuck in reboot loop. I tried reflashing another rom and even going back to stock, but in the recovery screen each time I try mounting any kind of sd-card I get "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)"...
I tried using AndroidFlasher, but the program crashes...
Any ideas? someone?
Thanks!
I had the same problem, I needed to install another recovery then it worked
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
I flashed new recovery, ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.0, and now when I click "mount USB storage" it actually works, but the sdcard still refuses to be mounted so all I get in the PC is nothing.
Am I getting close to the solution?...
Try AmonRA 2.0.1.
Also, can your read your card via other devices/card reader?
Possible USB brick, if the above mentioned 2 things won't work - fix in Devellopement section.
Search for desire usb brick fix. That should sort it out.
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Atari 2600 software!
Ok, problem solved, here's what I did:
1. Flash a new recovery, Amon Ra 2.0.0 to be exact.
2. Since the sdcard seemed to be bricked I flashed CyanogenMod 7 using the AndroidSDK (just search Google for "flashing rom without sd card").
3. CyanogenMod 7 actually worked, so I booted it up, formatted my sdacrd, and now it's working flawlessly.
Thank you guys for helping
Try the SD in another device like a card reader as said above....Could be a problem with it, I had the same issue until I fixed the errors on Windows.
Please stop writing your posts in bold, just a little advice.

Need help formatting SD card

Hi guys,
I've just formatted my 2gb SD card for my HTC desire using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition. I've made 450mb as FAT (primary) and the rest as ext4 (logical). For some reason, my rom (MIUI_Au-Desire-1.10.8) doesn't think there's an SD card in the phone. I've tried taking the card in and out, same thing.
I've since re-formatted it to Fat32 and ext4 with the same thing. It isn't showing up.
When I go into recovery and mount the USB there no USB storage comes up on my PC. When I try to select 'mount SD card' I get an error saying
Error mounting SDCARD:!
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
(invalid argument)
I've got clockworkMOD Recovery v2.5.0.7 and I've tried putting ext4recoveryupdater but when I've tried installing it through Androidflasher.exe it says I need an ENG Bootloader.
I'm completely stuck and don't know what to do. I started all this because I wanted to install Runny ROM v5.1 and Runnymede_AIO_V6.0.4.3_Special_Edition, but once I ran the aroma installer, it basically frooze at the boot logo. So I figured I needed a larger ext4 partition.
So yea, any help on this would be GREAT. I'm starring at this post for replies on where to start from scratch.
Thanks for reading,
Raddest
edit: oh yea, so the only way I can 'see' the SD card is when I select 'mount USB' from the recovery.
Are you s-off?
Have you followed the guides on here to get s-off?
Just when you say you got CWM is it installed or you've got the .img for androidflasher? As aroma wont work with a non touch based recovery.
4extrecoveryupdater should be a apk and cannot be flashed by androidflasher, its meant to be installed on a rooted s-off phone.
I recommend reading the guides again and getting s-off, then installing 4ext recovery updater to get the 4ext touch based recovery; and using that recovery to partition your SD card
Edit: sorry if you've got CWM installed then all you need to do is get a 4ext touch based recovery .img and flash it with android flasher. I remember that they're a bit harder to find on the website.
The error message is probably from you trying to flash a .apk instead of a .img file
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Yep, I'm currently working on getting S-Off as my phone's S-On.
I've used the ext4 apk, but when it downloads and tries to flash the recovery from my rom it doesn't work. No matter what. So when it doesn't work it stores 2012-03-15-22.03_recovery.img onto my SD card (when the SD card worked).
So now I think I should concentrate on getting s-off. If I get s-off. But how will I install ext4 from my rom if I can't load my SD card?
edit: formatted the whole card to primary fat32. So if I get s-off and run ext4recovery will it flash the recovery fine?
edit 2 (just read your edit) I've already used androidflasher to try and put that 4ext img as the recovery, it says I need an ENG bootloader (or HBOT I can't remember).
No, you also need to be rooted to install a recovery from the app.
So either get root, or push the .img file from androidflasher once it fails from the app. And is on the sd card transfer it to your pc.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Yep, I've already installed the .img from ext4, android flasher says I need an ENG bootloader.
Yeah just get s-off and you should be fine.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Cool thanks. I'm just looking to see if there's a simple way to get S-off.
Using revolutionary.io
http://revolutionary.io/
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Yep, trying it. Says it's incompatible with this version of HTC Sync
If all works remember to backup your current rom with 4ext before flashing
Best of luck

I'm gonna un-install HTC Sync from my computer, restart, and see how it goes.
edit: just exited and un-installed (haven't restarted) and getting this;

Ok, basically burnt Alpharev to a CD, booted from the CD and used that. I got S-off fine, no problems at all. After that, booted back into miui and flashed the recovery using ext4. From ext4 I partitioned my SD card to have 800mb FAT32 and the rest ext4. Installing Runny AIO. See how I go...
All good, with alpharev to thank mainly. Was really made easy.
