Spigen GLASt Screen Protector - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Accessories

I just got this very expensive piece of glass for the Galaxy Note to find that there's no cutout for the home key. It just covers it over. I'm very disappointed with it.
Amateur videos on YouTube I've watched show clearly there's a cutout for the Home button so maybe I just got a faulty one. Have emailed the supplier to ask them about it. Just very disappointed with such an expensive product.
Trevor

You got the one for the att Note I717

Yes, you're right. I'm a dumbass for not knowing. I knew about the AT&T version of the Note but just thought this meant a different radio circuit not that the external hardware was different. No excuses for not seeing this.

I'm sorry, but lol! You installed it knowing it didn't have the cut out?

Dust under the screen

Hey guys. I know I'm not the only one. I was examining the screen tonight with an external LED and I spotted two specs of dust in the mid-left of the screen, about 10mm apart. They're so large that the LED makes the specs cast a shadow on the screen itself. When the screen is on, they're hard to miss. I bought it from Negri Electronics, and I've read that they don't consider this a defect. So I don't know if I should contact Samsung or not... the specs are bearable, and thinking about swapping, who knows if I'll get another device that's worse than the one I currently own. Other than that? This phone is epic and there is no way to describe how awesome it is... that's my only thing with this that bugs me. My 4S didn't have dust. And for $764 I expected a tad bit better quality.
I'd appreciate any and all feedback. I'll upload some pics upon request.

I also have one spec. Can only notice it on white or very light colors. I'm just trying to forget about it because I don't want to deal with the hassle of swapping. Not worth it for one spec IMO
Yeah I agree. I can only see it when the screen is a light color or is white. It just sucks, but not worth the hassle. That's for sure. I wish there was something like apple where I could look at the replacement. But its cool.

I just tried to accept the fact that no device is perfect. That and it would really suck if I swapped it and got one with even more dust!
Maybe it'll disintegrate one day. Ha. Who knows. Whatever, its just dust.

I got a speck of dust also, what a premium quality.
This phone should cost $400 for the build quality.

[Q] Thoughts on the Samsung S III C Pen

Hey guys,
In excitement to receive the new S III on Verizon, I have set to search for cases, screen covers, etc. However, I happened to come across the Samsung S III C Pen in another post and was wondering what your thought were on it. Has anyone try it yet?
I'm an Animation Student in Digital Arts, and would like to use the C Pen for quick sketching on the S III.
The Samsung's link is here:

Forgive me in advance if this topic was meant to be posted in the Q&A section instead of here,

While I can't speak to the C Pen itself, my understanding is that it is just a capacitive stylus, unlike the S Pen for the note. That being the case, you will probably end up with a similar experience to other capacitive screen styli. Their quality can vary greatly but they are all just trying to replace your finger.

I don't think this is true. I saw a video (can't remember where now) that showed this C Pen in use and although it wasn't like the Note's S Pen, it wasn't like a normal stylus either. It is supposed to only work on the GS3 from what I understand and the person in the video used it on an iPhone to prove it. I ordered one yesterday. I will update this post once I get it and let you all know what I think of it.
I also have the Galaxy Note phone so I will be able to compare the 2.
i have watched one video, the only thing interested me...was that the stylus works only on S3, but no respond on iPhone.
Just wonder if it was true or not. and whats the point for that....:good::good:
I bought one last week and ended up sending it back. It looks and feels fantastic, but it didn't work that great with my screen protector installed (Zagg InvisibleShield) The surface was too "tacky" for any real precise usage. I mainly bought it for Draw Something and stuff like that. Now if you don't have a screen protector it should work perfect. Also I was under the impression that you could use it on tablets as well, going off the Amazon description that says: "Replacement for using fingers on your tablet or smartphone touchscreen" Sadly that isn't the case. I tried it on my Acer Iconia a500 tablet and my wife's Galaxy Nexus and it didn't do a thing. That's mainly my fault though for not doing research on it before hand and just going off of the Amazon description. So all that being said, if you don't have a screen protector installed or have something other than a Zagg InvisibleSHIELD, you shouldn't have an issue with it.

If it is the same as the Zagg where the screen protector is tacky, then it will probably have the same results. It would probably work better if there isn't a screen protector on there or a crystal clear one. I have a regular capacitive stylus and using it on my Transformer, you can feel a little resistance with a "tacky" protector.

The SGSIII uses a capacitive stylus. I tried my GNote stylus on the SGSIII and it does not work. The GNote can take a WACOM (Stock) stylus and a capacitive stylus and work I believe.
I do like using S Memo from my GNote to jot notes so I ordered the OEM Stylus for my SGSIII as well.

Yea I know. I also have the GNote but I also have the Wacom Intuos 5 tablet and my GNote stylus does not work on it and the Wacom stylus does not work on my GNote either. I also ordered the OEM Stylus for my SGS3. Should be here early next week. :good:
And for the OP. Your first mistake was putting a Zagg shield on your phone. I used to use them on all my phones pretty much when they were the only option but Zagg shields suck. They're tacky like you said and they discolor, turn an ugly brownish color and the corners eventually peel (quicker than most other screen protectors I've used). There are plenty of better options out there now. I, personally, choose to keep my phones naked now. :cyclops:
Noob question:
does it take batteries somehow? I would imagine the pen simulates our fingers' electroblahblah pulses somehow... right?

A wacom pen works with magnets. You can actually write though something as thick as cardboard and it will still work.

any update? how do you like it?
I got the C pen today. If you are thinking it will be close in operation to a WACOM pen or the Galaxy Note, it is not. Not even close.
The C pen is well made but the rubber tip skips along and is not smooth. I have not quite figured out the best angle for writing (I am left handed). The C pen does work for flipping screens and apps etc.
I will keep it and play with it some more, but it is really more of show off feature that is not nearly as useful as it is on the GNote. I wanted to try it because I do actually take and keep notes on my GNote. I will update if I discover anything new.
The S pen is absolutely not worth it. It doesn't work on any other devices besides the SGSIII
And it really doesn't work any better that other styli on the SGSIII. The only thing it has going for it is that it looks beautiful.

S III Durability

Hi folks
I'm considering getting the S III but am not sure about the screen durability as i've heard a lot of mixed reviews. How durable is it? Looking at some break tests on youtube suggests that the screen is a lot more sensitive as compared to other phone. Is that true?
btw, what is a good case for this device ?
Thanks!

I dunno if this counts, but I keep dropping mine and the only damage so far is a little scratching on the corner of the outer plastic bezel when I dropped it once pretty hard on some rough tar. I haven't seen any other blemishes on the case, and so far no scratching at all on the glass. I loved my Nexus One, but the glass on that scratched pretty easy just sitting in my pocket. Not so with the SIII, no scratches at all on the glass in the 3 mo I've had the phone.
I don't have a case for it.
Bigger the screen... The easier its going to break. Simple.

The gorilla glass on this phone is garbage. ive never dropped a phone and a couple of weeks ago i slid it into my pocket and my pocket was broken. It fell like 2 inches from the ground on to pavement and wrecked the display and the bezel is all dinged up. gonna fix the display and get rid of it

Similar experience...phone dropped from my pocket while sitting, landed on the corner, cracked screen...probably hit the weak spot on the phone, regardless, shouldn't break that easily IMO..
It is not durable at all compared to my previous phones (gs2, hd2) if you drop it there will be serious cosmetic damage. The plastic is extremely soft.

Get an Otter Box, you pay that much for a phone then spend an extra 50 bucks to keep it safe.
Get a case if your gonna pick up the GS3... its a beautiful phone but you need to make sure you can protect it... I dropped my phone 4 times since I got it and thank God I bought a case for it. If I didn't have one, then my screen would have been shattered already

yea that's why i'm hesitant in buying it (3 actually). The issue seems widespread and if it is a case of bigger screen then it is a serious design flaw or maybe a manufacturing flaw. At this point im probably going to put off buying this phone but let's see if things change

I just bought the generic case from T-Mobile store... its grey. I mean its okay. It gets the job done but I'm looking to get the seidio case with kickstand. I feel like the S II was way more durable. But that's why I bought insurance for this phone. Never had insurance on any other device. And the fact that I have an extended battery and there really aren't any good cases for extended batteries made me get the insurance.

It's a phone and it uses glass, it doesn't matter what phone it is if your looking at Youtube and their hitting it with a hammer or dragging a razor over the screen then it's gonna do as expected. It's almost comical that people do these tests considering you spend money on the phone you should be responsible for it and take care of it. Accidents happen and the carriers know this so instead take care of your property, it doesn't matter who made it or what some moron with a hammer says.
all that is fine but generally speaking one does expect some level of durability for a device that costs upwards of $700 dollars, specially if the company is touting the latest and greatest gorilla glass 2 as one of the main features of the phone. Cellphones break when dropped, everyone should know that. But the amount of complaints i've come across regarding the S III and the different ways the screen is getting damaged is quite abnormal to say the least.
Anyway, i'm still debating whether i should pass on this phone or go for it. Anything new coming up in the coming weeks?

You never hear the whole story either when people give these reviews, "I had it in my pocket and the screen cracked" turns into I was drunk and fell down the stairs.
I still have all of my devices in perfect shape and it all comes down to how well someone takes care of their things. If your gonna carry the phone in your pocket with your car keys then its gonna happen, I see it all the time and like you said at $700.00 you should act like it's worth it. You want an honest opinion on the device? It's worth every penny but the one thing that would make me warm and fuzzy about it is if HTC built the body. It still feels solid but theres nothing like a well built frame like you would find on the One S or X. No other device comes close to the functionality and multitasking that this one does and I own 8 myself (different devices not all cells.)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
yup the One X is really nice too. Too bad t-mobile doesn't carry it.
I'm going to call t-mobile again and see if i could get a better deal on the S iii's than what they offered me ($179 per phone)

Magnetic Book Cover EFC-1G2NGEGSTA vs EFC-1G2NGECXAR

I'm having a hard time understanding the differences between these 2 Samsung covers.
What is the EFC-1G2NGEGSTA material? Is it the same as the non-magnetic book cover EFC-1G2NGECXAR? I've seen the EFC-1G2NGECXAR at Best Buy and wasn't really that impressed. It seemed kind of like cheap vinyl/plastic. Is the only difference between these the magnet?
I would like to know as well about this. Why does Samsung have different prices for what it seems to be the same cover?
So I see Samsung now has these in a many new colors. Wow. Well I used my 50% off coupon and bought the official gray cover from their store. Total was about $35 with tax and shipping.

I just got a nonmagnetic one and its really good. Wish It had magnets though because the screen cover is loose.

Has anyone figured out what the exact difference is? I just purchased the magnetic one and saw some youtube reviews of the original. SAME THING! Magnets in the the same place. Same coverage. I just got off the phone with samsung and they couldn't tell me the difference. They say the magnetic one has more magnets. I don't think so. Also they say the materials are different. I'm not sure about that. Samsung guy also told me that they don't make the book cover anymore and this is the new one. Which is why they charge $10 more. In my opinion, they just relabeled the same product and made it more expensive. Can anyone confirm there is a difference?
So I stopped by a local best buy and compared my "magnetic" book cover and realized there is absolutely no difference. Size, weight, material, magnetic placement were all the same.
@dtziheucdavis if you're thinking that the magenetic one keeps the front flap closed it does not. (At least the one I have)
So now I'm wondering if samsung sent me the wrong one if there is a difference.
Any thoughts? As mentioned I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with samsung and after 3 reps later, all they could tell me was that there are more magnets and the material is better (not true through direct comparison). If there are more magnets its non functional.
Well, I just used the 50% off promotion and ordered the red one. I already had the gray 49.99 model, so i will be able to do a comparison as soon as it arrives. Also, I was able to use the coupon to order the s pen holder. It has good reviews on Amazon.
I just would like the option of the screen going off automatically when the cost is closed m or the s pen is re-inserted into its holder on the tab.

I received my EFC-1G2NGEGSTA today. It appears to be the same as the non-magnet one I saw at BB, with the exception of the magnets. Seems OK. I may keep it, despite growing to really like the i-BLASON I got from Amazon.
We shall see if the non-latching (or non-magnet clinging) cover is an issue. I kind of liked the latch on the i-BLASON and the extra padding the case provided.
Took one week to arrive from order placed to received.
EDIT: Really digging the fit and slim profile! I hope it doesn't suck up the scratches.

So the "front" cover has 3 sections (seperated by 2 creases)....a 1 inch or so section near the "hinge", a 4 inch or so section in the middle, and a 1/2 inch or so section. It seems that the only parts that stick are the 1/2 inch section when it is aligned in the middle of the cover back.
Hard to describe without picture, but does that make sense?

That is exactly how my "Magnetic" one is. And from what dtziheucdavis says his non-magnetic one is the exact same. I think Samsung just rebranded and is now charging $10 more for the same thing. Not cool!
I might be a little off topic but I found this case on ebay.co.uk:

It really looks like the official ones that you are talking about, and it only costs £11!
Do you think that there is any trick here? I'm surprised by such a low price and it makes me suspicious, but more than 300 people already bought it and the seller is an ebay top-rated one...
I also had a few questions for the owners of an official case: does the 2 positions (for typing and viewing) hold well? Will the tablet fall if I type a bit strongly on the screen? And also, I don't use the camera that much but it can happen so isn't it too annoying that the camera is covered when you open the case?
Thanks guys!

I'm looking to purchase the combo so I don't have to separate the glass from the digitizer and introduce any dust under the screen...I've watched the videos but would like to hear from anyone who has done it . Are there any tips I need or certain things to look for? It seems pretty easy but these guys have probably done it a few times..Does the housing go back together pretty solid?
Thanks.

Quotes from my roommate and things I know on the subject: Should you try to replace the digitizer only (from experience working with the SIII and other AMOLED devices.) Your biggest problem isn't going to be dust, but accidentally damaging the AMOLED. If you have worked with AMOLEDs before or know anything about them, they are extremely thin and therefore quite fragile. My advice is to just replace the assembly. There is a film that goes on the back of the AMOLED. Roommate says he doesn't know what the film does, he thinks it may have something to do with the stylus. It does have a header that attaches to the main board, so be careful. Just know, unless you are in a clean room (and I'm talking professional setting, like you would see in manufacturing) you are going to end up with dust if you decide to replace only the digitizer. Good luck.
I have complete white screens for $190 shipped.
Much easier than just replacing the digi.

i bought the full front assembly w/another spen on ebay for $150 so all i have to do is swap out the front and not have to pry the glass apart from the lcd..It cost more but well worth the piece of mind knowing that all i have to swap is the board and camera..I watched videos of digitizer swaps and i'm not about to even attempt that..

Good luck! As you've said you've already watched guides so you should know what you are doing, just take your time and keep track of what goes where and you should do alright ^_^

Do the SPRINT digitizers work for VERIZON (N7100) ? If so, I may be interested in purchasing.
I know the stock phones have a Wacom digitizer/ screen made especially for the s-pen. Will these replacement screens work just as good as stock? The whole point of the Note 2 as opposed to other touch screen phones is to have that flawless stylus experience.

Any screen i sell is always a genuine part. They are mostly harvested from donor phones that have had other issues besides screen problems ie charging port problems or bricked devices.
