I'm getting more and more disappointed with Samsung and the 4.0.4 release for yakjuxw. There's soon 1 months since the update was released, and still no update for my phone.
Is there any actual difference between yakju phones and yakjuxw?
If not, why the hell do they wait with releasing the update?
I've tried contacting Samsung in different ways, but they're just answering that they have no idea when the update will be released.
I bought this phone to always have the newest update. Samsung is really messing this up. I don't want to change the phone to yakju, because I don't want to do a clean install at this time.
There was a problem with the 4.0.4 update so they stopped rolling it out to new phones... it should be fixed now as they started sending out another minor ota update to those on 4.0.4.
You shouldn't have to wait much longer.

Can't you just favor over the yakju image so you don't have to wait on Sammy for their slow updates? Not 100% sure, though, because my nexus started it's life as a yakju.

you can flash the updates yourself, there are a lot of guides in the forum and it's very easy (and quicker than waiting for samsung to do anything)
I'd flash the yakju image but I would lose the warranty. I asked this on the vodafone forum and they relayed the question to Samsung who said that any software installation performed through unofficial channels would void the warranty. The vodafone guy suggested to go to an authorized samsung service and ask them to do it.
I already sent in my phone 3 times first for a boot loop, second for excessive battery drain and third for coming back from the service with a busted speaker.

Apparently yakju does not contain the Norwegian, Swedish and Danish dictionaries, so if you want to keep those, you should not switch to yakju. Otherwise, you will not notice a difference in the builds at all, other than faster updates...

You could flash back to stock and relock the bootloader if you need to send your device in for repair. They wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
i gave up the wait..and flashed it...booo Samsung Canada... now i am waiting for ICS for my GTAB 10.1...
very satisfied with 4.0.4 coming from 4.0.1...stupid how this takes so loong for Samsung Canada Mobile...

Do you know it as a fact that Yakju won't get Norwegian dictionary? Where have you heard this? I have flashed my phone to yakju from yakjuxw, and i really really hope that Norwegian dictionary will come!

No, I don't know it as a fact. But there has been at least a few users here saying that yakju does not come with a Norwegian dictionary.
See here.
On the German Samsung site there was for a while an official download which changed from ITL41F.i9250XWKK8 (yakjuxw) to ITL41F (yakju). In principle it was a automated Odin Update. Later they removed it (probable to much problems with unexpierenced user). Search on the web for it, maybe you find it. or call Samsung support for it.
Who still waits for OTAs anymore??? 0_o
I scratch my head every time I read a thread like this on a software development and hacking site. Go to www.noballstoroot.com

I go into About phone -> System updates
then i press check now, and then it says : Your system is currently up to date. Last checked for update is : {current time}.
Strange! Weird that you don't get the option for the update. Another option for you would be to root and rom the phone. That way you don't have to wait for OTA you can just install yourself. Good luck anyway

It appears that Google isn't pushing the updates all at once. In the Netherlands people reported the update allready in december and some where getting it in januari. I myself got it about a week and a half ago. I guess all it needs is a little patience ;-)

I'm not sure. Some say it might have to do with batches of phones that have been manufactured and shipped but I didn't see any proof of that. All I know is that I myself got the update about 2 weeks after I first got the phone this month and that other people got it in december. I even saw people who got their phones in December and got the update later then me...

There are some variations of the phone, some are updated by google and some by Samsung. I had YAKJUXW before and didnt get the updates, but after i changed to YAKJU the update came immidiately after i booted the phone.
The difference of the builds is just regional i think, but i could be wrong.

True. Forgot about that. But the fact remains that also with JAKJU the update was rolled out in stages. I myself have a JAKJU and I heard of many getting the OTA for 4.0.2 on different moments.
If you have a JAKJUxx build the update should indeed come from Samsung.

I followed the guide in the second post of this thread to change from YAKJUXW to YAKJU.
/edit:
I don't know if the Norwegian T9 will be included in the YAKJU builds, it is NOT in the build i have now though (I'm using Swiftkey X, so it's not so important for me).
Is there any good reason why Samsung is giving out some phones with yakju and others with yakjuxw? Is Samsung doing anything with the build from Google before releasing it to us? Like adding apps or settings or restrictions?
I'm still on 4.0.1 as well. Wish I would get the update!

They are more than likely carrier tweaks, rather than Samsung. Could be anything from corporate colors to tweaks and restrictions to the OS...
Just out of curiousity, if I flash a custom dev rom (ie. cm9 or aokp), will my phone become yajku?
Nope, you will be dependent upon the ROM dev for updates (which will likely be more frequent), and you will probably have to flash them yourself...
I followed this method.. Everything is great now

I don't think this right. For example, here in Canada, all of the carriers have the same build, the yakjuux. It is not carrier dependent, so that's why I don't think there are carrier tweaks. (Unless of course, all the carriers in Canada use the same tweaks!) The same goes for the yakjuxw builds. Those are found in more than one country, and on more than one carrier, so... ?
Hello,
Ive got 2 Galaxy nexus one bought from US store and one from a UK store, both are not the LTE versions.
i got OTA update from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 OTA on the UK one but not yet for the US.
I dont want to brick the phone so Id like some help please, ive never used nexus phones before so i apologize for all the questions.
is it possible to flash it to the US one? and if i do will i still get OTA updates when they roll out or would i have to always do it manually?
the US one is 4.0.1 baseband: XXKK1 Kernel: ga052f63 Build: ITL41F
and i the UK one is 4.0.2 baseband: KK6 kernel: gaaa2611 Build: ICL53F after OTA update.
Do use Gnex Toolkit v4.1 ? and without rooting?
Thanks guys

you won't brick.
there is no U.S. firmware for the Galaxy Nexus.
there are only three types of OTAs:
yakju: Google supported (GSM)
mysid: Google supported (LTE)
variants of yakju (yakjuxw,yakjuux,etc): GSM
flash it.

it still receives updates but it comes from Samsung. still a stock experience, just comes with extra languages and things like that.
you can convert it to a yakju (search it).
updates often come out for yakju more frequently than the variations of yakju
If I convert it to a yakju, will this affect my warranty? If yes, can I convert it back to my current one?

Based on my modest knowledge, if the nexus doesn't have a flash counter and u flash back to yakuxw u shouldnt lose warranted. Better ask the professionals here in xda though.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting. If you were stock I would flash the tajku image as the US variant is likely to get it first anyway.
Non-yakju devices will have to wait for their carrier to update it.

If I root my phone, will my sms(which arent sycronised) deleted?and what about the rest of my information on the phone? can it damage my phone?
Rooting and flashing ROM's can damage your handset if you don't know what you're doing. Most flashing errors can be erectified though.
Where are you located in the world?
Verizon and Sprint are US based LTE handsets, they arent sold outside the states since they cant work on other LTE networks. Take a picture of your "About phone" page (screenshots can be taken with pressing "Volume down + Power" simultaniously.

Have you tried to clear Google framework data and the try to check for updates again?

I understand your confusion. A Nexus phone should get the update as soon as possible.
I just updated my phone yesterday, thanks to efrant how to guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170&highlight=yakjuzs
the problem is so many builds, I learned that yakju build is directly supported by google. However, today I learned that the build takju got the Jellybean update. Question what about the rest, yakjuux, yakjuzs, yakjujp.....etc.? I don't know, only android team knows the update process, so I hope they post something about that in google+, but I doubt that.
We have to wait, either get it OTA(which my never happen) or flash the update manually as soon google post the update URL's specified for your phone build.
If you have quadrant standard installed you can see your build under system information.

Follow efrant's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769301
and after getting to 4.0.4
install the OTA jellybean update or if you cant wait, install CWM and then follow efrant's guide on OTA update using CWM.
And you are set.
I did the same from yakjujp. am now running 4.1.1 stock jellybean, rooted.

There are actually multiple options on this forum that can assist you. Since you labeled yourself as a newby, I'd suggest Mark Skippen's Galaxy Nexus toolkit option (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310) . It does all of the steps in efrant's post, but in a easy gui format. I'd recommend efrant's steps if you want to know what goes on behind the scenes and feel pretty comfortable with doing some manual coding.
Good luck!

I don't know. But I flashed nexus S with fast boot and it worked. But galaxy nexus is the first time. I'm not sure anything. If you have experience, please help me
I manually flashed from yakjuux 4.0.1 to yakju 4.0.4 and then received the 4.1.1 OTA immediately afterwards. I had absolutely zero experience with anything of this type and it went smoothly. I read the instructions over a bunch of times before proceeding though. The hardest part was installing the fastboot drivers and I managed to get it to work on the second try. Not very complicated at all.

Hi all,
I just have bought a galaxy nexus, but The device product is: yakjujp.
(I searched in the Internet, but I can't find where is it come from.) If I flashed this device with factory image yakju , is it OK? (can that image work with my phone?) I'm a newbie, please help me.
PS: Why I must do that? because this device still on 4.0.2 and no system update available. I want to upgrade to 4.0.4 and JB in the future
Thanks all,

The extension jp most probably means Japan :cyclops:; It's a localized build for GSM maguro model, released by Samsung, not by Google.
So your first option is obvious - wait patiently for Samsung release of OTA of 4.0.4 or 4.1.1 for yakjujp
I've got OTA upgrade to 4.0.4 for my GN maguro/yakjuwz 2 weeks ago, so at some point your build will be upgraded as well
The option for impatient (most of us, otherwise why would we be looking on this forum in the first place) would be to flash Google OTA build yakju on your phone.
I've found at least few threads on this site describing the procedure, you can find it HERE, but better HERE or HERE
I was thinking about flash using currently not existing option :-(
I've found this great Gnex Toolkit that able to do many wonderful things to all GN models.
IMHO, it can be ultimate tool for all GN models, including those with non-Google build, all the flavors yakju(xx)
It is already have an option "Flash Google Stock Image to phone", which is exactly the option we need
But tool currently supports only Google build yakju and I am too n00b to post my comments in DEV thread

Use the guide that Srirama said in post #2. It is exactly the same process as flashing the Nexus S with fastboot. (The guide just looks long, because I broke it down into very simple steps in the hopes the people might learn something and NOT use toolkits.)

Hey sadboy7489, reply buddy.. did u upgrade?? did u take backup of your stock ROM??
yakju is Google's International GSM version..
yakjujp is for Middle East, Africa and Asian countries - region based
It gets updates from Samsung not from Google..
So yakjujp updates are always delayed because Samsung is responsible for yakjujp version..
Any one can install yakju build on yakjujp because its just a build nothing else ..
so it'll become International GSM version and works in 200+ countries and has additional languages support + regular updates from google..
Even my Galaxy Nexus is yakjujp but I installed yakju 4.0.4 then updated to 4.1.1 :good:
Enjoy !
