If you just got your phone the BEST way by far is to just just sfhub's autoroot package http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Run the root, then add the EL29+CWM+Rogue, or EL26 whatever your kernal says you have. This will give you root and CWM for flashing modems, and ROMs. Just spend some serious time reading the stickies and through the threads. You really don't want to end up with an expensive paper weight

yes, it's real you are not dreaming, it;s that easy
the whole process takes about 3 min tops
The methods I've found when searching thru threads were all thru Odin. Via custome recovery, I'm a noob in terms of Samsung. Never really liked touch wiz, but this phones has such great hardware it can't be denied. My only riff is that they didn't go with 1280×800 Res, but that would give the galaxy nexus problems. But again its not like i posted this in the deployment section. I was always told "if u have a question you should ask". And i did so in the right forum.

Been gone a while...Have a "yes" noob ?

Good evening. I havent been on here in a WHILE since I got rid of my htc EVO. I am looking for the new and easiest way to root/unlock my epic 4g touch please... I was reading around a few and some of them mess your wifi up and I need mine for work purposes. I would be flashing Cyan9 of course after I root the phone. I do apologize for the "noob" Where can I find the way to root question. Thanks again
It only takes minimal reading to find out how to root this phone. But you can use this link. Please follow the instructions! It may look complicated, but it really isn't.

You can't go wrong....
On phone so can't link, but if you go to develop section, there's 1 master sticky. In there is a ton of sticky posts, find the one on rooting. After that go to the cyan thread and read the first 2 pages. Then go to q and a questions with anything leftover. 10 min of reading and you'll be way ahead of where you are now. Good luck

Sfhubs auto root. If your flashing cm9 you'll need to add the EL26+cwm kernel to flash.

Just make sure you thoroughly read and follow the installation instructions for whatever ROM you are going to flash and always ask questions before you take any step you are unsure of. Don't take shortcuts or disregard any instructions.
There are so many people in this forum who are willing to help if only asked.
Happy flashing and good luck!
Im good to go! Thanks. Now the only thing its my "superuser" app is saying it has an update. I was reading some of the reviews on it and people said dont update. What should I do?

Nowadays the rule of thumb is to never use ROM manager to install cwm unless its specifically stated to do so by devs for that particular model. I've seen it cause too many bricks. It may work but it may also brick u. U are better off using the recovery provided here.

I am currently running TWRP to see if the IMEI goes missing using it. If so we can rule CWM out of possibilities.
Gotta say though, I am liking it more than CWM. Give TWRP a try.
Thanks guys I really do appreciate the words of encouragement and links and suggestions thank you for your time I'm nervous but going to-do it tonight

I heard that twrp doesn't support external SD. If it doesn't then I have no use for it cuz I have everything stored on ext SD. That's why I use cwm

The file manager in TWRP see's my external SD. I am sure you can flash from it.
I only ever flash from internal though.

Well, if you've checked the IMEI thread and read my posts I've done quite a lot today using TWRP. Even restored back to stock unrooted via Odin straight from JB AOKP. I'm not sure if it's how CWM does something with the partitions or what. I used TWRP because there weren't any reports, so I wanted to test and see.

I've never used heimdall, I have Windows but go to galaxys3root.com and there is a guide there on how to root. Just follow those steps and it should work. You will lose all the data on your internal sdcard though

Did you install that from the market? If so that app has bricked countless sg3's including mine. That app should have a warning or just be removed from the market its terrible, there are other ways to get beats installed without bricking your device!!

I agree DO NOT USE that site. But my main reason for visiting this thread was to say Beats sucks. Get good headphones and PowerAmp and you should get way better sound quality.

To be a bit more clear.. There indeed can be many kinds of routes, some can reset your counter, and I believe some don't. Counter is a number that changes if you root your device so T-Mobile knows you messed with it. If your counter gets reset, they can't tell if you rooted or not.
I'm not on the T-Mobile network, so I didn't really care which. Head over to the developer section of this device category and read the thread by 'Simplelife' on how to root! Pick a method best for you. I personally used option 2.

Just picked up 2 of these T-Mo Note 2's last weekend. I just used the Galaxy Note2 ToolKit v3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957720 Just follow the on screen instructions, and make sure you read all the options. It wasn't as easy as unlocking and rooting my Nexus... but all I had to do is click one more option lol!
Thanks everyone for input. I used toolkit v3 and it worked flawlessly. Got root, recovery, and jedi x11. Friggin awesome.

How do I find the root toolkit?
I think the easiest method would be to flash TWRP and then flash superzu via TWRP.
