Anyone got any idea why this might be happening?
One remark in the Revolution HD ROM thread suggested starting again from scratch (re-locking) - I hope that's excessive...
Do you think it's because of the amount of data on my SD? or perhaps I should remove a file it's getting caught up on?

Either by unplugging the AC charger, or deleting a bundle of large, non-flashable .zip files on my SD card.
just had the same prob and thought i had bricked it...did a google and found your post unplugged it from the wall charger and it carried on loading...phew!

yup mine from time to time does the same thing just unplug that thing and it fires away.

USB Powered problem?
Looks like the problem is not FIXED for me. I'm still stuck at the HBOOT checking SD card update screen while attempting to root the device. I just got the phone today and followed all instructions to successfully unlock the bootloader. Now this thing is driving me crazy. I read on another thread that the USB charging might contribute to this problem, but I really don't know how to fix this. The SD storage is at default state. I only copied the SuperSU zip file while following the instructions. Please help.
PS: I noticed that the phone is not fully charged. It is somewhere below 50% power. Could this be the case?
Do you flash the custom recovery after successfully unlock the bootloader ?
I couldn't even get into FASTBOOT to type in the necessary commands. It's just stuck there at HBOOT Checking SD Update...Unplugging and replugging the USB cable got me in with FASTBOOT USB, but then the FLASH RECOVERY IMG command prompt execution just got stuck at waiting for device. So no recovery whatsoever at this stage.

Pull USB Cable and it will work, then put it in again
Already tried that mate. The command prompt shows waiting for device and stuck there.

Yes. I used those to unlock the bootloader. And if HTC Sync is the problem, I wouldn't be surprised. It doesn't detect the phone when it is plugged in . Even the installation was troublesome. I had to set to Windows XP compatibility to install it on Win8 CP 64bit

So you do have "My Htc" under Android USB Devices when checking the Device Manager in your PC, maybe uninstall and reinstall HTC Sync will help ?
Uhm no. I don't have anything that's called My HTC or Android and the like in my device manager . Don't know why but I got through the bootloader unlocking process by following the HTCDev instructions
Then download the Htc Sync and install it as it will install the required driver. You can uninstall the htc sync but leave the driver.
Give it a try and see how it goes.
Uninstalled and reinstalled HTC Sync a dozen times, still no luck. I highly suspect the drivers are incompatible with Windows 8 x64 at the moment. Like I said, the installation requires WinXP compatibility mode, otherwise the installer gave me the 'administration privileges' error, even though it was 'run as administrator' already . HTC Sync itself didn't detect my phone at all when it was plugged in. Better wait for HTC Sync Manager then
I just updated the HTC sync from the link above and the installation went smoothly. The different is I'm on Windows 8 32 bit. I remember that Htc Sync is working fine for my other laptop which was on windows 8 x64 but unable to test it now as I reverted to windows 7.
Strange. The link you provided clearly said the latest version was 3.2.20. But when I pressed download, the exe file said 3.2.10? Perhaps they forgot to update their download server? Damn. I had high hope with the One X. But looks like I'll stick with the iPhone a bit longer, until HTC sorts things out.

Do you have HTC Sync installed? I think you have a driver issue there. Also try unplugging the usb lead and trying another port on your pc. If all else fails, the red triangle is a safe place to just remove the battery and start again.
Firstly you should install HTC Sync on your PC and ensure that you have USB drivers loaded for your android device. The correct drivers should be in the C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Win7_x86 folder.
Once that is established, remove and reinsert the USB cable a few times to make sure the driver is loaded and active. Then run the recovery-windows.bat from the cmd box.
then you will get the screen on your phone, using the optical trackpad select wipe, then flash from SD card. Then you are good to go.
I did this yesterday and ran into the same issues as you.
BTW I base this on using Windows 7 32bit.

yeh i think its a htc sync issue too. I have htc sync installed, but after i did step 1 (or 2 i cant remember) the computer came up with the install new hardware wizard
Better doing it via the TinyCore linux method - Windows method doesn't work properly (for me anyway). Recovery in Windows is fine, though

If you know how to burn a cd you could go over to modaco and there is a thread by craigcrawford about rooting using the r3 method.. basically if you follow that you will have linux running from the disc and all the files needed are on it also. I've never used linux before and found it really easy. That way you won't run into any driver issues.
Just be careful, take your time and always remember that there are now over 60 confirmed handsets that are usb bricked!

Yeah I think this is where I am having the problem. When I connect my phone to my pc it has the popup saying android phone connected, but HTC Sync still says "disconnected"
I'll try some stuff.

Also just try a simple reboot of your pc to stop any old adb stuff running and it might help clear any driver issues.
Sorry if this seems like an obvious thing to try, but sometimes the obvious stuff is what catches us out

Make sure when you boot the phone up into recovery that you leave the USB cable disconnected and only reconnect once the red triangle appears.
I find if I leave it in, when it starts to boot on the HTC screen Windows goes a bit funny and fails to install the driver.

"USB Device Not Recognized"
I have searched for so long trying to figure out what's wrong. I'm out of idea's on how to fix it, nothing will recognize my Evo.
Tried on 4 different computers, two of them running 7, one running xp, and last running vista, all say the same thing, computers not the problem.
Downloaded htc sync, disabled/enabled usb debugging, restarted the phone many times, restarted computers, and even changed the default usb connection to HDD and HTC sync.
I rooted using the idiot proof guide and used the Sprint Rom he linked in the guide. Would love some help. Thanks!
Try downloading the auto sync app in market
And let me know what happens.

Which HTC Sync did you try? I think the latest is 2.0.40

Assuming you've used ADB, what response you you get from
ADB DEVICES at the command prompt?
you should get something like

adb server is out of date

List of devices attached
HT05EHL10353 device
and we will know you have a good physical connection to the computers. If it doesnt show up, try a different USB cable....

Thanks for the help! I checked for my device in ADB and it does not list it, so i guess my cable is probably bad. I'll go out and buy another and hopefully that fixes the problem.

When i connect my phone in recovery mode, it still just says device not recognized, so i can't really do that.

Go into your computers device manager and uninstall the device and htc sync, then reinstall sync and make sure usb debugging is on then plug it in
Edit: sorry, go into the device manager with it plugged in. if its not there (should be a yellow or red triangle next to it or neat the to as a HID) them it could be your cable or phones port.

Just tried that and it's a no go, still the same problem, Also tried another cable today and that didn't help either.
I have light leakeage at the bottom of my phone, so i think i'm going to take it in for that and just get a replacement.

I think you need to pay closer attention to the guide, because this statement makes no sense in reference to the guide.
The guide is helping you install ADB drivers, you don't need to do anything in ADB while your phone is in recovery in that guide.
Could be wrong, but I'm still fairly certain that the guide will fix your issue, because I had the same problem.
It's as simple as you do not have the correct, or any ADB drivers, therefore your phone is not showing up as a device under ADB. Once you have the proper drivers installed, your device will show up.

I followed the simple guide step by step.
When i boot into recovery mode i end up with this in the picture.
His recovery mode shows an Evo with a little exclamation mark next to it, i'm guessing what i got is still recovery mode. But still if i plug my phone in my computer still says unknown device, so i can't install ADB drivers.

You just have a different recovery. Once you are in recovery, you don't need to do anything else on your phone specifically.
Instead, connect your phone to your PC via USB if it isn't already and open up device manager on your PC and follow the rest of the guide.
Edit: Where does it say unknown device? In Device Manager?

It shows up in usb controllers instead of other devices as he shows in the guide. If i try to update the driver it just tells me it's already up to date.

Gotta bump, would really love to just fix this instead of driving 30 mins to a sprint store.
So i followed the guide for installing apb drivers, but even in recovery mode my phone still shows up as unknown device in device manager.
Ok, well I just ran into this myself on my secondary computer. Have you tried a different USB port on your PC?
My front ones were giving me unknown device, but as soon as I plugged it into one of the ports on the back of the mobo ADB showed right up in device manager.
Factory reset it and get it exchanged.I belief is the SD card failure issue.

I have the same problem and posted this question on 3 forums including the HTC support forum and nobody has been able to find the correct solution.
I know the cable and the port is good because I can connect my Samsung Moment to it and it works perfectly. On the Evo, I've downloaded the latest HTC Sync from the official HTC site, tried the one on the microsd card, checked and un-checked USB debugging, and still it doesn't connect.
The Evo won't connect to my Win 7 computer at home, Win XP at work, but it will connect to my daughters computer which is running Win XP also (all 32 bit).
I bought this Evo from Best Buy exactly 28 days ago today. Do they give you 30 days to return it, or is that only the Sprint store?

Small Linux distro here: Download Puppy Linux
Download that, burn it to a CD or put it on a flash drive with UNetbootin.
Boot up and download/make a new key for Linux. Extract it and run as root. (open terminal and run "sudo ./alpharevx")
I couldn't get it to work in vmWare.
mines stuck on waiting for fastboot...im on window 7 64 bit, im gonna try reinstalling the drivers, but nothing else ive tried works
after reinstalling drivers....it now says failed

It keeps on disconnecting and reconnecting, and that makes it get stuck. I uninstalled the htc sync and drivers and reinstalled the linked driver here. Going to try again. It just flat out failed the first time, got all the way to rebooting the bootloader x2 the second time, but then failed. Both times I heard the bu-dunk of a device being unconnected from my computer. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Edit: I tried downloading the alpharev file again, and it had more stuff in it this time. Going to try again. Will post results.
Edit 2:Still no joy. Failed in the same spot. Tried on xp and same thing. Will dig around for my old ubuntu cd and see what happens.
I keep getting stuck at waiting for fastboot also, win7 pro 64 also, might boot into linux and see if it works that way

Let's put a error summary here:
- Windows 7 32/64bit (or all Windows OS?)
- HTC Sync not installed.
- HTC Drivers (provided by Alpharev) installed.
- switching USB ports tried
- two fastboot attempts
+ specifically for those without .dll problems (resolved).
Also, could a mod possibly merge the three Alpharevx threads..? :/
On Windows 32 it makes it up to the Fastboot process. Enter the key, everything works good, then it gets to the section trying to change the Fastboot and fails each time.
Do I need Android sdk for this, for adb.

this is where mine is ATM, reinstalling the drivers provided seemed to fixed the hang up issue, now it tries to go to fastboot twice and then says failed.

For now there's only the Linux option. Seems like drivers and .dll problems don't happen there.
When i try it it says (Beta key accepted - thank you for participating!) but nothing happens my phone doesnt do anything. any help would be great.
i failed in windows numerous times, went downstairs to use my linux server and worked first time.

Hello, I'm having some problems with my HTC One X.
When trying to send commands to the phone while it is in fastboot, cmd says "waiting for device" and doesn't change.
My bootloader is unlocked and CWM Recovery is installed although when I try and install one of the 4 ROM's I have on my phones internal storage the installer looks like it's working until it gets to around 20% and then says it is complete. When the device restarts it gets stuck on the "HTC quietly brilliant" screen. I am however still able to mount the phone and put files onto it through CWM. I have tried to use RUU and this just gives an error about USB not connected.
If you think you can help, thank you and if you need to know anything else I will try and give you as much information as I can.

What OS is your computer running? Does it say FASTBOOT USB on phone display?
I have a macbook pro as my main computer but all things to do with rooting I do on a windows desktop.
This display says fastboot usb but all fastboot commands do nothing and it still doesn't show up in fastboot devices.

Reboot pc and phone if you haven't already.
You could try it with your mac, there's plenty of guides out there on how to setup.
Make sure to use sudo!!
Tried it on mac like you suggested, still no devices listed. And installations still only get to around 20%.

I'm running windows 8 64-bit, and I have an HTC One from VZW.
The phone is recognized via ADB, but whenever I get into the bootloader, it tells me the device isnt recognized and I can't do any fastboot commands with it. I was able to root and use fastboot on my N7 2013 from the same PC, so this is frustrating because I want to send my One in to sonic but if I can't DO anything when I s-off there's no point in sending it it.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

I was able to root and use fastboot on my N7 2013 from the same PC, so this is frustrating because I want to send my One in to sonic but if I can't DO anything when I s-off there's no point in sending it it.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

PS - I've only tried this PC, no others. It may work on my macbook but thats away for repair.

I would just install HTC Sync, sounds like it's a driver issue and HTC Sync will provide those needed new drivers for HTC.

sorry, thought I read it installed all the new drivers, you could try using Google to find the HTC current drivers, I can give you the numbers I have on mine my cpu is win 7 64bit not sure if it'll help but when in "uninstall or change a program" my HTC BMP USB Driver driver # is 1.0.5375
and my HTC Driver Installer driver # is 4.0.1.001
can't say it this helps at all but this is the CPU I used that I fixed the issue with

My BMP is the same but my HTC Driver Installer is 4.0.3.001
Maybe I can find that other one and it will work for me
Here is a previous post I made to another guy having the same problem. Not sure if this will help but this is what I did.
I had this problem too running windows 8 x64. I think my problem was that I installed the sdk first with google's USB driver and not HTC's driver. What I did to make it work is switch computers over to my wifes which at the time I hadn't installed anything on yet. I went to htcdev.com and went to the part of the site where it is step-by-step on how to unlock the bootloader. I installed the Java Runtime Environment on the link provided on the upper right side of the site, then I installed the HTC sync manager on the link provided as well. I had my phone connected to my computer usb 2.0 (not usb 3.0) the whole time and with USB debugging enabled (not in fastboot mode, but with phone normally on). After that I took the three files from the sdk that htc wants you to place in a separate folder and put them in c:\Android. I did not install anything from sdk this go around.. i just took the three files out and put them in a separate folder as instructed by htc. After that I opened cmd and directed it to the folder I placed the files in (cd c:\Android) and ran command "adb reboot bootlader" Once I did that and hit fastboot the "My HTC" in device manager no longer had an exclamation point. So in summary, I couldn't reverse the drivers from my computer that I installed first so I resorted to using my wife's computer that didn't have anything installed yet. I installed JRE, then HTC sync software, and just used the 3 files HTC wants from sdk and placed them into a separate folder. I didn't install anything from sdk. It all worked after that. I don't have instructions on how to reverse the usb drivers you have already installed because I couldn't figure it out... in fact, I formatted windows on my pc and am reinstalling. Hope this helps.

Yeah I'm going to try it out on my roommates laptop that only has samsung drivers and the ADB installed and see what happens. Can't reformat the PC cause it's my School desktop and I've got work on there.
Once my macbook pro comes back from repairs I'll use that though, since I've never had issues running adb commands on my mac
Found a soultion
After I tried almost everything I tried to improvise and try something totally different and it worked!
First uninstall the driver in the Device Manger and then press to update it >> then press Browse my Computer for driver Software >> then press on Let me pick from list.... >> in the list choose the Portable Devices >> choose MPT USB Drive !
And It works...

MPT USB Drive isnt one of my options
However I've found that it's microsofts USB3 drivers, which override the Intel ones.
I just got my macbook back from repairs and it has USB3 ports as well so I was worried it wouldnt work, but its working fine from there
I'm having this same problem and nothing I do is working. I even tried from another computer but had no luck. adb finds the phone fine but fastboot just won't work. This is keeping me from getting S-Off. Someone please help.
Edit: Nevermind I think the issue is that I'm using Windows 8.1
