[Q] DHD rooting/flashing issues - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
Have been going round in circles trying to root and flash my mate's DHD. I've been reading various threads and trying various methods but to no avail.
His DHD was originally on Froyo 2.2 and he took the T-Mobile OTA update to 2.3 w/Sense 3.0 when it was rolled out. As I understand it, it must be downgraded back to 2.2 before we can get full root access?
I've installed SDK on my PC and have been able to push tacoroot and misc_version to the phone. However, when running tacoroot, it reboots to go into recovery and I get the red triangle with the exclamation mark. The phone won't boot into recovery manually either. I've already done a factory reset to see if that helped, but no joy.
What am I doing wrong? Should the phone be able to access recovery completely stock? I never had this much hassle with my Desire - can't believe the DHD is such a pain in the backside. He has the phone with him now (he needs it tomorrow) but we're going to re-attempt tomorrow afternoon.
Am I doing things in the right order? Why do I keep getting the red triangle when trying to go into recovery?
Your help would be much appreciated!

well, as far as i remember you need to downgrade to 1.32 specifically.
and another thing, have you tried using advanced hack kit? it is pretty much one click solution, but can be tricky if the pc it runs from is not compleatly clean.

Try this on an Ubuntoo live CD, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
worked like a charm for me..

I'm running Windows and followed the Hack Kit instructions to the letter. We're making more progress than before, but have run into the following problem:

Edit: Although I don't think it's a Windows issue, I'm downloading the Ubuntu live disc and will try it with that.

You have a couple of issues from the output you posted. In the beginning it couldn't find the zergrush files to temp root. This leads me to believe it was a bad download of kit. Did you verify the md5 for file integrity? And the second was an error with the SD card. You might want to try a different one
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA

Checked the MD5 - came back fine. Have swapped the SD card for another one - formatted to FAT32 with nothing else on it.
Will re-run.
Still downloading the Ubuntu disc (!) so will try that in a mo if a re-run with a new SD card doesn't work.
Thanks for the input, much appreciated!
Edit: Exactly the same issue again. Will try it under Ubuntu.

That doesn´t seem to be an sdcard issue. Download the Kit again and extract it all in the same folder...The cases experiencing your issue are mostly for missing files in the hack kit.
Look this in the code you pasted: "...cannot open 'tools/bin/zergRush': No such file or directory..."

I guessed the issue with the missing files but he said the md5 check out.
I mention the SD card because of the line of error writing to mmcblk1. After the line creating goldcard, but you spend more time helping out in the irc to know better than me

Yeah, those are the cases I have seem, but maybe something different comes out....it is hard to know without the whole information...

Thanks to everyone who offered ideas and support; I've finally managed to do it.

huge adb problemo

Okay i have a big problem...
I have rooted my device, however didn't run the ENG build, so my recovery is dependent on the pushing of the update.zip...
I flashed the myfroyo5 after pushing the update.zip... and ADB worked great, found the device in HBOOT and recovery.
Now after flashing this ROM, when i try and reboot back HBOOT no devices found.. however when i'm at the home screen with Myfroyo5 booted up, it sees the device..
Now i can't run any update, or get into clockwork recovery because i can't push the update.zip, because ADB can't see my device....
Please help! Any idea how i can get it to see my device with Myfroyo5? Otherwise i'm stuck with Myfroyo5 and can't reverse or do anything with it
Before all i did was change the option from device storage, to charge only, and that's how it worked...
again any ideas are appreciated!
wow 58 views and no one has any ideas? Please help!
Try turning on USB debugging mode?
Yes its always on, always check marked
I feel like I did have a similar problem at one point, but I don't remember how I resolved it. Sorry.
gee maybe you should have flashed the eng build as everyone was told to do when they rooted their slide. try a dozen different large and small SD cards, i don't really think that is what makes it work but others seem to disagree and maybe once you swap them out you'll get lucky. but first i would try flashing the eng build

Must your replies always, ALWAYS have some snarky bit about how the person asking the question screwed up?
Humans are prone to error. You have valuable insight but beating someone's ego up before you give it really offsets your kindness.

They don't always have snarky bits, but when 90% of problems are caused by not following directions then it apparently needs to be retold, I help a lot and I gave ideas to try here. Odds are he can still flash the eng build and then get into clockwork, but not following directions causes issues like this.

I see your point but, as I recall, the ENG build came after root had been put out there for a day or so. I'm also pretty sure it came after SlideMeRoot1.
Things like this, along with simple mistakes, can cause these errors. You are helpful but I just find the "hey, dummy" tone to be overkill.
Not everyone who screws up is out to **** up your day, ya know? I've been having my own ENG build problems because I made a mistake. It doesn't mean I don't know how to follow directions, it just means I made a mistake, the way every human on the planet does.
I apologize, as well, because my own real life smiley fun tone doesn't translate well to the forum. IE: you good kid.

well first off.. i did follow directions... and it didn't work... and i've flashed multiple roms by just re-doing the ota.zip then the update.zip push, to get me into clockwork, until i flashed myfroyo5
which does not allow me to "charge only" which is why ADB doesn't allow to recognize my device in HBOOT/Recovery.
On the contra-ire i do know what i'm doing however a little bit of "knowledge" to point out maybe something that will fix an issue i have would be great.
Now i'm running myfroyo5, the device is seen by adb when the phones booted up, however upon reset to HBOOT/Recovery no devices are found. I've tried putting ENG build on my Sdcard, and HBOOT doesn't see it, also, i've tried pushing flash_image to /data/local, and mtd0.img to /data/local, and the files will not move.
That is part of my problem i'm assuming, i'll try another SD card to see if it will fix it, but i'm not sure its something that simple... but who knows, right?

Just use CR new root method for the ota update and then follow the steps to flash ENG build. wouldnt that work? cause its unneccessary for the device to be recognized in hboot in adb that way =\ just guesing
i would do all that too.... you know i think the issue is the copying the files over... none of them are actually moving where they need to go!...
And when i try to do it manually the folder says "read only file system" and when i try to push files it says "1188 KB/s <0 bytes in XXXX.000s>
so none of the image files are moving over to allow me to flash ENG build... i swapped different SD cards and now i can flash the ENG build, but i cant move the files to /data/local before i do that, so right now its pointless to flash it...

do u have root in the shell script when u try to push the files over?
yes i do, that's whats really weird... i do adb shell, and i get #
when i do it the cat way, it does what it needs to, yet when i go search for the files using linda file manager they're still not there...
i dont want to flash eng build and it not work...

i mean u could always just unroot and start from square one
can't unroot if my device is not seen with adb in hboot / recovery

I had the same problem just about and used the following thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710056 <-- BIG THANKS to Beartard for taking the time to type this all out. It worked just fine. I picked it up from - Installing the Engineering ROM - I kept my old update.zip file on the root of my sd card, and I got everthing back to normal, and everything works like new. Hope this helps

Thanks for the idea, but flashing the ENG build is pointless unless i can push the flash_image, and mtd0.img to /data/local... which for some reason my phone will not allow me to do this part;
Code:
type "adb push flash_image /data/local" and hit enter.
2. Type "adb push mtd0.img /data/local" and hit enter.

[Q] Cannot Downgrade Hboot 1.01.0002 to 1.01.0001

Hello,
I'm new to the forums, and have only just recently got a HTC Wildfire A3333 running 2.2.1.
I have tried to use " [GUIDE] Downgrade to HTC Froyo WWE for AlphaRevX (HBOOT 1.01.0001) " to downgrade the h boot as to start to gain root.
But when I have followed the instructions, it appears to complete ok, but when I reboot in to the system menu, it still shows as .002 hboot and does not install the rom supplied.
any help would be great
EDIT: IT TOLD ME I HAD SUCCESSFULLY CREATED GOLD CARD
GlennBrownie
same goes with me mate, i got the gold card and then i insert it, it all goes but when the cmd closes it still shows hboot 1.01.002
This happened to me on a Telstra wildfire (A3335). if you make it so the CMD window doesn’t close (I used an alternative shell) you will see that it actually gets some error before closing, which is why it doesn’t actually change the hboot.
I must have done it 20 times before I got it to work. I can't remember what I did differently the time I made it work, but it was something to do with which usb mode the phone was in for each step, and when I decided to change it from one mode to the other. Basically trying to make it so the phone wouldn’t say “preparing SD card” after I had made the goldcard.
Worst part was when I finally downgraded my Hboot, alphrev X still wouldn’t work for me. Continued to get the error of “Retrieving Caroline from certain doom...” and "mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00000000" I've since given up..
okays, thanks for the help, ill try that, but with alpharevx the problem they are tring to fix is the part where you need to restart into fastboot the second time, so in this case, ill give that a try. the thing is that im useing windows 7 enterprise, i have the hboot drivers all installed and etc, i used the intructions given to me and everyone else where you have to make the gold card. in that intruction it stated to put the sd card into the usb or sd port, the thing i did was switch my phone to mount the SD card and create it via there, i think the part where we all went wrong is unmounted it after we finished making the sd card. so try that, and with your problem i tghink you need to try and run the program in ADMIN mode (right click and run as admin) and then try and get the HBOOT drivers from Unrevoked installed. give that a try and hope it all works out
cheers
Well I managed to get step2.bat to run in a cmd so that it stayed open,
it came up with "FAILED <remote: 42 custom id check fail>".
when HTC booted in to bootloader it still showed same h.boot (.0002)

my question is, when i run alpharevx, it asks me for the beta key, note that it doesnt show my device name or anything like how i did it before i downgraded, any ideas why? and does anyone have a beta key for me to use? because the one i got with my phone when i entered it in said it was incorrect, when before before i downgraded it worked perfectly fine (except the rotting part).
what Beta key, I dont recall one?
To get a new beta key just follow this link, click download and then enter your phone's SN.

If it doesn’t show your device properly just reboot your phone. Basically every time the program fails it won’t show your device properly until you reboot again (This will also fix the issue where it thinks you have the wrong beta key). People suggesting to go get a new beta key have no idea. Have they not noticed that it doesn’t matter which HBoot version you select on the site you still get the same key based on your serial number.
yes, i used mt wildfire SN and i use the code it gives me still getting the same problem,

done it twice and it still come up with success message?
even did it through hex editor....
I tried to do it again to show screenshots.
firstly, I ran step one and it says "cannot stat" followed by file name and says "no such file or directory". see image1.jpg
I then checked the buzzdowngrade folder, and all files are there. see image4.jpg
I then attempted the goldcard, and I clicked get cid, and it loaded a CID with a lot of 0's in it so I dont think its showing correct CID, possibly hiding real CID?
image2.jpg
when I clicked patch MMC, it came up with an error message. see image3.jpg
Have you installed the HTC driver 3.0.0.007. If not, install it first before even going with step1.
And regarding step2, creating a working gold card is important. If you still get custom id errors, try with a different memory card. And run the gold card tool as administrator. And in that you will see mmc0 and mmc1 options. Try creating with the other if one fails.

Just downgraded and i think i know what is the problem.
You have to change the connection status from charge only to Mass storage
then click refresh and the memory card will be available.
HTC MMC : select you sd card.
And now patch.
right, got an update.
managed to succeed with the dmisc.img and others that failed - thanks to Mattyyey, cheers Matt
We then got to flashing the rom and it failed, any suggestions?
we recreated the gold card and formated the microSD card and patched and it told us that it had succeeded.

its probably your fake SD card! I was able to run the commands in step 1 and 2 from the cmd, all but the final ROM flash. I think after we create it we should confirm its been put on the SD card via hex workshop.... I did think of this last night but I was getting tired and you dont have it installed. I suspect its just the goldcard isn't done, everything else works when typed manually into cmd.
Unless anyone else has another reason for the custom ID check failing?
MATTYYEY was correct, it was due to fake microSD card, completed gold card with authentic SD card and it worked.

[Guide-How To Unroot and S-On after Revolutionary] Got ICS/Root Issues? This Helps!

Alright, so, I guess I'm not the only person having issues with the current versions of ICS, which is kinda comforting. If you can't update your SU binary in an ICS rom because your SU app tell you you're not S-Off, that means the bootloader partition was somehow damaged and forgot you're S-Off, so here's a detailed guide of what I did to get my phone up and running again.
This is also a great guide to help fix any stability problems your phone is having in general.
If you just need to unroot to send the phone back to Verizon or to sell it to someone, stop after step 17 and reading everything after it, but before step 18.
***WARNING***
If you do not follow these directions perfectly, you have a chance of damaging your phone. Part of this process involves flashing hboot manually through ADB, which is dangerous. PLEASE PAY SPECIFIC ATTENTION TO THAT SECTION OF THIS GUIDE. If you don't, your phone is going to be a very depressing paperweight.
IF AT ANY TIME YOUR PHONE TRIES TO ACCEPT AN OTA YOU NEED TO DENY IT! Because of how the Revolutionary Team's S-Off Tool works, we need to be in Froyo to flash hboot manually. An OTA will only get in the way!
Make sure your phone has a decent amount of battery (More than 50%) and keep it plugged in whenever you boot to hboot to be safe. If your phone powers off or dies when flashing a PG32IMG.zip, BAD BAD BAD things will happen!
I am also not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. If you're rooted and S-Off, you already know the dangers, so be smart!
Before I get started though, I have some people to credit, as their tools are used in this guide.
Thanks to:
notluK for his Unroot Guide on Android Central. Pretty much all of this guide is a direct kang/plagiarization from him, with minor changes due to file hosting fiascos.
CLSShortFuse for his SuperOneClick tool
The Revolutionary Team for their S-Off Tool
The unrEVOked Team for hosting the HTC Fastboot drivers
I think that's it... now, for your bacon.
NOTE: I do not have the original md5 sums for these files, so don't ask. Just download over a reliable connection (NOT ON YOUR PHONE!).
Pre-Requisites:
HTC Fastboot Drivers
Android SDK
Froyo (2.2.1) PG32IMG.zip
Gingerbread (2.3.3) PG32IMG.zip
Super SU ZIP from here
And a significant amount of time and patience
Okay... here goes. Please make sure to keep all of the above files on your PC to be safe. They are always good to have in case your phone goes screwy.
1. Download and install the Android SDK, install the HTC drivers and then reboot your PC. (If your SDK is fully functional and you already have the Fastboot drivers installed, just skip this step.)
2. Put the Froyo RUU zip on the root of your SD card and rename it to PG32IMG.zip (if Windows is hiding your file extensions, don't add the .zip to the end).
3. Boot your phone into the Bootloader (Vol Down + Power while off)
4. Press Vol Up to accept the update
5. Reboot phone when done (It may power off to a black screen instead of actually rebooting. Don't panic, just turn the phone on like you normally would ) When it's done booting, delete the PG32IMG.zip from the SD.
6. Check your OS version under Menu>Settings>About Phone>Software Information. Verify your OS version as 2.2.1.
7. Enable USB Debugging under Menu>Settings>Applications>Development
8. Plug in your phone and run the SuperOneClick root tool. When it asks if you want Busybox installed, say Yes. This is important, as you will need Busybox to verify the md5 of the hboot image you are about to flash to your phone manually.
9. Reboot your phone
10. Find the Froyo PG32IMG.zip on your computer and find the hboot_0.97.0000_336906.nb0 file inside. Extract it and put it in the platform-tools folder of your SDK.
11. Make sure your phone is still plugged in and then open your Command Prompt/Terminal and cd to your SDK's platform-tools folder, and follow the adb commands below, with your phone still plugged in, of course!
EXAMPLE: This is where mine is, yours may be different, so check!
Code:
cd C:\android\platform-tools\
Once that's done, continue:
Code:
adb devices (make sure ADB sees your phone if not, this is an appropriate time to ask for help :))
adb root
adb remount
adb push hboot_0.97.0000_336906.nb0 /data/local/
STOP HERE! If you're a dummy and didn't install Busybox with your SuperOneClick, download a Busybox Installer app from the Market and install it to /system/xbin/.
12. Now, do:
Code:
adb shell
su
/system/xbin/busybox md5sum /data/local/hboot_0.97.0000_336906.nb0
If your answer is not affe3dc9abe9d3a8c8bb3ba0ee5176ac, stop now and reboot your phone, then start over again at step 11.

If you skip this step, you're a big, dumb idiot. This next step involves flashing something to what is probably the most important partition on your phone. If you mess this up, no one can help you, and your phone is permanent brick.
13. If the md5sums match, continue:
Code:
adb shell dd if=/data/local/hboot_0.97.0000_336906.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
14. Verify the partition's md5sum to be extra-safe. If it's not exactly the same as the original md5 above, DO NOT REBOOT YOUR PHONE! Just start at step 11 again.
Code:
adb shell /system/xbin/busybox md5sum /dev/block/mmcblk0p18
15. Go into your Settings and disable Fast Boot (I don't remember where this is on the 2.2.1 firmware, so look around until you find it). Now, put the 2.3.3 PG32IMG.zip on the root of your SD and boot into hboot like you did before (Vol Down + Power while off).
16. Press Vol Up to accept the update.
17. Reboot into GB when done.
***WARNING***
If you accept the 2.3.4 OTA before going S-Off, you will have no way of reverting and back and re-rooting, SO DON'T DO IT!
The above may not be true, but I'm pretty sure it is, so PLEASE, for your own good, DON'T ACCEPT THE OTA!
If you needed to unroot to send the phone back to Verizon/wherever you got it from, or to sell it, this is the place to stop. If you're selling the phone to someone and they know what rooting is, they'll thank you for not updating to 2.3.4.
18. Run Revolutionary like you did before and accept the installation of ClockworkMod recovery (It'll be an old version, but that's okay).
19. Put the SuperUser zip from earlier on your SD and flash it like normal. (Backup first if you want to have a backup of factory stock unrooted)
20. Profit!
At this point, your phone is now at root 2.3.3 stock and S-Off again! Update your ClockworkMod recovery (or use 4ext, which I like a lot), make a backup (PLEASE, MAKE A BACKUP!) and then flash the rom of your choice, probably an ICS one.
Feel free to update your radio and stuff too. Things should be working much better than before.
And, to be safe, never OC past 1.3ghz. You shouldn't ever need to anyway, and it can break things, which means you'll have to do this all over again. Overclocking too high and my phone overheating is how I got into this situation in the first place, so I'm not just blowing hot air here. (Haha, get it? )
If anybody has any questions (please, don't bombard me with them ), feel free to post here and I'll do my best to respond in a helpful and timely manner.
If this helped you, click the "Thanks" button, or I'ma find you!
Happy flashing!

I'm glad this is useful! I have all the RUU files saved on my pc too, so if the links do go bad at some point, I still have them and can re-upload.

Links are definitely bad. Any chance you still have the files?
I found the Froyo RUU, but I still need the latest Gingerbread RUU.
This helps a lot thanks
Reg, could update the links for the Froyo and GB RUU's? Thanks!
I'll post new links sometime today, guys.

I cannot get android SDK to install, it says "Java SE Development Kit (JDK) not found. Error: Failed to find Java version for 'C:\Windows\system32\java.exe': [2] The system cannot find the file specified." I have went and tried to install the java it says to but that won't work either. Should I uninstall any java I have installed and try then? My phone bootloops everytime i restart causing me to factory reset it so I need to get a replacement. Thank you.
Edit: Got the java to install after deleting and also have android SDK installing all the stuff now.
New issue, sorry for so many questions im kind of a noob, but when i try to adb root it says something about not able to in production. Does it affect me that my sdk folder in on a seperate HDD from c:\? I'm gonna try to redo it now and hopefully have this working this afternoon. Also, cmd will not let me cd to my SDK folder.
Mount error
When I enter the remount command an error is returned stating: adb remount failed: unknown error: 0
Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?
Thanks

Did you "read the effen manual" as you are advised multiple times to do? It really is important. Making sure you aren't running any antivirus is quite important too.
The ACE Hack Kit includes all you need to root your phone. And it does it all for you with very little user input.
I'm having the same issue, I have read the effen manual at least 10 times, tried the chat support and got no reply, then got banned.
I have followed all instructions to the letter yet my downgrade is still failing.
Any one have any ideas?

The Hack Kit works great....and I would like to know why you were banned for....we try to help all the people that get stuck....and we actually do, so if you were banned, you probably didn´t follow the instructions...
By the way, what is the issue u are having?

becuse what i know is...the script needed running twice step process if your phone is already had gingerbread os..
1. first the script need running for downgrade it your phone to froyo version..
2. running that script again for continued processing gaining s-off if the first downgrade process is already success..
what i know is that AAHK script is already retried...
the best way you can try is using AAHK2 script by Phiber2000 from here..
but before that...you must read carefully the guide from that thread..what requirement and compatible for running that script correctly...
hope this can help..

it can be you're had the wrong img downgrade RUU file..or you had bad sd card..
to fix that..you must download the correct RUU file (PD98IMG-GBX.zip) for downgrade process..that are suitable with your CIDnum of your phone...
to do that..you must check it your phone CIDnum with fastboot command "fastboot getvar all" then you will see your CIDnum in the output of the command is in the line "INFO CIDNUM XXXXXXXX.."
example : if your CIDNUM is HTC__044 then the downgrade RUU file you must download is "PD98IMG-GB6.zip" file
if your RUU file for downgrade is already correct but AAHK still fail..then you can try using different sd card..
did you already try using AAHK2 script by Phiber2000 from the link that i give it to you above or still using AAHK first version..?
my bad!

just do not rename it that file..lets try just ignore it what AAHK2 say's...firstly just remove PD98IMG-GB2.zip file from PD98IMG folder (AAHK2 sub folder) that you try already using it before..and just put it your new PD98IMG-GB9.zip to PD98IMG folder under AAHK2 script sub folder..and try running that script again..don't forget to disable your antivirus first before running AAHK2 script..
and just don't forget to using sd card brand that are mentioned from the AAHK2 thread it self..like Sandisk, ADATA, Samsung, Patriot Memory (this is important)
just let me know..can you show me screen shot while running that AAHK2 script process..
Thank youu! IT worked!
thank you for helping.!
I manually copied the zip file to SD card and i locked boot loader, then i boot it with hboot and hoot recognised PD98IMG.ZIP and it flashed automatically. then i run old AAHK(NOT AAHK2) and IT WORKED!
THANK YOU!

[Q] Can't get Revolutionary to run on Linux Mint on Virtualbox on Mac

Hi,
HTC Desire running 4.1.2 CyanogenMod CM10 4.1.2 VJ
I've spent hours searching threads and waited for days just to get the chance to download a linux OS to install on my Virtualbox as I have a Mac that won't run Revolutionary. (I have no download allowance left on my broadband and now I'm stuck with the first Linux OS I got, which is Mint Cinnamon 14) + I have no access to Windows or a copy of.
I need to repartition my SD card as my phone started going into boot loops over the course of a few days and I had to keep popping the battery, but then the SD ext got totally corrupted after flashing Jellybean 4.1 and my trying to get a2sd to work.
I can still turn the phone on and use jellybean as my phone has the superuser app and was partically rooted with unrevoked, it's just the phone is not S OFF and I need that to be done in order to run the program I bought called Ext4 Recovered, as I'm stick of Gparted messing up my Mac's startup drive and auto booting as Gparted, and I liked the touch scren features of Ext 4 Recovered.
Ok so that's background.
I finally got Linux Mint to install and downloaded Revolutionary to its desktop. But it wouldn't unzip, so I right clicked, extracted the file and saw the program.exe but that won't open ethier. Followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192806 but that doesn't work i.e going in terminal.
It said following:
[email protected] ~ $ sudo ./revolutionary
sudo: ./revolutionary: command not found
[email protected] ~ $ ./revolutionary
bash: ./revolutionary: No such file or directory
[email protected] ~ $
Linux can see my phone is connected but I can't run the program!
Am so tired of having no phone functions, been a week now! Please can someone help me get this program to work on my Mac's Virtualbox?

you did cd (change directory) to the path of where you extracted revolutionary right? Also, it shouldnt be an .exe so make sure that you downloaded the one for linux not windows.
Btw i just tried it using using Mint 14 and it opened fine.
Try downloading it again. heres the linux version: http://revolutionary.io/revolutionary-0.4pre4.tgz
Put it into your downloads folder, then right click and extract here
Open terminal and run: cd ~/Downloads
Then run: sudo ./revolutionary

So I charge in, all fired up with your advice thinking 'Yeah I can do this!' Download the link you pasted, extracted file to downloads folder, it is the same file as I had. Then Linux messes it all up!
I can't see any applications menu on my version. The bottom status bar has nothing. All I can do is navigate folders like desktop, pictures, I could get on Firefox but then the screen keeps going small and showing multiple desktops and I have to click the window I was working in again. RIght clicking on the Rev file and selecting terminal does not open terminal, I can't find a list of programs separately to open Terminal either. Then the whole thing stopped responding to be and crashed.
And to make it all the worse. I have to go horse riding with my other half's young nephew when it's snowing and I am am not a horse person who likes horse riding! I just want to stay in and fix my stupid phone!!! RANT RANT sorry btw.

Well I know I could and have before but I never have any luck with getting SD ext to accept my app's via A2SD and I am wondering if it's cos I'm not S OFF + as I say, I like the touch screen recovery UI of Ext4 Recovered and how easy it is to try ROM's out.
My goal is to have JellyBean running with app's moved to SD and enough memory to download all the app's I want. I haven't even got facebook or Google Maps at the mo and I'm missing them!

I may be able to get Windows actually. I'll see. Just can't upgrade my broadband allowance to try different Linux's as provider wants a new 18month contract to do so and I'm off to out the country for a few months soon so no point.
Meanwhile though if any uses Linux Mint 14 and knows how to get it to show the programs installed like Windows has in its start menu, I'd appreciate it.

What do you mean by which ROM works with revolutionary?
Revolutionary doesn't install ROMs...it gives you s-off and a custom recovery.
What are you trying to do?
What have you done so far?

OK so I managed to find an old copy of Gingervillian 2.3 (F1-GB-V3-(ENG-A2SD)-Signed 2) and flashed that because Jellybean wasn't having it, with previous error.
Gingervillian runs fine. Checked I had USB debugging on and did a NAND backup. Downloaded the Superuser app from the rev.io website and put that on my root of my sd card ready.
Ran Rev.io on LINUX Mint in terminal, so don't need the fastboot drivers, as says is self contained and it just gets stuck at Zerging Root, may take a minute. Takes 10min and nothing, I just saw my hardward keys light up for a bit and go out. So I unplugged phone and pulled battery and restarted phone, which started fine.
See screenshot.
I don't know what to do to get it to run right through. Been searching web but everyone uses Windows not Linux! I must be still missing something but I swear I get through one stage and I find another door!!

It could be your ROM. Maybe try flashing an ruu or something stock, then run revolutionary.

Thanks but the prob is I don't know what the RUU ROM's are and all the old one's I used to use when I first rooted my Desire in 2010 have had their links disabled. I only have Leedroid, Gingervillian and maybe Oxygen somewhere on my backups.
Does anyone know which ROM will work with Revoluntionary and of a link where I can still download the ROM? All the server sites I go on are full of pop up's and dead end's.
I really want to use my EXT4 touch Recovered app. But can't til I get S OFF.
Heres the ruu. http://d-h.st/d44
Put it on the root of your SD card and don't rename it.
Then boot into hboot and wait a couple seconds, it will ask if u want to install so click yes.
That will completely restore the phone to official stock 2.3
Also i believe you must have stock hboot before you do this.
Good luck

Ok thanks for that but how do I know if I have the right HBOOT?
Mine is
bravo pvt1 ship s-on
hboot 0.93.0001
microp-031d
touchpanel synw0101
radio 0-5.11.05.27
aug 10 2010 17.52.10
I can't make any gold cards or whatever. I wouldn't have a clue where to start and I don't have windows.
I even tried just partitioning my sd with GParted which I've used before, but I can't remember how I got it to recognise my phone connected via USB! it has debugging on and I select usb storage in use once I start gparted in virtualbox, but nothing comes up even refreshing several times.
So now I can't even fix my phone via gparted giving up on S OFF.

Well in the end I found Gparted was installed by default on the Linux Mint Virtual machine I'd set up and as I could get my phone to show up in Linux, Gparted there found it. I deleted the corrupted ext 3 or 4 partition and recreated it, leaving the FAT 32 portion untouched. Am just flashing JellyBean back on to see if the script for a2sd can use the Ext4 now.

Have you ever flashed an hboot before? If not you have stock.
U should really try to s-off, its definitely worth it and it will be helpful in the long run.
Just flash the ruu I linked, and try revolutionary again. I'm pretty sure it will work.

Thanks for your continued help!
I've now made some progress and got Jellybean reinstalled and ran the terminal script to enable a2sd which worked this time! No corrupted SD ext and when I rebooted I got 118mb internal memory or more. It's gone down to 28mb now though after restoring most of my 141 app's from Titanium plus but I can see the SD ext shows 512mb used out of the 1GB I allocated so that is working!
I also got my last Nandroid backup to work which previously just bootlooped due to the corrupt sd ext and retrieved a few important text messages I'd saved to my SMS backup app, which is nice! I've got 3 years of text messages stored so am quite precious about them!
Once I complete my restore, I'll do a new Nandroid backup and copy it to my Mac and then maybe start exploring S Off again.
The thing though that worries me about S OFF is that even if I do succeed in doing it, there seem to be more hoops to jump through even then! E.g. re-rooting and then there are peeps who have changed their Desire Bravo's internal memory partition, which sounds pretty serious.
As I say, I'd like to be able to use EXT4 recovered but I do have 2 weeks to get a refund if I don't S OFF.
I'll see how I go and report back if I get S OFF.
