In super amoled light background doesn't really affect the battery.
Other than your really conscious about the battery life i suggest turning off the LV wallpaper and replacing it with black.

Actually it's been proven otherwise back in November.
Black vs White background at different brightness levels:

Don't surrender to colors!
Amoled works almost the same as plasma. Each pixel illuminates.

And brighter images use more power. Sucks manufacturers are limiting power consumption on plasmas by reducing power on bright images.

Umm yeah, welcome to 2009. We all know black colors use less power than white on amoled screens.

^seriously.
Also, who spends so much time looking at their wallpaper (especially a boring, solid color) to notice any difference?
I put black wallpaper I got those ugly black spots in the screen. blah
I used to use a black wallpaper because hey, why not, save on the battery, right?
Then I thought about how often my phone is actually displaying my wallpaper and decided it's a trivial matter. It's only ever a few seconds before I tap on something on my homescreen and it goes away. If I was constantly reading info off of widgets, at length, I'd care about it more.
These days I just load up whatever picture I think I'd like to see every now and then. Although I did like the clear contrast of pure black vs the icons etc.
Edit: Also the test linked to in one of the first replies, worth noting that Minimum brightness, white image is only slightly worse than the black results. Brightness matters more than color. Dial it down and look at whatever colors you like best.
Pssst...download no wallpaper app from market. Its a true no wallpaper display.

I've never used anything other than black on any mobile I've ever used.
I use a solid black wallpaper, but not to save battery. I just like the way it looks.

For me black wallpaper does matter coz if i open my phone its like 2 seconds before i launch and app leaving the home screen. ^o^

I suggest you themes with inverted apps like mine if you really wanna save something, a wallpaper does not saves that much

Doesn't this happen due to a low res not pure black image being used?
I never had that issue, so unless something is wrong with your display I suggest trying a different image

Just got the ET4G and love the battery life.. But my evo3d screen looked sexier!
I hear this one is better, but it looks kinda *too* sharp as opposed to the 3d having a solid looking picturesque quality. Gradients appear pixalated rather that smooth and it seems that is because the 3d was a bit more blurry and the ET's bigger screen shows more flaws in apps made for smaller screens.
SO. is it possible to add a "sharpness" control parameter? Id love to soften up my screen a bit!
Don't know how hard that is or not. Seems like it is. peace and thanks!

Holy balls... I never thought I would ever hear anyone complain about the screen being too crisp.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Are you sure you picked up the EPIC 4G TOUCH?....hmmmm...I think you've been cheated!
What does my signature say? I simply believe this screen reveals the flaws in images.
For instance:
look at the gradient on the xda forum's loading page... its not so smooth.
Search for adobe in the all store.. I acrobat reader has horrific digital artifacts in that red frigging icon... I also may other icons look less than sexy.
Lastly, turn your phone off and plug it in.. The gradient on the battery illustration is horrid..

Dang, Swift key added some weird auto corrections in that last tab..
One more weird observation: when you change the screen mode from "Dynamic" to "Standard" or "Movie", the color hue changes oddly.. Look at the facebook App color blue on Dynamic and then look at the color blue After changing to Movie.. It looks greenish... Hmmmmmm

So the phone comes stock with blue and black. I would love and pay to see a theme turn that black into white. The status bar and everything. Don't care much for the navigation buttons because I don't have them and set my phone in full screen. But ye please let this be White/Blue. Oh and that includes the dialpad, contacts, messaging, well all the gapps, you get what I mean. Anyone agree with me for a white/blue theme? Will look great with the lucky people who managed to pick the white gnex

I'd love to awe a blue/2nite theme, but IMO it can't be 2nite with ICA blue. To me, that'd just look weird. White with a royal or navy blue. . .that's where it's at.
Do you know the muffin man?

Well in those screenshots the status bar is black.. and the dialer looks a little washed out. But if you took everything black that is in the phone and changed it to white and kept the blue in ics then that would be cool. I understand that some parts will look a little washed out and for those parts just kind of clean it up. I will try to Photoshop some screen shots to give u an idea of what I had in mind today and post a little later

If you could that would be awesome. I mean look at the peoples app and mimic it in the dialler, address book and any other area of the phone where black has taken hold.
Your efforts are really nice. But I would have to say a stronger font colour is need and I believe the background is speckled instead of diagonal lines.
But yes if you could I would be truly indebted to you.

This would be amazing on Codename Android. I like the black status bar as it contrasts most of my other screens nicely. But I would love a white theme.

hi all xda members..as some of you might know that some galaxy nexus as purple tint and/or grainy screen.. well mine has a grainy screen at low brightness then at high brightness my screen looks like it gets burn in.. i sent it for repair and they said they cant see the fault or ''we could not replicate the fault mentioned''
are they stupid or??
Sent from my EPAD using xda premium
From what I've gathered from reading around, this is the nature of our displays. However there are some mods out, that may help the grain and purple tint.
I think the thread was in general.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
i seen it i think but nothing really about grany screens. its only noticable on white and grey backgrounds.its really annoying...
Sent from my EPAD using xda premium
I think it is normal for pentile. But I can only notice it on lowest brightness and even then I must admit I kinda like it. Looks a bit like paper and the grain seems to be a common trend now (YouTube background for example)

Well, I've checked play store now and you are right - seems to be noticable on all brightness settings. Still though, it is normal for pentile.
But I think mine is really bad? Or am I just over reacting?

you can use the CM9 gamma values. I can tell you some good ones.
Tell me and I'll try some when my phones back please
Sent from my EPAD using xda premium
Maybe take some pictures of it when you have it so we can see how bad it is.
Gamma are
Color Multipliers
Red .66
Great .66
Blue .89
Color Gamma Tuning:
Red -10
Green -100
Blue -2
DSS gamma set :
Either 1.2 or 1.4
These bring out the colors way better. You will still get the grainy and purple at 0 brightness. But who looks at there phone at that.

Been using that for a while, while I was using ICS CM9 or AOKP. Now I am on Jelly Bean and I have been using Franco kernel. Screen still looking good.
Hey guys, question. On a black scree , I noticed the screen is not pure black, it has some light. Only noticeable in dark rooms, even if the screen is on minimum brightness.

I'm guessing there's no way to make it completely black?
I used to have a SGS2 and I really liked the blacks, without that light (at least not as noticeable)
Is there any difference? Battery or something?
Anything????? I can't be the only one that wants this
Amoled already shows black as 'more black' than tft displays. Currently no tft/oled technique exists that will display black as actual black (like when the screen is off) afaik.
Having said that, I really like the black on my gnex. Dark enough for me.

Is it using bright color wallpaper like white will use up lots of battery as it is amoled screen?

Total black background will use the least battery since amoled doesn't use any power displaying black pixels (pixels are turned off).
